On July 13, I tried on a size 12 (US) Karrimor Women’s Urban Jacket in the Waterford, CT store. It fit perfectly, but it was flawed: the hook-and-loop closure strips were applied to one side of the jacket only, rendering the closure impossible.
Since the jacket fit so well, I went online and found it available, so ordered it. When it arrived, I just hung it in the closet, thinking since the size 12 fit in the store, the mail-order jacket should fit as well. Two weeks ago, there was a downpour. I grabbed the jacket, clipped the tags, and put it on. To my complete and utter dismay, the mail-order size 12 jacket was much too large, and completely unwearable.
I cannot return it to my local EMS store, since it is closing and not accepting returns on purchases made after July 9, so I am forced to mail a defective item at a cost to me. I was told by customer service that EMS never sends return labels, even in the case of defective merchandise. I will be shopping exclusively at LL Bean and REI going forward.

    Dear Sir/Madam,
I am writing today to complain of the poor service I received from your Manager, Lauren Ayers on January 4, 2018 at Eastern Mountain Sports, Bridgewater, NJ 08807 store #6051.
On December 8, 2017 I purchased a pair of Smith Sunglasses. The lens on the left keeps popping off. Lauren looked at the sunglasses, popped in the lens, then popped it off and popped it in again. I requested a refund as I was not happy with the sun glasses and showed her the receipt (see attached copy). She refused to credit my credit card or even offer a store credit. Instead she said to call Smith regarding the warranty. I have called the 888-206-2995 for Smith Repair Policy, but only received prompts, with the final prompt directing me to their website.
What I find most annoying was the indifference that Ms. Ayers showed. As the store manager, I would have expected a friendlier or at least the appearance of a caring store manager towards the customer’s concern. Frankly, I was left with the feeling that she didn’t want to bother and brushed me off to the Smith policy. Is that the policy at EMS, even when the customer is showing proof of purchase?
I am greatly discouraged from returning to patronize your store. I have been a regular customer and have purchased running shoes in the past. My husband swears by your socks, Smart Wool. He is now considering other stores.
I look forward to hearing from you.

    Sincerely,

    Alice Stainner
