Jackson Hewitt began in 1982 when a group of investors bought 6 Mel Jackson’s Tax Service locations.

The company grew slowly until 1986 when they began to franchise.  By 1987, they had added 22 new offices.

In 1989, the company partners with Montgomery Ward to open branch locations inside their stores.

In 1992, the company goes public.  jh 4

In 1994, the company partners with WalMart to begin opening branches inside WalMart and Sam’s Club stores.

jh 3

In 1996, John Hewitt leaves the company and is replaced as CEO by Keith Alessi.

In 1998, the company is purchased by the Cendant Corporation.

By 1999, there were 3,000 locations.

On April 3, 2007, the US Justice Department announced that the federal government had filed civil injunction suits alleging tax fraud by five corporations owned or partly owned by Farrukh Sohail, a franchisor. On September 28, 2007, the Department of Justice announced that it had reached settlements with each of the defendants in the case. Under the settlement agreements, the majority owner, Farrukh Sohail, of each of the businesses was to be barred from preparing tax returns for five years, and approximately fifteen of Sohail’s employees were permanently banned from preparing taxes other than their own. Jackson Hewitt states that an internal audit showed that none of their corporate employees knew about the scam which led to the filing by the Justice Department.

In 2011, the company was taken off the NYSE after defaulting on its debt.  The company eventually filed bankruptcy and emerged as a private company.

CNet offered an unflattering online review stating that Jackson Hewitt’s low filing fee is attractive but that the bare-bones software leaves something to be desired.

Today, Jackson Hewitt is the 3rd largest tax preparation service in the US.  The company operates over 6,800 locations.

I filed my 2018 tax return with Jackson Hewitt. For the past 3 days I’ve been trying to access my documents through jacksonhewitt.com but I’m not able to. Every time i call customer service they give me a 24-48 hr time frame. I haven’t got a call from them till date and its crazy i cant access my own documents. I’m never going to file with JH again and i’ll make sure that i tell ALL my family and friends to no longer file with them.

I want to know why my taxes were sent to irs this year when I have not done my taxes yet. I have not signed or even been in the office but yet they done them. I believe that is fraud. How can you let one of your stores do such a thing. I have contacted them but yet get ignored so I will be contacting a attorney and the media for this. I am beyond mad getting ignored like am nothing to y’all. I need someone to contact me today because tomorrow morning I will be contacting other people regarding the store’s incompetence. Please give me a call so this can be resolved. Thanks

Hey did you get anywhere with this? I’ve never sued anyone before but they cost me $1000 misprepared my taxes and filed without showing me or informing me until after it was submitted. Then tried to charge me a fee equally my entire refund. Now I have to amend my return and i want my fee refunded but they give me nothing but runaround, rude, hanging up on me, etc. I am going to sue them! And report to IRS.
      Ridiculous

They will not honor tax guarantee that I paid for. I filed with them for the tax year 2017 and bought the guarantee. They had the paper work I signed filled out correctly. They had all my w2s. There was an error discovered by the irs showing all w2s were not submitted in the system. Record also shows where my email address was inputted as my home address. There is obvious neglect showed on several areas of the form. I now owe the irs over 2000 dollars due to their failure tio input the proper information. I have made several attempts to get them to honor their guarantee and they refuse to acknowledge mistakes or honor guarantee. Now, I cant even use my financial aid for school due to their input errors they refuse to fix.

I made an appointment to have my taxes done my first and last time and had an awful experience. I hope after someone or many people read this before they choose to go to them. I’ll begin my horrible story thank you for taking your time and reading it’s well worth it. So I went to Walmart in a little corner desk, right there I should of walked away it’s not an office. So I asked the lady how long she was with them she puased then said 2 years. I have a wife and 4 kids under 10 . As I was doing my paper work I explained my wife has student loans in defualt so there going to take our taxes. And me knowing to file injured spouse , instead I played dumb and asked what was the best way she thought . She told me oh it’ll be fine you won’t get anything taking if you just file head of house hold. PUASE !!!! RIGHT THERE LADY BACK UP !?!? she said she worked there for two years ok back to the story . I said what about injured spouse she said yes that would help out also. I said ok let’s do that. Now these are my wife’s kids we got married and been for 3 years living together no contact with real dads. So she said I’ll need your wife to write a note saying your allowed to file the kids. Thought that was wierd but she been there for 2 years I trusted her so I got my wife to write a note. So tax lady said ok would your wife like me to file hers with yours I said yes as injured spouse married filling jointly . Had my driver’s licence but had my dad’s address from living there 2 years before but had a temporary card with my address for 2017 2018 told me well I’ll use address on drivers license and head of house hold . I said um NO that’s my dad’s address he lives alone and head of house hold and if you really worked her for two years you would know you cant file injured spouse and head of house and jointly I said use my address I live at she said ok and ended up not changing it and used my dad’s and did it her own way after i Signed the papers. I asked how much it would be for them to do everything and she told me $275 then said after discounts and first time there it $225 I said okay let’s file them. I left she called said come up grabbed your papers I’m done . I got there she SAID AFTER aLL said aND DOnE IT COST YOU $580 . I was like what the **** why you told me $225 no more so I was really ****** and regret I ever went there. SOOOOO NOW THE GOOD PART GUYS YOU READY YOU MIGHT WANT TO SIT DOWN FOR THIS Jackson Hewitt called me September and asked if they still wanted me to file my wife’s taxes. I was speechless , I SAID UM YEAH WHAT THAT THE DO YOU MEAN THEN I SAID FROM MY UNDERSTANDING THE LADY FILE MY TAXES AS MARRIED FILING JOINTLY AND INJURED SPOUSE AND ME WITH THE KIDS AND HERS AD INJURED SPOUSE. HE SAID NO THEY FILE THEM MARRIED FILING SEPARATELY WITH YOUR DADS ADDRESS YOU AND YOUR KIDS BY YOUR SELFS AND WE DIDNT FILE YOUR WIFES BUT WE WONT CHARGE YOU THIS TIME . I SAID YOU BETTER NOT CHARGE ME. THEY FILED MY WIFES CALLED ME 2 WEEKS LATER SAID WELL YOU OWE $660 TO FEDERAL AFTER THE FIRST TIME THEY FILE WHEN IN JANUARY I DIDNT OWE ANYTHING TO STATE OR FED and now we do. There’s my story thanks for listening and i really hope they lose some customers. Even a couple would make me happy I give them zero stars……

Got an unsolicited snail mailing from these people today. I am on a DO NOT MAIL list…I have NEVER used these people to do my taxes in my entire life- I am now a senior.

I go to a place that does taxes for poor people because I have no money & wouldn’t pay anybody $500 to do my taxes that have NO deductbles.

I called the main local office in Omaha Nebraska & was told they don’t have any idea where the parent company is located because they bought a franchise from Jackson Hewitt–that answer does not build confidence in the company.

Called my local library in Omaha to find at least a postal mailing address–hope this one is correct. They only want contact by Facebook or Twitter—I DO NOT HAVE ANY OF THOSE STUPID WEBSITES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Be careful of these big corporate tax companies–they only want your money.

My friend Henry Garbo went to Jackson Hewitt to have his taxes prepared. Henry is a retired Veteran with the beginning stages of Alzheimer’s. His taxes are very simple, only income is Social Security and his pension, no deductions to speak of. Jackson Hewitt took complete advantage of this poor person and charged him $350.00 for a very basic return. They should be ashamed of themselves but I know they don’t for they have no soul, they are the devil, worse than Trump! Anyone that would take advantage of a down and out veteran with Alzheimer’s would screw their own mother for a buck. I would warn anyone to not patronize this poor excuse of a company. I will be helping my friend Henry to file a complaint with the Attorney Generals office here in Missouri.

