Academy Sports + Outdoors was founded in 1938 when Arthur Gochman purchased Southern Sales, an army surplus chain of six stores.
Gochman had learned about the retail business from his father, Max Gochman, who owned a surplus retail outlet and a small chain of stores.
In 1973 Gochman changed the name of the company to Academy Corp.
In the 1980s Gochman rebranded the stores as sporting goods megastores.
In 1995 David Gochman, the founder’s son, joined the company. At this time Academy was a $350 million retail chain.
Today Academy Sports + Outdoor has 160 stores in 12 states. The stores carry clothing, shoes, and equipment for sports and outdoor activities such as camping, hunting, and fishing. The company is owned by private equity firm Kohlberg Kravis Roberts & Co.
Academy Sports + Outdoor is #119 on the list of Forbes Largest Private Companies, has 21,000 employees, and had $3.7 billion in revenue in 2012.
The company announced in June 2018 that they had plans for expansion, despite the mounting competition from online retailers like Amazon.

I researched 22 rim fire Ammunition On Academy Sports Website The store computer said it was IN STOCK. I drove 35 Miles to get to the store, NO 22 Ammunition. I asked the Sales person why the computer said the had 2 different 500 round boxes in stock along with several smaller boxes. His response Ticked me off and it should tick you off ” The Ammunition is here BUT i have to Give 1 Box out per caliber for each Gun sold” I told him they out to change the computer to short stock so it Does not cause this kind of problem, be honest with buyers costs NOTHING

My name is Joe, and I am a disabled veteran. I purchased a bike for my son a few years ago and have since brought the bike in three times to be repaired. I only purchased the bike because the manager told me we could have the bike repaired for the life of the bike. his particular bike has issues often because of how its made. I took the bike in and to get repaired but they told me in Snellville GA, that they would not fix the bike and they will throw my bike away if I didn’t pick it up. I told them that this is unacceptable, but they threw my sons bike away anyway. I just wanted to get it fixed, or they should have offered a new bike or something, VERY DISSAPOINTED as a Veteran!!!!!!!!!!! Never to shop here again. If anyone could help, my email is doc_jblack@ yahoo.com. or 404-444-XXXX

I am a decorated veteran who served my country with honor. Brought my wife to the Thibodaux La store to purchase a 30-06 rifle for deer hunting. We browsed the weatherby and the rugers .She preferred the ruger due to feel and weight. I said great get paper work done and was going to pay for it. At that time I was told we could not purchase the rifle because I handled it. They thought my wife was purchasing it for me. We explained Louise is proficient in use of firearms that the gun was for her. well they refused to sell us the rifle. So we wemt to the Houma store and I never touched are even handled the rifle. Again we were refused purchase on the rifle. The Thibodaux store called ahead and put a bolo out that if we show up to purchase a rifle to refuse sale to us. Now at this point we decided to contact the VA all military associates and all Brothers in arms not to use Academy sporting goods for there needs as my 2nd amendment was revolked for no reason . Not even a background check was performed. My wife and I will never be humiliated in your stores again. I will make it a point to let all veterans know How a decorated Navy seal was treated in your store.
IP Freely says
As a former Academy Associate who worked the gun counter perhaps I can give you a little perspective from the other side of the gun counter:
1. We can’t really tell that you are a decorated vet just by looking at you. We can however observe behaviors and note types of questions that would seem to indicate a straw sale, possible criminal background or other indicators that might indicate reasons for a sale to be denied.
2. In my own experience I can usually tell the difference between a suspected straw sale and someone just trying to help a spouse pick out a gun. Mishandling firearms can also cause denial. I have had people point guns at me at other customers and even their own family members. I can’t say for certain all the events that led of to a store denial since I wasn’t there. If it was an overzealous sale guy then thats on him. But every call is a judgement call. But you simply safely handling it alone is not a reason to deny sale, I will have to give you the benefit of the doubt since I have witnessed ahole sales people who refused sales when I did not see a reason for denial.
3. The seller has the right to refuse sale for any reason, that is true of any FFL/seller. I’ve never done it unless a straw sale was suspected.
4. We can not run a background check unless you intend to purchase a firearm. (has to have firearm serial #) That’s usually and indicator that someone might be prohibited. I got that request more than a few times but if a straw sale is suspected no background check will be run.
5. Your options might have been to offer to just to buy the rifle yourself and give it your wife as a gift. Read instructions on question 11a on 4473. Giving firearm as a gift with no expectation of repayment is permissible as long as you have no knowledge of any reason that person cant possess it. Knowingly buying for another and expecting repayment or because they can’t legally purchase is a straw sale. You dont have to declare that its a gift beforehand. Just do it. Its legal.
6. If you said you were going to go and purchase it at another Academy then its store policy to contact other nearby stores to prevent a suspected straw sale.
7. There is what is called a “store denial” database that will retain your information for 30 days if (assuming the store had already obtained it during that transaction). It just means that academy will not sell you any firearms for 30 days. After that you can try again. I guess they figure if it is a straw sale then you could be prevent from trying at any academy. Most people who get in the 30 day no buy database innocently and mistakenly answer question 11A incorrectly on 4473 because they don’t quite understand it.
8. Regardless of anything, Academy can’t prevent you from going somewhere that is not Academy to try to buy a firearm.
9. Since no NICS check was run and no FBI denial happens your 2A rights weren’t denied.
10. It really doesnt matter who pays for it at the register. But you could have bought a gift card for the price the gun + tax and gave it to your wife. And then fills out the 4473, has the NICS check on her and she pays.
The whole damn process is dumb because it does not prevent crime. Just is another obstacle for good people. But as a seller, we must follow the rules or we could put our FFL as well as ourselves personally at legal risk.

I went to my local Academy ( Lufkin) store today, which I do several times a week to bring back a broken rod that cost $119. They said you can exchange it for the same rod or one of equal value. Ok great. However, when I returned with the same series of rod(Dobyns Fury Series) but a different model, I was told that I now owed $59. Mind you that the rod is $119. Well Im a pretty no non-sense kind of guy, so Academy has now made me an online shopper. Just not Academy online. I cant fathom that is makes sense to lose a customer who annually spends atleast $8000 at your store for $59.. Good job Lufkin Academy…

Good afternoon I went into your store today in West Melbourne to purchase a 14ft Jon boat. I went to the firearm counter and asked for help to find a price for this boat. I was directed to the fishing reel counter were I meant Seth it was around 1:30 and ask about this Jon boat in turn he sent another associate to check the price on the Jon boat that was out front of the store. The associate came back in and said it was $549.00 he went out twice to verify the price and said yep it’s $549.00 so I said okay ill buy the boat and trailer so the price would be $1.098.00 plus tax so I’m ready to purchase the items and then was told the Jon boat was $759.00 plus what the trailer cost. I said what I was quoted the price of the Jon boat twice @ $549.00 so I said forget it and left the store. I shop at this store in both Orlando and West Melbourne I always say how good your customer service is and how great your prices are I am very disappointed with this store and I will not recommend these store to any of my friends. I am very disappointed I thought I had found be a great store to shop in but I was wrong. If you would like to contact me my #321-305-XXXX My Name is Jim

