Meijer was founded in 1934 in Greenville, Michigan, by Hendrik Meijer, a Dutch immigrant. Originally a barber, Meijer decided to try the grocery business during the Great Depression. The first employee was Hendrik’s 14-year-old son Frederik (Fred) Meijer. Additional locations were opened in Ionia and Cedar Springs.
By the 1960s, there were two dozen locations in Western Michigan.
In 1962, the first modern layout “supercenter” design was opened in Grand Rapids. Fred Meijer took over the business when his father passed away in 1964.
Under increased competition from Wal-Mart, Meijer has had to lay off a significant number of employees in recent years. They have also outsourced almost all their Information Technology positions to India.
In 2011, long time CEO Fred Meijer passed away at the age of 91. In November of that same year, the company opened up their 200th supercenter in Swartz Creek, Michigan.
In 2013, the company ranked No. 19 in Forbes list of top 20 Private Companies.
In 2017, Meijer expanded into the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, with stores in Escanaba and Sault. Saint Marie, with a third location opening in the near future in Marquette.
Almost all Meijer locations are open 24/7/364, closing only at 7 PM on Christmas Eve and reopening at 6 AM on December 26th.
In December 2019, Michigan Meijer’s locations are setting up SOS payment kiosks for vehicle registration.
In May 2022, some Meijer customers found that their debit or credit cards were charged multiple times over several days for a single purchase. Meijer claims the problem lies in their processing company.
Today, Meijer is one of America’s largest private companies. They operate more than 200 stores in Michigan, Indiana, Ohio, Illinois, and Kentucky. In 2016, the company had annual revenue of $16.6 billion.

I shop frequently at my local Meijer store in St. Charles, Illinois and, though I’m not one who often passes along the praises of the employees I come in contact with, I need to do just that for Francisco, my cashier who works most mornings when I shop. You need to know that this man’s sole purpose is to make customers feel special while turning the mundane task of weekly grocery shopping into a pleasurable experience. He is calm under pressure, courteous, always smiling, and is someone who genuinely cares about providing the best customer experience that he can. I am also aware that other shoppers share this same opinion of Francisco as they openly relate to his warm heart and eager disposition the same way I do. Francisco is to be commended and complimented for all that he does for Meijer customers.

Re: Mt Clemens store on Groesbeck Hwy.
This facility has an issue scheduling help and repeatedly relies on one cash register during busy evening hours. The back up of customers tonight with perishables was approximately 25 people and stretched half way to the back of the store. If I go to the managers office they would normally try to get some help but tonight the manager on duty refused to help. Physical limitations already make the long walk past a dozen closed registers difficult for me, and any others of age or disabilities.
I do not experience this at any other location I visit.
The constant closing of this stores extensive quantity registers is not only an avoidable inconvenience, it also has resulted in loss of revenue as I and my friends are increasingly refusing to patronize this location.
I have witnessed other locations where associates are at registers waiting to check out patrons. These stores are not even necessarily located in affluent areas although, in my experience, that is more likely to be the case.
Your loss today, due to the negligent planning of this stores manager, coupled with the abusive response of its manager on duty, to my request for assistance at the cash collecting portion of my experience was small. Just a loss of barely one hundred dollars. However, this consistent inability to accommodate the needs of this stores cliental and community has already sent many to purchase thier needed items at one of the plethora of competing stores located within minutes of this location.
My only issue with this location is the fact that they are never available to take my money in a timely manner. If that doesn’t anger you, then you, your managers, and your entire organization are in the wrong business.
I have already shifted many purchase choices to competitors whose ability to function in a friendly, time sensitive fashion are more accomidating. My grocery and other miscellaneous purchases are all your store have left now.
I have, in that past, left entire carts of perishables in the aisle before when I couldn’t cash out.
No, I will not use the self serve terminals. Oddly enough, the lines there are also too long.

Does anybody else have a problem with Meijers pharmacy having one or more of their prescriptions not available and on order with their supplier? I get a message on my phone stating my prescriptions are ready and I go to pick them up only to be told they are out of one and they had to order it and mind you it’s a common drug. So I have to make an extra trip. Only this last they tell me it will be there at 2:30 alter that day, so I go to pick it up and they claim they still hadn’t got it and it will be available after the weekend. 3 more days adding to the 3 previous without my med. And 2 wasted trips.

Can you please tell me where you purchase your fresh/packaged meat from? With what’s happening in our world today my first priority will be to investigate every part of the meat process. My understanding is it can very well be packaged in the USA but the meat itself was raised, slaughtered and shipped from China. I’m hoping this isn’t the case with Meijer

I have been going to the lapeer meijer for a few years now. I want to give a big shout out to Julianne L. In the bakery department. We have been getting my kids birthday cakes from meijer for a few years and she is nothing short of amazing. My son wanted a frog cake, but there were none in the book to choose from. She took it upon herself to decorate (free handed)his cake with frogs and a pond and it was soooo perfect and cute!! My son LOVED it as did we! Thank you for always making our experience wonderful!!

Self checkout machines are a problem. If you place your own bag in which to put
your groceries it stops and you need to call someone. Last night, at tenRound Lake store in Illinois, the guy that was supposed to be there to clear the machine was wandering around talking on his cell so we had to wait for his convenience several times. If you are so worried that people are going to steal the close self checkout. By the way, where i work no cell phones are allowed during business hours. Someone needs to speak with you, they call the office number.
the next thing is the ID being scanned for beer or wine purchase. Where is that information going when you scan an id?? No one else locally does that, they simply call someone who merely by looking at you can see you are of age. So why do you scan customers id’s? What are you doing with that information? You should tell your legal department that this is totally unnecessary and inconveniencing the customer is not good business You should be required to place information about what you do with the public data you require.

Halloween is pagan a false religion and very wrong also just so you know and Christians happen to be very Offended by it. Can you please not have it in your stores its really Sickening to see to say the least. The Majority of the people that have money to spare are Christian oriented and do Not like false religion. And witches Jesus told us are wicked and they are WRONG why subject Gods people to that? Please get them gone and not promote anymore pagan halloween falsehood nor allow a nobody to force you to subject yourself to it, its not good.
It should not be about the money/greed. Greed is sin. It’s supposed to be about Pleasing Our Heavenly Father and Jesus and we are supposed to be good to one another as Almighty God told us to not forcing falsehood on people to see in stores offending us we don’t want the little ones getting the wrong impression and doing wrong we want them following Jesus that are Gods children. By doing their will perfectly on earth as it is in Heaven and trying to become perfect as Jesus told us to do so we can please Our Heavenly Father and Jesus and it can be done and in stores it could if one is willing and listens to their Holy word. The wrong we see in the stores is offending us like Halloween it is false religion falsehood.
I would like for you to know that Christmas is about God sending his beloved one and only begotten son to be born of a virgin and a Savior was born! Christ was born! Jesus the King was born! That is ONLY what Christmas Is about and it should only be shown that way to please us and Almighty God and Jesus. Its only the Nativity and Christian ornaments we should be seeing that best time of year.
Easter is about God raised Jesus from the dead. Jesus Is Risen Alive and well forevermore and with us always!
Jesus told us to share the good news that he is alive and well forevermore and with us always and I testify to you he is! I want you to know Jesus Is Lord and I have a testimony he is walking the earth til this very day in some in spirit also Almighty God is with us. It is a mystery to be revealed one day Our Heavenly Father told us in his Holy word in King James version.
God likes to talk to his children every day and he does me and others it is written in his Holy word google it if you don’t believe what I have told you . Almighty God sees all and hears all and we see what is happening in the stores as well all else it’s your decision what you do.
I am only asking that it become right for us all especially keeping pagan from being in stores.
Keeping the Christ only in Christmas and Nativity only that’s Our Heavenly Father Mary and Jesus and the Nativity and only Godliness/Holiness in Christmas please. It hurts us Christians to see otherwise.
He has given me knowledge of the love of the truth. Jesus also shows us the way Praise them I do!
I have a testimony they saved my life more than one time! But right now that’s not the focus the focus is me trying to do right by Our Heavenly Father and Jesus and everyone that belongs to Almighty God’s family. Those that are his do the will of Our Heavenly Father Im trying by trying to make a difference for the good.
We are not happy about False religion halloween being in stores displayed , that goes for Santa and others including the Easter bunny or anything that does not pertain to truth about the Holy days that are wrongly being called holidays.
Halloween, santa, the grinch, mickey mouse black ornaments, we are not happy about those things that are not about truth and we as Gods children and sisters and brothers to Jesus and owe it to them to honor their will and do their will perfectly as they want us to here on earth. True and faithful followers of Jesus Christ and those that love he and God who are their true friends to them will do as I am asking now that you know truth and keep the Holy days Holy only and truth only in them. Please help us to keep only Our Heavenly Father and the Nativity only in Christmas as that is what Christmas is truly only about. Please help us to keep the X out and Christ in Christmas White Christmas only is what we love and that’s truth. We would love a White Christmas if you would, it would be wonderful to see.
Santa and Easter bunny cause people to lie and that in turn makes them break one of God’s commandments Thou Shalt Not Lie. We should bring our children up in truth and teach them to obey our Heavenly Fathers Commandments and Jesus’s commandment he gave for us to Love one another. Please do this for yours and us.
I have ideas about Easter candy so you can keep making your sales hearts both chocolate and the candy colored ones that tell Jesus Is Risen, Jesus Is Alive and Well Forevermore, Jesus Is With Us Always, replace bunny with chocolate Hearts. On the hearts you can have them tell God raised Jesus from the dead. Easter baskets with White Bibles King James Version for the children to grow up in truth is the best Easter Gift they could possibly get so they can grow up in truth. I will try and get ahold of who makes the Easter Baskets and try to have them make baskets that has the word of God and Jesus in them it’s the best gift a child could receive in an Easter Basket as well as for Christmas from the shelves of the stores shelves.
Another idea for your sales is things in frames written on paper or wood that tell the same as well. You could make up the difference in your sales if you get rid of the ungodly by replacing it with what is the right Godly Truth.
The same for Christmas instead of chocolate santa’s and whatnot kind of like mentioned above for Easter why not do the same for Christmas? God Our Heavenly Father gave us Christmas and Jesus why not replace the wrong for the truth? Jesus saved you do it for him and Our Heavenly Father PLEASE! Get chocolate hearts that tell God gave us Christmas, or God gave us Jesus, a Savior was born, Christ was born you would not loose you would win sales! I will try and get a hold of the candy mfg companies to make it hopefully happen for us.
It would be wonderful to see only Godliness in stores as well. It is possible to replace ungodly things with Godliness and still make your money and even more possibly. The ungodly things can make you lose customers I hope you know the Godly things are only for the good and will only draw good customers in to your stores to buy things for their families and homes.
If you can make available King James Version Holy Word of God and Jesus in white cover that would be awesome and This could increase sales as well as you would be sharing the Good word and be sharing the love of the truth with others and please God and Jesus and God’s children you will be pleasing us think about it.
If you really love Our Heavenly Father and Jesus and your customers like you tell you will do like I explained to make them happier as well as Gods children that know truth and make possibly more customers Gods children happy that makes for more sales try doing that!
Help stand up and be a good soldier for Christ please and fight the good fight and live by truth and keep Christ in Christmas and the x and santa, grinch and all other that don’t pertain to the Nativity out of Christmas please for Jesus sake.
Think about what God and Jesus would want you to do!
Know that Our Heavenly Father provides for his children and Jesus shows us the way and carries us please praise them and Give Thanks to them every day if you can they deserve to hear it!
I ask for your help to clean up the stores so we see Godliness only!!! & let’s not forget Thanksgiving, Christmas and Easter are Holy Days maybe you can start making it told and seen that way in your stores nationwide. I would like to think you would want to stand up for Christ and fight the good fight like he told us to and do right I am a good person with a little knowledge of the truth and a big heart for Almighty God and Jesus and his family I cant sit back and be silent any longer.
Please do this for Our Heavenly Father and Jesus as well Our Heavenly Father sees what you do please stop hurting my Heavenly Father and Jesus and their family on earth.
NEED TO GET PAGAN GONE FOR GOOD AND CLEAN UP THE RACKS AND ISLES AND HAVE ONLY THE TRUE MEANING OF EASTER AND CHRISTMAS THERE FOR A CHANGE FOR THE GOOD

Rockey ” you state “God’s commandments Thou Shalt Not Lie”. Fact is that is not a commandment handed down.
The Ten Commandments (Exodus 20:2-17 NKJV)
1
“I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage. You shall have no other gods before Me.
2
“You shall not make for yourself a carved image, or any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth; you shall not bow down to them nor serve them. For I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children to the third and fourth generations of those who hate Me, but showing mercy to thousands, to those who love Me and keep My Commandments.
3
“You shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain, for the Lord will not hold him guiltless who takes His name in vain.
4
“Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy. Six days you shall labor and do all your work, but the seventh day is the Sabbath of the Lord your God. In it you shall do no work: you, nor your son, nor your daughter, nor your male servant, nor your female servant, nor your cattle, nor your stranger who is within your gates. For in six days the Lord made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and all that is in them, and rested the seventh day. Therefore the Lord blessed the Sabbath day and hallowed it.
5
“Honor your father and your mother, that your days may be long upon the land which the Lord your God is giving you.
6
“You shall not murder.
7
“You shall not commit adultery.
8
“You shall not steal.
9
“You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor.
10
“You shall not covet your neighbor’s house; you shall not covet your neighbor’s wife, nor his male servant, nor his female servant, nor his ox, nor his donkey, nor anything that is your neighbor’s.”
God for gives the sin’s of man.

Wow, just Wow! I would say you are being a tad bit excessive. If you do not care for the decorations, go in the other door of the store and stay away from that particular department. Ohhh wait… you won’t be able to go to grocery either because corporations generally put seasonal and holiday theme’s on everything, including most packaging, every single season. May I suggest you stick to buying your products online so that you are not tempted to look at anything but the items you need. Delivery will be sent directly to your door step so that you will not be offended any longer.

I was at Meijer shopping yesterday. It is, of course, a difficult time right now as we are all trying to deal with the coronavirus and the guidelines necessary to keep us all healthy. A man and a woman were in the same aisle as I was. The aisles are marked with arrows indicating which direction you are supposed to go so that you can allow the 6 feet social distancing needed. They were coming down the aisle as I was going up the aisle, in the correct direction. When I asked them to please move over so that I could get by without being too close to them, the man said “F**k you.” When I said “Oh my god”, the woman said they were christians and they took offense to my using the lord’s name in vain. Someone who can use the f-word like that is certainly not a very good christian. So I think you have a little more to worry about than Halloween. Christians need to clean up their own houses first before they start dictating to others what should be displayed in a privately owned store.

I have worked at Meijer for 7 year’s, and there is something that happens to me and a few of my coworkers, it dose not happen all the time, but when it dose happen none of us like it. We have even come up with our own word for this. We call it a clopen, that is when you have to close at 10:30 pm and be back at work by 8:00 am. I just came off of one of these, when I got home after my 8 to 4:30 shift, all I wanted to do was sleep, my body was so sore and exhausted, but I know that I just crammed 16 hours of work in a short time. This is like torcher for your employees, it makes you feel like you did something wrong, and your asking yourself why am I being punished. My body is still sore and tired from doing this, but I have to keep going till my next day off. it takes the body about 3 days to recover from doing a clopen, is there any way your company can stop doing this to their employees, it is really bad for the health. I don’t know if my body can take doing one of these again. Thank you for your time.

Today, I went to your store in Davison, as I always do on Sunday. This is my experience. First to the lettuce to find no product that you had on sale. When I questioned a stock person, she told my that there was not any and get a rain check. I then went to the deli and asked a person for lunch meat. During this time , she continued to talk with a staff person, stop slicing to talk with her, then took her time coming to weigh the item where she stop helping me and read the paper she was holding. I left for the coffee isle to find the Starbucks coffee on sale did not have the coffee I wanted. I asked a stock person if they had it in stock and he left for 15-20 minutes to see. This is the third time that Starbucks was on sale and you do not have mine in stock – Sumatra Whole Bean. While waiting I looked down the isle to see most of the sale items on sale had empty shelves. I asked to speak to the manager of which a woman head of the “Fresh” department appeared. When I told her my complaint her pat answer was the computer was to fault and that the management was not to fault. When I questioned the validity of her answerr, she said some items were order by staff, I suggested that the management of the store was not doing there job in maintaining stock when it was on sale. I have talked to management at this store before only to be told that the store had lots of new staff and the computer did not order enough. There are three other food stores in Davison- none of them seem to have this problem. Kroger and Walmart have no problems maintaining stock, why do you? You will lose that if the public comes to get an item on sale and it can;t be got especially food items. Everyone has to drive to your store and it you don’t have the items , why would anyone waste their time and gas to come to you.

First of all let me say I have been doing business with Meijers in Greenwood on Marlin Drive pretty much since the store opened up. Yesterday I went into the store and I use an electric cart due to just having 6 stints in my heart, I always take my granddaughter with me and she stands on the cart in front of me, not in the cart, but between me and the steering as she is only 4. Now everyone knows its not safe to have a little child walking next to you unless you can hold on to them, with all the abductions going on. I was stopped and told the store had a policy that would not allow her to ride in the cart like that, after we have been doing that since shes been old enough to stand. I walked out of the store and immediately called corporate and was told they knew of no such policy and that they would call that store manager and talk to him, I left my name and number with the gentleman on the phone and he never had the courtesy to call me back so I went to Walmart and got no complaints from them for letting her ride in the cart. I used to do all my grocery shopping at Meijers as well as all my family but not anymore till I get an apology and a call telling me their policy has changed.

First I will say I do 99% of my shopping at Meijers but that all changed this weekend. My husband needs to use a mart-cart right now because of a foot injury and we went to our normal Meijer(Cass and Groesbeck in Clinton Twp Mi). I had bottles to return so I did so and then went to look for a cart for him. There were about 5 of them out of order(unacceptable!!!!) and only about 3 working that were in use. I cashed in my bottle return and headed off the Walmart because of it, in turn spending $160 there. That is money Meijer lost because of there inabiltity to keep there stuff in working order for handicap people. I wonder how much they lose because of things like these. So disappointed!!! And to make it worse, the employees at that store use the broken ones as a seat for their breaks!!!

I have been shopping at the Meijer on 11351 E Washington St. Indianapolis In since the day it opened. It has been a wonderful experience up until the last couple of years. I generally shop there before 8am and the bathrooms are usually disgusting, the parking lot is always littered with trash and their are obviously no people at night who get the carts out of the parking lot. I understand that you cannot control people who throw trash in the lots but I would think there has to be someone on staff at night who could pick it up out of the lot when not a lot of cars are parked overnight. The overall appearance of the outside of the store is horrible. I have heard so many comments of people who are going elsewhere now because that store has really declined. The inside is clean. Its just not as appearance friendly as the McCordsville or Southport stores. A few years ago there was a great manager there and apparently there is not now. Very disappointed and I am about ready to switch stores because of it. I hope it changes soon and you get someone there who cares.

I have been shopping at Meijers on Harrison Ave, Cincinnati, OH for a year now & when it came time to look for a PT job, this is where I wanted to work. But finding a job has changed. You apply on company sites but, have no way of following up. Store HR is never available. However, Donna at Eastgate was kind enough to call me & let me know I had applied at the wrong store. Now that’s professionalism you can be proud of. I was a Paralegal/Fed Law until 9/11 & the professional job mkt got hit hard with downsizing. The only job I could find was Biggs. I was shocked at how people had to work in retail. But, Biggs taught me customer service, dedication & team work. Enjoyed so much, I stayed 16 yrs.. But those days are over. Now you don’t see the dedication in stores. However, what made me want to work at Meijers on Harrison Ave., was the employees. The older employees don’t go out of their way, they are just automatically friendly. They make the chore of shopping more like a visit. And their cashiers, like seeing friends. They carry on a job while chatting & being helpful. So even though my application doesn’t seem to fit, I would like to pass on why I shop at this particular Meijers. These people are carrying on a tradition you just don’t see much of anymore – genuine customer service. I hope you let them know they are appreciated. When I go there I feel like I’m back at Biggs & that’s a good thing.

Meijer in Richmond Indiana was selling Yoplait Oui yogurt and now have pretty much limited the yogurt to one kind. I am finding it more often that I am having to go to Walmart, Kroger or other stores to pick up items that Meijer use to sell. This seems to be a common issue around the Richmond Indiana area with Meijer store.
I buy the Raspberry and Blackberry yogurt and now cannot find it at Meijer but one or 2 jars every so often. I’ve spoken to the gentleman who stocks it from Yoplait and he says it’s Meijer demand, I’ve spoken to Meijer manager and department manager and got no place with them either.
At this point, I am feeling I need to stop shopping at Meijer store and take my business to Kroger or Walmart which is what I’ve tried avoiding since moving to Richmond Indiana in 2009.
Talk of Meijer not stocking items or deleting items so often is a talk on social media.
We love our Meijer store, but if you’re not going to sell things that customers want, we will need to shop other places.
As for this yogurt, I buy all that is stocked on the shelf so it isn’t not getting bought.
This seems to be common for multiple items. Or only putting 1 or 2 of an item on a shelf.

The pharmacy on Sunbury Rd. In Delaware Ohio sucks, they shut the drive thru down, when asked why they say we do not have enough people to handle it. Why don’t you close it permanently then, it is a perk. We have had numerous issues where the medication is not in stock but any other one has it? You then have to drive all over to get a script filled because no one knows how to handle the ordering. They need to get it together it is insane. The employees are rude as hell also!

I would like to thank the staff at the Plainfield Indiana pharmacy. I have a lot of health issues which means a lot of prescriptions the staff has went above and beyond to make sure I always have medicine. They have always took time to answer any questions I have. Great pharmacy and great people they go way out of there way to help you. Thank you very much!! I’m very grateful to have this pharmacy in my community.

I went to the Fraser location. I get one hour for lunch. On July 3 2019, I stood in line from 12:35 until 1:05 pm. I was late getting back to work. I work 3 buildings away. This is so ridiculous I’m so angry that management did not have all the registerers open during the holiday weekend. I’ll be taking my business to Kroger and I’m going to pass the word about how awful it is there.

I would like to add something about my Shopping Buffet idea: Colored carts for the people using Shopping Buffet and other color for people who are not doing it and I would like to jump the recommended price from $50 to $100 so that way you don’t go under.
Devin Homan says
I am a 23 year old who has an idea: Shopping Buffet. It is where a customer(s) pay for a cart for (you set price) but I would feel comfortable if the rate is at $50 and my royalty be $5 or 10%, whichever one is the highest. So someone comes into Meijer, they pay (set price) for a cart and shop and fill the cart for that (set amount) and I get paid at least $5/10%. I would like everyone to pay upfront before they go inside the shopping area so there won’t be steals for merchandise. Everything that is more then $20 will be put in the $100 cart and will keep track of merchandise by giving everyone a scanner, and once there is $20, then it will automatically charge for the $100 cart, which is also available.
Looking forward to hearing from you!