So when I originally came to file I told the tax preparer that I had a $50.00 off for 2018 due to the debit card issues from the previous year. She didn’t add it on told me to bring it back when I amend. Well I did and was just told I couldn’t use it after she told me I would only pay 80 dollars well I ended up paying 123 and not being able to use the $50.00. I’m pissed and will not be returning this needs to be fixed.

I will never go to a Jackson Hewitt office again. We went in to get our taxes done and I have a medical issue with my bladder. The lady wouldn’t let me use the bathroom even though we are paying customers. I ended up walking in the rain, in the middle of the freaking ghetto to try and find a bathroom. Which never happened. I ended up peeing my pants. Never again

I’m very disappointed with the service I have gotten in the last few years at Jackson Hewitt. This year my state taxes are in limbo somewhere because of a glitch in the system that nobody knows how to correct. It’s sad I pay so much money to have my taxes done and all my friends are getting theirs back before me and they’ve done them free online themselves. I’ve been with Jackson Hewitt for eight years looks like I’ll be doing my own from now on

The office closest to where I live isn’t open due to staffing issues. I needed to get a copy of my W-2 that I had misplaced. (full ownership) HOWEVER I did not realize just how hard it would be to find another office that was first open and second willing to help me. After endless phone calls, I finally found an office about 22 miles from my home that said they would help me. The lady that answered asked for my SS # 4 times and my name 3 times and what I needed several times, she finally got it written down. I went to get the form and upon driving all the way to the office walked in and was not acknowledged for 20 minutes, even though several tax consultants looked at me. I have used Jackson Hewitt for 6 years, this year I will not. I am very unhappy with the lack of customer service and even more with the you don’t matter attitude.

I was audited by the IRS in 2018 about my 2015 taxes that were prepared by Jackson Hewitt. I learned that the tax preparer at the company checked a box on form IT-272 that I was an Undergraduate student . For that I received a credit of $400.00 to which I was not entitled. It was inaccurate for the prepare to check that box , especially after I submitted a 1098-T form which clearly showed that I was a Graduate student at the time.
I brought the matter to the attention of The Manager at the Gerard office in the Bronx and to Customer Care where I was given the runaround about $86.11 in penalties and Interest charges as well as them not honoring their Audit Guarantee as Advertised “100% Accuracy or we Pay policy on their website.
This is false advertisement and I are now taking my complaint to channel 12 news and Channel 7 .

Horrible company, horrible supervisors, no way to contact the corporate offices. Age discrimination rampant, disabilities ignored, supervisors with no ability to supervise. Terrible company, these people make trainees cheat on tests to pass. No one learns in the tp classes, we are given the answers to questions without explainations. Tried to email, it failed. Email to corporate offices not valid. Tried to call, put on hold for over 30 minutes. This company cares nothing for it’s employees, and even less for it’s customers.

Hello everyone, do not get your taxes done by them. I did my taxes at a Walmart location on Feb. 15th 2018. My federal came in but my State didn’t. I then got a letter from the state saying that the information was wrong. So I sent everything in. I called the State and they said everything is good and that it should be sent to the people that did my taxes. I called the customer service line so I can figure out where my check is since the Walmart location is closed and they told me to call the San Bernardino office. I called 3 days straight and no one called me back. Then I called the customer service line again and they made a case and said they will leave a message to the district manager and to give him 48 hours to respond. After those 48 hours were up I called the customer service line again. They said that he tried to call me but got no response. Which makes no since because I didn’t receive any or even a voice mail. I did receive a email saying my check was printed but it didn’t say I could pick it up or where it was printed out. When I called the customer service line again they said they are going to leave him another message and he should call me later today. I called them 3 hours later and they said they can’t do anything. I told them that they are holding my check, that it was my money and that I had already paid for their services. Then I asked for their corporate office that handles legal work and she tried to give me the number to the office that my check is supposed to be at. I told her not that is not the address I want and reminded her that the line is being recorded and if she tries to give me a false address again I will till then when I sue them. Then she said oh ok and gave me an address in New Jersey. Can I sue? I still haven’t gotten my check.

JH made a mistake on our 2016 taxes. The preparer showed it to her supervisor who okayed it. The IRS sent us a letter stating we owed over $6,000! JH preparer did an amended return and we paid what we owed. IRS sent us a 2nd letter saying we owe $136 more. Received a letter from JH Gold Guarantee saying they need more doXXXXentation and closed our claim without advising what they need! Called yesterday and had to leave a voice mail. I have had no response. I see where this is headed. I will NOT back down. You made the error now you need to honor your “Gold Guarantee!”

I never recieved my state taxes which I found out Jackson Hewitt took. So after talking to them, the state, the IRS, the bank they go through, and the people at the American Express someone put my information in wrong and no one wants to take responsibility for it. My cash advance was tooken out of my federal but they are keeping my state for it? On top of all this I paid for the extra protection which I now know is a con because I dont have any protection. I just wanted my state taxes back and a refund but the blame game is going on. I’ve been doing taxea here for 5 years and have referred many people but honestly this is bull$#!!. Oh and the tax advance I got wasnt what they are saying it is. This needs to be fixed or I am tearing into a company. Its not the fact Im getting the run around its the fact that even with all I have paid to protect me from idiots they wont do anything.

So apparently Jackson hewitt let’s criminals partner with them. So I signed up with america’s tax office first right, they took $1,099 dollars from me I have the receipt to prove it incase they try to lie. I never got any products and almost didn’t get my money back but finally i did. So then I signed up with national tax office, if you look under brandy conrad on linkedin you’ll be able to see and verify what i’m talking about. So any way i paid her $599 still havent got that money back she had her firm name national tax office in the preparer area not the ero. she had my ptin not hers. she had no ein anywhere on there. Why? because she don’t have one she’s a fraud not an ero she’s only taken the after test. She’s not legit, and she better hope i get my money back and that she don’t screw with my aunts refund i filed through her company because i have no issues suing nto. If americas tax office can put my money back in my bank in 1 day she can to. she thinks it’s a joke but the irs has been notified and i’m prepared to go all the way as far as shutting jackson hewitt down if i have to this is my money and she’s defrauding people.

We got check for our refund but we asked for a partial for what our taxes cost to have done and she agreed. It wasn’t policy to do 2 taxes at the same time. Our tax preparer was Nicole Ingram and a number our pack is #50809 and our names are James H. & Sandra Y. Hinton. Since I got disrespected the way me and my wife did and not receive our partial refund for the charges. Now I’m asking for a full refund or I am going to go to BBB and report Then I’m going to see what legal actions I can take. Kimberley the Manager told me and my wife we would receive this in 2 weeks and it’s been over 2 months still nothing. She will not take our calls and when she does she says she can’t talk right now I have to call you back, but she never does.

    Sincerely,

    James and Sandra Hinton

After using Jackson hewitt for more than 10 years taking the standard deductions , the preparer recommended I itemize for my 2015 return. I said several times that I had no doXXXXents or receipts. She assured me I wouldnt need it so I agreed. I was then audited for this return and owe $1700. When I contacted an area manager , Steve , in Baton Rouge , he said that I signed so it’s my problem. I know legally I have to pay this , but ethically , JH should take responsibility. Will never go back and have taken others away with me.

The lady that done my moms taxes through jackson hewitt for years, she used to take mine when i first started working to her house and do them, and she would let my mom claim my son instead of me. But i’m done with the whole money thing, i will have jackson hewitt, nto, and america’s tax office all shut down if i have to.