I made a previous comment without a response from Academy, so I can only assume that Academy does not care about its customers. That being said, I suggest all Republicans stay out of the Academy store on 1093 in Richmond/Katy Texas. Those people only want Democrat money.
Colleen Zakosek says
I was standing in line this afternoon when one of your sales associates walked up to open an additional check out register. As he walked behind the register he announced “I will help the next democrat in line.” We all stood in place. He repeated it again. A man walked over to the register and the associate asked him “Are you a Democrat?” The man said yes and the associate said good I will help you. I could not believe what I was hearing! How can you have people working for you that discriminates against your customers? I don’t want to see anyone lose their job, but this man needs to go back and be retrained. If my Republican money is not good enough for Academy you better post a sign stating Republicans not welcome in Academy! Are we not all ready divided enough these days?

So you reward the heroic action of Dean Crouch by firing him. He saved lives by tackling this criminal and you show your yellow cowardice by letting him go. There is not a grasshopper’s chance in hell that I will ever enter one of your stores again and absolutely nothing you can do to ever regain me as a customer.
Chad McPhearson says
I am appalled that you fired Dean Crouch! His actions might have very well saved several lives, including the life of the man he stopped. The perpetrator intended to harm one or more persons and would have destroyed his own life in so doing. Mr. Crouch what he thought was best under the cirXXXXstances, and I believe the results validate his actions. Does Academy care about people only when they are in the store and might spend money or do they care about people simply as human beings. What if the perpetrator had been planning on shooting someone in the parking lot or coming back into the store after they loaded the weapon? Would that change Academy’s response? What would people have thought of Academy if they had let the man go and he engaged in a mass shooting? How would it sound if Mr. Crouch had an interview with the press that went something like: “I would have stopped him, but store policy…”? I bought my last firearm from Academy and generally like shopping there but I will definitely be going elsewhere for most of my sporting needs if this is the way Academy treats a hero!
Bill Kennedy says
In regard to the firing of the store manager, Mr Crouch, you have lost my business by your actions. To roll over and do nothing and allow evil to persist is both immoral and unAmerican. As a retired law enforcement officer and disabled veteran, I can say that Mr Crouch may well be a hero in all this and Academy Corporate is the villain. Clearly. Evil exists and continues to grow when people step aside and do nothing and allow themselves to be victimized. Academy is part of the problem. Perhaps corporate can sponsor the perpetrators legal defense – to make it up to him for his bad treatment at the hands of the store manager. I have started to forward the news articles about this shameful and despicable action on the part of Academy to my friends and family, and to the members of the men’s fraternal and veteran’s organizations that I belong to. There are and will be consequences to bad policy and bad decisions.
Cliff Crawford says
I too am a former customer of your store until I know Mr. Crouch has been rehired and recognized as the hero he is. God only knows how many lives his action saved.
Jo says
I am flabbergasted that you fired Dean Couch for helping and protecting your store and people. What sort of liberal bull is this? What next? Will you pay for the thief’s (and potential murderer) lawyer and give him millions? Couch is a hero and you should have PROMOTED him, not fired him. You fire him for touching a customer? Well, that is stupid, and this guy stealing a gun was NOT A CUSTOMER. I hope that Couch sues your pants off and gets enough to retire. This was a horrible move. If this is the way you treat someone that protects the people in the store, I’d be afraid to step foot in any of your stores, even if I wanted to – which I do not.
Andrew Schindler says
I have always enjoyed shopping at your stores but that ended last week when you fired a hero .I and my Family will no longer be shopping at you stores until Dean courch Manager of Tallahassee store gets his job back and your stupid policy is rescinded
Bret says
Your company probably doesn’t care but my family and friends live in Florida. We will never shop at your stores or order anything online. With the power of the internet on our side your company will suffer lesser business until you apologize and hire back Dean Crouch. Your company should be ashamed and embarrassed.
Richard Ostendorf says
Today I read a story of an employee of Academy Sports & Outdoors in Tallahassee, Fla.
Quoted From CBS affiliate WCTV:
“…TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — A store manager who tackled a customer as he ran out of the store with a stolen gun and ammunition has been fired by Academy Sports, reports the CBS affiliate here, WCTV. Dean Crouch worked at the Academy Sports store in Tallahassee.
“My employee yelled, ‘Stop that man!”‘ Dean Crouch said of the June 29 incident. “I turned and looked and saw Mr. White running from the gun bar toward the front of the store with a firearm in his hand. At the front door is where I stopped him. I tackled him to the ground. We apprehended him and detained him. We secured the firearm.”…”
This man saved Academy customers and the public from harm.
Barry Carpe says
At 69 years old I thought I had seen it all. Obviously not. I’ve just learned of absolute stupidity. Your corporate officers should all be fired. Lets see how your business prospers.
sharon biermann says
The absurdity of firing Dean Crouch is beyond belief. With all of the senseless violence committed today, Dean’s actions saved lives. Period. The man he stopped was going to do someone harm, and we all know it. James Kevin Symancyk you just cost the company a lot of money since many of us will not be shopping there again. Do the right thing and hire Dean back. Do you really want the Academy name to be tarnished more than it already has been.
Julie Eklund says

KJ says
WHAT?!!! You FIRED your store manager who possibly stopped future killings by this thief??? You should have given him a BONUS! I will step foot into your store until this is rectified with a public apology to Dean Crouch and his back pay paid. I will also be blowing up social media encouraging others to do the same.
SHAME ON YOU!!!
KJ says
… I will NOT step foot into your store…
Dalton Clardy says
What were you folks thinking?
You firing Mr. Couch, a young family man, working to support a wife and children; you know the American dream. What did he do? He single handed keep a firearm from going to the streets to be used for a crime. The thief had already stolen multiple firearms from another store. Shame on your company. Policy isn’t policy for the good of your staff and patrons, its crisis management to prevent law suits. This man’s conviction of what is right and taking the risk to PROTECT us all from another illegal weapon in the hands of a criminal is heroic. The company policy of making profit from selling lethal weapons and saving a buck by not having a armed security guard on duty to prevent theft speaks volumes of your company’s “leadership” and commitment to the communities in which you sell your goods. Shame on the “policy makers” and mahogany row in general.