I have those problems too … and every meijer pharmacy is the same i went to Ohio… Indiana … and Michigan and they all do the same thing but i did write to the BBB about this .. They would not transfer my scripts to walmart i had to go 3 days without before i could get ahold of my doctor to resend them to walmart … I think it is terrible to play with someones meds like that .
PEGGY R says
I usually shop at meijers in battle creek michigan and i use the pharmacy.. the pharmacy always makes you do 2 trips to pick up your scripts.. they call and say your scripts are ready for pick up and when you get there they have part and the rest will be here tomorrow … or there not here they will be tomorrow … i dont know why they called you … so after many many many times of this i started to use walmart.. my doctor called my scripts in to meijer and walmart and I have made several attempts to have them sent to walmart… they send bits and pieces just so walmart dont have all the info to fill them… i had to go 3 days without my pills till i got ahold of the doctor to resend them to walmart… I will never ever use meijer pharmacy again … I also send a complaint to the better business bureau I hope i hear back from them soon

I visited the Meijer store on 8 mile and Woodward in Detroit, went in the store and not 1 shopping basket was in the store for anyone to use, being handicap accessible equipment is most useful but mostly broken or out of order signs posted on them. I feel if it doesn’t improve soon I will have to change my store to Walmart or Kroger’s

I just had my purse stolen at the Meijer on rt. 59 in aurora, il on Thursday, 6/14. The security guard Bill was very nice and helpful. Once the police officers were done with the reports, Bill recommended i go to the last place the thieves were and look for my purse. I did this and found my purse which saved me changing the locks at my house, replacing car keys, my glasses, etc. I was so glad Bill had recommended this. I did phone the store and thanked him profusely for this tip. One citism, FIX or update your cameras on building. Pictures were awful at best. Thank you, Terri Ray

Very disappointed with the inability of the home office to supply stores with sufficient ad quantities. 3 day ad on Hefty food bags, Thurs-Sat.. Stop in on Thursday afternoon and none of 4 numbers in basic home. No secondary display. Check on line on Friday and indicates ‘out of stock’. Check on line Saturday and all 4 numbers show in stock at 7am. At store by 8 am and only 2 numbers available. Employees were great trying to locate additional product but were unable to do so.
Sunday ad, 6 pack splash water on sale for $1. At store by 7:30 am and only 1 flavor in stock and only 4 units available. No secondary display. Brisk 2 liter on sale for $1. Only 6 in stock and no secondary display. I only bought 4 because another customer wanted some.
THESE ISSUES ARE NOT ON THE STORE AS THEY CAN ONLY PUT OUT WHAT CORPORATE SUPPLIES THEM WITH, though the vendor for Brisk only supplies what the store wants. Manager was currently talking to sales rep and told him that they needed a pallet of product but first of the week was acceptable. What about Sunday? Early Monday??
Of course, on the Sunday visit….the items from the Thurs-Sat 3 day ad were stocked full on the counter but that wasn’t helpful as 3 day ads don’t allow rainchecks?? WHY??????????? Doesn’t the consumer/retail law in Michigan require you to state how many originally available in while quantities last/no rainchecks?
Try sending ad quantities in days before the ad breaks, not the day before, not the day of.
VERY FRUSTRATING. NONE OF THIS FALLS ON THE STORES AS IS RESPONSIBILITY OF HOME OFFICE.

I attempted to post the following complaint on Meijer’s web page but it kept stopping me, saying I needed the store’s number or zip code. However, the space bar provided would not allow me to do so. In any event, here is the complaint I TRIED to send to Meijer: My wife visited your new Meijer store yesterday (Saturday, June 15) in Mentor, Ohio. We have shopped there several times since it opened a few weeks back.. While some of the prices have been excellent and some pretty competitive a few have shown themselves to be higher than at other locations such as Giant Eagle. Still, our overall experiences have proven positive. That being said on the nice things both my wife and I were thoroughly disappointed in your “Kitchens Seafood Traditional Favorite” stuffed clams that we purchased yesterday. I’m not sure but the best I could guess is that the clam’s stuffing may have been brushed against the crab meat for all we tasted – and saw – was stuffing and really not much else. And the stuffing itself was dry and lumpy. None of the nine clam products were really very appetizing for either my wife or me, though our two Labrador retrievers found the stuffing at least as digestible as a Milk Bone biscuit. In any event, perhaps your seafood buyer needs to contact Kitchens Seafood and tell it to, you know, actually add some crab meat instead of just wiping the stuffing over some crab residue.

It is 9:45 A.M. on a Saturday, I have just returned from my Meijer’s on James in Bolingbrook. It was a quick trip until I decided to wait in a line of about 8 people instead of one with 2 people because I wanted to have the always happy Hardeep, the checker do her usual efficient job. A man in front of me commented about the happy Hardeep and expressed my same feelings that in the last 17 years of shopping we have noticed a downturn in attitude of many of the employees as well as at times a less than complete supply of some products, especially early in the morning (8-9 A.M.). Management needs to remind employees to be kind and accommodating. So this note praises Hardeep , your best Meijer company rep. in the store!
One complaint is the smell of smokers as one approaches the door, I have told customer service about this at least 5 times but today again that smell was about 5 feet from the door. I almost turned around to go to Weber
Road Meijer, but that is much farther for me to go.

I am so disappointed in Meijers the way they mark some of their products. My main peeve is the way they Mark Jose Cuervo products. Quite often Jose Cuervo gives a $4.00 Rebate with their Marguaritas. HOWEVER, Meijers will not mark the product correctly on your sales receipt and Jose Cuervo will not accept the rebate submission. My sales receipt is always marked “Prepared Cocktail” and Jose will NOT accept that. I lose out every time I purchase that product at Meijers. It is now at the point where Meijers WILL NOT display the rebate slip to their product. This is so wrong, cheating their customers.
I’ve had numerous discussions with Meijer employees. It is always going to get fixed, however, it never does.
I promosie you THIS IS THE LAST TIME I WILL PURCHASE THIS ITEM AT MEIJERS. Walmart is down the street and I purchase more and more items there now that Meijers. Please give me a decent explanation why this product is marked like this cheating your employees out of their money.

Store 165 five years ago was a store that had very high worker morale and you had a good idea what hours you were going to generally get the next week. Now the store is a disaster. We have a store director that has no clue how to speak with or delegate tasks to managers . He comes in to the store in the morning and just pulls you off whatever task or role you are on . We have a lines leader telling us to do one thing ,our team leader another and finally the director who does not rely on his managers so he just micro manages everything and pulls us wherever and leaves the employee to explain to his or her team or lines leader why the previous task was not completed. Hours are a joke and coming into the store now I have no clue where I will be and have to beg to get more than 15 hours after I was taken out of a 40 hr a week position to help in other departments where employees were fired or quit. I floated around the store so long helping where needed that my original position was replaced. So I ended up somewhere else which gave adequate hours but since Sandra Patrick left store 165 a few years ago Store Director Joel Golden only gives depearents the bare minimal hours and expects all part timers to go on a days notice where he tells them . We had 9 employees in our department 2 years ago and had plenty of hours before the big Tax break our company received from the President of the USA and now we have 6 employees and have no hours!? It is an insult to watch classes of new recruits come in and out every other weak. Truly sickens me as a hardworking longtime employee for the company when I no longer getting enough hours to qualify for my states work minimal hours for benefits!!!!

There are 6 members in our family and we have been customers of the Meijer store in Lincoln Park since it has opened (at least 10-15 years). The customer service within the store is poor. The only satisfactory customer service is in the produce department. My least favorite experience happens at the Pharmacy. Whenever I receive automated phone calls that a prescription is ready, I never know which person the script is for. When I call the pharmacy and talk to a technician named Devon, she gives me a difficult time each and every time I call. Even though the Pharmacy has caller ID, and I identify myself when I call, I am asked the rhetorical question of “what is the birth date”? I ask which one, the automated call does not specify who it is for. Devon then replies: I need a birthday. I then have to give her a litany of birthdays as there are 6 people in our household. When I ask her to just look up the last name in the computer she tells me that she is required to ask for the birthdate. She gives me resistance every single time I call and I’m tired of it. I called one time to ask her what medication of my husband’s was ready. She told me that she could not release that information and that I had to sign a release of medical information form. Are you kidding me? Obviously not. I filled out the forms and gave them to the technician. I had to give Devon 3 birthdays before I got to the person who had a prescription ready. The prescription was for my husband. I asked her what prescription was ready? She had the extreme audacity to ask me if I had previously signed the “release for medical records information prior”. I sarcastically said “YES”, and said would you like to put me on hold while you check? Of all of the years I have been coming in to pick up medication, Devon is the only one to ever ask me to sign a medical release form 15 years after originally becoming a customer. No one else asks me for my height, weight, and finger prints when picking up meds. She is NEVER FRIENDLY, and constantly challenges me. She explains to me that she is just doing her job and is the only one following the rules. People like DEVON make Meijer look inadequate, inept, unprofessional, and lacks the skills necessary to help a frustrated customer. Devon needs to be fired for her blatant lack of respect for the customer. If she doesn’t leave, our family is pulling out of this store. HOPEFULLY SOMEONE IN THE HIERARCHY WILL ACTUALLY READ THIS EMAIL AND RESPOND. Disgruntled in Lincoln Park, Mary Oziem – you have my email, please respond.

Hello, I was at your 12/Mound store in Warren Mi tonight. For a long time, there is always a problem of all scooters with no power. Your employees do not charge them. They just let them sit there. Tonight there were 7 shopping carts in a handicapped spot and 3 scooters. I took one scooter in but it had to be charged. I could not use it. Once I made it in the store there were 6 scooters. NONE of them charged. TWO were broke. What good is that??????? Very POOR management. Very LAZY employees. FIRE the managers who don’t do their job. FIRE the people who do not bring in the shopping carts. FIRE the people who do not keep up with plugging in the scooters. This is ridiculous. You are sending a message loud and clear that you do not care about your customers since YOU DO NOT CARE if your employees are doing their jobs. I certainly hope you take care of this matter. If it was my store, I WOULD definitely want to know about it and I WOULD SURELY fix the problem. Even if it meant FIRING the lazy people.

Hi! First of all, Meijer is my store! I love it the most! The products are great, the prices are fair. the sales are super, and the employees are so nice!! I just read that Walmart is letting their greeters go. The article said that most are disabled or older people who really need the jobs. The Walton Family is already very wealthy, but it isn’t enough for them. Instead of being happy with what they have, they keep searching for ways to get more, even if it hurts others. My daughter, granddaughter and I shop at the Bowling Green, Ohio Meijer usually every Friday. Last week my husband had cancer surgery on Friday, so my daughter went on Sat. The greeter-Donna that day-inquired about me and wished my husband well. The checkout girl did as well and even the guy at the lottery area did the same!!! It feels so good to know the people actually give a darn about the customers. I haven’t shopped at Walmart for a number of years because of the way they treat their workers and more. I ran a food pantry for 21 years and was very familiar with the shady things they did. Meijer is an upstanding store and I tell all my friends all the time to go get this or that on sale. The meat is great, the produce is great-honestly you are just GREAT!!! Will be going in tomorrow with the fam, using some of the fantastic coupons you have sent me this month. Please keep the greeters-I would not feel the same about you if you let those dear people go. They are a great way to start the shopping trip!! Sharon Current, Grand Rapids, Ohio

I cannot believe MEIJER’S stores anymore.
I could always pay my Meijer’s credit card bill in the store.
Went in the Lincoln Park, Mi store to pay the bill .
Had the money and the bill..I remember the worker would scan the bill or type my name in.
Now this one said that They could not take the payment because I did not have the credit card.
I usually would send my payment in the mail thought since I was out; went to the store(save postage and checks) to pay it and they would not take the cash to pay the bill.
What is wrong with Meijer stores anymore.
Seems like ever since Fred Meijer passed away things have changed so much in these stores!
No wonder I prefer going to other stores…Can’t even pay in full a payment .!!!!

Terrible repeated costumer experience at US30 Merrillville, IN. Nobody really cares about, and the Manager neither. In Walmart and Van Til they do care, then I buy there because you only complain once and they fix the situation and apologize, in Meijer they only care about your money.

I hope you are going to continue to carry Disposable Essentials Latex gloves. I is so annoying when you find a good and useful product and then you quit carrying it. You did this a number of years ago with the clean sleeve for public toilette breaks. A piece of plastic in the shape of a tube that went on the public toilette so you know it was clean. Very handy for children. The gentleman who was making these has since gone out of business as he could not get any large contracts. I did order them from him for the years he was in business. You might try to contact him again. If there is any advertisement, I guarantee that you will sell them. Please and thank you.

I have had a very bad experience with your Bloomingdale, IL pharmacy. More than once I received voice mails saying that my prescription was ready. When getting to the pharmacy, the clerk looked on the computer, and said, “We don’t have anything for you.” Also more than once, when I went to pick up my meds very soon after receiving a voice mail, they could not find my order, and I was made to wait while they filled it again. The worst experience was when, after my doctor sent a prescription over for me, the woman pharmacist said they did not receive anything from the doctor. When I called the doctor to confirm, the said they did send it over, and did not understand why they had to send it again. The doctor was not happy about this. Then, of course, the pharmacy did locate the original prescription. The woman pharmacist was rude and arrogant when addressing this situation, and not willing to admit she made a mistake. She does not seem to run a very organized department, and being disrespectful to a customer is not very professional. I’m sure that Meijer has much higher customer service standards than this.

Used home delivery for the first time. I was happy with my shopper but shocked by the cost. First shopper said she could not give me the Meijer receipt. I can understand why Shipt would not want me to see it. Their charges to me were $255.09, tax $7.33 for a total of $ 262.42. I got a $15 credit for first use. The problem was I demanded to see receipt. My Meijer receipt was $229.10 and everything was tax exempt. WOW that was on top of the $14 monthly members fee. Then there was the tip. I gave her $40 because shs fell in the Meijer parking lot yet still delivered the groceries. I love Meijers but I can’t. afford these ridiculas charges. Shipt rep told me I had to expect a $5 overcharge for every $35 spent. Jewel delivers with no membership fee, no tipping, and not the $5 fee for every $35 spent. I never thought I would have to say good by to Meijer, but at 71 years old I can’t afford your service. It’s hard to believe you didn’t protect your customers.

I shop regularly at your Rolling Meadows, IL store #228, and generally always receive great customer service. On 8/11/18 I was checking out and the lines were a bit long, and as I was standing there one of the clerks from behind the customer service desk came over and said ma’m come with me. When I turned I saw that there was a couple with 3 very small children and not much In their cart so I asked them if they wanted to go first. The clerk grab my cart and told us I don’t have time for this. She took my cart purse and all into the next lane very aggressively.
I started to unload my very full cart (transaction ID A0228042NG6WNOS) and was trying to unload as quiickly as possible, when the clerk stated you need to get another cart right now. I asked her if I should continue unloading, or if there was someone who could get the other cart. No response, she just starts putting my grocery bags on the ground and calls for someone to bring a cart. I asked her not to put my food on the ground due to the floors being dirty. She continued anyway. The next cart came and she just started throwing the bags in the cart. My heavy items were on top of my bread and fruit so I ask her for a moment to let me shift some items. She just kept going, and I am literally pleading with her to slow down or stop. She just starts spinning the bag carousel around and around and my food that was in the bags and on top starting flying out of the bags onto the floor. I told her sorry I chose to spend this much money and she had to deal with that. The couple behind me is now asking on my behalf for her to stop, she then just walked away in the middle of my transaction went back to the service desk and another clerk came over.
At this point I am very upset and just wanted to be done. The bags were all torn and ripped because of the way she was throwing them. I made my payment of $350 dollars and left the check out and asked for a Store Manager. The Store Manager Rusaland came over and asked if I was OK she saw I as shaking and upset. I told her that I drive 20 minutes from where I live to come to this specific store because I usually have great customer service here. She was very understanding and apologized and offered me a gift card, which I told her was not necessary, and I did not take it. I told her I never generally complain about things, because I try to think about the fact that maybe that person had a very bad day, but I was treated so terribly that I needed to say something.
The clerks name was Melissa.
I truly feel she needs additional training regarding customer service. This is not who you want to have working with your customers in any capacity. Customer service is everything in the current state of our economy, and big box stores closing so rapidly. I am not sure if I will shop this location again.

My ex wife is an ex Meijer career employee. She divorced me 5-6 years ago. The divorce judgment called for a 50/50 split of our retirement benefits and I complied in a matter of days. My ex-wife and I both turned 65 several years ago and I’ve seen nothing from my ex-wife. I’ve been in contact with the human resource department looking for my ex-wife’s part for 8-10 months. I got a real chuckle this morning, I called to follow-up on a form they supplied, as I completed and returned it. I was hoping for resolution, Ha Ha.
They could not find the form but graciously explained they would “open a case”; I’ve been down that road with them before, I’m confident I’ll get no where again. THE ABSOLOUTE WORSt PART IS: they just do not care.

In the past few months every time Im ready to check out there is only one or two lines open. I have complained a few times already. Today there was eight people with full carts waiting on one register. I asked the supervisor to open another lane. I was ignored. I got tired of waiting had to go to self check out. I work at store 216 in receiving. Lately myself and coworkers of mine have been dealing with the issue of under staffing and poor management. On some days management is awesome but on other days with different managers, it is not so pleasant. As for under staffing, on days we get large loads of both gm and grocery, we only get help for the morning. The night i am writing this out it was only myself and one other person working with little to no help from any managers. On a side note my coworker got yelled at tonight for acXXXXulating overtime last week and it was a result of this very issue of management. We are told we have to stay until the trucks are unloaded but get yelled at when we get overtime because there are only 2 of us for the entire load. The manager that ha been the most problematic is Jeff Goodspeed.
I would like to please remain anonymous if possible as he has been known in the past to retaliate towards people to report him.
Thank you for your time.

I’m leaving a post in reguards to an incident that happened at your Mason, MI store yesterday. A young lady was approached and harassed to the point she needed to make a scene in order to protect herself and her young child. He finally left her alone but she later found out that TWO MORE incidents happened in the parking lot shortly after and similar to hers. She feels as though this was an attempt to kidnap/traffic her and or her child and sadly she/they have been informed that outside cameras are poor at best and pretty quickly blew them off. As a mother with a daughter and newborn granddaughter that live just a few miles from this same store I am making a plea, not just to you as a corporation, but to other stores like yours (Target, Walmart, etc..) that you make a loud and visual step forward to aid in the stop of human trafficking. I am pleading with you that you look into some type of program to set up in your home state, which ranks #2 in this horrible epidemic, to keep your properties and your patrons safe. Whether it be in store call/panic buttons, more security on the floors, or a employee walk to your car policy……something, ANYTHING. I know this won’t be easy but it is doable. PLEASE check this story along with others and take the first step.

I have been shopping at the Meijer at Van Dyke and 16 mile in Sterling Heights since the day it open. I’m sorry to say that this place has really gone down hill. I go there once or twice a week to shop. My last few shopping trips have been very bad, The shelves are not stocked, if there is stock it is on back of shelve and cannot be reached I have asked for something and worker had gone back in dairy and comes back and said they are out but behind the glass stores you can see all kinds of stock. Ask a manager and he checked and bought me what I wanted which was Coffee Mate liquid original but did not bother to put some out for the next person. They are very short of help everywhere. Deli and Service desk is really under staffed. Right now the store looks like it is going out of business.. Today when I ask the manager he said oh we are going to remodel. What good is that when you cannot operate the store you have now. There are never enough cashiers open and I refuse to use self serve when I have a cart full of groceries. I could go on and
on about all the things wrong in this store. They are building a large new Kroger store on 18 mile and Dequindre soon and if this store does not show any change I and many others will be moving on. I feel I have given this store several chances to change but it has not happen and frankly I do not think it ever will. I would like to stay at Meijer as it is close to home and I know where everything is but after my last few shopping trips I do not see myself shopping there again.

Have shopped at Meijer for groceries almost exclusively for over 20 years. We moved to Zionsville, IN 3 years ago from Avon, IN and now I find myself in a cornered market with the Marsh Supermarkets closed. I am so tired of having to pick through Meijer’s “fresh” produce for items that aren’t spoiling, check dates on everything I pick up and stand in line for 10 or 15 minutes because the management hasn’t responded to the influx of new customers forced to shop at Meier. I am finished shopping there. I will drive 5 or even 10 miles further to find a grocery store where I know I can get fresh food and not have to wait to check out.

I was in the bakery area and witness a child in a cart. he was close to the table the store made cookies were on. the child had open a plastic tub of cookies and had his little nasty hands in there. the mother caught her son and closed the tub up and walked away. I seen a similar thing a few years ago and told the floor manager this and nothing happened. HOW HARD WOULD IT BE TO PUT SOME LABILE TAPE ON IT SO IT CANT BE OPEN TIL YOU GET IT HOME AND RIP IT. THEN I COULD ENJOY THEM AGAIN!!!

I would very much like to know why the store Director at 286 hasn’t been terminated. She is ghetto , rude, obnoxious, and should have never been put in in a position of leadership. Her management skills are pathetic she does not no how to talk to customers as well as employees she is known to curse at employees right before customers she has caused very good employees to leave because of her ghetto and childish behavior. U also have regional managers that need to be replaced or reprimanded in the past I have bragged on how meijers corporate was known to rectify situations right away but in this case I really don’t understand why Selena Yancy at 286 is still there as well as the new ap team leader Phillip as well as Jim roper and Kyle Wooten all these people should have been reprimanded but Selena Yancy in particular needs to be terminated… It’s almost as though u all have been waiting for the store to fail and it will under her leadership. She has a track record of numerous complaints from customers to employees alike. Under her leadership sales continue to fall. It has been said on numerous occasions that no one wants to be store Director at 286 that is why she has remained there. It almost seems like like the Flint Michigan water crisis because Flint is predominantly black or afro American it wasn’t worth sparing innocent lives from dying and or being affected. This seems like the same situation. Something severe needs to happen under this woman leadership before you all respond. U already have an ap team leader that doesn’t care if things are stolen from ur store and regional managers that are just as bad as a former employee of ur company I find these things deplorable. U don’t pay enough as it is I realize ur company is really for some one retired that doesn’t require much but not a company u can make a living with the only ones that get rich with ur company are those at the top and it’s sad when the Meijer family is richest family in the state of Michigan.. It’s a sad truth but yet it is the truth… But as the saying goes u get what you pay for so I guess that would mean that the store Director at 286 Selena Yancy is who u guys want which also sad when you have persons right there in the store that run circles around her as a director as well some outsiders that could do far better… When u don’t have respect for ur own employees how do you expect this woman to respect ur customers… This woman has been known to disregard corporate… Again I she should have already been terminated… I really want to see how u all respond to this……..