Hostile Work Environment and age Discrimination.
My name is Anna Janice I was an employee for Jackson Hewitt In South Mississippi.
Office number 10801 Jackson Hewitt 2510 Pass Road, Gulfport Ms. I would like to tell you what happened to me as I was employed with Jackson Hewitt.
I started training with Jackson Hewitt in November of 2017; I received very little training most of what I learned was on my own. I was put on payroll on December 18th 2017 , when the advance loan on your tax refund started. I told Vicki Frasier, the Manager of the office, that I did not feel ready to start doing taxes; her response to me was “Yes you are going to mess up bad, but that will be Ok”. I thought to myself how messing up someone taxes can be Ok.
, I worked at the Pass Road JH office from Dec 18-29, from that time period these are the problems that occurred : My notes on profiler never did work, I told Vicki Frasier about this and answer was to hand write my notes on a piece of paper and scan them in, that was a problem also because you see my scanner never worked as well, so I took it upon myself just to add notes and copies of ID’s and SS cards to the paper folder of the customers . When I would ask Vickie Frasier about my scanner she again told me “It will Be Ok.” I could never ask anything about a problem I would have doing taxes, she was always annoyed. I did manage to do my job with the little knowledge of taxes and teaching myself as I worked my job. For that period of time I did 48 returns.
On Jan 2nd Barbara Pierce moved me to Jackson Hewitt office at Wall Mart in Pass Christian, store #55079. Barbara told me that I was not allowed to make overtime, so if the store was slow I could leave 45 minutes to one hour early and I could not work weekends. When I was at the Walmart location, I had made my little office very organized and clean, I handed out my brochures on the products and services that Jackson Hewitt had to offer our customers. During the slow period at the store I would study taxes. Again there were still problems with the profiler notes, I told Ms. Barbara about it but nothing was done.
On Jan 29th, Ms. Barbara moved me out of the Walmart location Just as employees at Walmart were getting their W2’s , I asked her why she was moving me and she told me I needed more training and to pick up my speed. Vicki Frasier told me my hours would be from 1pm to 9pm. When I asked her why these hours? She told me “That is when she needed me the most” please remember what she just said, (That’s when she needed me the most).
So I went back to work on Pass Road office #10801 I clocked in at 1:00 pm. Again I ran into the same problems as before, scanner not working and profile notes not working, again I told Vicki about this and still nothing was done. That day I filed and did 4 returns, I also did accepted from IRS and Rejects from IRS. I asked Vickie Frasier to please show me how to estimate a refund without doing it on the computer; she told me I did not need to know how to do this. (I thought I was there to learn).
I returned to work the next day Jan 30th again I had the same problems with the scanner and notes, plus my printer ran out of ink and there was no ink replacement for my printer. So Vicki moved me into Ms. Barbara Pierce office. At least the scanner worked but not the notes. I did six returns that day, my speed was picking up and I was teaching myself a lot about taxes on my own. I filed acceptance and rejects. I asked Vicki how I was doing and she told me I was doing fine, my filing was good and my speed was picking up. She left at 8:30 and I closed the office at 9:00 pm. I felt confident in my work.
I returned to work on the 31st again other than notes not working on profiler, everything went fine. The office was slow so again I only did 6 returns. Also Vicki left at 8:00 pm and I closed at 9:00 pm.
On the 1st of Feb I returned to work at 1:00 pm, before I even got to clock in Vicki Frasier starts to yell at me in front of the receptionist and customers in the lobby, she yelled at me for not filing right and not scanning, told me she did not want me there at all. I clocked in and went to help the next customer and the receptionist Tanya told me “I don’t want to start any trouble but you cannot do any returns that has Vicki name on the file”. State tax had open up that day and she refused to teach me how to do that, and refused me to help any customers.
I found this strange because Mon, Tue, and Wed. my work was fine, then on Thurs. everything was wrong and I wasn’t allowed to touch anything. I sat at my desk for three hours not helping anyone, when someone approached me Vicki rushed out of her office and told them would have to wait for her or come back later.
At 2:00 pm Vicki Frasier’s Husband walks in, “in his uniform” he sits in the lobby and stares at the customers and employees as if he expects trouble. This makes me uneasy. After three hours of this and the husband staring at me, I had all I could take. I went to the receptionist, told her to clock me out because I was at the point of speaking my mind and if the situation continued I would have need medical assistance due to my blood pressure. I now understand why five other Jackson Hewitt employees lost their job the same week.
In closing all I wanted to do was learn taxes, and do my job. I am a business woman, educated and professional. I have never been treated this way in a work environment, I was harassed, belittled, embarrassed on numerous occasions in front of clients and coworkers. I believe Jackson Hewitt office in Gulfport Ms is likely your least professional unit on the coast. Jackson Hewitt needs to read page #1 in management 101 “praise in public, reprimand in private” this makes good employee relations.
I firmly believe I was discriminated against due to my age. The manager and general manager held little to no regard for my opinion or requests. They made my last day in this position uncomfortable and downright hostile.
I would strongly suggest reviewing the unit at store 10801. I intend on filling a complaint with the better business bureau and if this company does not conduct a review on store 10801 I will contact an attorney.
Out of twenty plus years in business I have not ever encountered a group of professionals that acted with such low class. I feel I was forced out of a position that could have been profitable for myself and your company. I would not take this much of your time if I didn’t feel it was necessary. I pray that you read this letter and take some form of action.
I appreciate your time and consideration in this matter.

Do not visit the store in Chehalis Washington. The preparer hasn’t a clue of what he’s doing. He actually lets you do your own return on his computer. His name is John and omg. Why would corporate allow these a Franchise owners even have a store. They are both alcoholics David is very abusive to the workers yes he’s the owner. They don’t follow the direction of corporate. He raises the prices way above what he’s supposed to. I have a picture of the client setting in the prepares chair doing his own return but it won’t let me post it. I will be sending it to corporate. Anyway do not visit these folks. I highly do not recommend it. You can get your taxes done so much cheaper and by a professional. And please corporate email me ASAP. David needs what’s coming to him.

In the interest of fairness, I wanted to update my comment of Sept 15 of this year. It required some effort on my part, but you can find the current JH Corporate HQ address via the internet if you dig deep enough, in addition to their current CEO. Why they do not update this website is beyond the ken of this Irishman, but if you make the effort, someone will get back to you and resolve your problems. Thanks JH, for making me believe in Corporate America again! That being said, everyone should investigate and vet the franchisee they are dealing with before using JH as a tax service because I think that is where most of the problems occur.

I would like to file a formal complaint for a Jackson Hewitt Atlanta GA Office employee; LaSandra Warner . I received a confrontational call from LaSandra Warner regarding an upcoming training course for taxes. She was upset because her friend was offered the opportunity to join a training course with a different company. At that time, LaSandra Warner begin to provide false information. She stated that she was a CPA with Jackson Hewitt and her friend must go to Jackson Hewitt Tax School because Jackson Hewitt will certify her to become a CPA. This is completely inaccurate information because Jackson Hewitt does not provide credentials to become a CPA. LaSandra Warner begin to harass several employees asking for our information for the Secretary of State, office location, etc as if she wanted to intimidate us. After looking for her credentials via the IRS website, I found that she is not a CPA. I could not find a PTIN for her. I am looking into this manner with the IRS and the Better Business Bureau because she is misleading people by stating she has a CPA and gives Jackson Hewitt a bad reputation by calling and harassing people.

She’s nothing but a preparer herself. But like i told her i don’t commit fraud. That’s when she said she’d give me my money back but she still hasn’t. and i told her from day one i’d had issues with america’s tax office, and she never told me that they were affiliated.

I gave my personal information to someone, that I apparently never talked to, and they have no record of the calls. I made a report and received a case number but was never given any follow up, nor received the “100%” satisfaction guarantee that they claim to be so proud of in the commercials and on their website. They are fraudulent and now they have a security breech that involves who knows how many people. I have an attorney working on this, with every phone call accounted for, and every claim they messed up.