It shows he doesn’t have control of his company. This guy that got fired is a HERO. Do you understand he risked his life to save YOUR customers lives. LOSER
TabathaBowdoin says
Very saddened to hear about the manager losing his job after stopping a thug from stealing a gun that 99% probability would have been used in a crime. What is Academy thinking!! Who cares about your stupid policy! That policy sucks! This guy should have been given a raise! I had rather and will take my business from this point on To Bass Pro in Shreveport and drive 1 1/2 hours rather than 30 minutes to Academy, and will do my ordering from Bass Pro instead as well. Apparently Academy is more concerned for their thieves than their employees. What a disappointment that should have never taken place, but very proud it was brought to light.
Ron says
Just read the the story about store manager Dean Crouch. I can’t believe a company could be so absurd to fire a man who potentially save many lives. As of today I wil. Never step into another Academy spots store. Cabelas and Bass Pro are my new go to. Can’t believe a sporting goods store would have such Liberal, weak kneed executives. Will make sure my large family and network of friends will see this story and boycott this worthless company.
Debra Brown says
Until the store manger, Dean Crouch, is rehired in the position he held in the Tallahassee store, I will not set foot or spend one more dime in Academy Sporting Goods. Firing of this man was unjust. He should be hailed as a hero not treated as he was. Shame on you! In this day and age with school shootings and crime, we should not ban guns but control them. Mr. Crouch was doing his bit, risking his life to do just that. I will reach out in every way that I can through social media and etc. to encourage others to boycott your store.
Wayne says
I agree with you, Academy has permanently lost a long time customer here, I will not patronize a company that treats a hero in this manner
TabathaBowdoin says
Debra – that would be the decent thing for Academy to do but I wouldn’t go back after that if I were him. That whole situation is just ridiculous. Bet Bass Pro would hire him though! ??

I went to Academy store #060 at around 11:30 on 4/12/2018. Full disclosure I used to work at this store. While I was in the shoe dept. I heard the manager chewing out a group of employees. He was standing with his back to the doors leading to receiving and calling them out for not working hard enough. He asked them what they thought they put out 90, 80, 50%? Told them he could hire their replacements ~ then told them he wasn’t going to hire more workers because it gave them more money ~ then told them that overtime was a thing of the past. Not unusual for this store. Horrible management team. They have a 1970’s corporate mentality IMO. When I worked there we worked from 10pm to 6am with only on one hour break for lunch. They count how many times you go to the bathroom which might be legit except for illness and just plain ol’ being older. But if you come in sick they get mad if you call in sick they get mad. They are horrible- did I mention that . It just hurt me to know the same bullying and threats are still going on. They have (I asked) 5 people working this shift when they used to have 12. Only 3 are full time.
I just wanted someone at corporate to know how store #060 in Houma, La is being run.
I window shopped there and then drove 20 miles to another store to make my purchase of almost $600. You can check this out store:0252 register: 221 date:04/12/18 time:13:31 and whatever 8841 is. Look for yourselves.
Also, store #60 is very anti 2A. One of the managers over guns and ammo believes private citizens shouldn’t own weapons. Academy has from time to time hid the scary “assault” weapons.
I will be contacting gun right advocates on this matter. And I’m sure corporate, as you can tell by most of the unattended complaints on this page, will just forget it. But, a serious campaign will in this day and age result in some action.

Been going through the same thing. Ordered on the 25th of December and still no delivery, nor can anyone tell me where my order even is. I was supposed to move last week, and now my family’s Christmas is ruined. Not even knowing if I can go to my family’s out of state for Christmas, because I don’t know if the order will even arrive on time. They continue to pass the buck to the next guy, with no answers ever.
Sha says
I attempted to place an order on 12 December 2017. I made it through the shipping and billing portion with no issues. Upon arriving at the “review order” tab, I was prompted that my order could not be completed and to contact my bank. I called my bank and was notified that my card was charged THREE times. By this time, I’m extremely confused because the order neither went through on my end nor did I receive an order confirmation number. I’m currently deployed and there’s a huge time zone difference. I had to wait until the wee hours of the night to call back to the states and get this issue straightened out. I waited on hold for 46 minutes before my call was answered. I explained the issue to the representative that took my call. She took ONLY my name and said that she would be back with a solution. Please be mindful that I never received an order confirmation number or email and the number showing up on her caller ID does not belong to be since it was being routed through an Air Force base on my behalf. She placed me on hold for another 15 minutes and came back with absolutely NO information. Had she asked me to verify the phone number or email address used when I attempted to make a purchase, this 15 minute wait could have been avoided. As I’m sitting here looking at pending transactions on my bank statement (THREE to be exact), she tells me that my order never went through and Academy doesn’t charge your card until your item ships; these charges were simply “inquiries”. Inquiries????? While I understood the message she was trying to convey, that didn’t explain the three charges I was physically staring at. The representative then asked if there was anything else that she could assist me….ummmmm YES lady, I still want to place my order but your website keeps denying my payment while continuing to take my money. She then puts me on hold and transfers me to another department that can help me order over the phone. After an hour (1 whole hour) of waiting, I finally hung up. That was piss poor customer service and after staying up until 2:30am my time, I got absolutely nothing accomplished. I just wasted 2 hours on the phone only to be back at square one again.

I feel it necessary to let you and any other interested party know, the following, for the protection of the 2nd amendment. Today IL, tomorrow the USA!!
Important Information about ammo sales to Illinois.
It is TOTALLY LEGAL to ship Ammunition to IL, Period ! as long as you do the following :
Go to official WebSite and see for yourself that selling and shipping Ammo TO IL is TOTALLY LEGAL.
ilga.gov/legislation/ilcs/ilcs3.asp?ActID=1657&ChapterID=39
Then go to Law Line:
(430 ILCS 65/3)(from Ch. 38, par. 83-3)
then
(b-5)
Any resident purchasing ammunition within or outside the State of Illinois must provide the seller with a copy of his or her valid Firearm Owner’s Identification Card (FOID) or valid concealed carry license and either his or her Illinois driver’s license or Illinois State Identification Card prior to the shipment of the ammunition. The ammunition may be shipped only to an address on either of those 2 doXXXXents.
NOTE: “MAY BE SHIPPED”
The reason I bring this to your attention is if all ammo sellers, like yourselves, all start this process of – “Do Not Send to IL” *** Even know it is Totally Legal *** Well then Today IL, tomorrow the USA!! I just don’t want to see this FAKE NEWS BS PROPAGATE !! It is a TOTAL LIE that “Somebody” is telling you that you can not send to IL, I have and continue to buy ammo 100% of the time via mail order now and for the last 40 years – and never having a problem. The Fact that Academy Sports company is telling customers can’t drop ship to my order is a Lie 100%, just FYI.
I Just really want you and your company NOT to fall into a trap and stop selling ammo to IL and in someway Propagate a law that DOES NOT Exist. You can and must sell to IL Legal purchasers otherwise “They” the anti 2nd amendment folks just moved ahead in their agenda to get rid of Guns and Ammo, which WILL leave you and your employees Out of a job, all for a law that Does Not Exist!
I am saddened to learn that somebody out there is believing they can’t send Ammo to Illinois.
In conclusion I say “DO NOT BE BAMBOOZLED” know the law and avoid Anti-Gun Traps.
Wishing all the Best,