This letter is for corporate. I have changed names to prevent any legal damages,
I am a former employee of Meijer Evansville, IN. I just quit this past Friday Sept 8th 2017.
The reason I quit? My “team leader” was anything but. I worked in the gas station. I use to work 2nd shift and would hear all these stories from 1st shift people about how much favoritism was a factor, but I never saw it first hand, until I was moved to 1st shift. I realized that my team leader and a co-worker had a very close relationship. I was told that in order to be a full-time employee, I had to have an open availability and be willing to be scheduled different shifts as needed. Which was fine, but I let my team leader know that I only had one car and so I was limited to the shifts I could work, and she seemed fine with that. I started working 7:30-4pm and I loved it, but when another co-worker was unable to come into work until 5:30pm, I was told I HAD to work mid shifts. I only had 1 car, and my fiancé’s work schedule did not permit me to be able to wok until 5:30. When I expressed this to my team leader, we’ll call her Nancy, she said I am full time and I had to do it. Meanwhile, Nancy’s best friend, my co-worker, we’ll call her Abby, was never asked to move from her shift 6am-2pm even though she did have two cars and people who could watch her son. That was just the beginning. The kicker happened when Nancy went on vacation. Now Abby already thinks of herself as Nancy’s assistant, so she would always boss everyone around. But when Nancy left for vacation, a paper was found in Abby’s handwriting with steps to take on the computer. These things were very sensitive and classified info that only Team Leads and Management were allowed access to, but for some reason it was in the handwriting of a team member. My co-worker, Billy, saw it first and sent it to management. That very same day, Nancy came into the store, attacking Billy, telling him he just wants her job, that he was liar, and she sees what type of person he really was. She told him he should have came to her first, even though our :open door policy” states that we can go to any manager about an issue without fear of retailiation. That was obviously not the case. I was asked to write a report about the issue, and anything else I felt the need to. So I reported on the incident, I stated that she talks bad about other team members behind their back to Abby, about their work habits, but never speaks about the issues to the actual person she is talking about, and even goes so far to deny saying anything bad when the person she was talking about find out about it. It was all high school stuff. She would tell Abby that Alex is lazy, then tell Alex he does a great job, and so on. None of that is why I quit, if you want to act like a child, fine, I’m still going to do my job, but the fact that Nancy was NEVER reprimanded for retailiating against Billy after he reported her for non-compliance, just shows me what type of management yo have running that store. Even THAT isn’t why I quit though. Thursday, August 31st, I was at work and in the bathroom getting sick. When I came out, Nancy asked me if I needed to I could go home. She stated that she really needed me to be sure to come in on the weekend because it was my weekend to work and she didn’t have anyone else to cover it, I told her I would do my best to be well enough to come to work. Then Nancy told me that to ensure I get well and come in the next day, Friday Sept 1st, she would try to find someone to cover my shift and if she couldn’t find anyone, she would let me know. I was very appreciative. I go home and rest, I wake up the next morning about an hour before I am to be at work, and noticed I hadn’t received any calls or messages from Nancy, but I want to be sure, so I send a text message. I mistakenly send a group message between Nancy, Abby, and myself, and don’t realize it until I receive and message from Abby, saying “We don’t know anything about covering your shift. Did you call in?” I then text back, stating “no, Nancy said she would try to cover it. I got a reply that said “she doesn’t know what you are talking about” Now I am mad because Nancy is allowing Abby to answer for her. So I call and speak to Nancy who says she doesn’t remember saying that, but she will call the store and let them know of the misunderstanding.
Thursday Sept. 8th I look to see that I have gone down a level for an absence on Friday the 1st. I am so angry, and I know that everything she has been putting me through has been retailiation for reporting on her. BUT I STILL DONT QUIT… I know, I can handle a lot. The straw that broke the camel’s back was when I woke up at 7am, when I was supposed to be at work at 6. I was freaking out and immediately call the gas station. Our night shift, Devin, answered, he tells me he called Nancy and told her I wasn’t there a while ago. When I call Nancy, she doesn’t seem surprised in the slightest. I had not received a single call or text message the entire hour I slept in. That’s important, because whenever someone is 5 minutes late, Nancy is blowing up their phone with calls to figure out where they are, but she NEVER called me. I knew that if I got pointed again, that would give her grounds to get me fired. She was mad that I questioned her professionalism with Abby, she was mad that I reported on her. To this day, I have not had a single text or phone call from her asking what was wrong, why I am not coming in, and the such. And this is someone who used to say she felt like I and all my co-workers were like family to her. It is obvious to me and EVERYBODY else there, that she treats Abby like a daughter and best friend, and we will always be second to Abby. This “team leader” should have lost her job after breaking the open door policy, the fact that she is still there should make you question the management staff you have working at the Evansville Meijer.

Please quit doing all the sale signs…I look at the weekly ads and if I want curtains I go to a store that has them listed in their ad. Yes I do shop around but why spend the time and money for all the signs and no one even knows it’s on sale? I would rather have low prices all the time where I would know that for the most part I am getting a great deal at your store. There are so many signs up that you can’t hardly shop in some areas of your store. I know you have to spend a fortune on the signs…yes this is petty but I’m so tired of seeing signs up on something that I did purchase elsewhere but I didn’t know it was on sale at your store. Also, I would rather have a Wednesday or Thursday ad than a Sunday one. By the time the weekend rolls around you are always out of items. Kroger is beating you big time on this!!!

Corporate-can you PLEASE hire more cashiers!!!!!! I go to your Portage IN and sometimes Highland IN locations twice a week and most of the times I wait longer in line then I do actually shopping. I have never seen a chain that only has 4 cashiers on a weekend. I love Meijer but at least Walmart and Target are considerate of customers time and have enough check out lanes

I came to Michigan, from Florida to bury my mother. My sister worked at Meijer (13 and Little Mack) since the day it opened. She worked in the cash office and has recently retired. She said order Moms party trays from Meijer. So I did. I called Meijer to order party trays for my mothers memorial. I figured if my sister worked there that long it must be a good place. I ordered a couple party trays and a sheet cake. I have my confirmation numbers from ordering. 10103555. While we were burying my mother, we sent the guys to go pick up the food and meet us at the church hall. They called and said they only have one tray and the cake. Well, after 45 minutes of waiting, mourners, family, and friends were leaving. Meijer said they didn’t have enough chicken to make up a full tray so the guys ran around the store trying to find food for the memorial. It was so embarrassing to have family and friends leaving. I contacted Meijer later that day and was told they could make up a tray for me, but I would have to pick it up right now because the manager said he was leaving for 10 days. I my self was leaving to go back home to Fl in 2 days. What am I going to do with a party tray AFTER the party? I am still getting phone calls from relatives about the disaster. We ended up spending twice as much as we had planned. I was so disappointed in Meijer that I will NEVER use them again and YES I will tell everyone how stressful they made the saddest day of my life even more horrendous.

The two stores in the Rockford area had an add for whole chickens for 68 cents a pound each stor recieved 1 case per store per day. The corp office should not allow this type of shortage. Never enough to keep up with supply and demand. In my opinion these two stores need to pack up and go back to Michigan.

I’m still very upset from an incident late this afternoon & I hope Meijer CEOs will care enough to do something about it. It started over 2 weeks ago when I called Meijer telling them I did not get a $2 MPerk. The gentleman wanted me to bring my salads back..Why would I have to do that…using more gas when I could bring my receipt & empty containers in when I shopped again.? He connected me with a woman. She, too, wanted me to come back in & bring the salads. I told her what I told him & she talked to her Supervisor who took my name & address & said she’d mail me the money. I went to Meijer to shop Saturday night & went to the service desk & told the woman there my problem & that I never received my money. She said that wasn’t Meijer policy & that it probably was deli meat or I’m talking about a different store! I ought to know what store I went to & have since the store opened over 20 years ago & have spent thousands of dollars there! I told her that this woman had told me this . She talked as if she would never have told me this….not Meijer policy. I said maybe it wasn’t policy, but this is exactly what the woman told me. She talked to me as if I was lying! Then gave me the $2 & popped off about it not being store policy. She walked away & I asked if she was calling me a liar. “Oh NO!” What would you call it then….I had the receipt? I went ahead & did my shopping there, as usual! I decided to call the store manager today & got a woman named Heather. When I asked if she was the store manager, she hesitated & then said “NO”….he was on vacation. I told her the problem. She proceeded to talk to me as if I was a liar & that no one working at Meijer would ever tell me what the other lady did ’cause it’s not store policy! WELL, she did & the more she talked down to me, the more upset I got. Then she says, “If you talked to the other woman like that, I can see why she was nasty to you”! I am very upset. No one has ever treated me this way & I didn’t deserve any of it. It took me all evening to be able to send this. Is this the way Meijer employees are trained to treat their customers….long-time customers, at that? The lady I talked to Saturday nearly 8:30pm was an older woman, heavy-set, gray hair, not pleasant to anyone…I have observed. There’s another one with dark hair that is very sweet…not there at the time…don’t want them mixed up. I talked to this Heather between 4 & 4:30pm Monday afternoon! She was the very worst….treated me horribly & if I was her boss, she’d be fired immediately! That is no way to treat a loyal customer! I should have waited ’til the manager came back. I asked this Heather if she was the manager. She hesitated & said “Well, he’s on vacation & I can help you!”. The way she talked to me, I wouldn’t call that helping me! I will be waiting to hear from a CEO & will never shop at Meijer stores again if something isn’t done about this! I’ve shopped at this store faithfully for over 20 years & have NEVER been treated this way before! I am very saddened I was treated this way!

You say you have a customer care department but yet you insist on removing items from your shelves that a lot of people including myself prefer to use. Customer care to me is not all about numbers and statistics, its truly caring about your customers and what they want. So I guess when you say “Customer Care ” its nothing more than lip service and means nothing to your CEO or your Co chairman. You have remove 5 items and have stocked them any more so not I go to Wal-Marts to get the Items but I guess that is perfectly fine with you. The latest item is Parkay margarine. You are loosing customers fast I guess that is fine with you. Customer Care is lipservice only

I am a Meijer employee and I can easily say that this is one of the worst jobs I’ve ever had. My manager and supervisors skip my breaks, I reported them to the department of labor and as retaliation they cut my hours so I only 11.5 hours this week. Not only that but they have also failed to pay me my full amount on several occasions. I am quitting when summer is over but Meijer is severely corrupt. And I still have yet to receive the missing from my paystubs.

I have been receiving acts of retailiation ever since I reported my team lead for breaking the open door policy by yelling and verbally attacking another co-worker, in my presence, after he reported her on non-compliance. The kicker is she never received any type of reprecussions for those. I just quit because I couldn’t take it anymore. There was proof that she may have given a favorite team member of hers her password and id to get into our PS8’s that control our pay and hours, and yet there was never an investigation on it. This place is crooked. I will never work for Evansville Meijer again. Maybe other stores are different, but the management here does not care about our well being at all.

In Big Rapids, No. I have been overcharged by $18 for two items from the listed price were the items were located in the same day. I wonder how many other people were overcharged and never looked at there receipt to see if they got ripped off. The shame is, this seems to happen all the time. I just make sure to watch as the items are getting rang up, but I shouldn’t have to. It is called stealing, or better word for it, retail fraud. Customers beware. We also took pictures of the price tag in the products in question. We even told the associate Cassie, to move or put the correct price tag by the items if it is incorrect so others don’t get the wrong impression that they are buying an item that is mis-priced. Cassie didn’t move the price tag as of the time we were still in the store, so the next person is set up. P. S. If you are overcharged from the listed price tag, don’t forget to ask for the $5 bounty

I have shopped Meijer since a child in Cedar Springs. I worked at Meijer in the late 60’s. I recently have had many disappointments with Meijer. The first meat department would not net a roast for me. They said not allowed. Well I drove up the road got a netted roast and have not bought a ounce of meat from Meijer since. A few weeks ago I had to lift the dog food up so cashier could scan. She did not want to lift dog food, well she is younger than my 40 year old children. Now all my pet products are delivered to front door with no shipping fees. Two weeks later it took me longer to wait in line and check out than to buy groceries. Now all groceries are delivered to my front door except produce, breads and dairy; also no shipping fees. Today went to get my RX said it would be ready at 9 in the morning at 10 not ready drove back again a unnecessary trip. I have also had overrings must watch everything. End result is a negative experience for me my shopping bill was usually around $170.00 a week and this was after I stopped buying meat now my bill is around $70.00 a week. There is no impulse buying on my part a negative for Meijer. Two negatives do not equal anything positive.

I have been using the Meijer drugstore web application for a number of years, I also manage the prescriptions for my 91 year old Mother who is blind. I used my email address for both myself and my Mother until Meijer recently changed their web based application. Now I can no longer access my prescription account because the application would not allow me to log in using my email account since it was the same as my Mother’s. I contacted drugstore Tech Support and Michael, a Tech Support person responded and told me and told me I could no longer use my email address to manage my prescription account and my Mother’s. Meijer made the decision to change the software no means a parent can no longer manage the prescriptions for their children. Each child will have to have a unique email address separate from the parent. This does not make sense, or convenient or efficient for Meijer customers.

I have worked at the Massillon Ohio warehouse for a few months. It is apparent as to why they plan to shut it down. Management is hardly involved other than basic operations. They ignore any issues that require attention. They employees blatantly ignore direction and do whatever they want up to and including disruption of work days. They throw pallets, wood and purposely damage the property. They bully other employees. Three out of six people on the line only will do certain jobs while harassing those that do work. And the manager ignores everything. It is no wonder that this is a money pit costing the company more than it being profitable. I wish I could stand by a line for 5 to 8 hours and do nothing for $12 an hour.

I hired in at Meijer in1999, I worked until several things caused me to need a Mental Health Disability in 2008. I have been off since and received disability until just recently. I have provided all doXXXXents needed for disability. My last review put my approval date through June 2017. I received a check in March and a notice 2 weeks later my leave would not be honored. I understand they have guidelines that are now being followed; however I should have been paid through current approval date. Meijer refuses to budge and this has left me in a real financial bind. I have ALWAYS been loyal to Meijer and continue to be, but honestly I am ashamed to be part of a company that treats the mentally/emotionally/medically this way.

I live in Traverse City and recently visited the Acme store on Saturday April 22nd. The staff were amazing , attentive, friendly and consistently helpful. It was so remarkable that my husband and I both commented on it. There is clearly a culture of service and friendliness there. The next day I had occasion to stop in the Traverse City US 31 Meijer and the contrast was striking, avoidant and unhappy employees , some non helpful and the store was not nearly as clean. I shop there several times a week since I live on the west side of TC and rarely get to Acme. I will be making an effort to do so and switch to Luckey’s which is just down the road from the US 31 store .

Dear Sirs:
I have been a Meijer drugstore customer for many years. I have always acXXXXulated Mperks drugstore rewards and used them for the good savings they offer. I have valued Meijer for providing this program and have felt that Meijer really earned my business by putting the customer first.
Today, I went to redeem my acXXXXulated drugstore rewards, after several months of not accessing the website, and found I needed to set a new password and accept new terms and conditions. No problem.
But then – I found that at least 9 prescriptions (those I’ve filled since 1/1/17) have not been counted towards my rewards. I called customer service – twice – to sort this out and learned that, at an unknown date, Mperks terms and conditions were updated and I was required to accept the new terms and conditions. Until doing so, my Mperks drugstore Rewards acXXXXulation was discontinued. So these 9+ prescriptions went into a black hole of irredeemability due to a change that Meijer made.
While I understand that terms and conditions may sometimes change (I was told it was due to “federal regulations”), I am shocked at the failure of Meijer to effectively communicate the need to update my acceptance of the terms and conditions or else lose my rewards. The customer service rep “thought” an email had been sent and said it was clear, when you went to the website, as I did today, that the update was required.
Yet for a user like me who acXXXXulates prescriptions and redeems points in quantity, who doesn’t have time or inclination to access the website regularly, how was I to know about the need to make this update? The email? Mperks sends emails on a near daily basis and I have them diverted to my spam folder, as I’m sure many customers do. Moreover, so many companies make vague updates to “terms and conditions”, I would likely not have thought much of an email regarding this change.
Why was it not proactively communicated to me by Meijer that I needed to update my acceptance of the terms and conditions to continue acXXXXulating Mperks drugstore Rewards? For instance, this could have been communicated to me at the drugstore counter, by drugstore staff. Better yet – you should have allowed me the opportunity to accept the new terms and conditions AT the drugstore checkout register to guarantee continuity of my drugstore rewards acXXXXulation.
I have always felt a sense of loyalty to Meijer and its drugstore. I have felt that Meijer was a loyal merchant to me, the customer, in that it provided good savings and rewards for my purchases, particularly at the drugstore. When your prescription drug bill exceeds $1500 per month, including $400+ out of my own pocket, any bit of a break such as that offered by the Mperks drugstore rewards program is appreciated.
In this instance, I feel betrayed by Meijer. I feel disheartened by the fact that Meijer failed to effectively inform me of an important change to a program that has benefited me. I see this failure as being due to incompetence on the part of Meijer executives, or a sinister attempt to let my rewards lapse and essentially screw me out of something I thought was acXXXXulating as it always had been for me. Incompetence or sinister manipulation. Neither one is very complimentary in regard to Meijer management and practices.
I will be taking my $1500 monthly drugstore bill to another drugstore going forward, unless you can make this right somehow. As I said – I have at least 9 prescriptions since 1/1/17 that have not been counted, and I would expect to receive savings commensurate to the rewards associated with that number of prescriptions. It is not a significant amount of savings, but the principal – the failure of Meijer to communicate a change to me, the resulting “lapse” in my rewards acXXXXulation and loss of my due savings, the frustration this has caused – THAT is the problem. It’s the principle.

I am just wondering if anyone in the corporate offices have ever met Fred Meijer. I was lucky enough to meet and talk with him twice. He had such vision….he LOVED customers. They came first… I believe that Fred would be appalled at what his stores have become.
Shop early in the day = empty shelves. Shop middle of the day = empty shelves. Shop late in the day = empty shelves. And it doesn’t matter what day of the week….good luck with finding products ESPECIALLY on sale items.
After you’ve wasted time shopping then you can stand in line for 40 minutes to get checked out. The lines in our store often reach the clothing departments with no one attempting to open more lanes.
I have worked in store 25 and store 52. If our service directors saw a line that looked like it was growing a new lane would open. Baggers and cashiers were helpful not non existent and now stressed and unfriendly. But then that was BEFORE I had to ring up my own groceries.
I read that Meijer has had a hard time of things going against Walmart. Perhaps if Hank Meijer and family go back to being more like Fred they would retain happy customers. I don’t see too many happy folks here in TC… We have to find and pull stock from U- bolts then stand in line 40 minutes to ring up own orders…. I already have a job and feel that Meijer should PAY me for all the work I do just to get groceries. I can go across the street to a LOCALLY owned Spartan store and find the groceries I need no matter the time of day…have them rung up by a helpful happy cashier and then…pull up to the store and a bagger puts them in my car!!! Happy bagger. Happy shopper.
Fred Meijer was a nice man….his kids …not so much. Can you say GREEDY?

The warren mound store is atrocious, I worked there for 4 yrs when they first opened and I only live a mile away from the location. I chose to make my store the Madison heights location because the staff are friendly, the products are fresh and stocked and the wait time at checkout is fast. What happened to the mound store off 12 mile? The staff is looking at cell phones while working, The floors are dirty and the produce stock is undesirable and unwell kept, such as rotten and moldy and unstocked, I have found outdated items, the staff is not kept neatly anymore shirts hanging out and looking un- admiring. This is not a store I want to shop at and it is so close to my home. It’s a shame meijer has grown into a box store with so many properties that they can’t keep an eye on them all to satisfy the customers. Kudos to Madison Heights store #222 they have what it takes to keep me shopping there.

I was only employed with Meijer store#118 Hamilton Rd for 2weeks. The 3rd shift Manger was very rude and disrespectful. While in my training days, she told me that I needed to pick up my pace. This was my second week there. Then I verbally told them that I needed to be off at 5:30am instead of 6am so that I can be with my new born so that my wife can go to work, meijer told unemployment that I left the job without there permission. I was clocking out at 5:30am from day one. Also they claim that I was late. I feel that the 3rd shift stocking mangaer was not fair and dislike me as a person. There is no way that I was discharge within 2 weeks and without no verbal concerns about my job performance or write ups.
My wife talk to the store Director and was told since I wasn’t employed there long enough to be in the union they couldn’t do nothing about it and could be let go under the mangers discretion if they feel that my work wasn’t satisfied is their eyes.

I’ve worked at Meijer for a short time, I love it as far as my shift time, the customers, and such. But what I’ve found is that some of the employees are exceptionally rude and cliquish. They also have no sense of sense of wh HIIPA is. They will berate you in front of other employees, condescend to you, and make you feel as the if you are a burden When you are training and trying to get info you need to do your job effectively. Only people who are favored get the amount of hours they want or need, and it doesn’t matter if you are there for a month or a year or a decade. They give you a list of rules you have to follow at orientation, but only a select few have to follow them. For the rest, it is “do as you will” and no one cares. Meijer also talks about “open door policy”, but I feel as if you complain or have a issue, talking about it will only lead to retaliation and more trouble.

Be careful if you make a mistake and ask for training as a team leader End result will be:
1.) Retaliation from Store Director
2) Termination for negligence No rehire

My daughter called me this morning at 4 am crying and quit after working over a year at Meijers in Alpena, Mi.in bakery Has had enough of the hazing and threats just like the one by the cake decorator on Feb 17th., 2017 saying ” I will cut you” tonight my daughter found a flyer on her trays she uses at night with negative words that clearly was for her. She took a picture of it and talked to manager and has had enough . my daughter is a hard worker and perfectionist and did her work great and everything tasted wonderful and she took pride in her donut displays. But the hazing and threats went on for the past 6 months. This is wrong .

HA. trying working for them, especially 173. mangers play favorites, talk down to you, treat you like crap. they dont care about you or anything you need. just that they get done what they need done and to hell with you.
seniority, dont mean anything. the union and most of the stewards, are all in one band together. secretly planning and finding the best ways to screw someone over or get what they need. speaking from a former steward themselves. this place needs a MAJOR overhaul of management and a nice little visit from corporate to have a sit down with everyone and rid of these awful managers so they can run a decent store and not a dictatorship.
Sierra says
so does #287. When a co-worker asked about an investigation pertaining to a team leader verbally attacking him for reporting her for non-compliance, he was told if he wants to get the management position he’s been working for then he should just drop it.

Has it become Meijer policy to reduce the full checkout lanes to two (and later ONE) and have a dozen plus self check lanes open??
Is this to force us to use them ?? I had 96 items in my cart and I spent nearly $300. The cashiers were not the problem. This idiotic idea of someone in management caused a whole bunch of Meijer customers a miserable experience. This was at the Meijer store in Roseville Michigan, #63 I believe. I have shopped there for many years.
I sure hope this idea gets tossed out because otherwise I will be going somewhere else.
Aleta Hughes says
I was at the Ypsilanti Michigan Meijers on Sunday January 22 at 8:15 pm to check out only one lane was open other than 6 self check outs. The front end of the store was extremely busy. You got it, I am leaving my cart and driving to Walmart in Saline, NEVER to return to Meijer which is a half mile from home.

Last night I went to your Southgate Michigan location. I normally shop at your Taylor, Flat Rock, or Woodhaven locations but my mother-in-law lives across from the Southgate one and getting her to another location has been inconvenient. I submitted this to there location page as well. This is what happened and what I submitted to them:
I have been taking my handicapped mother-in-law shopping there for years. There is an elderly female door greeter who is regularly rude. Last night, however, was it for me. My mother-in-law requires a scooter. She has one leg and walk (barely) on crutches. We walked in to a line of scooters parked. Most had signs saying Out of Order or Charging. My mother-in-law asked the elderly woman door greeter if there was an available scooter. She responded with a rude, “I don’t know.” I went to set my one year old son in a cart while my husband parked the car. Then, as we are leaving, an entire gallon of milk had dropped and broken all over, blocking the two exit doors. There was a younger girl there who had a cleaning cart. I asked her to open the other doors (entrance doors) so I could get out(I was carrying my son by that time) and pushing a cart. My mother-in-law was going to turn in the scooter. The girl was getting the door open for me but the cleaning cart was in the way. The elderly woman door greeter came out and told mr that I couldn’t go that way. I told her that I did not want to walk through the spilled milk and that my mother-in- law couldn’t walk through it. Her response, “Well, you can’t go out that way. It’s the wrong way.” She made me walk through all that spilled milk while holding my baby!!!!! Then, when my mother-in-law saw this, she came out still in the scooter because she couldn’t walk through that- she would have fallen for sure, that lady had the audacity to tell my mother-in-law that she couldn’t take it out of the store!
You ought to be ashamed of your customer service at this location. I’ve seen numerous horrible ratings based on customer service at this location so it’s pretty clear to me that you will continue to do nothing. Had your greeters actions caused me to fall while holding my baby or for my mother-in- law to fall, I would be calling a lawyer this morning instead of posting this review and contacting your corporate office!
The safety of customers is more important than them going out the wrong door!!!!!