Went to the Simi Valley Office to have my 2015 taxes filed. I was quoted a price to file my taxes along with a gift card of $50 for filing with Jackson Hewitt and being a loyal customer for years. When I got there the manager told me she couldn’t honor what her tax preparer told me because that discount is only for 2016 taxes and that she made a mistake to tell me this. I showed her where it was written down from my last visit when I got the quote and still they would not honor it. I’ve never had a problem with them til now. If your rep assures me of this discount, it should be honored. I asked if the discount could be applied and I pay the 50 less for the filing, still no. I’m very disappointed in their service and will not be returning. I will try Turbo Tax Next Year, my family has used Turbo Tax without issue and it was free!

I even said to the guy, “This seems a little expensive” and in reply, I got “well thats our fees, so sign here.” This is the first time I had done my taxes on my own and had no idea I could say no and not pay for a service someone just provided for me. I have been in contact with costumer service and the area manager, Kimberly, who does not seem to care. Being a college student only able to work part time, I am appalled that they would charge me these fees. It is disgusting how these people do business. Avoid at all costs!!!

These people have always done a good job with my taxes but this year they made a mistake on my taxes and the IRS contacted me and when I took it to Jackson Hewitt they proceeded to tell me it was a misunderstanding rather than a mistake and I had to pay in 600.00 for their mistake and I still have been waitimg on my tax return. If you guarantee your work then you hold true to your word and refund the client in which you have made many excuses to not pay for your mistake. Maybe a lawyer can get it from you and you need to stop advertising false promises and guarantees. Well I guess my next step is BBB.

Jackson Hewitt should be made to shut down. I had used them for several years and I did not this year because I was charged $385 for some dumb a$$ to file my 2015 taxes wrong now I owe over $3200 for his mistake I still don’t understand how this is possible. I thought they were certified to do taxes and the hell with the guarantees they offer all I got told was ” that’s how we roll and all I can say is I’m sorry”. I guess your stupid a$$ is sorry because you don’t have to pay it back and still got your damn money from me. I wish ever JH would go out of business. I even talked with a lawyer and was told it was IRS so pretty much I was screwed. It is wrong and I still want to know why I should pay for his stupid mistake. Same experience for me. Used JH for the first imne in 2015. Audited for what my new preparer said was a chilidish, stupid mistake (omission of GOVERNMENT paid income). Totally unresponsive franchisee, and a Corporate HQ which has moved, but not updated their website address, so certified mail was returned. My feeling is there are enough similar complaints here to warrant a class action lawsuit, and prevent these people from defrauding more customers. I will be filing a complaint with the IRS (there is a form to do so.. go to IRS.gov) and likely with the Better Business Bureau if my latest communication is ignored,

Turns out the IRS didn’t reject it and ended up in someone else’s account. Called JH for assistance, because it was their error. Well, so much for that 100% guarantee..They didn’t even bother to try and fix the problem. Rather told me to call my bank. Are you f****** kidding me??? I had my taxes done by Jackson Hewitt last year and was relatively pleased. This year I received a postcard from Jackson Hewitt that an appointment had been made for me this year at the Ware, MA Walmart on Feb 28. I wanted to verify the appointment, so I called the phone number on the postcard. After being hold and some delays the person said there is an “office” at the Ware Walmart and to trust that the appointment on the postcard was correct. Today, after taking off work to go to the 3pm appointment I walked through the Ware Walmart and saw no booth for Jackson Hewitt. I went to the Walmart Customer service and they told me Jackson Hewitt was not at this Walmart this year. What a wasted day and I took off work for no reason. I don’t feel like making another appointment….ever and I don’t want to go back to expensive H & R block. Maybe Jackson Hewitt will make good on their mistake!

first time I went to a Walmart office in troy ohio thought I got my taxes done and my wife asked the girl two times if both the state and federal were done she answered yes both times. checked my papers two day later no state tax papers. I go back the same girl and she said the state tax did not take but for $50 she would redo them. told her no way
then went to the main office after getting a letter from IRS needing more info. on line 64. a different girl she would take care of the error and send it back in. when I complained later about my taxes being messed up I was told the girl at Walmart office was new, the next time I call I was told that the error was found and went to the office the next day the same girl said there was no error. then I guess to make me feel better she would do my state tax free. no way already messed up my federal tax. just want to know why I paid 184.95 and still have no idea when and if my refund will be coming. I filed 1-17 and still nothing. do you stand behind your work because all I get out of this office is a big run around about how they helping on this but just giving different reasons why.

When I called for an appointment. The receptionist told me to come in at a scheduled time. I looked up the address, and it wasn’t untill I arrived that I realized, it was located inside the American Fork UT, location Wal-Mart, next to the customers check-out line & register. I sat and waited at the little desk for someone to show up, and some girl, with blue dyed hair, named Carson, slowly approached 12 min. late of our scheduled appointment. I quickly realized, this may not go well… she was over boisterous, chatty, loud, obnoxious, & unprofessional. As a result, she simply forgot to get our account routing number for a quick direct deposit…. 3 weeks later… still waiting…uh, thanks?

This is the first year o have had problems with JH. I was told when I brought in my w2s I would get the balance of my loan. Two weeks after turning them in I still hadn’t even gotten an email and the IRS had not received my return. Two hours in phone calls later I get a call from the lady who did my taxes she forgot to have me sign something. So then it was finally received by the IRS and check will be sent out in five days meanwhile still waiting on loan that I was approved for one supervisor said was sent out for direct deposit on the 11th. The next person gave me the 12th as the date still nothing on my card the 17 th and all of a sudden it wasn’t sent out til the 15th. I will have my IRS refund before I get my pre tax loan. I successfully prepare taxes for over 200 clients each season by myself and have few issues/very few complaints, which are usually resolved fairly quickly. For the people having problems every year, my suggestion would be to find a reputable preparer (ask about their background and education) and use the same one year after year so there are no surprises. Sure, Jackson Hewitt has had their fair share of incompetent employees, I’ve witnessed a few myself. Please take it upon yourself to read the fine print and ask about your preparers background in taxes. You should know your life and what papers you are putting your signature on. Any type of refund advance is a LUXURY product that many people do not/should not qualify for, not something you are entitled to. ALWAYS bring your social when you are getting your taxes done.

If everyone knew about how to prepare taxes they would do it themselves. The jackson hewitt in the chalotte county mall florida are scammers and theives. NEVER AGAIN STAY AWAY. Your better off doing your own. The more money they see you are getting the more they charge. The mall should throw them out. @ w2s and school write off for my daughter how does 250 dollars sound then when you tell them they are crazy they lower it to 125. Still highway robbery. Tell customers before you start how much and get rid of the illegal paper that says they owe you35 bucks if they don’t use you after you overcharge the hell out of them!!!!!