I tried to take advantage of a Special Father’s Deal that Academy Sports and Outdoors had in June 2017. The deal included a Taurus PT111 Millennium G2 Pistol and Heritage Rough Rider Revolver (Model RR22B4BP) for $289.99. None of the stores I called had the products available.
I was issued a “rain-check” for the guns. I have called the Gulfport, MS store numerous times since that time, and have been told the same thing each time…sorry but we do have the guns and don’t know when they will be available. I know that the store has the Taurus PT111 Millennium G2 Pistol and Heritage Rough Rider Revolver in stock. I’m told, however, that the specific models noted in the original deal are black in color, and that the current in-store guns are a different color. Why not substitute??
September will be here in four days and I’m totally dissatisfied with your company’s lack of commitment in this matter.

The Academy store location in Corpus Christi, Tx is price gouging customers at this time because of an impending hurricane, Harvey, selling a case of 24.bottles of water at $40.00 when it should only be around $4 to $5 for a case of 24 bottles. Outrageous! I can go along with limiting the customers to one case but to raise the price is poor management!

The very next day the manager in gun department called me and said I had a rain check for the guns. I told him it would be this week before I could get it, he said that was OK because it would be at leas two weeks before they got any more guns in!! I went today to get my rain check,(I was the 8th or 9th person to sign the paper)!!! So I went to pick Up rain check today. Some guns had done came and been sold. They could not find (my rain check out of 30 plus rain checks, but I was in the top ten )! I seen my name on the list today! The manager and the store manager refused to look at the signed sheet in front of me, because they knew I was right so they lied to me !! Then they tried saying that they hadn’t called me!!! So not (only did they LIE to ME they were Calling ME a LIAR )I will neverr BUY ANYTHING at that Store ever Again!!!! Way to treat YOUR CUSTOMERS!!!!!

I worked for Sports Authority for many years before they merged with Garts. There is a huge opportunity for Academy if they opened stores in the SouthEast market in Florida. We have Dicks and now that is it. There are empty TSA locations all over from Miami to Boynton Beach.
Come on Academy. Give us another option for a sporting goods store.

I bought a the Big Game 650 lb feeder and the motor has not worked from day one. I have tried going through the manufacturer Rankam and have gotten the run around for over 2 months and have tried going through customer service directly with Academy I am not almost 3 months and nothing resolved and NO ONE contacts me back after I have done what has been asked of me SEVERAL times in sending in a copy of the receipt. I though Academy would stand behind the products they sell and help us out. This BIG feeder has been just sitting and not being able to do what I bought it to do for the last 3 months.

I ordered a yeti 20 bag cooler and another mother ordered a yeti 30 bag cooler on Monday and received an email today about the orders being cancelled due to lack of inventory. I called customer service and was told nothing could be done. This purchase was for a fundraiser for a baseball team and I am very disappointed with how unsympathetic the customer service rep was. We as a team spend A LOT of money at Academy and hope that in writing this letter something will be done to correct this.

Last friday I went to Academy in Trussville Alabama to purchase exercise equipment on sale for $79.00, from $99.00.
I waited close to an hour for service, three different times I asked for assistance and customer service called, via intercom, and I never got help.
I finally demanded to speak to the manager. Of course the first thing he did was “apologize” and then told me tge said item was no longer in stock!
I then asked if I could purchase the floor display, already assembled and he refused!
He said it was “unservicable” because a screw had fallen out??? And therefore couldn’t be sold.
I then asked him if it,was “unservicable” and dangerous why was it on display?
He said it would be sent back to the factory for destruction soon, four days later it’s still on display!!!
He then tried to sell me a similar item at twice the price, no mention of a,discount or free assembly, absolutely horrible customer service.

Academy in Lawton okla is not a good place to work!!! We have a sr lead dating a manger and they close often together! They are seen often outside work holding hands and kissing. The others know about it! We are so short staffed that one department has to cover almost the whole store but the gun bar! I can not take a day off cause we have no one to cover it! Having younger kids and getting Easter off is not aloud!! I as a female have to help the lazy men do load out of heavy things cause managers won’t get off there butt and help! We don’t have 3 team leads cause the are slow of hiring! We have co workers that refuse to be back up register but that’s ok with management and forces others to do it. This store has a male team lead sexually harassing an apparel associate and a member of management does know but he to lazy to do anything about it. I feel I am singled out! Being a single mother I should be able to have weekends off to spend time with my kids. Why hasn’t anyone question our turn over rate we can’t keep anyone cause lack of management going on. 3 people applied for a team lead and they gave it to a newbie and not someone that knows the whole store! Just over how this store is ran! Someone needs to like our store manager know what going on!

The Manager James at Academy in Killeen, Texas accused me of STEALING SOCKS. As I paid for my merchandise and was leaving the store, he said several people “saw me put socks in my pocket” and told me to pull everything out my pocket, which I did. I was with my friend’s seven-year-old daughter…..
All the customers and employees looked at me. I was completely embarrassed on how he called me out so Openly in front of Everyone.
I asked him to write his name down because I wanted to complain to the branch manager and he refused. I am In tears ?right now writing this in my car. Never have I been so humiliated.
I will never shop at this store and will share my experience with everyone I know?
To be falsely accused and treated like a criminal is indescribable

I have always loved academy being that most of my family members who were drafted in the NFL have purchased from you all before. The quality of your items are awesome, unfortunately, I will not be shopping with you all anymore after today! I was profiled because I am BLACK and it was extremely humiliating. Your store manager Brian Kelley here in Birmingham, AL stopped me and my husband saying someone made a complaint about us reattempting to sell store credit and that you all do not resell it in front of the entire store. I called back to speak with Mr. Kelley to get an understanding of what exactly he meant. He explained that store credit is when items are brought back into the store without a receipt. So from my understanding we were being profiled because we black and look like theives in his eyes I assumed. I came in to purchase a pistol and my husband looked at some apparel. We came back and purchased the apparel but did not get the gun and I’m excited we did not. I will no longer shop in your stores due to this experience and would also appreciate people like Mr. Kelley to be trained on proper store and phone etiquette. He refused to let me finish talking and kept cutting me off when I explained my frustration to him. I am EXTREMELY unhappy about my experience. Profiling should never be okay because of a customers appearance.