I live in Cincinnati and shop at Meijers at Stone Creek. I fell in love with Meijers when our daughter was attending Wright a state University in Dayton, Ohio.
I was so happy when you came to Cincinnati. This last year this store has constantly gone down hill. The service is crazy, and mostly nonexistent. Today five (5) days before Christmas, there was one (1) lane open. The self service isles were open but I am 74 and don’t care to bag over $200 worth of groceries. There are plenty of major stores in Cincinnati, Kroger to name one. I would think you would want my business but today I could only compare this store to WalMart, who I can’t stand. I hope to hear things will be improving.
Thank you,

See below for the complaint I filed at Meijer.com. They cordially sent me an impersonal automated response and offered no resolution to my issue.
“Seasonal section, ‘Prank Gift Box: Nap Sack’
I get the joke, but the fact that you have a photo of something that looks like a faceless hijab & a “complimentary” photo of someone wearing it in a church, the context is extremely offensive and prejudice towards the Muslim religion. If you had “prank box” containing some rusty nails to crucify someone on a cross, your target audience would be appalled, but since the Muslim faith is a minority in this country no one thinks anything of this extremely offensive display.
I strongly suggest you immediately remove this product or change the images so it’s not so obviously prejudice.
PS – I worked at Meijer branch 229 for 3 long years I’ll never get back, and the management is run by right-winged slave drivers.”

Dear Mr. Meijer,
I would like to preface my comments by saying that your Meijer store at my location has always been an excellent place to shop. My comment is about the check-out displays of magazines this past week. The headlines of the National Enquirer are often full of blatant falsehoods, but the edition this week is promoting racism and hate, and encouraging more of the dangerous thinking and behavior that we have seen throughout these past months. It references in bold print “Muslim Spies”,Why we need water boarding and torture and “outing” traitors. If you have not seen it, please look at it. In the interest of easing public tensions and not insulting a large number of your shoppers, such as myself, I would like to request that you pull these publications from your main checkout area. As “fake news” has also been in the headlines, responsible corporations may want to examine the propaganda that they allow to be displayed in prominent store positions. I would love to hear your thoughts on this, if you have a moment to comment.
Holly Bernard says
Thank you! I have no tolerance for prejudice, racism, and stereotypes. This must be stopped. Products promoting prejudice should be from your shelves, Meijer, if you don’t want to lose business.

I am so angry for the treatment my daughter has received from the managers at the Evansville Indiana store. She has been there since before they opened. She help set the store up. She has moved up in her department and works her butt off, but doesn’t get the money for all her hard work. They are more than happy with her work, as her department tops their sales constantly, but she hasn’t received her raises or bonuses like the employees under her. They get 600 to 800 dollars and she gets nothing. They make 1 dollar less than her an hour and she gets all the aggravation and nothing to show for it. She was hoping to use the bonus for her kids for Christmas and then found out she doesn’t get one. Even WALMART treats their employees better. I hope she leaves this money grubbing company that has lied to her from day one. I will never shop here again!

I just left this store. Management there is shady. I will never work for them again. The gas station team leader shows favoritism towards a team member there who she used to manage at another store. She verbally attacked another co-worker for reporting her for non-compliance, and she is still working there. We were told our reports were sent to the HR department, but nothing had been done since.

Had to walk out with others because of poor service checking out. The store is located in Springfield Oh. I contacted the manger there by the name of Ed. He was pleasant enough but of no help at all addressing the concern about not enough registers open. And people simply left their carts and walked out because of long wait times, it was just incredible. My wife told me that this store is closing. And I would say if they aren’t, they will be given what I and others experienced Sunday night! Simply to many places to shop and spend your money to put up with such a lack of appreciation! The Swartz Creek Michigan store has switched from rainbow trout farm raised in Canada to rainbow trout farm raised in Columbia. This is unacceptable to me. The Hill Road store near Grand Blanc still has a sign up “farm raised in Canada”. Can I rely on that? Is there some necessity to switch to the inferior Columbian product? Any chance the Swartz Creek store will go back to Canadian?

Just recently purchased Meijer brand breakfast sausages (original flavor). They were the most horrible tasting sausages!!! Don’t know what your chef’s special recipe is, but (s)he should throw it away.
Also, I hate that you are placing your private label canned goods as well as other products instead of national brands. There is a definite differece in quality. National brands are far superior. With increased difficulty finding my favorite national brands At Meijer, I will look for somewhere else to shop.

In June I move one city over and was excited that once again I have a Meijer less than a mile from my house. I just love mperks and the drugstore. It didn’t take me long to see that not all Meijer stores are the same.
Last night I went shopping, waiting for my turn in the deli on the hot food side, only to have the worker walk away after helping the gentleman before me. Then started talking to a co-worker totally ignoring me. There were 4 deli workers and I waited almost 10 minutes with no one else being waited on before someone came over. “Ashley” came and as she chomped her gum with her mouth open, I asked her if they had any specials on the chicken. She said she didn’t know but she could ask. Walked to the 2 women talking (one of which was the woman who walked away from me in the first place) and asked if anything was on sale, she said I dont think so. Everything is full price, do you want anything? I asked in a bucket do you have to get legs, her answer YUP.
I shopped some more and came back to the deli and got chicken. Then I walked to the deli meat and cheese and you got it, Gum chopping Ashley asked if I wanted anything. I order 1/2 lb of the baby swiss on sale. 2 minutes later, the one woman asked her if she had her break yet, she said no. She said I got your customer, and without a glance in my direction Ashley left. The young man came in and said he would get my order, what did I want? 10 full minutes later (not exaggerating) he brought over a pound of cheese, I let him know I only wanted 1/2 a pound, he took off a third of a pound and at that point I will admit, I was done and said thats fine.
As I walked to the drugstore to get my medicine, there was a young man who I didn’t get his name leaning on the stand by the u scan, I asked him if the store carried ice, he goes “ya, its over there”. My response, over there where? He said by the service deck, there was a place.
I am sickened that this is how Meijer now treats its guests. Walmart is closer to my house, but I really wanted to stay at Meijer because the Northville (54) store employees are always pleasant and helpful.. So is Westland (68) but then sadly the only people who are nice and helpful at good old 188 is the awesome drugstore team.
Feeling perplexed, switch to a different store chain? Or drive farther from my house to get good service?

I spend a LOT of money at the MARYSVILLE, MI, Meijer. In fact, living in a small town, Meijer is the only big box store we have. Usually, after shopping, I go to the customer service desk to get my lottery. On this particular day, it was about 30 minutes before the lottery drawing and only one person ahead of me at the counter returning an item. I had just finished shopping and had some frozen items in my cart that needed to be taken home and put away – but with only one other person in line, this shouldn’t take long. Or so I thought!
The other customer completed her return and proceeded tip continue talking to the Meijer employee behind the desk as if they were acquainted for the next 20 minutes. All the while, the time limit for that evenings lottery had expired and the line behind me had built up to about 8 more people who needed help.
Off to the side were three more employees huddled together talking amongst themselves, doing nothing and ignoring the ever expanding line of customers. The customer in front of me and your employee continue carrying on their conversation, the customer turns to me and smiles, noticing my completed lottery slip she wonders out loud what is playing on lottery that evening.
I was livid! I threw my slip down on the counter and walked out of the store.
The next day I went BACK to Meijer (TOLD you I’m there frequently!) to purchase items I’d forgotten. As I’m in line, I notice the same employee behind the customer service desk as was there the previous evening. She’s staring at me, while huddled with several other employees, obviously telling them about my outburst from the evening before. I could tell because the moment I made eye contact, she stopped pointing at me and all of the employees dropped their eyes as if to pretend they weren’t looking at me.
Now, because she was not doing her job and moving the customers along, or asking her co-workers for help when she should have, I’M the one who is the bad guy and being treated UNFAIRLY by your employees?
This is the only place in town to shop, and I’ll have to deal with attitude every time I go in there. All of the other employees are friendly and I’ve never had a problem any other time, but this catty chatty employee needs a job in the back where she doesn’t deal with the public, and either I need you to give me a good reason to come back, or I’ll drive all the way to Port Huron and go to Wal-Mart instead of dealing with this attitude again!

Hello again. I am the same person that wrote the post about being a vendor/merchandiser. funny thing happened when I complained to the company that I work for about not getting the product needed to fill the shelves at the Meijer store that I service. I actually work for them through a temp staffing service that pretty much is just a front for them not having to hire anyone themselves. Anyways, the told my HR person at the temp service who then called me and gave me a verbal warning. So I actually try and do my job and get better service for Meijer customers and I am the one getting in trouble. I already got my scheduled changed to worse hours because of Meijer and now I am getting told to shut up and not complain by the HR a-hole who didn’t even ask what I complained about. Right about now, I hope you both/ all three go out of business.

As someone that works as a Vendor/Merchandiser within Meijer and several other stores, I just want to inform all about a certain situation. If the shelves are low on product for the company that I work for, or any other, you can go to the back room and look to see if the product is there. If it is just one product, then someone most likely bought out the shelf and that is no one’s fault. If it is several products then there are some possibilities as to where the blame lies.
1. If the products are in the back and someone was supposedly already there to work them then it is their fault.
2. If the product is not in the back, then it is the fault of either the person writing the orders or the the fault of someone in the supply chain.
Myself, nor other merchandisers/vendors can stock something that isn’t there.
If the shelves are not faced at all and still a mess after someone was supposed to be there to work product and face, then that person needs to be replaced as it is just laziness on their part. However, if it is a store with a lot of college students, high school students or trouble makers then they may have done it just to be a**holes.
Product out of place happens all the time as most people are just too lazy to put it back where they got it from. That is a result of bad parenting so take it out on them and give the lazy ones the paddling they should have gotten at home when they were young.
Please take the time to get to the root of the problem and take the appropriate actions against the appropriate people.

On July 8th 2016, I went to the Meijers store on Warren avenue in Westland. I visit this store quite frequently and have never had any issues. On this same day, I bought a straightener/flat iron for my daughter for her birthday. Unfortunately she didn’t need/like it. It hadn’t been open, I still had the receipt and went to the store today,(7/10/2016) to return it. The service desk looked busy, so I decided to walk around the store, until the line at the service desk got shorter. The store is little more than a block away, I was walking my little 16 month old granddaughter in her stroller. The straightener ( the one that I was returning) was in a little storage area under her stroller and the receipt was in my pocket. After realizing that the line at the service desk was going to take too much time, I decided to leave and come back the next day. On my way out, the Loss Prevention people stopped me at the door and said something about seeing me pick up a straighter and put it in the stroller. I explained that the straighter was mine and that I was coming to the store to return it. They took me into a back room and looked through my purse, stroller, wallet. I told them that I wanted to see the evidence of me stealing this. I wanted to see the store camera. They said something about calling the police and me getting arrested. I had a baby with me.They told me to give them the straightener and they’d let me go. The straightener is/was my property! I showed them the receipt and they explained that I could take it up with the police and get arrested. I didn’t do anything!! They took my property. Who is the one stealing now?! When I first went into the store, I remember saying something to the greeter, about having to return my daughter’s curling iron. She is very nice and we laughed about it. I did not steal the straightener!!. I was returning it. It was at the bottom of my stroller when I walked in the door.. The camera will show this!! I just want to see this evidence against me with out being threatened to be arrested!! I called the police and told them the situation. They advised me to talk to the store director and I did. She took my name and number, but I haven’t heard from her. I am so upset about this. I had thought more of the store. This corporation. It’s one of Michigan’s biggest employers. I’ve shopped the store for years. How could this have happened?

As a previous customer service manager I always take time to praise good work and hardly ever do I complain. I understand people are human but you need to take a closer look at your Meijer drugstore in Milford, Ohio. First of all if someone has a bad experience they are likely to tell others.. I have given this drugstore multiple chances before switching to Walgreens. Issue #1 their drive through is hardly ever open. Today I went to pick up a prescription for my dog who just had surgery. I was told I could not pick up through the window, only drop off. Frustrated (as this is the third incident where I have been told their drive through was closed) I told them I would send my daughter in for the prescription since my dog was just out of surgery. They did give the RX to my daughter but not until they counseled her on how if “I could walk” I should come in and get it myself. Ok lets drag a 2 kids, 1 a toddler and a very ill stiched up, post-op dog (not a service dog) into meijer. I would never leave my dog alone in a car in 90 degree heat, ESPECIALLY straight out of surgery. That comment to my child was completely unnecessary. I feel bad for the elderly people filling their RX’s there. Issue # 2… after a dr’s visit the doc typically faxes our prescriptions in. I have been told on MORE than one occassion, it wasn’t there and I needed to call myself. When I worked at a drugstore, we communicated with a pt’s doctor instead of making them a middle man. That is bad customer service and bad business. Which is why a family of 4 with monthly prescriptions has switched to a different drugstore..

After writing yesterday, I would like to add that the worst part of the entire incident was the cashier throwing the water into our cart causing the cart to hit my 6 year old granddaughter who then broke into tears. The rudeness and hostility to my daughter and me was bad enough, but harming my granddaughter is inexcusable. If I, as a nurse, had mistreated a patient this way, I would have been fired. I can only hope the same for Rose B. My granddaughter does have a bruise from the cart striking her and will be seen by her doctor. I will proceed from there. I do hope to hear from management soon.

I have been a customer at the Michigan City Meijer since it opened and have never made a complaint. But today my family and I were treated so rudely I will never return to that store. The cashier who was checking us out, became hostile because my daughter had put 2 cases of Coke and a case of water on the conveyor belt. The cashier yelled because she didn’t want “that heavy stuff” on the belt where she might have to pick it up. my daughter was trying to be helpful and planned on returning the items to the cart herself once they had been scanned. The cashier, Rose B. came running down the aisle at us, scanned the water, picked it up and threw it in the bottom of the cart yelling “I’m 60 not 20.” when the water hit the cart the cart hit my 6 year old granddaughter causing her to break into tears.. She now has a large bruise where the cart hit her. We will be seeing her doctor tomorrow. Rose B. then scanned the 2 cases of pop and threw them into the cart. This women was rude and hostile and unhinged.I spoke with the manager but I doubt if that will do any good. I was a nurse for 35 years and would have been fired if I had treated a client so poorly. It was bad enough being rude to my daughter and me, but injuring my granddaughter will not be tolerated. I definitely want to hear back from management.

I then went out to the counter very upset & scared A girl went in the back & brought out handy wipes which had written on the bottle SYSAL I told her I could not put that on my body They took my name & phone number I then started for the hospital a nervous wreck the highway has construction what a mess. When I got to the department the ladies said I needed to leave because of the gas there could be afire. So I left for home a nervous wreck. I got home after 40 miles. The next morning a lady called & said sorry it was not their fault things happen Since then it has been a nightmare I went to dr. & he said my eyes were burnt & I needed to go to eye dr. right then. They called & I got right in . I was given a RX for my eyes. Had to go back to both places again Had to pay for all of this. The week of 6/7/16 I was told my tear ducks where gone. I sent all of the reports to MDEIJERS have not heard again. They have been giving me the run around with This. They called Up & I said to the lady that was their property & if someone had come to my house & got hurt I would be responsible. They better take down their sign if they thought they were not at fault. Have not got any answer from them might have to get HELP! I don’t think much of MEIJERS now. They want customers but if something would happen at their store you might not get help! I really want shorts to be back in the uniform, I know that a couple people messed it up because they’d wear them at all times of the year but in the summer I am a pale girl, I do not handle the heat well and neither do a few of my other coworkers. It is extremely hot in the store and wearing pants and a heavy shirt does not help. One of my coworkers actually pukes because it is so hot, I think that if we were allowed to wear shorts it would drastically help. You could even set a time frame only wearing them between like May-August and I would even be cool with that, please reconsider adding shorts to the uniform. I get highly nauseous and sick and feel like I am going to pass out and so do a couple of my coworkers, even if they are the ugliest shorts in the world I would rather wear them then constantly wearing pants. I know that I live in Michigan and some of our summers are not that hot but when you are constantly busy and trying to take care of 4+ people in your line it gets way to hot to not be wearing shorts. Please, please reconsider adding shorts to the uniform.

Being with meijers for over 8years I feel that need to send this email. I know that they have been hiring a lot of x Walmart managers ,but since they have come in they are not running up too meijers standards, now this might be the plan, I do not know so l wanted to let you know. Our back room is never clean up be fore the next truck, they never have enough workers on the floor every day to keep the store klept ou or help the customers the way it should be down,it seems that meijer has chane the way Fred meijer wanted it to be. Thank you

I worked at meijer for almost two years, I loved my job and I was a very good worker. I get called in to security and he was questioning me about ONE coupon, he asked where I got my coupons from I told him I or one of my kids or a family member give it to me and he told me because I took one for a family that didn’t live in my house that i used a coupon that didn’t belong to me, I had no idea that was wrong so he suspended me and two weeks later, I was fired. I don’t think I should have been fired, you can’t go to anyone for help not your team leaders or the store director, ONE coupon should not cost you your job

We bought ribs at the miejer on 12 & mound in Michigan. They were the worst ribs I have ever purchased. They were tough and chewy. I’ve been making ribs for years and have never had a problem. This is the first time buying them from thinks store. I will never buy meat from there again.

I feel your people should be more like I was and very helpful and always trying to fix the problem. Instead of how things went down and now basically she wasted two hours for what

I think it is high time management at store 173 is looked at. Some, not all the managers are arrogant, selfish and only look out for themselves to make sure a job gets done and they look good. It isn’t enough you work 40-55 hours a week for them. 6 days a week. Give up all your free time and stay after. Or forced to stay even if you have other things to take care of. They more or less tell you too bad you need to stay here and get a job done. You can do all the work in the world plus half of someone else’s and what happens….. you need to do more. Also doesn’t help that we are beyond short handed and you hire no one and or people who will only work 2 or 3 days a week 4 hours a day.
Or how about if you ask something or need something, there isn’t time for that unless your job is done or unless the managers aren’t sitting around in an office laughing it up. Then only come around when something isn’t right and yell at you. Even if on the floor in front of customers. What kind of manager is that to do all this and expect people to want to work hard or harder when they are unappreciated. It isn’t fun anymore. The job feels like a death sentence half the time. Please, please look into this. You’re losing more people day by day because no one want to put up with it.

One of the worst jobs I’ve ever had. When I was a cashier they always made me stay late, even if I told them No, and it would be like 1-2 hours, not 15 minutes or anything.
One time I had to use the bathroom REALLY BADLY & they made me wait over an hour, had been waiting for my break for about 2 hours, and when they told me for the 5th time it was too busy for me to use the bathroom I turned off my light & told them I was taking a sick day, I couldn’t hold it any longer. The team leader finally came over to my register, turned my light back on, & had the audacity to tell me I had TWO MINUTES. I barely made it to the bathroom, & once inside I sat in the stall and cried.
When I worked in the Deli the team leader was NEVER there, then the crew would get yelled at by the store director if we did something wrong, and how the hell were we to know we were doing it wrong if the manager was never there to explain things to us?

I have never had so many problems before trying to get a photo book made. I have never made a photo book but heard they are nice so I First went to Meijers on Central Ave in Toledo, machines are all set up but the system is not user friendly, I had to try to get help several times and when finally done they told me it would be done early am next day.. Ok so I go back the next day to be told the machine is down and no clue when it would be fixed. I cancel my order since I work near a Meijers in Maumee, after work I go and again try to get help the employees have no clue I knew more than them at this point and hear her talking to another employee about she’s not sure what paper to use for a custom book.. Huh I just walk out drive and hour to Alexis Meijers in Toledo. Nathan was amazing helped me in detail add things to my book showed me styles he is great I felt so good finished my book and he said give him a little over an hour to make it perfect. I was excited figured I would have dinner, do a little shopping but then I get a call from Nathan the machine is broken and he’s not sure when it will be fixed. I know none of my experience is Nathan’s fault he was the only bright spot in this experience but now I still do not have my photo book that was to be a gift for my daughter. Very disappointed in Meijers and seriously thinking about trying Costco online. My feet hurt from walking to the back of three Meijers stores to have nothing to show for it. Moving my business elsewhere!

I have been a loyal and satisfied customer for years, however, recent corporate decisions have made shopping a dread. Advertised items are not on the shelves, but sometimes in back and not yet stocked. Shopping on the week-end usually means nothing you came for is available and you must get a rain check if you want to waste ,yet, more time. Yesterday, I was happy to see that a favorite wine was on sale. Though the shelf label was correct, another wine was stocked in its place and none of the four people in the area (store employees and wine vendors) were able to tell me if it was discontinued. It was not in a different area, as I wasted time attempting a search. There is no accountability, probably due to a broken organizational system. Employees are understaffed (as evidenced by inability to stock products already delivered), underpaid and disenchanted (as evidenced by poor retention and poor working conditions). Consumers are disrespected by lack of advertised items, decreasing brand selection, disregard for the time spent on futile searches and communications. I hope that your attempts at being competitive also impact the corporate hierarchy responsible for the poor decisions that will bring your business to its knees and threaten survival of my neighborhood store.

I think it’s time to say something positive about Meijer. I have shopped
at Meijer for fifty three years and at different locations and have never found the things
that are mentioned above. In spite of all the complaints I have found the prices have always been the lowest including Walmart. If it’s not n sale today wait for a few days and it
will go on sale. I have always found food to be fresh and never outdated. It makes me wonder how true all these comments are. In a court of law one would have to prove what they are saying or the issue would be thrown out! Meijer must be dong something right or they wouldn’t still be in business. Where is Kroger, D&W, Plumbs and all the rest who used to be here in Grand Rapids?
I have always found Meijer to be the cleanest store and most clerks to be nice. The one who aren’t will change very fast if reported. You know Meijer has to hire from the people who apply and the people who apply are the people in that area so it says something about
the people in the area so don’t blame Meijer.
Thank you,

Have you ever worked customer service? Do you know that the attitude of the crew reflects the attitude of management? I worked there for 3 years and have never been talked down to as much as when I was there, and that’s only when management decided to acknowledge me. They usually walk right past you and ignore you when you say hello. I had regular customers who would regularly notify the management on my initiative to go above and beyond my job requirements.
I’m a kind, intelligent, and patient person & I now work at a busy accounting firm and I work just as hard here as I did at Meijer. The difference is that the people I work for now thank me all the time, tell me I’m doing a good job, and above all, they respect me and treat me like a human being.

Went to Meijer Store # 178 in Aurora Illinois on 04/23/16. Promotion was on for horizon milk. If you two you get Horizon Macaroni cheese organic pack free. To my dismay when I did check the Macaroni it was expired on Apr-08. They had about 25 boxes of Macaroni sitting on the shelf -ALL EXPIRED. What a shame. Macaroni being a children’s food and they had no clue that they had 25 boxes sitting on the shelf expired 2 weeks ago. For sure I called the manager and he apologised and removed the boxes of the shelf. I will be doing random check again on the same product. They better be ready as this will be addressed to consumer affairs and eventually FDA now.

My sister, who had some, said she’d take it back. Instead, I’m going to recommend to various Meijer personnel that you further your efforts to provide better and healthier food. Have you got some kind of office that oversees progress toward providing healthier, more tasteful food?