I quit working for this company today. I started in the tax prep business in 1999 and for 17 years have avoided working for JH, Block, Liberty, or any other similar company marketed towards lower income. Regardless of IRS due diligence requirements and JH’s statement that a tax preparer can refuse to do a return, this company still encourages its employees to prepare returns based on false information. When I told an area manager from Wyoming visiting my twin cities office, I refused returns that were fraudulent, she didn’t like my response. For many managers it’s all about their numbers and metrics. For me I don’t give a rat’s ass about metrics and really don’t give a F what other employees are doing to earn bigger bonuses. My integrity matters more. Hewitt, as Block and Liberty attract the sXXXX of clients who try to scam the system with fake W2s and fake self employment income with handwritten fake client information and no receipts for expenses. Would Hewitt back up its employee if the IRS determined the information was fake? Most likely not and I don’t work for anyone where I’d have to pay a fine for accepting fake information. It’s why I don’t work at a place selling tobacco or alcohol products. Many of the employees can’t pass the tests to be a preparer. I know. I saw it regularly. They had to retake the exams repeatedly. They couldn’t read the questions and these people are doing your returns. My integrity didn’t square with the prices which included multipliers depending on the month. And Jackson Hewitt doesn’t want its employees to know the fees either to tell a potential client. Also, what nonsense these companies do offering their gimmicks with paystub advances. People need to learn to save their money and have their taxes done at a reputable independent business, for half what JH, Block and Liberty charge. Forget advances. Forget assisted refunds, that is paying for your taxes out of your refund. Learn to save money and pay a cheaper price to have your taxes prepared. It’s all about selling more products and services with these companies when you really only need to pay a smaller fee to have your taxes done, or learn to do them yourself. And for those who want to lie about your income so you can reap big refunds from the earned income tax credit and other credits, the IRS rightfully so is cracking down on you. I don’t work for cheats as clients or with companies who promote this behavior. If I had been a Wells Fargo employee, I would have walked and reported them to the Justice Department. I just don’t understand employees who are slaves to employees, continuing to engage in fraudulent behavior.

I filed my taxes as usual this year and they screwed me out of a loan that I was approved for. They claim it was a glitch in the system. They will not give me the corporate office number and the number that is online leads back to them. They do not deserve an honest person like you. You did the right thing!##

She did it with wilful intent I believe since my wife I’m separated from said she wasn’t doing her taxes with them. And I ask the lady to shred my personal info or give it back to me and she said no they have to keep it. I have always done my taxes for the past 15+ years and decided to have Jackson Hewitt do mine this year. Well I have to say the local office was amazing. I did the express loan and well that is where it went downhill with things. I received a email saying I would get $200 now $800 when I brought my W2 in and well I got the first part and then the second part I only got $550. When I called to ask them about it I got the run around. I got sent to Metabank, the customer service line for JH and then back to MetaBank back to JH and I was fit to be tied. The second time I called the CS line for JH this is what I got…. I got a girl named Nikki not even asking me the questions to pull my account up and looking, her and her “Supervisor” Jessica laughing and talking when I was trying to talk to them and then when she said I can’t pull up your info but she could see my account I asked her to tell me my street address and she hung up on me. I called to talk to my local office and they were super nice and they personally were floored with the treatment I have received. They gave me another number which has turned into another dead-end and from the looks of all the comments below This First time customer will not be back as a customer at all. I personally think that the email saying you were approved for $1000 should be honored, and for future you need to re- word that email saying that you have been approved up to a X amount. and you also need to let the customer know up front it could change when you bring your W2 in. This is my thought and I am sure that I will not hear back from anyone , I am sure I won’t get a call back and I am sure that you will lose a customer and Pretty sure I will not refer my friends and oh I am pretty sure that Social Media Blast will be in a future! as the new phrase on Twitter ” You have been Trumped” Since Trump blast folks on Twitter!

(waiting 5 months, still not refund). I was told by JH representatives that it was my fault. I called because I am not satisfied with this service. I was told I would have 100% refund if service was not good. Service is terrible, customer service refuses to talk to me. Saying they did their part. I am not satisfied and am expecting my $500 dollars back. As services were awful!

I’m here to assist you. I have over 20 years in the tax industry and have seen many scenarios that may affect your refund. I first advise you to stay calm and blame no one. Remember, you get more flies with honey than you do with vinegar, meaning people will go further to assist you if you remain pleasant and I understand that can be difficult at times.
These are some reasons why your state refund may be held. Any monies that you owe to the sate for instance, unpaid parking tickets, a change from your federal return and affected your refund from a prior year and not corrected on your state return. You may owe money to a state hospital, unpaid personal/real estate taxes, etc.
You should have received a letter from the state advising you as to why your refund has not been paid out.
My suggestion is to either look up the phone number for the state Department of Taxation and call them. You can also visit the office or go back to your JH office and ask them to call for you. Neither the IRS or the state will give out information on your tax return w/o you giving the permission, even though they prepared your return. You need to be present so the taxing authority agent can ask you some pertinent questions prior to asking you for your permission to divulge and tax information.
Remember, stay calm and they can explain to you what has happened to your refund. They can also assist you if you want to challenge that determination.
Good luck and I hope this helps you.

      Debbie,
No one can give you a bigger refund than the next person if they’re filing an accurate return for you. The tax law is the tax law and the numbers are the numbers. Only a cheat can get you more $$ by filing a fraudulent return. And even if they do, YOU are responsible for the accuracy of that return even though they prepared your return. YOU would pay that $$ back to the IRS/State, not them.
You can ALWAYS ask for them to review your return and in some instances other tax services will review it for free.
Sometimes what you hear on the street isn’t accurate information.

That’s not necessarily true. You can file a completely accurate return and still not receive the MAXIMUM refund if the person preparing your return ignored certain important items. A lot of people, mostly because they don’t know any better, will take the standard deduction when they could actually see a bigger refund from itemizing their deductions. Obviously this isn’t true in every case, but in a lot of cases it is. This doesn’t mean that their return is inaccurate or fraudulent, just that they didn’t take advantage of everything available to them. Itemizing deductions and researching all available credits takes a lot of work, but someone who is diligent and does the legwork can reap major rewards.

If you still haven’t received your refund that that office isn’t open as posted hours call 1.800.234.1040, file a complaint and tell them you want a call back from the franchise owner or the Regional Director.

Obviously Jackson Hewitt doesn’t give a sh*t about the ‘customer’. I will never be doing business with them again and strongly recommend to anybody reading this to do your own taxes. Just for doing my taxes, the claimed my entire state refund. So if you want to pay somebody hundreds of dollars to do your taxes, JACKSON HEWITT IS THE PLACE. it’s damn near impossible to talk to a corporate leader, though I’m sure they would be of no assistance as well. It’s a very loose business that has no care for the customer. After being transferred and put on hold half a dozen times, I realized I’ve been scammed clearly. DO NOT USE JACKSON HEWITT. With the loss of me, just one customer, I will aim to lose them hundreds. In my town, I will let it be known. So it’s a good thing the really don’t care or else they might think twice about the claims they’ve made.

A call to the BBB will give you results. The BBB will email/send them a letter and they’ll have to respond to it. Ask for a reply when you file your complaint.

You normally can file your complaint online. Google BBB with your city/state.

I too am sick about the situation with the mistakes on my filing which has caused me grief and stress that should not be going through. the man at Jackson Hewitt made a $3600.00 mistake that IRS caught. Which took a refund I was advise I would get of $4160.00 down to $560.00 refund. After going back to the office and having someone else do a an amendment found he had made other mistakes. I had borrowed money that was paid out of my payroll check and caused me financial problems because my filing was incorrect. I have had no help from the District Manager as she advised. Going on three weeks. I have asked for my money back that I paid the day of filing in cash. cannot buy groceries or medicine. Will not get paid again until end of March.