I would like to say that most experiencessential in your stores are great, except today. I called the store in bossier city, Louisiana to check the availability of a product. After calling 6 times to speak to someone in the gun department and never getting an answer, I called and asked to speak to a manager. The manager checks to see if they have the gun safe I am looking for and tells me they have a few. I arrive at the store about 45 mins later and an associate tells me they sold the last one 3 hours ago. That is not the first time I have had a manager at that store show just how incompetent they are. I won’t be going back to that store

Academy advertised a sale on a ‘hot item’, the Nikon 3-9×40 BDC 600 for $169.99. This included mounts and a wind meter with the sale beginning on 11/09/16. I went to the Tupelo, MS location and they had no mounts and one scope, the display. I was told by the gentleman behind the counter that until the display was sold, no more would arrive at the store. Shipments are on Tues, Thurs, and perhaps Sat., but they “never know what they will get on those trucks”. I called the Olive Branch location and they had no scopes or mounts. This is a poor way to start a sale. I was glad to see that you have started putting your AR rifles back in the sale papers. There are three competitors within 400 yards of the Academy I visited, so I hope you manage your promos better in the future.

Recently tried to get the Huntsville, Tx store to order me a rifle from another Academy store after their inventory was done. John and David were very helpful in the process but they couldn’t get the rifle sent to Huntsville. They said the other store could refuse to send it to them. Another employee their called the Missouri City, TX store to check on the transfer and they told him they wouldn’t transfer the rifle because it was on display. What difference does it make which store makes the sale? I had cash in hand ready to buy from Huntsville TX but couldn’t get the item. So I went to Another retailer and purchased the rifle. Academy lost the sale. Corporate can do better, can’t you?

I posted a review of Monarch 9mm ammunition that the ammunition was under powered and would not cycle a Sig Sauer P226. At the time of my comment there were 48 other negative comments. This ammunition jammed every single round, I had to manually cycle the slide. If anyone uses this ammunition for self defense it will result in a disaster.
Academy removed my comment. I spoke to the department manager at the Academy about the defective Monarch ammunition and first he reminded me of Academy’s no return policy even if the ammunition is defective and second he said it wasn’t his problem. I told him I was not there for a refund as I had not even brought the boxes of defective ammunition with me I just didn’t want anyone to get hurt with it. He had no comment and just walked away.
Our staff has read your review and values your contribution. However, it did not meet all our website guidelines. Thanks for sharing and we hope to publish next time.
I posted their comment that they had removed my comment and 48 other negative comments and Academy also removed this post.
The customer service department outright lies to their customers, first they said I could speak to a supervisor but after they found out the reason for the call they told me they hoped a supervisor returned my call.
IF ANYONE GETS INJURED BECAUSE OF THIS MONARCH AMMUNITION I WILL HELP YOU AS AN EXPERT WITNESS AGAINST ACADEMY. CONTACT ME AT MY EMAIL ADDRESS. I still have some of the ammunition that is defective.

I was called by your company because I had submitted an application for employment…let me say that again ..you called me…since I had to leave your company because of a family emergency..you had to contact HR to see if I was could be rehired…that was a week and a half ago..now when I called today..I get the same stupid fact that you have not even started to get that information.
How you run a business with so many incompetent people is beyond me..I am a retired sales man and if I would have run my business like that..my degree of success would of been substantially lower.
When a company does not even have the common courtesy to keep a potential employee aware of the status of his job chances proves to me that..no matter what Forbes Magazine says..you are a mediocre company.
I back that up when I see your company made close to five billion dollars in sales and that you pay your employees peanuts on a part time basis proves to me that your greed is outrageous.
I only regret that I even applied to your company because you have no class and no professional morals or mores..that I am used to.. as a retired business man with over thirty years of loyal customer service.. I want to leave you with a line from an old country song “take this job and shove it”.

Why is academy sports trying g to lose all of my business by hiding rifles in the back of the store and making people feel like it’s a crime to look or purchase them? I asked to see an m&p ar15 and was told I would have to pick one off of the paper instead of being able to see and check out the rifle myself like before. The employee said that he was instructed to do this because of Corporate. What the hell is wrong with you people. I frequent the Academy store in huntsville alabama. Tonight I came to the store at 9:10 and the entry doors were blocked with pallets of merchandise and locked, barring any customers from entering even though closing time is 9:30. I will no longer shop at this or any other academy store.

I am a very common customer of the local Academy and due to my heavy insterest in fishing, hunting, firearms, ammo, and appearal typically under armor. I was at the local east Plano location this evening with my 8 year old after shopping for about 20 mins I had decided on about $300 in appearal and was approached by Jodie the store manager who insulted me telling they were closed and it was against the law to check me out. They basically just told a consistent customer that spends $800+ a month at their store to put the merchandise down and leave because all regesters were closed and it was 5 mins past posted closing time. This was the most shocking experience I have had in the 10 years I have been a customer of academy and plan to take my business elsewhere due to the extreamly rude and poor customer service received. So just for the record no intercom announcements of closing bring final purchases to the register just we’re closed drop what you have and leave. Then the it’s against the law for me to check you out after hours. What an aweful choice for manager of your store.

I have always loved Academy and have purchased all of my Firearms from Academy, five to be exact, as well as clothes, shoes, fishing gear, toys, and etc. I have also always purchased ammo from Academy. Due to Academy’s stance on not displaying AR-15’s, less ammo, and no 30 round magazines I will no longer be shopping at Academy until this stance is redacted. I am extremely disappointing in this Texas grown store that I have loved and supported my whole life. Again, I will no longer to go Academy until this stance is reversed. I typically go to Academy at least once a week but it looks like I will be going to Cabelas and Bass Pro shop instead. It is a sad day for me…

