App (Mobile Phone)

The League App Corporate Office

The League App, known more commonly as The League, was launched in 2015 by CEO Amanda Bradford in San Francisco, California. The company operates a mobile phone IOS and Android dating service app.

Previously ,the app only works on IOS (Apple iPhone) devices, however, as of January of 2017, the app became available for Android phones as well. The app works in the US and just a few months ago, the service also began in London. This app is proving wildly popular, especially with the company’s target group, which is professional women. Users use both Facebook and Linkedin accounts to help them find suitable partners. Facebook and Linkedin contacts or friends are blocked from seeing the user and are never contacted.

The League App has faced some criticism as not all users are accepted and the limited amount of cities available. Bradford states that the company is working to add more cities as quickly as possible and address all concerns.

AskMen.Com called The League the Harvard of all dating apps in August 2020.

Company headquarters are still located in San Francisco, California.

GameTime Corporate Office

GameTime was founded in 2012 in San Francisco, California, by current CEO Brad Griffith. The company operates a mobile phone app which allows clients to purchase tickets to events.

After almost missing a game because of printer issues, Griffith decided there had to be a better way. He created a mobile phone app which stores a user’s credit card information and presents only the best tickets available to clients, rather than a long list of options. Currently, the company offers e-tickets for NBA, NHL, MLB, MLS, NCAA, and NFL teams and operates in 35 cities, with more being added each year.

In April of 2016, the company released a new option called SNAP, which allows clients to sell their tickets, even last minute, in the event they cannot attend. Company headquarters remain in San Francisco, California.

ApartmentList.Com was founded in 2008 in San Francisco, California, by John Kobs and Chris Erickson. After several years of bad rentals, problems finding rentals, and even a bait and switch scheme by brokers, Kobs and Erickson came up with a website and mobile phone app that is meant to cut down on the length of time it takes to find an apartment to rent.

LetGo Corporate Office

LetGo was founded in 2015 in New York, New York by Alec Oxenford, Jordi Castello, and Enrique Linares. The company operates a mobile phone app and a website that lists used items for sale.

The company is similar to OfferUp, eBay, and Craigslist in that clients contact each other to buy and sell (mainly) used items. LetGo has seen tremendous growth in a very short period of time. The company recently raised $175 million to invest in growth plans. The app has proven to be wildly successful, with 45 million downloads in the first 6 months of 2017, and annual transaction volume of $23 billion in the same time frame.

Apps like Letgo and OfferUp are direct competition to the cash positive Craigslist.

LetGo earns money via advertising and “bumping” client posts to the top of the page for periods of time. The app and listings are free unless clients wish to “bump” their post. A spokesperson for the company states there are currently 100 full-time employees. The app works in 25 countries, however, the company expects this to double by the end of 2017.

OfferUp Corporate Office

Offerup logo

OfferUp was launched in July of 2013 by friends Nick Huzar and Arean van Veelen in Seattle, Washington. After realizing that they both had many items that they no longer needed or rarely used. Rather than pay a storage fee, the pair decided to start their own business which lists local items for sale to potential buyers in the area.

Offerup phone app

The company is similar to Craigslist, other than it relies on a smartphone app, rather than a website. Clients take a picture with their phone and list the item using the app. Potential buyers locate items in their neighborhood and contact the seller. The website has become very popular in a short period of time, with statistics showing that an average person spends as much as 25 minutes a day browsing items. This is as long as many people spend on Instagram each day.

The company raised $39 million in 2017 and is looking to raise another $111 million to compete with eBay and Craigslist.

In January 2021, a judge allowed a class action lawsuit regarding privacy issues to continue against OfferUp.

OfferUp has far exceeded eBay in its first few years in terms of growth, with 42 million users.  Company headquarters are located in Bellevue, Washington.  offerup phone app 2