I was blown away by my entire experience here. I AM A SINGLE MOM WITH A VERY SIMPLE RETURN AND A 2014 RETURN. WHEN I WENT IN THE OFFICE THE GUY I SAT WITH CURSED AT ME REPEATEDLY IN FRONT OF MY DAUGHTER WHO IS 7, AND BANGED HIS FISTS ON THE DESK SO HARD MY CHILD WAS FRIGHTENED. HE DID THIS BECAUSE HE SAID ” MY RETURN WAS JUST TOO MUCH FOR HIM AND I SHOULD REALLY TAKE IT ELSEWHERE”. SO AFTER ALMOST 3 HOURS I ASKED FOR MY STUFF BACK AND HE SAID THAT WILL TAKE AWHILE. HIS NAME IS JOHN WYLES. ITS BEEN 3 WEEKS – I HAVE CALLED THE STORE, AND CORPORATE AT LEAST 10 TIMES AND EVERY TIME I’M TOLD I’LL GET A CALL BACK BECAUSE THE MANAGERS AND OWNER ARE ALWAYS “BUSY”. THE GERNERAL MGR.’S NAME IS LORI PALMER AND ASST.MGR IS LEAH ROTH. THE OWNERS NAME IS LARRY COX. THIS IS THE WORST EXPERIENCE I’VE EVER HAD NOT TO MENTION JOHN WYLES WAS HOSTILE AND VIOLENT IN FRONT OF MY SMALL CHILD. I AM NOT ONE TO POST REVIEWS BUT I HAVE POSTED A REVIEW ABOUT THIS PLACE–JACKSON HEWITT — ON EVERY SITE POSSIBLE-YELP,GOOGLE,SUPERPAGES,YELLOWPAGES,STORE WEBSITE, AND I HAVE A MEETING WITH CHANNEL13 NEWS TOMORROW–I AM GOING TO LET EVERYONE KNOW JUST HOW HORRIBLE–THE ABSOLUTE WORST POSSIBLE PLACE TO GO- JACKSON HEWITT. PEOPLE DESERVE TO KNOW WHATS GOING ON AT THIS STORE.

I as well have had the worst experience with them this year. Their lack of experience is beyond me. I had to do an Amendment something I have never in my life done. This lady known by MJ said it wasn’t a big deal it would be an easy thing to do. Never did she say it was something I had to pay out of pocket when I went back to finish my paper work and AND I have to mail my own paper work to the IRS with an additional money owner. Never again will I file with these people. This was at a Walmart on 1960 Atascocita area.

I am rarely the one to complain but this one really did hurt after knowing that I was taken for a ride by this company. I am so disgusted and ashamed to even tell my family about my experience. After showing up for my appointment and no one being there, I decided to look for another tax service company but because I had to go to work I figured I’ll go to another place. After 3 hours the JH rep called and had her long excuse. I decided to go give them a try in the morning. I first asked the lady what the estimate would be and she told me it would be less than the other companies. Long story short they charged me $293 for my taxes. I barely have less that a $100 back from my refunds. I blame my foolishness for going to this company. When one works hard all year long and tries to atleast take care off a few bills and this is what they get, it will forever linger with me. I never wish bad on anyone or any company but I believe in karma.

We have similar feelings toward Jackson Hewitt. The lady who prepared was very nice and all but when she quoted us $446 for our short form tax return we nearly had heart failure. Never again. I can add up HR Block’s fee and Liberty Tax fee from past 2 years (one of which was long form) and they still wouldn’t total what we owed Jackson Hewitt. We paid them more than we owe in fed tax. We are done with this company.

I have filled with Jackson Hewitt for 5 years and the whole time they have messed me up on my taxes but this year in January 2016 took the book . I went to the local Jackson Hewitt at walmart to get the 750 advance and I know how they work instead of them giving me the advance towards my check stubs the girl went a head and filled my taxes with 2 of my check stubs and then signed my name to my tax papers that I never received I had to down load them my self to look at them . when I got all 3 my w2s I went back to file them and she had already processed my taxes and refused to file my state she signed my name to the decline to file them . I been trying to settle this with corporate but they want me to think I am stupid but I know how it works . I am very discussed with them I will never use them again ever

Took my son’s taxes to Jackson, TN location. Received a call the following day asking if I had taken the envelope with his information with me. I replied no. Was told that the envelope was “misplaced.” The woman said in her 23 years she had NEVER misplaced (or even lost) tax information. My son received an email through another tax site which indicated that his information was used to try and file a return. Can anyone say “Identity Theft.” When I called the Jackson Hewitt office to let them know that his information had been compromised, I was told that it could not happen and that she was “human” and mistakes are made. Will never go there again.

Wow! I wish I read all this before going this year and having the same horrible experience. First it started with the Call Center. The female that answered sounded “STONED” and was yawning and I had to repeat how to spell MARY several times. Then the appointment. I do not have stocks, bonds, etc. A very easy couple page form and was charged $403.00!!!!! (by the way i made less money too) The same exact paperwork as last year cost me $287.00 and the year before, $212.00. ALWAYS THE EXACT SAME FORMS. And when I questioned i was told they increased the prices. SHOULDN’T WE BE TOLD THAT BEFORE YOU PREPARE THE TAXES? I am DONE working with Jackson Hewitt. ROB ME ONCE SHAME ON YOU ROB ME TWICE SHAME ON ME. I will be writing a letter to CEO, Philip Sanford.

Jackson Hewiit should be shut down immediately I decided to do my own taxes this year and first time I E-filed it was rejected because my dependents SSN was off by 1 number. Understandable. After that i E- filed about 5 or 6 times and all times my file was rejected due to my dependents date of birth did not match the SSN. UGH excuse me but I think i know when my children were born. I went down to a Jackson Hewitt office on Saticoy and Winnetka and the woman said that the Social Security Offices made a typo on their system. I think not. We did our taxes last year with the same information and it was accepted. Anyways I ended up filing through TurboTax with the same information and get what? It was accepted by the IRS that same day.

I have been told totally different things by everyone I have talked to and yet noone knows anything about where my return even went due to a “glitch in the system” that “happens quite often” ! And since the only thing you get after 30min of being on hold and going through automated menu after after menu is a person in a call center that can’t do anything but put in a request for someone else to call you back within 24 hours. So now I have baisically paid this company hundreds of dollars to make sure that I spend as much time and money going from place to place trying to get answers to questions nobody wants to bother to answer and there is nothing I can do?! I would go to jail if I took someones money and just walked away….why are these people being allowed to do it without any consequence?

So now things have progressed to a bigger mess with no help from Kathy. I asked to speak with someone higher than her to get assistance and was told there was no one. I find this hard to believe for being an area manager that there is someone above her in the corporate office, but when I ask about corporate, I am told there is no one I can contact.

No one should have to be going through what I am dealing with. I need someone to contact me in reference to this. This company should pull out of Wal-Mart because they do not take care of their customers as they say they do.

A screw up from the start. The person doing my return sais I could not have a automatic deposit even with my banke statement in hand . She required a check from my bank. I have not used checks in years. next my refund was mailed to the wrong address. To correct this after nine weeks I called the main office and was told the office in my town was open on Wendesday from 11-4 I made the 25 mile drive to the office only to find it closed. Calling the number on the door the person told me the office closed two weeks after tax season and if I need any help with my refund I would have to drive to their other office in Red Oak, TX, this is a 100 mile round trip from my home. the person there told me I would have to make a apointment and could not just walk in. I explained I had traveled 50 miles toget there. she said I should call first. It has taken three weeks to get results even with calls to the corprate office. the statement of year round service is not true only a few offices remain open. The office in Gunbarell City is not open after the end of the season.

Jackson Hewitt taxed software “improperly calculated” the taxes and I called customer service and they.said to take it into Jackson Hewitt
office for review because that does not sound right? However, I would be
responsible for paying? No you all need to pay for this since you all
messed it up. Why should I have to pay for it? How does my state taxes go
from a refund of $452 to owing $1250? I am sorry but someone in corporate needs to look into this. I want to know how the calculations
screwed up so badly? I want answers about this immediately and since your

it does turn out to be $1250 that I owe for state taxes.