Hello everyone! Not sure why I am going to post this issue that I had today, as it seems like there are thousands of people that have had similar issues with Academy, and yet nothing is done. Below I will explain exactly what happened to me today, so that everyone knows how Academy does business according to Joshua and Britt in the Houma, Louisiana store. I would also like to say that I have, in the past, spent a lot of money at this store, as well as many other Academy stores. In fact, 3 weeks ago I spent well over $600 on a trolling motor and battery!
Today I went into the Houma Academy to purchase three light action rod and reels for crappie/perch fishing, as well as a $200 gift card for my son-in-law’s birthday, and discovered how Academy tricks their customers. The price tag on the shelf for 3 rod and reel combos was marked down from $39.99 to $29.99 each. When I arrive at the checkout, the cashier rang it up as $44.65 each without tax. I told her that there must be a mistake, so she contacted Joshua, who met with the store manager named Britt. After approximately 15 minutes Joshua came back having pulled the tag off of the shelf and said they could offer me one of the three combos at $29.99, but the other two would be $44.65. He went on to saying that only the first item on the shelf was at the price of $29.99, and the remaining were $44.65. I told him that I would pass on all three of them, and shared how I felt that this was deceiving customers. I left the store as not to cause a scene and called Britt (the Store Manager) to share with him my frustration of how they were being deceitful to customers. After he gave me the same excuse that Joshua gave I told him that I would contact his corporate office to inform them of how the Houma store was being run, and he was fine with that.
Unfortunately, from the list of disgruntled employees, I firmly believe that I will not hear from anyone at Academy! Therefore, with that being said, I contacted the local Houma Daily courier and spoke to someone that will be investigating what happened. My only hope is that the person that I spoke to will investigate it properly and share what happened with all consumers, so no one else gets ripped off! I think it’s a shame how stores like Houma Academy take advantage of people the way they do!
Let’s think about this logically. Imagine if consumers are shopping throughout the store, and pick up the second item on everything that is in their buggy, they will have no clue that they are not paying more than what was marked for that item. This means that if they have 30 items in their buggy, and the tag for those items were marked at $29.99 per item. Now, when they get to the register, most people will not remember how much each item costs while the cashier rings it up for $44.65.
Let’s do the math. The difference between what it was marked at on the shelf of which was $29.99 per item, and what the cashier rang it up for was $44.65 is a difference of $14.66. When one multiplies $14.66 times the 30 different items which, remember, was the second item on the shelf, that you thought you were getting for $29.99, consumers will be paying a total of $439.80 more than anticipated plus tax on that amount as well!
Although the Houma, La. Academy manager (Britt) felt like this was perfectly acceptable, I don’t!
Academy, if you support Britt on this, shame on you for deceiving consumers!!!
Janet Outlaw says
In Texas, not sure about Louisiana, if a rack of clothes are marked for $25.00 then everything on that rack should sell for $25.00. If it is a different price then it should be marked appropriately. Good luck. Don’t worry, after Academy took all the AR-15’s off the shelves and will not be selling them A LOT of customers will not be supporting them. That’so the Gun show will do good business!

I was in Academy Sports store in Tupelo, Ms. last week looking at a boat. After trying several minutes to get someone to assist me, I gave up and left. Called back the next day and was transferred to the sports dept. and after holding for 20 minutes I hung up and called back and ask to speak to a manager. The lady I spoke with assured me when the Mgr. got out his meeting he would call me back. Never happened, I called the following day and finally spoke to a mgr. and told him about the poor service and he did not seem concerned at all. He just said if you have a problem again while in the store ask to speak to me and I will help you. Yea right!

I told them store policy is 24 hours & if He flunked it He had a Felony & would never get a firearm because of that. So I called Corp, & yes the policy is 24 hours & always has been So it seems that Academy is no longer a sell for profit organization. Bet the stock Holders would like to know that.

I am an employee there in Odessa, TX I am amazed with what all employees get away with at this company. A Cashier Team Lead named Hunter is very rude and treats cashiers very badly doesn’t want to be in the front end at all. The only employees he helps are the one’s he parties with. They ask for change and he makes a big deal about it. You need to go to the bathroom he acts like it is the end of the world. The cashiers hate asking for help because that Team Lead makes us feel bad. They also have another Team Lead that calls in constantly never feels good, too lazy to do anything and doesn’t get along with the Senior Team Lead. When short staffed they make sure they get their lunches, but when it comes to the cashiers we have to wait. We also have a Cashier that is a Customer Service Cashier and she calls in all the time, also when she is at customer service and there are more cashiers she moves to a certain spot to text and stay away from customers so the cashiers can handle it all. When she is at a regular register she disappears and the Team Leads constantly call her to her register. You also have a manager in the footwear that treats customers and employees badly. She always seems to be in a bad mood and nothing is ever her fault. Anyway the front end won’t change unless you have a manager that will do what they can to keep the good help. The good help is looking for another job while you keep people that don’t like their job.

I went to the West Monroe Academy to look at the electric smokers. The only one I found that I liked was a Master Built electric smoker, priced at $249-. There were several signs in the smoker/ grill area noting that “We Match Our Competitors Prices”. I went across town to Lowe’s to view their electric smokers. All Master Built electric smokers are 10% off through tomorrow, Feb. 17th. I took a picture of the sign indicating sale price and date of ad -went back to Academy ( because they’d sold out of the model I wanted), and asked the girl to find someone to load up the Master Built smoker I’d seen earlier. I told her I’d seen their signs indicating they match competitors prices and that Lowe’s had a sale on all Master Built electric smokers-10% off through tomorrow- I tried to show her the pic of sign and said I could pull up the sale ad on my phone to prove it as well. She would not look and said it was only if I had the paper ad. I told her I’d driven all the way across town from Monroe to West Monroe, and since the signs clearly do not mention having a paper ad in hand, I believed-as do other major stores like Best Buy and Target- they would honor an competitor’s ad viewed on iPhone. She said they couldn’t do that, that it wasn’t their policy. I suggested pulling it up on her computer in office and printing it if she needed “paper”. She offered to let me speak with a manager, and the manager refused as well. My complaint is why post these signs and then demand a paper ad when that is not on the sign? We’ve done quite a bit of business with Academy over the past several years, and this was so unexpected. False advertising for sure! How about joining the other technologically, consumer-friendly chains that honor store ads pulled up on a customer’s cell phone. I just told her, ” Well, you just lost a sale.” and she seemed ambivalent, so I assume Academy must be doing very well and doesn’t need any business. I believe in supporting local businesses, but this is yet another reason I am happy to have Amazon Prime. They will get my transaction on this item… AND they deliver free!

Im sorry that happened to you it is unfortunate. We are only supposed to take physical paper ads, but sometimes there are exceptions, on another note we would not be able to price match an item from another store if they were sold out of that item

Went into an Academy this evening with my mom and sister. I was treated by the store manager and a store employee this evening as an annoyance. There were items marked in the girls youth department above the item that read 50% off Nike Pro Girls Workout gear. When I went to check out the employee checking me out called to have someone look for the said item. She came back and said that that item was not marked even when I said it clearly was. She left and I asked to speak with a Manager. I told them manager that the item was on sale but the employee that checked the item said it wasn’t. She still didn’t believe me so I asked her if she wanted me to show her. She then rolled her eyes at me and proceeded to follow me to that department where it was clearly marked as 50% off Nike Pro Girls Workout gear. She told me it was marked incorrectly. I told her that was an Academy mistake and that lead to false advertisement. I did take a picture of said item that they said was marked wrong. I did confront her to let her know it was clearly obvious that she was annoyed at me and she didn’t say anything. The rest of the check out experience was tense. Another employee came over just to put her opinion in on the items that she said were not on sale even after I showed the manager that it was. I’m not sure if the employees here are told the same thing by corporate but they all had a difference in opinion as to what was on sale and what wasn’t. I don’t know whether to post my picture of the item of FB and let them know what kind of experience I had or to just stop buying from that store (and a new store at that). In all the time, I have purchased from Academy this is the first store where there were a few employees who were rude but to see it from management, WOW.