Hi meijer, please tell me why i mailed into you doXXXXentation of me and my husbands hospital visit bills it has been 3 weeks and i have not herd anything back from anyone, in the begining i was mailed 2 release forms one for 100$, for my husband and 100$ for myself tiffany alaweia, i cqlled back bc that was only the money we had to pay downn , just to be seen by the clinic bc i have no insurance right now , my husband and i bought cooked chicken and it was bloody, my husband and i took it back they took pictures everything. To make sure it was bood sure enough it was , a couple days later well that was the start of visiting the urgent care every other day, my husband and i had gotten really sick. They wanted all the original doXXXXents and i sent them. Inwaited 2 weeks before i started calling and now commenting. Nsxt step is im going to get a lawyer and sue. I really dont want to do that, but first i will email pictures of the chicken and a short story to what happend and send it to all tv news channels. In detriot in the newspapers everything, first me and my husband get hush your mouth releases for 200$ not even 10% of what we have paid and now i refuse to sighn them all i want is the money we paid for the doctor visits. And the doctor stays, obviously they seen the bloody chicken and they know it was the truth or they wouldnt have given us the 200$ releases. I just want to know why you all just forget about people like me. I dont ask for much , i provide the proof. I call im polite and understanding. And didnt want to make meijer look bad over emails like this or bad moth them on facebook and newschannels. Or news letters, and i didnt jump sue happy. A lot of people in my shoes would have already been lawyerd up and ready for action, with all the proof i have ,how sick me and my husband got. All we asked for was to be respected and to get our money back, and now nobody is calling us back, and i paid to have that mail sent next day priority , there no way they didnt get it! Even if yall didnt get it. A simple call back to let us know that would be nice a simple answering of the phone something ,but instead i get a f*** you tiffany alaweia , i feel like they think im going to forget. But really be smart meijer. Just give me the releases for the 1500$ and pay us what you owe us. If someone dose not contact us with in 7 days i will be calling my lawyer like i said. Newspaper facebook twitter every news tv show to submit the pictures of the chicken, the releases and my story, so please save us both the trouble and time. And settle with me. All i want is most of the money we had to pay to be seen , that is it. That compared to a quadruple the amount of that i think is very fair,
All i want is what my husband and i already paid for thag is it. By the way whomever is reading this i dont mean to come off as a a**hole i just want the money back that i had to pay bc me and my husband got $ick off of your chicken.

My wife works for your White Lake, Mi store. I am very disappointed with how you run your store. She is a cashier and her direct supervisors Elaine and Kira are the worst people i have every met. They threaten and belittle several of the cashiers including my wife and have even yelled at my daughter and my wife for my daughter yelling hi mommy when we were shopping. I am very disappointed in the people you put in charge of your stores. My daughter is only 4 yrs old and they had the nerve to yell at her in front of several customers. Just so its public record if they harass her or my child one more time i will be calling my lawyer and taking you guys to court for harassment and verbal assault of a minor child. Also defamation of character for calling my wife a depressive person in front of customers and coworkers when she is the most up beat person i have ever met. So now you know if you ever read this that you have a lot of work to do in a short time because i will not stand for this harassment of my family any longer.

For shame, Meijer — for shame ! You “used” to have value pricing and one-stop shopping. Since Fred passed away, Hank and Doug Meijer are all about money. Theirs, that is. Prices are barely different from the competitors. Even worse, always but always long lines for cashier checkouts. No, not everyone wants to do self-checkout.
The final straw? Bringing in so much gluten-free products and eliminating products that people with lower incomes can afford (e.g. senior citizens, poor folks). Oh, and the clothing: I’d like to see Lena Meijer wear some of those women’s “fashions”. It’s all about the 18-30 year olds.
By the way, Meijer family: it is the CUSTOMER who buys your products that allows the Meijer Family to pay employees. As such, you – Meijer – need to instill that in your store employees.
BTW, you need to run a decent virus check on your computers. Supposedly, it is “da computer” that reorders merchandise. Well, your computers have a big problem.

My favorite place to shop for over 30 years JUST LOST MY BUSINESS and my $1000.00 per month. You can’t even get to anyone to talk to them about anything. I will not longer be shopping at your store for anything. The customer service by your pharmacist at the Walled Lake, Michigan store was horrible. Mr. Sava Dikantonis said, ” I don’t feel comfortable filling this prescription.” He said that I filled it four times in three months. Mr Dikantonis did not call my Doctor or ask even a single questions. I guess that my purse had been stolen along with my medication was not worth knowing. I dropped my prescription off on 10-21-2015 and was told that it needed to be ordered and I could pick it up on 12-01-2015.
It took four days for Mr. Dikantonis to call me and let me know that he did not feel comfortable filling the prescription. Mr. Dikantonis is the drugstore Manager. I had to pick up my prescription and only have a few days to get it filled before leaving on a trip. I will never fill prescriptions at this store or any other Meijer. I will not shop at this store or any other Meijer, for anything ever again. Mr. Dikantonis just cost you a customer of twenty five years. Mr. Dikantonis has ever right to show concern and do his job to the best of his ability. However, he did not bother to ask a single question of me or my doctor. He never stated what his concern was. He simply assumed the worse. My doctor doesn’t have any concerns with writing the prescription or me taking it. My doctor is the person that knows all my relevant health information, my medical problems, my lab work etc. My insurance provider doesn’t have a problem covering the cost of the medication. However, the pharmacist that doesn’t know anything and didn’t bother to follow up doesn’t feel comfortable. If he had talked with my doctor or me and made a similar decision I might be able to understand his point of view. I will be contacting my attorney to looking into any legal options that I can pursue regarding Mr. Dikantonis and the Meijer corporation.
Thank you

I used to buy a 2 medicine every month at Meijier Okemos. These medicines are my life saving medicine. My doctor asked me to take both the medicine daily. Both the medicine has same prescriptions expiry date. This month they were billing me only 1 medicine. They told other medicine has expired prescription date. How could be? I talked to the manager with no avail. I came home and checked both the prescriptions have same expiry date.
Last month they refilled me one medicine incorrectly. The doctor ordered 90 tablets but they refilled only 30 tablet. Worst service. Never play others life but Meijier Okemos doing it. .

For several months, the Meijer Store’s drugstore on Rt. 331, Mishawaka, IN has had difficulties filling prescriptions in a timely manner. The reason they gave was that their customer-numbers doubled. That was several months ago – and the prescriptions service STILL is not acceptable. Meijer drugstore claims they sent a fax to my cardiologist requesting a refill on a blood thinner. However, my cardiologist’s nurse claims she did not receive such a fax. This is not the first time this has happened and since my cardiologist’s office has never NOT called, I believe them – Meijer did not send a fax. After waiting a week, I called the doctor’s office and asked the nurse to call in the prescription, which she did on the 19th of Oct. No call from Meijer, but on the 21st of Oct., I went to drugstore anyway to get meds (by this time, I was out of meds). I was told that they were out of the meds but would have the script tomorrow (today) after 1pm. Rather than go, I called and guess what – no meds but I was told I could come in tomorrow and the script would be available.
I am moving my prescription requests to another drugstore and will no longer shop at Meijer. Either the drugstore is poorly run in that store or the store is not tended to by the corporate office.
Sue Stone says
I too have RX at this store and will be moving them. they are the slowest in filling your script and when it comes time to renew your script a simple phone call to me the patient would be nice. I feel I hired them to take care of my prescriptions and that informing the patient when an issue needs to be addressed would be part of their job. I worked at Meijer for 11 years and I know that things don’t run as you would like sometimes but this is a consistent way of doing business. I hope that somehow you can resolve this issue with their time management and their courtesy to their patients.

My local Meijer store on Mich. Ave. in Jackson, MI had a sale that stated “buy 3 fashion panties, get 2 free”. At checkout, 4 rang up regular price (clearance was excluded from sale), 1 rang up clearance (it did not have a clearance tag and looked EXACTLY like the others). I had already paid before I saw it so I went to customer service. Cassidy at customer service called the dept. worker who proceeded to say “They have to be of certain brands”. I told Cassidy I would be right back, I was going to bring the sign back to her. Took me a whole 20 seconds to get there and NO worker was anywhere around. Page(was her name) lied(lazy) when she told Cassidy that. Once Cassidy saw the sign, her only response was “well this panty rings up clearance, so if you want to go back and pick a different one” (so that I can go pick another unmarked “clearance” panty). Interesting that the “5th” rings up as one that is excluded. Wonder how many people that happens to? Wouldn’t happen to be a “glitch”(or program) to steal from innocent shoppers. I guess Meijer is now one of those stores that we tell people about when we talk of “buyer beware”. Of course this isn’t the only problem I’ve had with Meijer but it will be my LAST! When I called Corporate I was transferred to the 2nd shift Manager who is a joke. When Jim Montgomery ran that store, it was a pleasure to shop in, now it’s just another rundown, filthy, scamming business who can only hire the most desperate employees because the best employees have moved on. As anyone knows, a business climate is a trickle down business. If it’s happening at the bottom, It must have been started at the top. So I’m turning in my shopping resignation to anyone who probably doesn’t care there. It was only worth about $15,000.00 a year or so, give or take a $1,000.00. But that must be chump change to Hank after seeing all the complaints about Meijer I have seen, because those people, like myself, have decided we are done dealing with a company that doesn’t care about it’s customers or employee’s. Sure miss Fred. Good Riddance

Wow, the Northville Meijer really doesn’t want new business! I just spent 28 unsuccessful minutes trying to reach someone at this store. I was literally sitting in the parking lot with three little kids, and just wanted to ask someone if they carried a particular product, before dragginh my three kids (including a newborn), into the store to find out. I first sat on the one for 15 minutes at the general customer service line with one ever answering. I finally hung up and used the automated system to get in touch with the sporting good department, but after waiting 13 minutes there with absolutely no answer, I hung up. I then called Walmart and they answered in about 6 seconds, and I ended up driving across town to that store instead. Totally ridiculous! This is terrible business and definitely not reflective of a high quality, customer friendly store. Obviously Meijer is now no longer on my list of preferred shopping locations.

Bad to employees. I worked there from January until last Tuesday. Everything was fine until our team leader transfered and we got a new one named Jay.
First I had to take sundays off because I’m a recovering alcoholic (ada protected class meijers) and live in a recovery house which requires a group on Sunday and other house obligations that must be done on that day.
“No problem.” Sayeth the team lead.
Then my hours got cut.
Called corporate got a reference number ironically that can’t be found now….also talked to the regional hr that defended the shenanigans.
Then conviently I’m constantly “late from breaks”
Then came the day I bent over to scan water under a cart…came up and banged my head on the bag carosel. I went home early from being dizzy….got penalized for that…
Gets better….one month and three ‘late breaks’ later….called into the office. Lol…paper work for banging my head….oh and as I’m walking out of the office…he’s checking off ‘unsafe practices’.
The the VERY NEXT DAY, ironically I’m on a cash audit where they monitor my drawer. Which doesn’t bother me…lol…had someone not been on that drawer since six a.m. and I started at noon.
With all this nonsense, I quit. I had finally had it. I called our regional hr …Tracy Pruitt about the issues ( which had been discussed weeks ago as well) and her ” big issue is I walked off the job”.
Unbelievable.
And to think meijers is anti union. Small wonder.
It’s really a paradox because I loved the customers, but all the managers of the Elgin,il store leave me repulsed. I’m no idiot, I ran my own business for ten years which sold heavy…. But I do know one thing….you can’t treat employees the way they do and expect them to stay. Period.
Horrible for the customers…. Even worse for the employee….

My experience about complaint resembles the experience Brittany had. I bought Meijer Brand LED bulbs from Meijer store #34 in Royal Oak, MI. The bulbs regular price is $5.99 each but in the store where they keep these bulbs, there is a yellow sticker for $2.99 each (from 8/24/2015) to 10/18/2015. The scanner rings at $5.99 and when I brought that to customer service rep at the store, she told me that someone must have put the sticker by mistake. But, in fact, most of the meijer stores in my area has the same sticker showing $2.99 price. I asked for scanner reward, but she refused stating that the sticker was there by mistake and that is not true. She did give me the difference back. MI scanner law clearly states that I am eligible for the scanner reward. So, I filed the complaint at Meijer web-site and just like other complaints it is being ignored. No one has even bothered to contact. This is really wrong that Meijer is showing one price where the product is located and charging customers a higher price.
When will they own up and cleanup their act?
Brittany Funk says
First, I must say that I did come to this site to voice a complaint but after seeing where all of these complaints were noted, I find it disheartening to not see any responses by the corporate office. I’m really hoping that these are being responded to.
Second, I have already sent my complaint through the customer service route just to be ignored, hence the reason I’m here.
My complaint involves a store in Louisville, KY. I went to the store specifically for fruit. Wow, won’t make that mistake again. The majority of the containers in the strawberry display were full of mold. I’m not exagerrating. I even took a picture because of how insane this sounds that a store would have a display like this. While the bananas weren’t as bad as the strawberries, they weren’t great so needless to say, I left the store without buying fruit. Quite frankly, I have no desire to visit this store again in the near future.

In August I had to enroll in Medicare. I have not been given my drugstore M Perks since doing this. I called and the very rude person from Meijer told me that the Federal government won’t allow Meijer to give M Perks. That I might be reimbursed by Medicare for my scripts. They do not reimburse me. I now have to pay $195.00 for one script that I used to pay $40.00 for. I had Blue Cross when covered by my husband, and then I had to go to Blue Cross on Obama Care, which is a Federally subsidized program. I had no problem there. I don’t believe that I can’t get these M Perks on Medicare. I feel I am being lied to. I will not only be sending my scripts elsewhere, I will also do my weekly shopping elsewhere. Kathleen Hughes, Plainwell MI
Cynthia says
It is true that a lot of the perks you get on regular insurance you can not get on Medicare. Including coupons, read those closely you will find the federal government will not let you have or use many things now that you have Medicare. If you are low income you can apply for Extra Help from Social Security and they will help pay most of your Rx fees.

Went to my local Meijer store on Shaver Rd. in Portage ,Mi on Wednesday afternoon August 16th 2015 to pick up my husbands prescription. Signed and paid copay and took them home. Thank God my husband looked at them before taking his dailey pills for high blood presure which he has been taking for years. His medication has Always been filled by the Meijer drugstore. He looked at the pills they looked different and the name was different. He looked online only to find out he was given medication for MS. This is a Serious medication and if he had taken these drugs it could have had Major consequences! OMG! How could this Happen? Called the store and corp offices. No calls back! Maybe a lawyer would be affective. This is not an excusable mistake!
All of our family prescriptions have been pulled and sent elsewhere. Get your Act together Meijer before someone is really Hurt!

The bottle return machines were not working at the store on westnedge in portage. After the greeter said he could not find the pad to write me a receipt for the 20 or so glass containers, I asked for a manager. The bottle return clerk came and retrieve d the receipt pad from the same place the greeter used the phone. Then the “manager” came & as I was talking his phone rang and he asked if he could take the call and answered it! I said NO and walked away. I don’t think I could’ve felt more belittled at that point. To top things off there is a sign in the bottle room which says “use red phone for assistance” There is one long wire coming out of the wall with nothing connected to it! Customer service at Meijer = one sad joke! Why expect anything. The canned “did you find everything you needed” from the checkout clerks is insulting to them and me. I’ve said NO and their reaction has been nothing. If I ask for a rain check I have to wait for a manager and grilled aboutthe item, you would think I was asking for the keys to the safe!

I have been trying to get through the store a number of times by using one of the electric grocery carts. 75% of the time there isn’t enough juice in them to get past the frozen foods department, let alone get to the milk department at the back of the store. Sometimes I’ve had to call the store when the cart dies on me while shopping to ask that another be brought to me so I may proceed with my shopping. The times that I’ve voiced my complaints have fallen on deaf ears ( please, no offense to those who are truly deaf). One manager said that Meijer does not make enough money to provide working electric carts. Another person working the service desk said she would pass on my information and complaint to a manager as I told her the last time I was there that I was not going to shop there any longer and take my business elsewhere. Do the complaints even get to corporate, or do you really not care? What good is it having a super store when you are not handicapped friendly? That particular day I wasted 45 minutes trying four different electric carts not to mention the few that were marked as not in working order. How pathetic. Walmart has Electric carts that work. Kroger’s has electric carts that work. Two of the local health food stores have electric carts that work. Costco has electric carts that work. What is your problem? Could it be that upper management is getting paid far too much that you really don’t care anymore?
On a side note, your M perks is a joke. They rarely all work at check stand. The stores don’t carry the items you advertise. I’m exhausted that it has taken me more than an hour and a half’s time looking for all the items that you are placing in your ads that are nowhere in the store. I guess you’re just using those ads to coy us into coming into your store and hopes that we spend our money buying other crud. Well Yep, I’ll be buying other things, but it will be at all of your competitors markets.

So sorry this happened to you – you really went the mile and really tried to save money.
Having done this myself I can relate. What helped me was to try to get up earlier
(yes, even if this means going to sleep earlier or at least relaxing in bed earlier till
drowsy), and get to the stores earlier when the juice is charged up and ready to go
for the day and be among the first to get one! “The early bird gets the worm”.
Hope this will help you some. Sale items (I’m sure you know this too) run out some
times before the hard-working clerks can accept more deliveries or restock even tho some work late eves and early ams. I try to beat the rush by going first or second
day of sale, if I cannot find something, I ask when I get to the check out and they
send someone to get it for me or the clerk does if there is no line or she pages someone to help. I’ve only tried Meijers once, walking, but had a most pleasant
experience and really fresh looking food, and so many varieties to choose from.
I tend to go to smaller stores for quicker shopping trips for basics but specialty
stores when I want “extras” to brighten up our life.

Meijer at 26 Mile in Lenox Twp – the manager at this store should be fired. There were 14 people in line at the deli counter this morning – FOURTEEN. And one poor person – who is there every week on Sunday who does nothing but apologize to the folks waiting.
I’ve personally spoken to the manager there twice – and the answer I get is “it’s hard to find good deli help”. How about the other 10 employees that are walking around the meat counter or stocking produce? Or how about you Mr. Manager jumping in a situation like that? However, they are never around….NEVER.
This happens EVERY SINGLE WEEK – I’m there every Sunday in the morning to grocert shop, it isn’t alwasy 14 but at a minimum at least 3.
Something needs to be done, it’s not only me complaining – I heard 3 other shoppers waiting around me wondering what the heck is going on here – and again, every time they are there.
I will take my business elsewhere, and I don’t mean another Meijer store, I mean your competitor. I’ve been putting up with this for almost 2 years now. It’s frustrating, and today I reached me limit.
You should be ashamed of the way this is being managed.

Wow, after reading the above complaints, guess mine is rather mild. I drive approximately 15 miles to the Petoskey store and only go once a week. Lately EVERY week there are plenty of items not in stock. A couple weeks ago I had 5 items on my grocery list that were not available. The milk was not stocked on Friday morning at 10am; only whole milk, all other not stocked. This week the 99 cent chicken for whole chicken or split chicken breast were not available. They were cleaning the cooling section; I asked why not clean it at night and was told; there is no one to do it at night. Really, 10am on Monday and no chicken available. When I complained to a manager, I told him I was pissed as I am sick and tired of not having items available; his smart as reply was; don’t get pissed; get rain checks. I am not driving there again to get things that should be on the shelf the first time. Meijer has no concern for their customers and none for their employees; you can tell from the actions and statements of employees they are not treated good. How can a business keep going when there is no concern for employees or customers as they are what keeps a business going. SHAME ON YOU MEIJER; how would the original Meijer CEO feel if he knew how his business is being run; pretty crappy I would bet.

Times are getting more difficult. I don’t know if this is rural, or urban setting
for your boy’s bus stop. When we were young, we just went home and into
our house. Mom was home within half an hour from her work in a factory.
I have heard of others asking a neighbor to take in their child for after
school, but again, this may not be possible in your situation. I know you
don’t want to change jobs or work part time to get less pay, hmmm, so I
will pray for a solution for you. Putting myself in an employers position,
can I help find him someone willing to come in when I need to leave, and
if this is done for me, can everyone else come and go as they please too?
Usually companies have set times for jobs, first, second and third shift. Being
flexible is few and far between especially where there are many employees.
On the other hand, It’s a Wonderful Life, and we should all strive to make it
so not only for ourselves, but for others – if others complain, explain there is
the safety of a child involved in this person’s exception to the rule. If all the
others have children, or sick mother, or whatever (older dog needing depends),
customers don’t care who is at the check-out as long as they are pleasant,
focussed on getting us checked out and not talking to each other a lot like it
is break time when you are possibly running late for having to compare so
many in-house bargains! If the store cannot find more workers, could the
child be dropped off somewhere else? (friend, your job, etc) as this may be
a busier time for customers shopping after school pick-ups.

Today’a experience was the worst I’ve had at the Roseville, MI location. I’ve had other rude cashiers before, but this one topped the cake. The self-checkout computer screen needed service so we informed the cashier in charge. She replied rudely, w/out even making eye contact, “I already know that.” I then asked why the cashiers here are so rude and she said she wasn’t rude. I disagreed, saying she was. She then proceeded to tell me she had been up since 6:30am and was tired. I asked for her name b/c continued to argue w/ me. She mumbled her name and I said I couldn’t hear her. She did not reply. She had set her name badge on the scanner, so I picked it up to see her name. She snatched it out of my hand so hard, she actually hurt my thumb. It was at this point that I began yelling at her to get a manager “NOW” & saying i cannot believe “you just did that to me.” Her response: “Don’t touch my belongings.” She walks away and the cashier working with her stares at me and appears to get on the phone. Still, neither one said they were getting a manager. I go to ring my items up & the screen issue became a new one. So, I’m waiting and waiting until the person I was with goes up to the same cashier and told her there was still a problem. The cashier again rudely said she’s coming back-yet still stood there. The cashier comes back and I decided it was just best to have the service desk ring up the items b/c there were already a ton of people behind me and the scene made was extremely embarrassing.
The manager I spoke to was near the service desk (a greeter called her over for me) & was on her store phone and completed that call before talking to me. I assume she was possibly speaking with the cashier. Although she took my statement, apologized and said she would talk to her right now, I’m not sure I was taken completely serious. The person I was w/ noticed she seemed irritated, although polite to me.
Because of the degree of the incident, I will not be coming back. That cashier probably will not see any severe punishment for becoming physically aggressive with me. Fifty years ago, she would have lost her job immediately. But it’s quite clear that she doesn’t mind treating the ones, who essentially ensure she has a job (the customers) w/ respect & certainly not behaving the way she did in front of 50 others & expect that the customer she treated poorly, to take her abuse.

I was a dedicated Meier Shopper for over 20 years, buying 99% of all my groceries at your stores until last year. I now purchase 75% of all my groceries elsewhere. There was a time when customer service was of the utmost importance but, no longer is that the case. It’s very frustrating spending an hour shopping only to find that, when it’s time to check out you can expect another hour wait. I use self-checkout as it seems to be quicker however, in reality it’s not. Anywhere from 6-10 people all trying to check out at same time and only 1 cashier to assist (a complete nightmare).
It doesn’t matter which Meijer store I shop, I have 4 within very close proximity and at there all the same, no help and no customer service. The other major downfall with all your stores is that all your perishable products are near expiration or past expiration or out of stock. Another peeve, bottle machines rarely work or are always full and nobody ever around to fix them.
Corporate only seems to care about their bottom line and not their customers or employees, all that matters is the almighty dollar. God forbid (if I offended anyone for use of this word, too bad) I should happen to have a question I’d better be sure to ask an employee that’s not on break or lunch. For even if they wanted to help me, they can’t because they’ll get in trouble for punching in or out late. You treat your employees like dirt and your customers like the dust laying on the dirt. Meijer needs to get back to the basics and give their customer’s the service they deserve. Employees need to be treated with respect and in return they will be more prideful in their work. I worked in the grocery business for over 20 years and truly believe customers and employee relations need to be your top priority, then everything else will fall into place. Coupons and rewards won’t cut it.