My husband and I filed in February. The preparer “forgot” to attach the 1095 form even though we gave her the information. We were notified by the IRS about the situation. After contacting the main office in reference to their error i was told it wasn’t their fault and they weren’t apologizing for anything. After being insulted by the area manager, Alveinia Daniels, i have to request that her associate Vicky stop calling me. All tg st did was defend their action. This is crazy. So, this vicky person was the one who “corrected” our return. Unfortunately, she filled out their form wrong causing the IRS to take a large sum of money from us. After calling again these two women fraught with me over their second error. I reached out to the regional manager who never got back with me. Finally a man named terry helped on 4-11. A partial depositvwas made in my account and i have to fight to recover thousands due to jh errors. The kicker is my bank returned the checked because jh messed up our names on the check and now no one will help me again. The bank listed on the paperwork from jh states they dont do business with them anymore. So i signed a doXXXXent under false pretenses with all of my personal banking information and dont . Even know where it went. I have contacted the BBB, filed a complaint with the Attorney General and contemplating contacting a lawyer. Beware of jh and their practices.

    Hi,
So, apparently Jackson Hewitt is just a rip off company and enjoys stealing from the smaller people. This year was my first and LAST time ever using Jackson Hewitt. My mother filed our taxes the last couple of years so I had no experience with a company but I decided to go to walmart in Grove City, OH and get it done. Price was never mentioned upfront and it was only made known once all info was filled out on the computer! I was charged $332 for just me! I had state, federal and a RITA form filed. I don’t have children, I’m not married, I don’t own a house or have any investments. I’m in my mid 20s and I make about $25,000 a year working full time. My tax preparer even said my taxes are the basic of the basic so it shouldn’t take long. I filed about 2 weeks ago, then stopped in a different location last Tues to complain and was told that that price sounded ridiculous for me and I would be called soon to sort it out. I still have not been called! I have now told everyone I know and on social media to NEVER use Jackson Hewitt for they are scams and have no care!

The tax assistant, Angel A., was very helpful and friendly. The manager, Mike Gaulding, was a good person but just looked so unprofessional. My husband and I went to Jackson Hewitt on February 4, 2015 to file. Larry had one w2 and had to buy the other one for Circle K. The tax place in the Walmart said that they can pull the W2 for Circle K for free he had to use his prepaid S.S.I. card to pay for the W2. We filed Married filing jointly. He scanned the w2’s in a scanner on his key board and never told us how much the fee were to file his name was Rick at the Norwalk, Ohio on West Main street. He really didn’t do much but run the W-2 through the scanner on his keyboard and our driver license too. We went there because of the $50.00 Walmart card and the $500.00 advance from your Federal return
Well the fee’s were so high I would have either done them myself or have a friend that a tax preparer do them for cheaper. They charged us $412.00 to file our taxes that is just so high for low income families. My son went to H & R Block had 3 w-2 and only had to pay $182.00 and there were no incentives to file there and he got way over $3000.00 and he has on children. Now that fee is so wrong and I would like to find out how they can reduce it. Everyone I have talked too said they ripped you off. We own NOTHING we rent our house we own of cars. We don’t own property somewhere we only claimed our 8 year old daughter which after everything was done we didn’t receive our State refund they took the for the fees we owed for filing our taxes a whole $81.00 I could use some of that fee money back my dad and step mom has property and business and there tax prepare didn’t charge them that much and they got theirs professionally done also. So can you help us out on the issue? Every time we would call them we got a totally different answer. I believe they ripped us off and I will go as high as I can for someone to listen!! Rick NEVER told us our fees during the time we were there and we asked and he said there not much and we come off our refund. We didn’t even qualify for the advance from return either. I’m so upset and sick that a well respective company as Jackson Hewitt can charge a FEE of $412.00 too people with nothing assists wise. Would you please send something to the email provided explaining your fees for LOW INCOME PEOPLE???

We received our federal but the preparer “forgot” (as Taj the man who apparently oversees the borough’s offices put it) to put our state in the computer. Taj stated our taxes were filed mid FEBRUARY!!?? It is now 6 weeks later and our taxes are just due to be mailed out on 3/10. We paid for efile and expected to receive check from JH. Obviously this was a paper return but Taj refuses to return any fees we were charged?! I have been a customer for well over 10 years. We will not return to JH again and we will discourage others to do business with the company as well if this matter is not properly dealt with!

I never got my $50 Wal-Mart gift card either.
Contacting support via email is a joke.
The local lady, although very nice, had no clue how to find it either.
She simply said it’s not there, and I don’t know what to do.
    What a Joke!

My name is Krisie Duplantis. I filed my taxes at Jackson Hewitt in Lake Charles Louisiana. I never received my $50 Wal-Mart card. The whole reason I went there is because of that incentive they were offering. I’ve called repeatedly and they wouldn’t answer me. I dint understand how y’all can advertise something and then not foplow through with it . I intend to do a little advertising myself on social network on how bad the service of Jackson Hewitt is. Thanks a bunch

Lied about getting a 50 gift card for Walmart which is a scam by the way. Waited 55 mins after my appointment was made so my 2 year old loved that. Worst experience with any company. I will give them a chance to fix their wrong doing. But place is a complete scam and charge over twice what any good office should charge. Thanks for the phone call saying your an hour behind. Thanks for ripping the Hard working people of America off. I strongly recommend h and r block. Prices are good and they are professional. I have no idea why I even tried Jackson Hewitt but worst mistake anyone can make.

I filed taxes in April of 2014 at the Jackson Hewitt location in Walmart on Woodruff Road in Greenville, SC and referred my son who filed his taxes the next day. The incentive for a referral was $20 which was to be mailed in August of 2014. (My son received his discount at the time of service). I didn’t receive the $20 in August so I called the number that was listed on my tax return and of course it had been disconnected. I tracked down a telephone number for Jackson Hewitt and was given Paulette Moore’s name as the contact person who would handle this and see to it that my $20 was received. I’ve literally been calling for 3 weeks now and have spoken to a minimum of 4-5 different people who swear they’ve given Paulette Moore my name and number which I left each time, and of course I’ve received no acknowledgement, call or $20. Do I need the $20 that bad…absolutely not. However, it’s the principle. This happens to be one of those times I will not relent until I receive the $20 that was promised to me. How can Paulette Moore run a financial business and be so busy that she can’t handle her financial affairs and take care of her customers. I didn’t ask for the $20, it was offered as an incentive. Any other store I go into that offers some type of special if you meet their requirements make good on their word and that’s what I expect here. After all it’s almost been a full year, this is February 9, 2015 and I filed April 2014. It’s tax time again and do you think I’ll refer anyone to any Jackson Hewitt office, ABSOLUTELY NOT!! I would like to receive my $20 ASAP. What horrible service. I’m just beginning here but I will post this all over social media until I receive my $20.

I was not happy with Jackson Hewitt your commercial said that if you file your taxes with texting you and you can get a $50 gift card for Walmart just have to be $150 tax prayernever got one back it doesn’t take care of their customers I think the next step is contacting the FTIC and the Better Business Bureauand let them know about the little scam that the running obviously they don’t want to so I guess I’ll take my necessary actions and to let Jackson Hewitt no I’m not someone to let things go I will do what I say

I guess maybe if you leave a bad comment it may get someone’s attention?????? OK I gilled my 2012 taxes and regret it to this day. The lady mixed up numbers ss# numbers and entered them so of course it threw them out but it was over a week before I found out something wasn’t right after calling and going to the office several times the lady said oh I see the problem. Well she said she fixed it then handed me my 100 card ,she said you can use in it about two hours. The next day after being totally embrassed . I had to leave my things at the cash register and six calls later my card started working again the lady put numbers in wrong this time she put in someone else’s ss number. Long story short after four weeks of problems with my taxes I was promised my money back they charged for the long wait and mix ups. I’m still waiting on that. But what tops the cake here I got audited. So I call JH and she tells me since I paid for the gold protection orsomething like that it will be paid 2600 . I felt much better and decided to let the stuff go and even use them again. The lady said I had to meet her and sign a voucher . kinda hard when she skips town. Now its tax time again and not wanting to go back there I have no choice . Now the lady is saying that it wasn’t the year they did my taxes it was from years back. Lies I have papers that show the year. So she gets on line and locked my account on the IRS . and tells me someone else is going to have to look at it. What should I do? She is very hateful and so rude she cusses no matter who is in the office and the staff is unprofessional. Flipping the finger and talking about sex. This office needs closed. Yet I’m still stuck paying this when I shouldn’t and no refund for me all because someone didn’t pay attention what they were doing…. Or did she do it on purpose ? The conversations I heard when she was on the phone . she probably did it just for spite. Unhappy with the entire JH. If something isn’t done I will be back to complain. Let’s see if JH cares about their customers.