This company makes a big deal about hiring veterans and yet they let go a disabled veteran without any reason. They would rather keep lesser employees. Went in to academy last night for my husband to purchase a hand gun. The associate was helping another customer, which I totally understand. After standing there for 15 mins and never being acknowledged we left. The associate could have said “I will be right with you” or something. We were going to purchase a $600 gun, and the 2 guys he was talking to ended up not purchasing anything. We walked around and looked at other stuff after walking away from the gun department. It was all about the customer service that was not provided. Another guy walked up to look at a gun when we were leaving the gun section, I’m sure he was ignored as well. I will go to dicks for the same item, I love academy over dicks because usually there’s more selections, but customer service wins on this deal.

My husband wanted a kayak for Christmas,so I keep going to the store to look at the kayaks and trying to figure out how I was going to get this kayak home buy myself. This kayak was on sale for $399.00, the sign said the sale went thru Jan 2nd.( so I just bought a gift card for the price of the kayak so we could go back and get it. Me and my husband went back tonight to get the kayak which is Dec 26 and the kayak was 549.00. I spoke with several different people about why it was $549 and not 399 when the sign said till jan 2nd? They told me that was a hot deal and they didn’t have anymore. I am so mad that I didn’t want to get anything but I had bought a gift card so he had to use it. We finally found someone to get the kayak down and there was no bar code so they had to give me the piece of paper with the price on it to take to the register. When they pulled the paper out the 399. Sign was still under it and they folded it up so we wouldn’t see it. We got to the register and the checkout girl was trying to figure out why it wasn’t 399 because she had that paper. This company is the biggest bunch of crooks that I’ve ever seen. We were going to buy all the assories that went with it but I would let my husband. I will go to Bass Pro and get the trailer, paddle, rod holders and everything else. I will never step foot back in your store. I tried to get my husband to return it once we got in the car and just go to bass pro and buy one but it wouldn’t. But as the night has gone on the madder he has got and looks like it might be going back. I’m not one to post anything on social media but I will be posting the picture of the to signs to let everyone what kind of company you really run.

This message will likely go unread but I will post anyway. I am currently still listed as an active associate at the Twiggs Co DC in Jeffersonville Ga. I worked there since October 2013. I was in the e commerce dept until about five months ago. I then worked in the Loss Prevention dept under manager Jamie McDaniel. During my five months as an LP associate I saw many things that were either unsafe or otherwise would be considered potential for loss of profits for the company. For example , we hired an associate who I will not name because of the extreme favoritism that takes place in this company. This person went into great detail explaining to myself and to supervisor Craig Smith about how he would withdraw cash from his ATM at his bank and then dispute the transaction, thus netting himself double the money . he also would dispute purchases from online sites like Amazon and eBay getting free merchandise. I was asked by my manager one day to write a statement in detail about what this person told me. Well ,apparently the HR dept had no interest in pursuing this matter and on my last day of actually working there Oct 23 2015 he was still employed there. I write this statement because over a month after my last day of working there ,I am still listed as active and cannot get my final paycheck from the company. I have spoken with a lady named Ann in the payroll department and she told me that I am still an active associate. My manager Jamie McDaniel has done what be was supposed to do and the whole reason for the delay is because the HR generalist Tangela Jackson has not finalized the termination. I have no idea what the reason would be for this delay and after at least 20 phone calls and left messages ,I feel like she is not going to do anything about it. Academy allows so many things slide that completely go against what the policies about discrimination state. I left to go back to a privately owned business which I worked for in the past and I feel like I will be treated fairly. Just the fact that the HR dept saw no reason to investigate the person I mentioned who basically steals money from his own bank and they feel like this person is a good fit for the Loss Prevention is beyond me. Great place to shop , horrible place to work.

I think Academy Sports +outdoors should put a store in beech grove Indiana.Beech Grove is a very busy traffic city right off the interstate.Thompson road and south Emerson would be perfect.A former Krogers Store at that site would be a perfect fit for Academy Sports+outdoors. There is another site will be empty soon in the same area Kmart.I’m just giving a suggestion it would even work better for the store if it were built to add a grocery store and some medical and laundrymat at the store. It would be the first for Academy Sports and very profitable fore the store.I think you should add a high tech arcade and bowling alley too.

For anyone *attempting* to send returns to Academy Sports & Outdoor; DO NOT send them to the 4100 Westpark Drive address!!!! They moved and refuse to file a change of address with USPS.
It’s been a loooooong agonizing process with a LOT of useless phone calls with Academy, but the CORRECT Returns address is:
Academy Returns Center
6049 Fulton Industrial Blvd
Suite C Dock 31 & 32
Atlanta, GA 30336
713.445.4400
According to them, there is a free FedEx return label on their website. I finally found it. It’s conveniently BURIED and their agents have NO idea how to help you find it. They just tell you it’s on the website (duh!). Go to academy.com/myorders and enter your order number, zip code and hit *Submit*. It will then open the page for you to select the *return* link (just below the fold, to the left). When that page opens, select a reason for the return and the number of items being returned. You will THEN be prompted to *calculate postage* and select to print your pre-paid label (it may require saving it to a file first).
So far I’ve only found ONE helpful person at Academy!! I won’t divulge their name for fear they’ll be targeted by the mass of incompetents employed by this company!!

This is a concern for your store on Emporium Circle in Mesquite, Texas. Your bathrooms are horrible and I am alerting the health department. Your floors are filthy and there is trash and tags in your fitting rooms. The shoes are so disorganized and shelves are full of dust with no prices. There is no help for customers and when I told a young useless employee in shoes. He said ” it is always like this” ” everyone quits” well I can see why. Your place is so unorganized and mixed up. No one cares

Since when did bad hygiene not become a concern for employers? We have tried several times to bring this issue to different people and nothing has been done! Who wants to shop in a store when you are greeted by someone who stinks like they haven’t bathed in months!! This is ridiculous and I feel that something should be done. If you shop the Academy in Huntsville, TX be prepared if “Brian” is ate the drone door!

I had an safety issue for you but I do not see where I can attach a photo here.

Academy does not care what customers think. They break laws and policies daily. They make associates work 13 hours without a break. They put damaged and used goods back on the shelf. There bigger items like fitness equipment have missing or broken pieces. They do not have the sale items in their flyers or any help on the selling floor. I used to be manager at Forest Lane and I saw the mess first hand. There is favortism and lies. Mesquite is also bad. There is lots of shoplifting and stealing of customers trucks and lots of stolen stereos stolen and customers complained daily about things under the wrong price. Academy is for workers and managers who are not experienced or don’t give a crap. Not for me. Worst job ever. I only lasted less than a year. I realized you cannot fix stupid.