Well said and that said. Take a break a moment and breathe. First of all, Yes
the clerk, while undoubtedly busy checking someone else out and trying to
concentrate despite interruptions, did snap back quickly to keep going with
her work. Fast work puts people in that mindset, or quick minded work like
accounting, politics (more tact needed here). Perhaps a more polite reply that
cashiers can be gently trained and reminded of quarterly would be, “I’ll get a
sign put on that as soon as I finish with this customer” I’m sorry the machine
took a break (for laughs). Saying the clerk was rude, because she snapped
back or answered you quickly to acknowledge your information – and yes, she
should have done something about that already including stopping to put the
sign up – stores, give clerks some paper to do that and tape please) puts her
not in a win-win situation because she is always told to keep checking people
out as anyone in a line becomes impatient. A self-help machine means you
now have to move to another, or get in another already crowded regular line
which you were trying to avoid to begin with. Shop when you are not in a hurry
even if it means 11 pm when less crowded – I’ve done it. If a clerk snaps back
or so it seems, please put yourself in her shoes and give her some breathing
space – maybe she could call customer service to handle this request and the
clerk could allow you to be her next customer or the customer service rep could
“place you at the front of a line” for your inconvenience while smiling at the
persons behind you begging their forgiveness to understand your position.
The world, as a whole, is becoming selfish driven by their rushed need for
time and money. If each one of us tries to walk and talk more softly a lot of
this could be avoided. Try to create “Good Ripples” for each other not bad
insulting comments to stir up fights whether rightful or not – what is a grocery
store – it used to be a place to catch a short visit from a neighbor – yes REALLY.
And before that, people actually invited neighbors who “dropped by uninvited”
into their kitchen for coffee and cake – one always had some ready, then
visiting on a Sunday became acceptable, then calling first, then apptmts – what
robots we are becoming – so unsocial.

I am AGAIN a very unhappy customer! And once AGAIN I am turning to your Facebook page because the store nor the customer care number has resolved my issue. I am an avid couponer at your store as well as several others in my area, who spends THOUSANDS of dollars at your store a year as well as makes you THOUSANDS of dollars a year with my coupons as you mark down my coupons to the price of the product, and then redeem that coupon for face value + $.08!!! I know all my store policies well, and never walk into the store expecting anything more or less. Back in March I was having issues with my Meijer store accepting competitor store coupons, so I took to this facebook page as well as the contact us link on the Meijer.com website. I received and PRINTED both responses to my question to have them with me while shopping… DOES MEIJER ACCEPT COMEPTITOR STORE COUPONS? Both of my responses back in March were the same “Yes” and specifically started Target Web Coupons were accepted and could be stacked with one Manufacturer Coupon PER ITEM… I have used and had absolutely no problems using these and stacking these coupons, even using them last week, up until today when I was rejected stating corporate gave them the no go! So I have reviewed your policy, which has not changed, and also spoke to a customer care person (Reference Number 150804-000308) who stated you do not accept any web coupons, which states NO WHERE in your policy that… even told me coupons from Coupons.com were no longer accepted, which states NO WHERE in your policy! So why am I now getting conflicting answers for this area of your policy! I asked to speak to someone higher up about this and was refused that privilege. Nothing has changed in your policy… so Why do I have letters/messages from your corporate office stating Target Web Coupons are to be accepted and all of a sudden they are being denied?
Thanks, a very confused and angry customer!

Let me explain the full roll of Greeter to you.
Do you know shoplifting costs retailers billions of dollars a year? Which get passed along to the consumer?
Greeters help prevent that. Same with associates who say hello or acknowledge a person.
Ever hear that door buzzer go off and see a Greeter ask to see the persons receipt? They are checking to make sure someone isn’t leaving without paying for an item. They know they can’t pursue, but they can make sure Loss Prevention/Security knows of the issue and they can then know when to review the cameras if someone doesn’t want to show their receipt, let their bags be compared with their receipts, etc. They can also give LP a general idea of what the thief looks like, was wearing.

I have contacted the local Meijer in Grand Ledge and the corporate office nothing HAS BEEN DONE. Today Saturday, Aug 1, 2015 this store had NO 1/2 gallons of milk left. I even asked the person behind the dairy case that was stocking if they had any and said he would look only to come back and say no. I don’t know who this grocery manager is related to or who he knows, BUT he is the worse manager I have ever seen in my 50+ years of grocery shopping. First no corn beef around St. Pat days, then no dairy creme for coffee, then out of Lipton tea, on and on. After 2 years they are still blaming it on a previous grocery store closing in Grand Ledge and they haven’t caught up in what the demand is. REALLY??? I worked close to 43 years, if I had performed this poorly I would NOT of stayed employed. Isn’t this a right to work state?

I tell my daughter all the time to not use meijer for her grocery shopping, do to my past disappointing results in food quality and service. Well, she went anyway, to the store in Columbus Ohio. It is located on North Cleveland Avenue. It is approximately one mile from her house, so she had to send her husband there to get chicken. After her husband came home with the chicken presented it to her, showing her that the date on it was not expired, she opens it and it reeks of old meat.
I asked her if she would please return the meet with the receipt, but it was late at night and she didn’t want to deal with it.
I told her once again to never go to that Meijer. Go the extra mile and a half down the road to Kroger. It’s a shame, but this store on Cleveland Avenue in Columbus Ohio is horrible.

I applied for a drugstore job at Meijer. After my interviews, I did a follow-up phone call a week or so later. I was happy to hear that I got the job and asked my team leader if I would be given on the job training (I was already entitled to it thanks to State/Federal Law and company policy, but I figured it couldn’t hurt to ask). They said “yes”. I didn’t realize it then, but that was the biggest lie I was ever told in my entire life. Whenever I asked for help with an assignment, they would do it for me without walking me through it (how does this qualify as on the job training?), refused to train me “How do I print out the label?”, “No, you’re not ready to do that yet.” (Seriously? There aren’t any customers or phone calls, this would be a good time to be teach me.) or they flat out trained me incorrectly, when I was ringing up a customer at the cash register, I looked at the paperwork and it said the prescription cost 1 cent, a co-worker came to me and told me the customer gets this prescription for free and said to scan a barcode that said “Free Metformin”. Fair enough, but later, I looked at another paper that said “Vibramycin” and the price was also 1 cent. The same co-worker came back and told me “Metformin” free, remember?” I responded “That wasn’t Metformin, that was Vibramycin”. Turns out if the paper said “1 cent”, I had to scan the “Free Metformin” barcode regardless of the presscription’s name, however, this was the kind of thing my co-worker should’ve told me about earlier. The absolute worse they did in regards to my training was throw me into assignments I had no idea how to handle like helping out a customer who didn’t speak English. If they don’t speak English and I don’t speak their language, how am I supposed to help them? Or scan mail ordered prescriptions into the computer system when they were flat out aware I’ve never done this before. As for my responsibilities (or lack thereof) outside of counting tablets and capsules (the word “pills” is inaccurate) or working the cash register, I spent most of my time taking garbage into the backroom, bringing supplies from the backroom to the drugstore, or taking stickers and putting them on the paper bags. Going between the drugstore and backroom could’ve been fulfilled by any store employee and putting stickers on the bags could’ve been done by a kindergartner.
A month or so later around Christmas last year, I was given a 2 weeks notice and told I had to show some improvements or else my employment would be terminated. While I did show some improvements, less than 1 week later, my team leader decided to kick me out on account that I was struggling with the computer software even though for reasons stated above (non-existent/incompetent training and lack of responsibilities), I didn’t have much time to work with the computers.
After this, they decided to kick me while I was already down and marked me as “not eligible for rehire” even though my work performance was directly caused by their incompetent management style.
If you work at Meijer, you WILL regret it.

The constant waking up from the delivery trucks ( especially refrigeration ones) causes one to sell their house!!! We purposely bought a townhome in a very quiet neighborhood only to be woken up by loud, annoying refrigeration trucks running constantly (all day and night)!! The only thing that stops the noise is a burr and some trees that Meijer had built. Our backyard backs up to Meijer; they need to build a cement wall with sound barriers! I purchased a $100 Macy’s gift card at the Auburn Hills Meijer store on Mothers Day 2015 for my mother in law along with over $150 worth of groceries. When my mother in law went to use the card at Macy’s, she was told it had a $0 balance. I took the gift card back to Meijer three times before they would check their system to see if the card was ever activated. Julie, the 2nd manager I spoke with who refused to help me, assured me that it was impossible for an error of this nature to occur so Macy’s or I must have made a mistake. Finally, on my third visit to the customer service desk to get help, Doug, a more helpful manager had my transaction looked up and he verified that the card was never activated despite Meijer charging me $100 and Julie’s insistent that this error was not possible (clearly it was). This ordeal caused great embarrassment for my mother in law, me as well as my husband; not to mention 1 1/2 hours of my time. To add insult to injury, I received a $2.50 voucher for my next visit and a reminder not to let their error ruin my evening. With this bit of sage advise and after 25 years of loyalty to Meijer’s, I’m taking my business elsewhere.

I worked for the Meijers in Algonquin, IL for several months. There are a few quality people, but most of the employees are mean-spirited and petty (to customers and other employees). Other issues that should really be addressed: 1.) The temperatures over the cash registers can regularly go above 80, even if it’s winter time. 2.) Add to the excessive heat while forced to repeatedly lift heavy items, the cashiers are forbidden from taking a sip of water. Every other employee in the store has a chance to drink water. I asked the CS person, the team leader, the shift leader and department head why it was arbitrarily hot up front, and they all either shrugged or said that the temperatures were controlled by the corporate office. They didn’t even care that it was an OSHA violation. 3.)They hire you as part time, then schedule you 35 and more hours a week. When I asked if I would qualify for health benefits, Justin told me that they would make sure to drop my hours so I wouldn’t qualify for them. Nice…. 4.) After staying late and filling in for several call-offs, I asked if those counteracted any of the points from calling in sick yourself. Justin said, “No.” I replied that it seemed only fair, he responded that I should feel lucky to be given the chance to earn extra money. Using that logic, he should have been grateful when people called in sick as it saves on his labor cost. 5.) No one ever told me that you should use a suspend transaction when the CS rep has to check a price or go look for something. Nor was I told that they averaged the number of items you rang from beginning to end of sale. It probably looked like I rang 1 item every 45 seconds! Ha! I had many people not only compliment me and tell the team leader, but they wrote nice letters and gave excellent shop reports. I used to love shopping there, but I just don’t want to give money to a company that treats its employees so callously.

I was in your Southgate mi store on 5/12 . I was checking out at self check out and was ringing up my products when the handle on the bag broke. The cashier came over due the fact that the machine now required an over ride to continue due to I moved the bag because of the issue. She was very rude and searched through my bags as though I was steeling. I continued on and again another bag broke and the cashier came again and complained that I was moving the bags causing the machine to need her assistants. At this point I had enough and left everything at the register and walked out. It’s very sad u have to deal with an employee who is annoyed by having to do their job. Won’t be shopping at that store again. This was at 1:30 am. Not like there is a line at the register and I was causing a back up I was the only one there.

This is a customer service complaint. I could not get anyone at the store in customer service to answer my call. I was on hold 3 times for 15 minutes or more. This problem has happened several times, we get our order processed by your cashier and they put one thing in a bag and it gets left at the store. Your cashiers do not hand the last bag to the customer which should be in your training policy. I go to the Petoskey store, but I won’t be going there for a long time. We live 35 miles from your store so going back is not an option. Saving money is why I go there, but I can go to Wall Mart across the street and get better customer service, My husband already filled out a complaint on sec.#

Meijer has recently made a decision to replace their dry roasted peanuts and sunflower seeds with a different product. After waiting for at least 3 weeks without anything on the shelf, they were replaced with an inferior products. The peanuts taste nasty and feel like they are regular roasted peanuts pretending to be dry roasted. They lack the crunch and flavor of the previous selection. My whole family has low blood sugar and depend on the peanuts to supply a source of protein throughout the day. I personally bought 3-5 jars per week. They were the best tasting peanuts that I could find (including the competitor brands). The sunflower seeds taste rancid in comparison to the dry roast. Please reconsider going back to the previous line or carry both for choices for the customers. As it is I WILL NOT purchase the current product! Thank you for your consideration.

I am diabetic and was In serious need of insulin syringes. Walmart is usually where I get my insulin syringes but their drugstore had closed early due to a holiday. I went in to Meijer at 26mile Rd and Van Dyke in Washington Twp. I asked for syringes and the women asked me if I filled my insulin prescription with them. I told them I filled it at Walmart but they were closed. She said she couldn’t give me syringes because it was against Meijer policy. I can’t find this “policy” anywhere online and I’d also like to know with Meijer syringes being $20 more than Walmart, why would it be against Meijer policy to help people…

I worked for Meijer for almost 6 years, I loved my job. I voluntarily left to start a job that I have been lucky enough to receive my degree in. at the time that I left I was working TWO full time jobs while attending college and raising a child. When I quit I gave more than a months notice so that my team leader could hire someone to replace me, which she did not do. I have recently fallen on hard times and inquired with my former team leader about possibly getting rehired only to be told that I am not able to be rehired? and to top things off it is February 7th and I STILL have not received my W2! Last I knew those had to be sent out by January 31st yet when I inquired with payroll about that they said that they were not getting mailed until the 2nd of February! My W2’s have been emailed to me for the last 6 years, I feel that that should have been an option for me still!
Holly Jakubowski says
I’m a former employee, and I’d like to know where my W2 is. It’s already going on the second week of February. This is ridiculous and is setting me back for my FAFSA and scholarship applications for school. So unless Meijer wants to pay for my tuition next year, I suggest mine shows up in the mail this week.

I was recently fired from the Maxtown rd. Meijer in Westerville OH. the wonderful reason…. my dad died. I hadn’t been there past my 90 days yet. mind you I was just shy of getting to the 90 day mark when this happened. Meijer made me feel like I had to make the choice to be at the hospital with my family to say goodbye to my dad who passed away 3 days after Christmas or leave and to be at work and have that on my conscience my whole life. if it where any of your family members what would be your choice I ask you? they pointed me for being at the hospital that night rather than working, I was scheduled off the next 3 days, the following day I had to work I missed and it was put in as a no call no show- I did not make it due to grief and trying to make funeral arrangements. as a result this pushed my point number above the allotted amount. when I spoke to my boss about trying to have them removed due to what had happened he said even if they took them off he felt I would lose my job in a month anyway so was there a point? at this point I felt I didn’t want to try and save a job that didn’t want me. they had already fired me and taken me off the next weeks schedule. how is that right that they feel they can tell you “sorry you haven’t been here 90 days we wont give you grievance days paid or not”. even if your only 8 days away from your 90 days. I was so mad and hurt. I truly liked the co workers I worked side my side with. But since having been treated like that by the management over the death of my father I have not returned to Meijer as a customer or to see anyone. I doubt if I ever will. and to top it off they are taking their sweet time mailing their former employees W2’s out.

I grew up in Kalamazoo Michigan and my first job was at Meijer Thrifty Acres as a cashier on senior year of high school. Meijer provided a perfect first job situation. It was family oriented and trained their employees well. I partially credit my success in the business world to that beginning. I now live in Virginia and return to Michigan to stay on one of the lakes and visit family and friends a couple times a year. Visiting a Meijer store is a part of nostalgia. However, it won’t be included in my future plans.
Last June I spent a week vacationing with friends and stopped near Battle Creek to get gas at one of your stations. I used my Meijer card (it has to be used to remain active). I paid the card in full once the statement was receives, as I always do. In September I received a statement showing a balance of $88.01. I called your customer service and spoke with a representative who was courtesy and helpful. She assisted me in filing a fraud claim because the purchases were made while I was in Virginia. It was a little dismaying and I suspected one of your own employees had to have been involved since these were gas purchases. I later received a new card and a letter explaining the matter had been corrected, determined to be fraud and I was not liable for those charges.
Imagine my distain when I got my first and only collection call last night at 9pm from Community Bank.
I have never received any statements since the letter saying the matter had been corrected. I did receive new Meijer cards but had not planned to use them since they were no longer your in house card. I am not even sure if you can legally issue such a card without my permission, but that point is mute.
I explained to the collection clerk about the fraud situation and was told I would have to contact the fraud bureau. Perhaps some training needs to be completed at the company that you now have representing your brand.
I contacted Meijer customer service and received about the same quality service as I had from Community Bank’s collection company. I was transferred to Community Bank’s fraud division and that representative was able to read their screen and see where the process failed and I owed nothing and should not have been bothered, and upset with the harassment of a credit collection call.
You may think this is not your problem, that it was not your company because you sold those accounts. My Meijer’s name is still on the card. And I hope others will do as I did and cut up their cards, make the decision that nostalgia is not worth dealing with the incompetence and not shop in a Meijer store again.
I am fairly certain a collection call is not warrantied even if there was a delinquent account without some prior notification in the form of a statement or bill. And I am more than offended to have received such a call when it was mishandling of my card that credited the original situation and negligence in not clearing it as promised.

I JUST RETURNED from your store. My shopping experience was not a good one. I had prepared the day before by going to M perks and clicking on coupons and special savings. I printed my list and headed to the store. I couldn’t find the pj sets that were on sale for men and women. When I went to the register the cashier asked me if I had loaded my m perks info because nothing came up. I said I had. He told me that there was a 5% off special running today and I needed the entry to get it. It wasn’t on the phone the day before. Now here’s the problem : it’s my husband’s phone and he was at work. I was also not happy I had to go log into the site again to get the savings. I went to customer service with my receipt and my shopping list but they could do nothing. All of this is very frustrating to me. I think you as a corporation are leaving out the older population from your offers. Because I’m not savvy and don’t have my own site I can’t get your offers without much trouble. My step mother (80) on limited income can’t get your offers. Next time I’ll hand the phone to the clerk and have them check the site for me. Always shop with someone up to date or loose out. What are your customer service people for if they can’t fix your problem?Another complaint is being handed register generated coupons for items I just purchased with a short due date. What kind of offer is that? I wouldn’t be needing those items for a month in most cases. I also hate being. handed a coupon for something I just bought for next time- 10.00 off your next foot ware purchase when you just purchased shoes for example. I call those psuedo coupons or giving you something you’ll never really use. I would be happy to have been able to use it on the shoes I did buy. Give me real offers not these useless things.

On Thanksgiving day I tried to pay the Meijer bill online (like I’ve done in the past) and went round and round and was not able to access the web site to pay the bill. After a call to MasterCard I found out the card I had was no good any more and a new bank was handling the credit card. After a long time on the phone I was added to my wife’s account so I could talk to someone. After a long time I finally was able to get into the new web site and pay the bill. I still have no credit card and my mperks don’t work. I was told it takes 2 weeks to get a new card. I guess you don’t want me to use it that much. I have called your crappy call call centers several times and have still no resolved the situation to my satisfaction. It is almost a week later. you hide like cowards behind call centers. Hang up on me. Give me incorrect information. I ask for a supervisor I get cut off. DO YOU REALLY WANT ME TO USE YOUR CREDIT CARD!!! All you have to say Meijer doesn’t not care if people use their credit card. If this is the customer service you provide I will probably not do business with Meijer.

Thursday November 27, 2014 I went into the Meijer store in Wixom, Michigan to purchase a DVD ,the wizard of oz. I walked up to the counter in electronics. Behind the counter there was a female and a male. Both of them pretended not to see me. The male walked off. I could tell by her actions that she wished I would go away so that she would not have to assist me. Finally after 10 minutes she acts like she wants to assist me-until another customer walked up, she looked relieved . I was there first but she stopped assisting me- and told me that she was going to assist her and will be back later to assist me. I am not prejudice, but she showed that she was. I am African American , and she was Caucasian. I had other DVDs to purchase. But after that treatment, I put them down and left the store . I feel that my money is just as good as the next person. It is a shame that people are still so prejudice. When working in the public there will be all kinds of races, and if you can’ deal with it – it’s best to find another job where you do not have to deal with other races. I will not shop where I am not wanted.

Meijer is not a family run place anymore all they care about is making money and dont care who they run over that includes the disabled. If you want to keep employees you need to pay them a fair wage and treat them with respect. They bring you this money to you every day you owe them big time.dont take advantage of the little guys Michigan Corp. Hello, Hank. I work at meijer and ever since I started, it has been getting progressively worse. The management especially. All they care about is cutting hours so they can get that bonus check at the end of the year. I am trying to go to school and live. Also, meijer says they are a “family company”. if so, why have I been forced to work on one of the most important family days of all? I have not been able to see my family on Thanksgiving for 4 years now because of it.

One of the main reasons I quit working there. the have a “union” yet after working there almost 6 years I was still receiving less hours than new hires? the manager in my department was more concerned with making friends and talking about her coworkers behind our backs than doing her job. all she did was sit in the office and eat, sleep, and pretend to work.

They have a lot of espoused values, but they do not actually practice those. It is in every corner of the company that leadership looks the other way. It is all ‘lip service’ I am sorry to say. The best thing they have are the hourly team members, these folks are good people and will make you feel like family, but corporate will not support them or give them a decent wage. It is a shame when the Meijer brothers are now listed as two of most richest men in the USA…how do you like that? You are working for peanuts to make them rich.

This name and the name on my schedule at Meijer store 169 are different. There is a reason for that, but it’s not a good one. Perhaps you would like to ask my store’s RAA. I got married back in March and gave her my new driver’s license and marriage certificate. I was told I needed a new SS card as well. I ordered it and received it in April. I came in on my day off to give it to her. I waited, and waited, and waited. My name didn’t change. I went and asked her why and was told she never got my SS card. Uh huh, ok, fine. I brought it in again and was told she’d get to it but she was very busy. It’s now Halloween. She’s so busy that she leaves at least 15 minutes early every day, and I went in once for a different matter about half an hour before she was to leave, just to see her sharing pictures with a manager that she’s very close friends with. I got the dirtiest look for being there. I’m not the only one that has problems with her. If you’re below management level, you’re below getting any help from her, apparently.

A very good friend of mine was hired in at store 46 a litile over a year ago. He was originally hired with the understanding that he was not available to work on Sunday’s as he is very involved in his church. Recently he was forced into a compromise to start work at 1pm so he could continue attending & volunteering at his church. Meijer claims to be a family friendly company that does not discriminate against race, gender, or religious beliefs. As of last week his new manager has been referring to him as “church boy” & today told him he has no option but to start working earlier on Sunday. My friend is part-time & has a admiral work ethic. On top of this he is being scheduled 4 hour shifts yet being held 10-12 hours a day. & not being allowed to contact his family if he is gonna be late. This is taking a toll on his family & relationship with his kids. I am very disappointed in how he is being treated. He puts 110% if not more into his job, yet his only thanks is being taking advantage of & discrimated against for his personal beliefs. He needs this job to provide for his family & is afraid that if he stands up for himself he will lose his job. How is this a family friendly company?

I had transferred my meds about 3months ago from rite-aid thinking that was a good idea but boy after the three months I realized I had certainly made a big mistake.not only are the pharmacist technician quite dumb but not one time have they got it right I called two to three hours ahead of time and then go to pick them up and come to find out that they still have not even got them ready or they had not even filled everything that I had requested. so I will be transferring all 13 medications back to rite-aid as soon as next month gets here and I mean everyone of them. Now that I grocery trade there for 4 years I will be going back to Krogers for that also. The only reason for me grocery shopping at Meijer in the first place is because it is closer too my home & I was using m-perks but not any more. I will be using my Kroger rewards card instead. Plus they got better customer service there. I’m sorry to tell you that Meijer but I gave you guys a chance with me plenty of times, also I’ve even made call to corporate and still have not had any one call or do a follow up on my situation. I guess in the long run they really don’t care about the concerns that a customer has. So Meijer you have my name and my e-mail address and you know how to get in contact with me if you want to see what issues I have and why I feel the way I do.