Not happy at all! The JH rep who completed my taxes in a store location did not enter information wrong so it was rejected and I was not notified. After having other issues I was told then it had been rejected. Then the same rep supposedly fixed the issue and resubmitted the forms and again it was rejected again due to input fields. And again I was not notified. I called to see what was going on and my rep was not in today, go figure.
Another rep over the phone figured out the wrong input and supposedly corrected the issue and resubmitted for the third time. I will see it was accepted within an hour from now.
This kind of input mistakes from tax preparers is NOT acceptable. This is how you lose customers and give the company a bad name.
Also upon doing my taxes the rep told me there is a 200forfree option no credit based and I qualified because I was getting back a specific amount, Then she stated just check the card and it will be loaded in an hour. We went home and an hour later we were emailed by a third party named First Money Center. The email had a link to go to and upon opening the link then we found out this 200forfree was a credit based load; not what the JH told us. Also they wanted us to e-sign to their terms which I read over and totally disagreed and I refuse to e-sign that form. In their terms page it states that your are signing over the right for their employees to deduct any fund from my refund and apply where they see fir. Plus in no terms an amount was specified that they were dealing with.
They supplied your refunds routing number and their bank number and expecting it to be e-signed.
I clicked the cancel button cancelling the e-sign form because no way I am signing to those terms. The cancel application did not work so I called their establishment and the rep wanted my full social security number, they were only suppose to ask for the last four digits. I refused to announce my full social number over an open airway let alone to some one I did not know and he refused to cancel the application.
I called back and supposedly spoke to a supervisor and he expected the same thing.
These people {First Money Center} are crooks, and are coaxing customers in through using JH as their means to.
This kind of third party is and will give JH a bad rep and name; people will remember the main name involved in the issue and it is JH.
Also JH has their corporate number listed on the web and it states corporate information with an address, email, and telephone number located in NJ. But that is not a real corporate number it only leads to their regular store locater operators. The number is a hoax and lie. The store locaters can not handle any issue period so why are people directed to call the number when it states it is a corporate number.
No one with their calling system can do anything but redirect you to another person who can not do anything. Ridiculous!
I also do NOT like their new color, blue.
JH has always had the colors red, that is what made them stand out. The new color blue just blends in along with every other business trying desperate to have an updated look.
I am so upset due to going through this mess since last Friday; all this mess would not have happened if the JH preparer input fields correctly.

I learned alot off the computer training and asking questions from my main office. But I got so good I had alot of ppl happy and want me to do there taxes next year. But not with jackson Hewitt smh.my manager I worked with lie to me abt bonus and trips….lied abt everything almost.I tried to quit at first but she lied and said if I dont stay I wont receive my bonus check.the reason y I wanted to quit is because I didnt have any day off n when I had to miss a day or ask for it.it was a problem and she scream text me lol and I already told the office the situation. Now I cant get my bonus check because of my tardes. My tardes/absents was because my car caught a flat or my three year old daughter was sick or in the hospital. I have been down with the flu for the last 12 days and decided to go to Wal-Mart for groceries and get my taxes done. I walked in and there was only one lady there at Jackson Hewitt, before filing my taxes, I specifically asked her what the cost for filing was. She said it depends on what I needed to file and how many forms I had. I AM a single mother with 2 kids and only had a W2 form to file. After everything was entered in, she told me how much I was getting back and then goes the fee for me is $375!!! I AM a single mother, if I had known it was that much, I would have driven to the person I have been going to for the last 6 years! She said there was nothing she could do and that she can knock it down to $300! Really? I AM so upset and will not recommend them. I want my money back!

      Hi
I am just filing a complaint -the same thing happened to me. I made only 1,188.99 had one W-2 and I was charged 351.00,except the tax preparer said I was charged 149.00. I was upset enough about that. Have you had any of this resolved? I am emailing JacksonHewitt if I dont get satisfaction out of them I am taking up this issue with several places. THe local Chamber of Commerce, the Better Business Bureau,Walmart for having JacksonHewitt in there knowing that Walmart attracts low income customers, the state representatives and anyone else I can think of.
THis is taking advantage of us ,there is NO justification, and we count on our taxes to pay off bills or to do something or to purchase something with the little bit of extra cash we have. I have been telling people including business owners -no one can believe it.
I am tired of learning lessons the hard way and nothing ever being done to make it right. Can I ask what state you live in? I am in SOuth Dakota.
I will go down fighting I am bound and determined to get something done about this.

I have to agree with all of these complaints. I went into a Walmart location 3 years ago to do a ammended return and the representative ammended the wrong year 2009 instead of 2008. Ive been trying since then to have this corrected and still Jackson Hewitt gives me the run around. This is so sad. I will NEVER USE OR REFER anyone to Jackson Hewitt again and every chance i get i will let people know NOT to use this company unless u want trouble with the IRS.

I went to the Jackson Hewitt in Edison, NJ at Wal-Mart. Horrible customer service. Horrible staff. The tax preparer did not file my taxes properly. She filed without my signature which is against the law. She did not tell me what the filing charge was. I didn’t find out until after she filed. Jackson Hewitt is a price gouger. For anyone who is reading this, you can file a complaint against the tax preparer with the IRS and you can file a complaint against Jackson Hewitt with your Attorney General in your state.

Disingenuous company that takes advantage of the lower class, and especially women. Your company is worst than a car dealership. I’m a Sears employee and I was cheated in overpaying for my tax return this year. I was given one excuse after another to defend the charges that were made. I spoke to a Robert (customer service regional manger), and instead of taking my word for a quoted estimate, I’m insulted and practically called a liar. Something I know from working at Sears is you never go against a customer’s word. Company is run by dishonest people with no accountability for their actions. I will never do my tax return with your company again, nor will recommend your company to any of my friends or family. My next step will be to get in contact with the IRS and make a formal complaint, unless I get a refund.

I went to the greenwood indiana location inside walmart off of emerson avenue. the man who sat down with me IMMEDIATELY showed no common sense, or any sense of knowledge with tax preperation. When he told me my tax refund was going to only be 1,500$ I about lost it! I knew the credit for having a child alone is worth minimally 1500$ plus all the other deductions I earned for the year! then the man couldn’t even figure out how to put my school credits into the system! he spent 15minutes trying to call other people to figure out what HE was doing wrong and n the end I left and went to h.r. block instead. wWOULD you believe my tax refund suddenly became 5,500$? I am sorry but your agent almost ripped me out of 4 THOUSAND dollars and he didn’t even seem to care that I KNEW it should be a lot more! I feel sorry for whoever ends up going through this man as he does not know what he is doing and if he would have lost me 4 thousand dollars, who else is he going to lose money for! his name is david and he has shoulder length gray hair and facial hair. if anyone happens to get there taxes done through jackson hewitt, make sure you don’t go to that guy or you won’t get your full refund!