As a manager you had the ability to fix the problem, but since you didn’t you became part of the problem,

They give false advertising! Signs on clearance items reading take an ADDITIONAL 50%OFF, DICOUNT TAKEN At register is not actually an additional 50 off. According to manager and other employees they just have a misprint or they tried telling me that it just means it’s 50% off! So y put take an ADDITIONAL 50%OFF IFIFyou’re not going too!! I wish I could add the pictures of the signs, called academy customer service still no response back, funny thing is after I told manager I would be calling he had employee taking sings down, SMH

Huntsville Texas store: Do not go to this store. The terms listed on your sales slip…”hassle free returns”…mean absolutely nothing o these people. They sell damaged goods then refuse to take them back. The term “Breech of contract” means nothing to them. You have to get your attorney to explain things to them.

It also says if it is in resellable condition and at the discretion of management.

I email customer service on 6-21-15 about a tent! We brought on the 6-16-15 used only one time it was staked and everything! And little wind came up and now the is no good. And customer service don’t want to get back to me! So I have had it with with Academy I will find another sporting store to go to.

The Academy in Mesquite Texas needs a total clean up. The place is so disorganized and looks just like an old warehouse. The merchandise is so high and no one to get it down. The clothing and pool supplies all over the floor. The benches are full of kids laying down and no place to try on shoes. Your restrooms are so bad and your parking lot is full of empty carts running into parked cars and scratching. The sales people look like gang members and about 12 years old with zero customer skills. The slow cashiers are terrible. I will not set foot in any Academy. Get a store manager who cares.

Hello,
I have been on the phone with someone in your customer service department currently for the past 32 minutes.
This is my second call, my first call was placed yesterday and spoke to a woman by the name Kathleen who I spent about the same amount of time on the phone.
The reason for my call to the customer service line is because I have been tracking a shipment (Bike- present for my husband’s Father’s Day gift) and noticed that FedEx had a notice that the package was damaged when it arrived in Irving, TX.
I immediately called FedEx to see how bad the damage was. If it was just the box I would have wanted the package to be shipped to me regardless due to the lack of time I have to find this bike and get it to me in time for Father’s Day.
FedEx representative told me I would have to call back in 3 hours. After that I placed my first call to Academy’s customer service line where and spoke to Kathleen. She was very sympathetic and I felt that she was willing to do all she can within her powers to make it right. Which I appreciated. She said she would call me back in 30 minutes and that she would find out from her supervisor as to what can be done.
Unfortunately I did not hear back from Kathleen.
On my second call (which I just got off the phone with. When asked to speak to a supervisor- I was placed on hold for 10 minutes to find out they were all busy and that they would call me back.) 38 minutes and 48 seconds wasted.
2nd Call I spoke with Cynthia Kay. I explained to her what happened and the fact that I checked on the FedEx tracking today and the package is now in transient to Lincoln, AL and wanted to know what’s gong on.
1.) She told me that it’s expected to be delivered tomorrow. I asked her to scroll down the tracking history where it shows that it WAS in Irving,TX yesterday afternoon which is only 30 minutes away from it’s final destination
2.) The package shows to be in transient to Alabama and that I need someone to verify what’s going on. Although FedEx shows that the package is expected to be delivered on 6/19/2019.
Then she checks the notes from my conversation with Kathleen the day prior and states that FedEx will not deliver the damage product and that it’s on it’s way back to the warehouse and that Academy will be issuing a refund. I expressed my concern with this whole process as I did not understand why a company like Academy did not have the capabilities to send out a new bike and have it express delivered to ensure I received it in time. I understand that it was not the company’s fault however I assume the company has a partnership with FedEx and considering since it was in the care of FedEx that they would eat the cost of the express delivery to ensure your customers are satisfied. That is what I would have expected to happen it’s truly not a lot to ask for.
I then asked Cynthia if the credit has been issued back on to my credit card and she told me, “No, the credit will be issued once we receive the product back. From there it would take 3-5 business day for you to see it credited to your account.”
This is absolutely unacceptable. My order was placed Friday- 6/12. The product was expected to be delivered a week after. Now not coming at all. And I will get the credit back now almost two weeks since it’s been charged to my account. And I didn’t even get anything. Correction, I got excited. I got excited to be able to give my husband an amazing FATHER a great FATHER’S DAY Gift that he’s been wanting so he can take our youngest bike riding. I got disappointment, frustration and now completely livid with how this whole thing has been handled.
As I waited for Cynthia to come back to (10 minute hold) she tells me that she was talking to another supervisor and he told her that the product will be arriving on Friday and it’s coming from Lincoln, AL. I asked her if she verified that it was a new bike that they are sending? She said she couldn’t tell me that but that her supervisor said it’ll arrive on Friday.
OBVIOUSLY her “supervisor” just pulled up my order and looked at the first thing on the tracking by FedEx which still says it’s coming even though it left TX and in transit to AL. I explained to Cyntia that her supervisor was looking at what we originally looked at and that it could not be a new package/bike because if it was 1.) I would assume it would be noted somewhere in Academy’s database of orders 2.) FedEx would HAVE to give it a new tracking number.
She literally laughed and said “Guuuuurl you are working me! I’m sorry but you are really going deep with this and my mind just don’t think that way.”
I’m sorry but this experience is not only mind blowing to me as I am in the industry of hospitality and service but it has been draining.
I have a family of 7, myself, my husband and 5 children ages 14, 10, 8, 6 and 3. I have an ounce of faith that maybe someone in corporate will make this right- if not- we will never spend another dime with Academy. And I will be passing this letter to my friends as family as well.
Thank you for your time,
Ava

You have some of the most ignorant cashiers ever. I had gotten a shirt off the clearance rack in your men’s area. I went to customer service to check out and this short Asian woman waited on me. She rang the shirt at regular price. I told her it was on clearance and she gave me a rude look and called the department. The girl told her that the rest of the shirts were on clearance and it should be ringing clearance. The Asian girl continued to argue and complain. I was totally upset and will never shop at your Mesquite store again. All the customers behind me were looking.

Your Texas store located in Mesquite 75150 has some of the worst employees ever. I guess you have a big turnover because I came across one the other day. I was in the men’s sportswear department and asked this short heavy set really young black girl with long braids where the work gloves were. She said she did not know and rolled her eyes and walked away. She said she was kinda new but never tried to look or ask someone. I understand a new person but to not even try?

Your Mesquite Texas store is a big mess and very unorganized. The clothing is on the floor and there are no tops and matching bottoms. The clothes are so mixed up and racks are so tight and disorganized that you cannot find anything. There is no salesperson in sight and when I finally went to the fitting room, I was ignored and the salespeople were standing in there playing. The dressing room I went in was full of clothes and empty wrappers. No one offered to clean it out. What a mess this store has become and the associates look like the lowest form of life. No respect and ignorant.