I am sorry you had your experience .. Makes me want to boycott them…. Mine has been terrible since as well. I wanted to share my experience with Meijer this past year. I have been a loyal shopper since I was a little girl. This past year though the frozen foods section is never stocked and out of the products that I routinely buy. I spoke with the frozen food manager and he stated it was a vendor issue. It has come to the point that I will be looking elsewhere to do my grocery shopping since what I buy is not in stock. I would speak with someone from the home store about this but finding contact information for the managers is not apparently available and I have been brought to this website.
The store is the B Drive North, Battle Creek Store. The products they are out of routinely are the California BBQ chicken pizza and Digiorno. Also, the Tyson frozen chicken products. The case has sat empty for two to four weeks at a time for Tyson.

I am very disappointed in Meijer’s treatment of my sister Mary Pollard who worked at your Findlay, Ohio store for 17 years then was terminated under your point system primarily for absenteeism even though nearly all of the absences were due to illness or while she was in rehab for a shoulder injury. To add insult to injury the store reported to Jobs and Family Services that she was terminated “for cause'” which then prevented her from collecting any unemployment benefits after 17 years of faithful service. There is no excuse for this shoddy treatment of a faithful 17 year employee. Although we shopped regularly at the local Meijer store it’s doubtful that we will ever shop there again or recommend to our friends that they shop there. Your should be embarrassed by this shoddy treatment of such a long term employee.
Icare says
She should be qualified for unemployment. Hopefully she filed. Even though Meijer may fight her on it, she has a good case and should win those benefits. Tell her not to take ‘no’ for an answer. Ohio unemployment laws are actually on her side, even though she missed work and was discharged for excessive attendance violations, it was NOT intentional and was not done wilfully to harm the employer. She must file for unemployment.
EX loyal Customer says
Very disappointed with Meijer. I’ve been a loyal customer for several years, I do all my shopping in different Meijers but I rather shop more at certain store, in specific shift because when they get to know you the treatment is a little better (even when barely reach customer’s expectations) I had a few complaints to file with corporate that are extremely concerning when it comes to business. Considering that I worked as a retail manager for different stores for long years, it’s very sad to see and to experience such a low quality of customer care and treatment. I blog everyday to review items, stores overall, and how customer friendly stores are, a considerably amount of potential customers follow other people’s feedback to make a decision if to buy or not from a specific store. I had recently experienced 2 very unpleasant issues that aren’t simple to forget, in fact, there has been previous lawsuits on retail for similar situations.
In another note, I found money on the floor, asked every customer around (loudly so everyone could hear) to find it’s owner, I even made some people check on their purses to make sure, but everyone said it didn’t belong to them. Because it’s money and not a property I understand that is my choice to either keep it or do another effort to find the owner. I went to customer service to notify what happened and to leave my information in case anyone comes to ask for loss of cash inside the store, I can give it to the person myself. The customer service said “I have to call the manager because if I do that, I can lose my job you have to leave what you found here”. Being honest, WAS A HUGE MISTAKE, the manager arrived with a very bad attitude, and I was treated like a CRIMINAL, they forced me to leave the money, they didn’t give me a receipt and the manager put the money in her pocket with a very bad attitude. She said that “I HAVE to leave what I found and if nobody claims it in 30 days, it will be return to me but that they wouldn’t call me, I had to ask in a month”. I found it, I asked people out loud, I stopped many people to make sure they verify if they loss their money, I went to customer service myself to notify and leave my information, WHO DOES THAT NOWADAYS?! My intentions were honest because I could never sleep thinking that someone probably starve because they loss their cash, reason why I voluntarily went to notify. Considering that it’s the person’s choice to either keep or return, this issue was managed horribly!!!

Yes my name is Maureen Gasiorek and i worked for Meijer Store (0169) under my probation hours and wanted to know How to fight for my job back, since they let me go as of this past Sunday(Aug 10, 2014), and my probation wasn’t suppose to be ended on Aug 15, 2014. I made one mistake and my Team leader let me go, which it wasn’t right to my acknowledgement. Please help me with this situation. Thank You. M.G.

Roger, I am sorry this happened to you. If you are disabled, them teasing you harassment and a violation of the ADA probably as well. Meijer has an employee policy against harassment, you have the right to work in a safe environment, free from harassing comments and statements about your disability or speech. You should talk to your store director, if you do not get anywhere with them, go to the Meijer portal and look up the Senior VP of Human Resources or the Manager of Workers Compensation…she is a fair and caring person and will most likely guide you to the right person. You should follow the Meijer Dispute Resolution Policy (DRP) it has an open door provision that will address this for you. Good luck. You deserve to be treated with respect and dignity at all times.

I have been shopping at meijer since I was 18, before that my with my mom in the first one in Greenville, MI. Then in Grand Rapids in 1962, Then the store on Westnedge in Kalamazoo Mi, Then Battle Creek, Mi, then back to Portage, MI luckily they built on near me in Portage. But the problem is that every week I go there something else is not on the shelf. Keep cutting products. I sure hate the thought of going to the super center on Westnedge like I had to when I first moved to Portage in the 60’s. But perhaps they may still have my products. If not? The Walmart is going to build on and make that a super center, near me next year, I may not need Meijer and is closer. I am sure I am not the only one with this complaint, Or if you have a sale, you don’t have the product on the shelf or in the store. There has become some pretty bad handling of M stores it seems. You may be making $ but that is because of the cost going up of everything I am sure. If the product is not there, Do you expect people to run back? Some people come from a distance, and wouldn’t buy it if they didn’t need it.

Dear Hank
Hi, I am Margaret Schmid I work at meijer store #20 Alpine. I have been there for 6.5 years for over 3 year I have worked 8am to 4:30pm. They forced me to go to part time. because I work 2 other job and can not work 11:30am to 8:00. How can you do this to a single mom with kids trying to put food on the table. Please help me get full time back. Thank you

Meijer doesn’t give a XXXXX about you or your kids. The almighty dollar is all they care about.

I thought you should know what is going on at alpine store #20, I have worked there for 6 1/2 years full time. Now they have a new schedule, that forced me to go to part time, I am a single mom with 5 kids at home. I work 2 other part time jobs. I have always worked 8:00am to 4:30 Now they say I have to work 11:30 to 8:00 at night not being home with my kids at all and having to quit my other part time jobs. The mangers say they can’t change it the store director Byron said ” if it dosen’t work out, to go some where else.” What would your dad think about this? I’m sure he would no allow this to happen and would be ashamed

The store i work in is #33 was said to be the best meijers around, Managers are pervs and don’t care to fix any issues so makes it hard to talk to them about things. Most of the people who work there are lazy or rude to each other. The point system is lame a new girl not even 3weeks and called in 2 or 3 times and took off on the job 3 times and they are okay with it. So it makes getting things done so much worse. They are in need for employees but don’t pay enough and have rude people working there so not many people want to join there team and I don’t blame them. I work hard and only get pt hours while grocery gets paid way more and new people can start full time.they say im a good asset to the store, I think they are full of it and someone needs to fix these problems.
Julie Brown says
I’ve worked at Meijer for 15 years and they have cut my hours so much that I can’t afford to pay my bills and buy food. They do not care about any of us. They’re evil, greedy bastards.
L says
Im an employee at store 23, and its a piece of crap to work for and I hope corporate sees this. The way we are treated is inhumane.
We are yelled at for taking our breaks by management, unless we suck up to them. God forbid you have a family member die and need to be with your family and at the services, you’ll get points. Dont you dare have to go to the ER. Your doctors note isnt worth anything, because it wasnt written the day before your shift. Point. Im not a mind reader, and I cant time travel to know that Ill be in the hospital 14 hours instead of at work. Dont faint. Point. Dont ask for water or a bathroom break unless you want to get yelled at.
Management comes out of their offices to yell that you arent working hard enough in the un- air conditioned building with no water, while they sit on their asses in coolness eating and drinking doing nothing all day. Dont ask for anyone to take back cold stuff because you actually care to reduce shrink, because managers dont give a crap.
Managers also think its ok to do illegal things like approve the return of alcohol. Severe food allergies that are sending you into anaphylactic shock? Point, sent home, and marked down that you just didnt want to be there. File a grievance? No, they will not talk with you about it.
Schedules are purposely done bad so employees are held on late calls, we are always under staffed, and protocol is only followed when corporate is coming in. Managers give you five tasks to do when you are too busy to do it, but wont lift a finger. Managers sit in their group in the break room and talk crap about everyone in the store.
The whole store is filthy, but we’re not giving any cleaning any proper tools to clean with our time to do it. We dont have any up to date equipment and nothing works properly. The managers allow customers to threaten us, treat us poorly, and dont defend us.
Nothing gets fixed in our store and we run on broken things. You call a manger and they dont pick up the phone, when you can see them and they are laughing and playing around and you need them right away, or worse, they pick up, hang up, and go right back to doing nothing. The store doesnt follow any of the policies and makes up rules that arent in the handbooks to give people points. They target workers they dont like and favor people that dont do a damn thing.
If a department has multiple managers, they are all allowed to vacation at the same time, so the department has to deal with a different manager who has no idea what in the hell they are doing or the polices for the department because its not their area.
Some of the managers dont even listen to the complaints of the customers or workers, they just smile and nod, and then after the person is done talking ask what the problem is.
I could add a million more things to this list but I think Ill leave you with that for now.

Meijer has a 100% turnover rate…they have 68,000 employees, that means each year 68,000 team members quit or are discharged and 68,000 are hired in their place. There is a reason for this….hint hint (it is not a good place to be employed) I figure soon, they will have employed about everyone in the five states they are in, and there will be no one left to work in their stores. Won’t that change how they treat their team members. Michigan has a bottle return law and you get 10 cents a can or bottle…. collect cans and be your own boss, you wont get fired and you will probably make more money than working at Meijer and be happier.

It amazes me how you people don’t care of what happens to your employees especially when you have so-called supervisor’s that tell the stock handler’s to f’n shut your mouth. Expect those employee’s to come to work when they have restrictions. The ones you have for supervisor’s have no people skills & would rather sit on their butts instead of helping to get product on shelves. I would never recommend anyone to shop at your stores again & I will never step foot in one either.

My son worked at the Loveland oh store for eleven months an was termanated for horse play Prior to the Loveland store he worked in Westerville, Ohio store for 13 years. In both stores he worked in the warehouse unloading trucks. My son has disabilities that happen at the time of birth. He had seizures up until he was six years old now he only has tremors every two to three weeks that last for about 10 seconds.
Ever sine my son started working at the Loveland store he has been bullied, spit on, and had ketchup, flour and pasta sauce thrown on him. He also had a 40 lb bag of bird seed thrown at him. His neck was twisted and grabbed many times, the co-workers made sexual harassment comments and they would go around imitating his disabilitiy. On April 25,2014 a co-worker made a video him having a tremor and showed it to different employees and maybe he even put it on social media. He was fired for doing this video and my son was fired for horse play. My intent going to the store director was to make him aware of what was going on in the warehouse so my son wouldn’t end up paralized from a broken neck and to protect the other co workers from getting hurt.. So the bottom line is if you work for meijer’s and have a problem don’t take your problem to meijer’ because you will end up losing your job.
The definition of horse play is a person with disabilies trying to protect himself against bullies

How can she not be a candidite with a 3.98 GPA 5th in her class. 3 years on the National Honors, 3 years of SADD and being the vice pres. on top of all this she ran cross county track and Forensices (Competive Speach). We are a 3 generation of meijer family. My father (Retired 25 years) myself (25 years), my sister is (at corprate) my niece at store 25 her dad at 174(30 years) and her aunt at 25 has 15 years. It amazes me how there are never any lanes open until someone from corporate shows up. I was in the store the other day and of course there are a lot of lanes open then I look over and notice all the corporate people. I think you guys need to show up at store 45 without notice and see what really happens around there. The store director is very rude and so are the managers that are up by the registers. I was so excited about Meijer being opened in Danville Illinois until now. A very good friend was going through chemotherapy and found out it did not work, she sought treatment in Chicago. Her only son and family member Jeremy Morgenson was her only way to and from treatments. He lost his job due to absences for taking his mom to her appointments. His mother will not be with him much longer and I just can not wrap my head around a company that cares so little for an employee’s situation. I understand there are rules for reasons but there are also exceptions to rules. He will have no where to live after she is gone because he no longer has a job to support himself. Isn’t there something that can be done to help this young man? So disappointed in your management at the Danville store.

I am disappointed in some of the supervisory personnel that Meijers has when simple task of stocking shelves takes precedence over saving a life. My daughter along with another employee who works for the Meijers Store in Traverse City saved a fellow employee who went down with a heart attack on May 29th, 2014. The lady went down and my daughter started compression on her chest along with monitoring her pulse, the other employee performed the breathing technique. They did save this lady’s life. My concern is the supervisor was more concerned as to why she didn’t get all of her stocking done. She received no Thank You from him only grief. Very disappointed.

I am a potential customer in a market where Meijer is building 3 stores with 2 oping this spring Rockford, IL area. I was turned off when I saw their search ads for various positions. After viewing them I noticed whoever entered them into the system, in this case LinkedIn, left all the (fill-in-the-blanks) just as they read. For example:
Currently, Meijer is looking for friendly team members for our new store opening soon in (FILL IN CITY).
When the new Meijer store at (FILL IN STREET ADDRESS) opens its doors late this Spring, it will bring to (FILL IN CITY NAME) not only a convenient one-stop destination for grocery, gas and general merchandise, but more importantly, it will provide more than 200 jobs for local residents.
Filling those positions – from clerks and cake decorators to meat cutters and utility workers – begins (FILL IN DATE PHONE SCREENING BEGINS) when Meijer leaders will begin conducting phone interviews. Candidates who are selected to continue in the interview process based on these phone interviews will be called back for scheduled interviews to be held at an off site location the week of (FILL IN DATE MASS HIRING BEGINS).
Those interested in a career opportunity are asked to complete an on-line application prior to (FILL IN DATE PHONE SCREENING BEGINS) when Meijer representatives will begin conducting phone interviews with interested candidates.

The other day I wrote to Meijer because of a complaint I had about how the mperks program works. The reason for that letter now, matters little because the reply I got back just really made me that much more annoyed. It was one of those “pre-written” letters that I’m sure someone will recognize. You know, the the one that starts out with “We appreciate your business and your opinion is important to us, etc, etc, etc” Now, #1, they picked out a couple of key words and sent the “appropriate” reply or #2, they didn’t read the whole letter (which I guess goes along with #1) or #3, they were too stupid to understand what my complaint was about or #4, they just plain didn’t give a darn because the reply didn’t touch on the main point of my complaint at all. Lordy me, how I hate getting one of those “no answer” answers. You just know they don’t really care.
Now, as long as I’m blowing off steam, remember when there was a little price sticker on every item until our Governor said that was no longer necessary and that everything would have the price clearly marked on the shelf. Now there’s a joke!! There’s been a couple of times when I’ve actually said “excuse” me feeling rather stupid, and asked another customer if they happened to see the price marked any where just in case it was in front of my face and I didn’t see it. But no, the other person couldn’t find one either.(okay, these items were not in the grocery department). And one more thing while I’m at it, sometimes when I can’t find something, I’ll ask a worker in the aisle, “Meijer employee or vendor?” and 99% of the time, it’s a vendor because you can’t find a Meijer employee anywhere around, it’s like they don’t exist. I must admit though, that the vendors are always very helpful, even when it’s not their product I’m looking for or even if it’s in another aisle.
Family Fare may be a little more expensive but it it is closer and it’s looking better all the time.

I wish to tell why we shop at Meijers. The greeters are wonderful the way they welcome us .
I am 84 and need a electric cart, they help me obtain one. We spend well over $300.00 every time we visit the store. The cashier are polite and pack the groceries so the bags are not to heavy for me to carry. Something I really appreciate, is trying to locate where I can find a product., and the clerk will stop what he or she is doing , and take me to the area where it is located. We usually need help carrying the groceries to our car. All we have to do is ask for help and a carry out person is right there to help us unload. The part I like is fill my basket(the one on the electric cart) and take a break in the cafeteria where I can enjoy a cup of coffee and a doughnut. The store we enjoy is :3900 W US 10 Ludington Michigan.(when my wife has her shopping completed we meet for coffee and check out.) Respectfully, Mr.& Mrs. Mary and Richard Lange

I really enjoy shopping at Meijer’s and spend a lot of money there. I go go online, lookup the item that I want, and check out the measurements to make sure the item will work for me, and make sure it is in Storer. However, Meijer’s has decided to redo their website, and so you cannot currently search their webset and will not be able to do so until the fall os 2014. I find this extremely disappointing, and I am surprised that they choose to handle there website issues in an extremely poor business manner. This could be compared to the way the Obama Administration handled the Healthcare website. I just cannot imagine the financial loss this must be, but it seems Meijer’s this isin’t important to Meijer’s that we are paying customers.

We will no longer shop at Meijer stores. The Lapeer Michigan store has poorly trained Mgr’s.Several issues with the Mgr in charge Diane and her 2 Mgr’s Rhonda and Arlene at the Lapeer MI store.Debbie the head Mgr. has 30 yrs experience and was unable to resolve a pricing issues. The item was marked down without the SKU #.It took all 3 mgr’s over 30 min and my husband asked to call and speak with corp and have them direct them on how to resolve the issue.Per Diane corp. was closed. We checked after and they were not closed. We had other issues as well. Finally Diane said she would allow the item to be sold at the price that was marked as it was correct. The store Mgr. Mary was made aware of this & 3 other issues that we had on that visit. Upon returning the following day and speaking with Mary, it was very disappointing. She was defensive and her resolution was a $40 gift card. That is nice, however the store is 20 miles away and we had to make 2 trips.I explained to her as a customer the issue is the attitude and lack of skills that her Mgr’s have.I suggested that a retraining with dept. heads would be beneficial to the store. She wasn’t receptive. As a consumer who spent over $600 at Meijer’s I do not want to also spend hour’s of my time and gas to be aggravated with the store. We will no longer shop at any Meijer stores.I can only hope that after I made an official complaint with corp. they will address and remove employees as warranted.

I just read the comment left by Mindi from March 18th, 2014. Like her I have been shopping at Meijer for as long as I can remember. My mother use to take five children shopping at the original Meijer store in Standale (back in the 60’s) and she would spend over $100 and fill up three carts with groceries. Unlike Mindi I will not stop shopping at Meijer just because of one bad incident. One Meijer associate who was having a bad day should not be the reason that anyone would stop at Meijer. If she took the time to explain the situation to a store manager (perhaps the next day) I am confident he/she would have taken care of this customer. In closing if the money was so tight how could she afford to have a cell phone to call from the parking lot? How much additional money would this customer have in her budget if she didn’t feel the need to have a cell phone just to live beyond her means and how did her parents/grandparents ever live without having said phone?

I have shopped Meijer stores for as long as I can remember and I have never been treated this badly as I was treated tonight. I am very disappointed and upset with the customer service I received when I went to return two cards so that I could put gas in my car to get to work this week. Instead of friendly service, I was treated by a woman who was very rude, kept interrupting me, with a short fuse and even worse attitude. Instead of helping me, she was impatient and confrontational. I called the store manager from the parking lot and was assured that the situation would be taken care of if I went back in. It wasn’t and so now I have to wait for two to three days for $9.52 to be put back into my bank account. There is a possibility of losing my job because of this. And I used my bank card. But since I had to use it like a credit card (because using the card as a debit I get charged a service fee), I couldn’t get cash back. Really? Over $9.52?! That is the most absolutely absurd thing I have ever heard of in my life. I hardly ever return anything, but this is ridiculous. Meijer needs to change their policy on this. I work hard and I am an honest person. No one should ever be treated this way. I have half a mind to tell everyone and anyone to not shop at the Meijer on Plainfield because of their rude customer service.

Its not a meijer policy idiot. Its a policy put in place by the card companies . Meijer is unable to override them. When u run a card as credit whether its a debit card or not , you are basically saying you are borrowing money. That’s what credit is. You could have taken a in store credit and got gas. You’re just being stupid and annoying.

I wanted to inform you of how happy I am with this store. Tonight we went into the store to purchase groceries and supplies for our new office. During our visit, we were blown away by the great service we received. We asked for assistance in purchasing 2 desks and 3 bookshelves. We were immediately assisted by a gentleman (whom I am regretful that we do not remember his name but was working in furniture/housewares around 8pm-although it may be John or Paul because when I called to get who was working, those were the two people that were working) who helped us load the items, waited for us while we got a credit approval, checked out and he loaded our car. He was extremely friendly, helpful and engaging. The cashier (who was on the lane with 12 items or fewer at the grocery end of the store at approximately 8:30pm) was also extremely friendly, helpful and efficient. Her name was Brittany. We just wanted you to know that you have a clean, efficient, friendly store and hope these employees get recognition for their superior work! We will continue to be loyal Meijer shoppers. (And Sandy is a great bonus for our 1 and 2 year old)! Thank you Meijer for a great shopping experience!

This morning (Wednesday, March 5, 2014) I shopped at the Meijer store on East 96th Street in Fishers, Indiana. I want to compliment and thank the most gracious cashier I’ve ever encountered. Her name is Joanne and her terminal number is 18.
When she asked if I had found everything I needed, I confessed that there were a couple of things I hadn’t found. She not only assured me that those items were available, but that she had tried them herself and found them to be “delicious.” She then escorted me to the exact location, where I not only found what I was looking for, but found a couple of other things I had previously missed, as well.
Because of Joanne, I doubled the amount of money I was about to spend at Meijer and reaffirmed that this store would always be my first choice for grocery and household, etc. shopping.
She was so helpful, friendly, professional and courteous that I wanted to take the opportunity to call to your attention and outstanding employee!

On Saturday March 1st around 10:30 a.m. I went to Meijer on South Hurstborne Parkway in Louisville, Kentucky to do my weekly grocery shopping. Due to an impending snowstorm expected to hit our area on Sunday afternoon, the store was very busy. After shopping in the produce section I went on the meat section where I approached the butcher counter to get the next item on my list which was Fresh Catfish Fillets. There was nothing between the butcher and I but the glass case which housed the fish and other meat. I stood at the counter for about two minutes and the butcher on the other side stared at me and never said a word. The other butchers in the store were in the work area tending to and packaging meat. The wait was uncomfortable but I didn’t say anything and the butcher across the counter never said one thing to me. After about 2 minutes another butcher came and waited on me. The man who did wait on me apologized for my wait. I said no problem and then walked on to the packaged meat selection to purchase a Beef Brisket. By this time the butcher who waited on me was restocking meat into the coolers in the outer portion of the meat department. From there the first butcher came from behind the counter and shouted very loudly. “The Mexicans are going back to Mexico. Obama has (f’d, he actually used the word) up this country so bad that the Mexicans are going back to Mexico” Everyone one who was shopping in the section made an audible gasp. Another patron yelled at him (She happened to be as I later found out is of Hispanic decent). I then ask the butcher what was wrong and he repeated the same racist comment. After I picked my mouth up off of the floor and gathered myself the other customer and myself proceeded to the customer service counter and asked to speak with Mr. John Dillon the Store Manager. We explained everything which happened to Mr. Dillon. He asked us the butchers name and we responded his name is “Brook”. The manager then told us he couldn’t tell us what would be done other than he would take care of it. I told him I appreciate whatever he was going to do but I don’t ever want to see Mr. Brook s working there again. I also told Mr. Dillon I would be reporting this incident to the Meijer Corporate Office. I don’t know what ended up happening but I did see Mr. Dillon walking towards the butcher shop and I did hear Brooks’ name being called over the loud speaker.
I have several additional comments:
a) Brooks’ co-workers never told him to stop talking that way or went in a direction to find a manager. Which leads me to believe it was common for him to talk this way.
b) Brooks’ is a danger to society when he is working with meat cutters and knives. He should not be allowed to continue to work there.
c) I live directly across the street from Meijer and I shop there at least several times a week. I find it disconcerting to think there is someone as angry and potentially violet working in a family atmosphere.
d) Prior to this experience every experience I have ever had at Meijer has been a wonderful. However, this one experience will forever be itched in my mind.
Immediate action needs to be taken.

Dear Mr. Meijer:
I am envisioning several men, leaning back in their high back leather chairs, around an oval mahogany table, smoking cigars while brainstorming how they can make morons out of the consumer’s shopping at their Meijer stores. Through all the smoke in the air they came up with M-Perks, which is the most ridiculous program I ever saw implemented by a group of supposedly educated people. The only excuse for this program is that there was way too much smoke in the air, which undoubtedly clouded your thinking process.
Well folks, the smoke in the air got the best of you since many of us are not happy with the M-perk club. I for one DO NOT want to go on the Internet every time you text us to “Clip” the promotion that you want to lure us in with. In fact I resent it! Just for kicks and giggles I was telling my husband about that dumb a** program and challenged him to successfully try to pick up a prescription. He is about as illiterate as they get when it comes to computers. We went through the drive-thru at your Marketplace location in Rochester Hills. I sat in the passenger seat to observe the fun. They sent out the portable computer that you have to input all the data necessary to be a “Moron”-perk member picking up the prescription. He used a pen to input the data and kept messing it up. The employee suggested he use his finger. Each key hit would key in two letters at a time. I began to laugh since I could see the employee was getting impatient. The more the guy tried to help him from the window the funnier I thought it was. Finally, the employee asked me if I could PLEASE help him. I did, through laughter and was successful to the relief of the employee. I understand your date of birth for insurance purposes but the phone number, and password is asinine.
Please believe that I am not the only one who feels this way. I personally DO NOT go on the computer to “Clip” anything for Moron-perks. In fact I despise going on the computer to start with so I refuse to do it. My daughter signed me up. She knows my cell# and password so she clips what she wants and gets all the rewards for both her and I. It does however force me to input all the data necessary when I pick up a prescription, which is why I am seriously considering switching over to the Walmart drugstore as my prescriptions come up for renewal. Walmart’s is just as convenient as Meijers. If I need something while out, I will stop at a non-Meijer grocery store, usually Kroger where I use a simple Kroger card to get discounts.
This program is also not fair to those, mostly the elderly living only on social security, who can use these discounts, but don’t have a computer or know how to use one. On the other hand maybe you implemented this program purposely to save money on those folks. I recently commented on how I disliked your program to someone in the drugstore and she said if I had a smart phone it would be easier on me. Politely I responded that I was happy with my “Dumb Ass” phone and I would shoot myself before getting one so I could make my M-perk life easier.
As I was looking for administrative contact information I ran across forty-one Meijer related comments. Four were positive and thirty-seven were negative. If you’re interested, you can find those comments on http://www.corporateofficehq.com/meijer-corporate-office/ The only reason for this letter is that I feel it’s unfair to take out my frustrations out on the Meijer employees, I thought it only fair to let the rocket scientists know how I feel about their M-perk concept. Let me just add that there are many who will not take the time to complain as I just have but will simply stop shopping at Meijer and go where life is less complicated. Thank you for your time and I hope that you will consider discontinuing this program and issuing cards that other merchants offer for their promos. BTW, I plan to add this letter to the forty-one comments listed on the web site noted above as well.
Sincerely,
Bianka Hendren

I have a question about *meijer policy* I work with elite marketing. We got moved back by receiving. And the nearest outlet to plug in our tablet is in the receiving area. One lady said it’s a health violation. Just using a outlet to charge a tablet. Another guy said it’s against Meijer policy for elite to use outlets back there. I thought Meijer and elite marketing had a close understanding about each other and employees and managers being respectful? All my question is- is a against policy for me to use a outlet in receiving area. Been doing it for 2 months without a complaint till now. *blue shirts* thinking they run this shi*.

I love this story. Fred Meijer Mantra “Customers don’t need us we need them.” Now read this story.
GAYLORD — A retired mail carrier said he’s been fired from a job as a greeter at a Meijer in northern Michigan after rushing to the parking lot to put out a vehicle fire.
David Bowers, 62, said he grabbed a fire extinguisher when a customer entered a Meijer store in Gaylord last month pleading for help.
Grand Rapids–based Meijer won’t specifically comment on the matter, but said it has policies for dealing with an emergency.
“The one supervisor told me that my heart was in the right place, but my brain wasn’t,” Bowers told TV station WPBN-WTOM.
His wife, Lynn Bowers, said the couple decided to go public after receiving a cheery Christmas card from Meijer just a few days ago.
“I was furious. We couldn’t believe it,” she told The Associated Press on Friday, referring to the card. “It was the perfect job for him. He loves to talk.”
Parking-lot fire
Ken Kuzon needed to put out a fire in the glove box of his van on Nov. 14.
Bowers said he left the store and handed a fire extinguisher to Kuzon. The flames were out in seconds.
Bowers, who was paid $9.30 an hour, returned to his post greeting shoppers.
“My truck would’ve been completely burned,” Kuzon said. “I just think it’s ridiculous. Why should you be penalized for being a good Samaritan?”
Procedure
Meijer released a statement suggesting Bowers should not have dashed to the van.
“We have well-established safety procedures for emergency situations, and we train all team members on those procedures,” Meijer said. “These procedures help ensure the safety of everyone, both customers and team members, and our team members know there are consequences when they don’t follow them.”
“He’s very bummed out,” Lynn Bowers said. “It’s a split-second decision you make. He was never told there was a procedure for a car fire.”
Greeter
Bowers had worked at Meijer for about 4 years.
He and his wife delivered mail for years in the Detroit area, before retiring from the U.S. Postal Service and moving to northern Michigan.
Bowers once got in hot water for chasing a shoplifter, but otherwise had a good record at Meijer.
“If they offered me the job back, I would go back,” he said. “I know Meijer signs the paychecks, but my thought was I always worked for the people coming in and out those doors. It was similar to being a mailman. I took care of those customers.”

DO NOT ORDER FROM THIS COMPANY!!!! I ordered something for a Christmas present on the 1st of December, it is the 17th and still has not been put on a truck to be shipped to me. I disagree with the firing of an employee for leaving his post to help a customer’s van that was on fire. I realize you may have your reasons, but if I fell in front of your store and broke a leg , I would expect some help from your store employee, not just let me lie there in fear of his/her job.
I don’t think I need to go to your store any more if you fire an employee for helping a customer. Your policies have many of the cashiers so afraid of their jobs that they can not allow the use of coupons that a person in line gives to you. You are getting a bad reputation from your customer base. We have Kroger, Target plus other mom and pop stores in our area. You wont get a like on Facebook from me!

There wa a man recently fired from the Gaylord meijer (my local store) from leaving his post as a greeter. He left to put out a fire in a customer van. They fire him because they said its in their policy to not leave because you need to keep the customers and employees safety in my first. Seeing as that guy who’s can caught on fire was a customer and he left to put it out to help said customer why should he be fired? Now he’s out of a job and income because he did not only the right thing but had the customer In mind.

I agree with all the above comments. I sent a silent whistle complaint about moldy, outdated, walked over (because we have no room to walk in the back room) products & I get dragged into the director’s office by the grocery manager & bombarded by both of them about it, without actually telling me that’s what it was about, leaving no time to get my thoughts together, at all. I got asked why I don’t just quit then & if I’m such a great employee why I didn’t clean up gravy on the floor (that we can never get to because the entire backroom is overfilled with food) but no mention of how they might fix some of the serious issues or listening to some suggestions of process changes from me….who has management experience and works in the trenches, seeing the poor processes that cause the disaster day in & day out. Seriously! This was a silent whistle complaint, so much for keeping it quiet and so much for an “open door policy”. Yeah right! Also, why in the heck does it go to the director and not someone above him! He’s part of the problem that needs fixing. There is absolutely no forward thinking on the part of management. No wonder everyone’s morale is so low & hardly anyone actually works. I pleaded for help in my complaint. I’m wasn’t just complaining because I thinks it’s fun nor should any employee need to sob after being demoralized by the director. Just because people have to stay at a job doesn’t mean they can be treated like SH..! I WILL be taking this much further & much faster, if I continue to get treated like crap, like I did today. There are silent whistle posters all over the place but where does it state who I contact after the silent whistle didn’t work. Maybe the health department will help or the labor board???

I have contacted Meijer several times in Normal, IL to obtain a product and left my phone number for the manager and never received a return phone call. This isn’t very good customer service. Finally I did get an answer to an email and was told the product was not available, no mention of something that might be an alternative or possibly I could order it online. Just no it isn’t available. Very disappointing and if others are treated this way, I’m sure their business profits will reflect this lack of helpfulness. Very surprising for a big store like this – I will take my business elsewhere for sure.

I used be an employee long time ago. I am hearing complaints about this holiday season of the stores being open on thanksgiving. The other was no sign of Christian ornaments or books etc. funny how they consider Fred to be a Christian and a philanthropist. One thing I do want to point out for the holidays if the corporate office and the CEOs can have the holidays off why can’t your stores and employees have those days off too? If this all about making more money or beating you competition or trying to make a good year-end sales quota for bigger tax benefits then you are still losing more customers and employees despite the remodeling you are doing in your stores makes it no better. Hank if your anything like your dad I would give up the $14 billion dollars you make a year and give every one of your employees in your stores raises excluding your management teams. Oh one last thing, get rid of your union dues as well they have done nothing to help your business.

Reading this forum so far, has saddened me even more about a store that I was employed with years ago and have now returned working for. I returned because I thought Meijer’s still ran things the way Fred Meijer had been running it. Unfortunately that is not the case. I understand where Kelly is coming from and also the other comments that are being written.
The reason I went back being an employee at Meijer, was because of what I remembered as an Ethical Company, but now is looking like this is not the case, anymore. Thinking, with them still being a private run business, they would not bow to the pressure (like Walmart and other stores) of looking at the all mighty buck being more important than their customers and employees. I realize that they have to make a profit, but how high of a profit do they need, when it impedes the treatment of not only their consumers, but employees? The pay is bad, so the revolving door is spinning, with good employees not staying for the long haul.
They have this credit card pushing scenario, that makes the customers uncomfortable (they want to shop and be helped when needed, not have something that if they wanted they have the intelligence to ask about, not shoved down their throats while shopping). They have an employee walking around doing this credit card push, which also makes the employee uncomfortable doing, with customers upset not only with being stopped and interrupted by this, but having to feel bad about themselves because during these hard economic times, they might have lost their good credit standing at some point, which this brings up a bad association link of shopping at Meijer. Then you have the employee being told they have to make a quota of how many you must sign up, because they are competing with other stores for the most applied for. OMG! Really? Where are the Christian values in that? Where are the Ethical Standards? I have quit going to stores because I don’t like pushy sales people, I can think on my own, thank you! Don’t insult my intelligence or other peoples. People don’t like telemarketers for a reason, and I see no difference in them compared to what Meijer is doing with the credit card push.
I am also finding (only been back a few weeks) that with the cutting back of their employees (to save that almighty buck) that people are not getting the services they need. With overworked employees (most departments have “1” employee) taking on more than one department and trying to keep it stocked and then trying to help customers. Upsetting customers, because they cannot find someone to help them, because the employee is running around like a “chicken with its head cut off”, going to the back and bringing out stock, stocking the shelves and trying to find things for the customer, answering questions of customers, and then being told by a line leader that they need to get things stocked and that they are getting complaints from customers that there was nobody to help them. And what is the line leader doing? Walking around, looking important and making the employees discouraged about their jobs and job performance. Maybe the line leader could help? (Just a suggestion.)
All in all, this is a sad reality, I was so hoping I was going to go back and work for a highly ethical company again, like I remembered working for in the past. Guess I will keep looking for that ultimate ethical employer, which now is looking like a pipe dream. When there are “no ethics” there are “no loyalties”.

Over the Summer months I worked at your Sandusky, Ohio store #142. When I was hired I was told what a friendly, family oriented store it was. I soon found out that was NOT the case, and from the comments from above, this isn’t the only store with this problem! The store manager and team leaders need a lesson on courtesy and treating people decent! They have meetings about how to be friendly to customers when the majority of them wouldn’t even acknowledge their employees as they pass them in the store! ( I have heard this from customers as well). Then to top it off….they like to eat in the lunch room disregarding any employee in the room…..where at one point I heard the store manager, Edna, talking about a fellow employee in a negative manner! I felt this was very unprofessional and un-called for!! If you want to help this store’s business…I suggest doing some house cleaning!! If your managers can’t treat your employees well….how do you think they will treat your customers!!

After discussing this wit other taem membes here and at other locations, it has come to light that its because he spends most days at the Mt Pleasant location for lunch and every day he is there aboout 330pm.
After talking with several team members that work both locations, we now know its because he has been having an affair with a team member at Mt Pleasant. One who is married and has young children.
This feels to rest of us as preferential status.
Not only is it wrong to put us after Mt Pleasant, but for him to persue a fellow team member with a family is appauling.

OK, a Meijers is suppose to come to Manistee and that’s great because a lot of people shop in Ludington, prices are LOWER. Why, are the weekly adds not being put in the weekend newspaper? If you want to bring a store into another town, DON”T discontinue the add. If they are going down to the Detroit area, aren’t they bankrupt? You have older people here that do not have computers but like to save $$$$ on groceries and every little bit helps. OK, that’s it for now.

I’m curious to know why store 125 Illinois road has two elderly woman in electronics as full time employees. Neither of them can ever provide me with any information I need on electronics, they tell me to wait why they fetch either Sam or Nathan. Why waste my time and your customers time by having these women as the bulk of your photo/electronics area? The one woman, Kapi I believe, has mixed up our orders constantly and has provided us wrong information countless times. Every time I go in she either is just standing there or she runs and hides. It’s a shame because the other workers are so extremely helpful there. I’ve never been disappointed by either of them. It’s to the point where I only go there when one of the guys is working but I’m told they are only part time which makes it evening difficult to get help. I constantly ask them if they plan to ever be here more often and one of them tells me he wants full time but they only have full time spots for these two elderly ladies. Isn’t that counter productive for your business? Why not move these ladies to a department where they can actually assist someone? Why waste my time and other people’s time like this? You really need to reevaluate this and I plan to continue to go to corporate about this until you get actual people back there who can assist me like Sam and Nathan.

We shop at the Big Rapids, MI store and lately we have run into the problem of not enough Handicap parking and almost never any working electric carts. The worse day was we had just come back from cancer center where my husband (a retired employee) needed meds and it was pay week so needed to do a bit of shopping. He has had to put off hip surgery due to his cancer and relys on a cane and walker and I also have severe arthritis so we needed 2 carts. None were available they either were charging or in use. Ones that came back needed charging. Finally one was available (nearly 1/2 hr. wait) so I let him go get the items he needed and waited for another. I finally got one after more than a 45 min. wait and then I did not get all my things done before battery dies. This store is in an area where there are many seniors. More carts are needed. I spoke to the manager and he took note. Previously we sent in comments about it and 6 weeks later it has been same problem every time we shop. Chis the manager there was very apologetic and was not aware the problem exits. Please for the sake of the seniors that shop there get more carts. Hopefully we will not need the use of any of them by the fall.

Hi, I just wanted to say how disappointed I am that Meijer stopped doubling coupons my family and I have shopped in your store for many years and one of the reasons was the double coupons. When using the coupons I would purchase more than I planned so that I was spending more in the store than I would have because the coupons doubled. I feel by not doubling the coupons you are losing more customers and business most people will buy more if they feel that they are saving. Now I can go to any other store and spend my money because they dont double either. At these times in the economy it was a very nice feature for customers. It would be nice if you reconsidered the policy I feel that it would help your business greatly and I am not the only one that feels that way. I now go to other stores that are closer to my home because I can get the same prices and food anywhere. If possible please reconsider this coupon policy it would be a great asset to your business.

We have a Meijer platinum credit card. Through the years we have faithfully paid our balances off on that card. Last month we took that card to the holy land in Israel. Because we were going overseas, we called Meijer and have them reduce the ceiling amount we could put on the card for safety reasons. Now that we have returned to the United States, we would like to have the higher ceiling amount back on our platinum credit card so we can charge more on that card. We called the department that handles the Meijer credit card and they told us NO, we cannot put the old ceiling amount on the card. We were very faithful customers of the Meijer stores, but it seems like they want to play games and really put us between a rock and a hard place. We feel very disgruntled to the fact that Meijer refuses to put things back the way it was before we took the trip! (A higher ceiling)

The company I have my truck leased to comes here everyday just not me as a driver. I have been talked down to—treated like a second class citizen— had my corporate office called when after 4 hours of waiting spending money of fuel to run the truck I asked why and was told because “THATS THE WAY IT IS” as though these people are gods. Basically treated like a dog SIT—-STAY—good boy. No other grocery warehouse has done this bad, and I’ve been to almost all of them. The contempt shown towards drivers is unbelievable–does not ANYONE realize that some drivers have an education–are retired from other careers (I am a retired collection agent). Well my family on avg. spends $200–250 a week in meijers stores NEVER again will that happen.

I recently terminated my employment at Meijer’s store 125 in Fort Wayne, Indiana.
I worked for Meijers for 6 years, doing the best job I could considering the garbage I had to put up with in that store. I came in everyday on time, rarely took time of and was very good at my job on the pricing team. Unfortunately the disrespect and arrogance of the management of that store made the job almost unbearable. You people talk of how much you respect and value your team members but there is very little sign of that at this store.
If the moral at 125 was any lower it would have to get better first.
In 6 years I have never asked for a holiday off but when I asked for the day before and the day of memorial day off , I first had to listen to my new team leader, Roxie
Hissong complain that she never had a holiday off, that is her problem not mine.
We were told before she came that it was up to us whether we wanted to take a holiday off or work it, I always worked it when I could.
When I told our Lines Leader Steve Jordon that I had asked for these days off he became rude and told me that I was already off for the holiday but could not have the sunday before off because of setting the sunday ad. However, he had just let another member of the pricing team have 2 weekends off in a row as part of her vacation without any regard for the ad on those 2 sundays. In the past we were allowed days of according to who put in for them first but Mr Jordan is now telling me that he is going by senority, something he never said to any of us. When I reminded him of this he became arrogant and rude.
I reminded him that if he is going strickly by the book as to how we do things in this store, then I would like to know why another member of our team, Gailen Bender, is allowed to take days of during blackout days. I also asked him why ms Bender, who is a PIA is allowed to work as a APC in home? She was an IA but took the job as a PIA when she thought she was going to get her hours cut, but did not want to do the job of PIA so our team leaders before Roxie allowed her to start helping as a APC when she got her scanning done but it got to the point where she was no longer scanning and correcting at all. That is not fair to the rest of us who are expected to do our jobs. The PIA job pays more and gives that person every weekend off yet she does not do that job. The company is paying her to do a higher paying job but she goes off and does what she wants to do which pays less and is expected to work weekends. She reaps the benefits of one position but does another. The other PIA, Barb Galmeyer doesn’t do the job at all let alone correctly. She treats the position as a social event, but no one seems to care.
She has been caught several times polishing her nails in the systems office on the clock,
pays her bills on the clock and eats her breakfast every morning in the systems office on the clock. We have complained about this to management many times but no one cares.
However if I ask for a day off all Hell breaks loose.
Mr. Jordan told me that if I did not like it there that I could leave and that he would be glad to help with the process. I told him that tells me all I need to know about how much I am valued at this sorry excuse of a company. This is why moral is so low at this store. I am sure that know one at corporate cares about any of this but I just thought I would let you know what kind of store you have.
The only sure thing at Meijer has nothing to do with your so called core values, you have none except your undivided respect and greed for money. You seem to have forgotten that without the lowly teammember your arrogant lines leaders and team leaders would have nothing to do. You also need to hire store directors that actually have a brain. I am sorry if I wasted any on your precious time reading this, if you did it at all.
Have a great day, I know I will knowing I will never have to put up with Meijer store stupidity again!

I am very disappointed and frankly shocked about your policy to change your rewards program from 20% off groceries to your standard (offered to anyone on MPerks) 15% off
GM and 5% off of groceries. Where is the incentive to use your credit card? It no longer exists so why should I use your card? There are many credit cards out there that offer much better incentives. I have been a very loyal customer in both your store and in using your credit card for many many years. More importantly to you is that I spend thousands of dollars in your store and charge even more dollars on your credit card. I realize that you are in business to make a profit but this decision may cause you to lose alot of customers and unless you offer something better that what you give everyone else you will be losing me too. I was wondering who to contact about the possible new building site in manistee. I know that you have purchased the Parkdale block building, and was wondering if it were possible to clean up some of the left over blocks before the possible building of the new store. Please contact me and lwt me know who I should contact. Thanks for your time

In response to your change from 20% to 5%. Upon receiving notice of this a month or 2 ago, I still get angry walking into the store. Going from 20% down to 5% is outrageous to put it mildly. There are more lucrative cards for sure and closer and more convenient stores. So disappointing.

My 77 yr.old mother in law Betty Creg from Fern Creek Ky. was shopping in your Hurstbourne store when 3 items were taken off the bill ( 2 cake mixes and a cooking oil ) but were not taken out of the cart because her husband already walked to the car and she was into her coupons to remember to take them out. She paid the 80 dollars and for the 7 dollars of the 3 items she was taken back in the office and yelled at and said she was a thief! Told she has to pay a $250 fine and on probation. NEVER stole a thing in her life and have spent thousands of dollars at your store since it opened. Common Sense took a back seat for 2 cake mixes and oil. She will never step foot in a Meijers again and she is afraid of the terrible 2 managers that were mean to her and she was shaking and just shut down. Shame on that store. The new cashier never said oh we have to take those 3 items out so Betty forgot also. A Innocent senior citizen. No record EVER! All major shopping her and her husband have done there since that store opened how foolish. My question is will the store take the high road and apologize to Betty Creg? Wonderful Mom, Granda & Great Grandma and a wonderful citizen. Again people Common Sense has to be used.

The charges on Betty Creg were dropped as they should have been. Betty’s daughter talked directly to Molly at corporate and Molly said that should have NEVER happened. Now I hope the company sends Betty an apology for the embarrassment that her and her husband have endured and the sleepless nights. Also the manager that did this needs to be talked to about some common sense. Thank you, Lisa Creg

This letter is for corporate but I hope the public will get to see it I was working at the Meijer store in mi 12 mile and mound road I worked with a terrible staff of managers that treat the employees like XXXXX I was on my period and wanted to go and clean myself up and was not allowed to go and do that was told to stay at register or go home I need my job not only that but im on disability so I can only work so many hours a week they continue to schedule me at more hours than I am suppose to work …somebody please retrain these moron managers at this place but that’s not the worst part I was told by a manager … Maralyn quote if I knew you had a disability I never would have hired you …yeah that’s right she told me “quote” ..If I knew you had a disability “I never would have hired you” unquote needless to say apparently Meijers seems to have an issue or problem with disability or with people on disability .And this is not the end of this issue. If when as employees has an issue or concern and you can’t talk to your manager or assistant manager what else are we suppose to do or whoi else can we talk to… we are PEOPLE NOT ROBOTS…….
