Cuthbert remained CEO of the company until 2014 when he sold it to TripAdvisor for $200 million, mostly in cash.

The company specializes in tours and attractions in countries around the world. Clients can book tours such as the Harry Potter Tour at Warner Brothers Studios in London to a nighttime helicopter flight around Las Vegas, or hit up the Luau at Paradise Cove, Hawaii.
Viator offers a full-refund policy for any venue as long as it is canceled within 24 hours of the date of the program.

In December 2021, Viator ran into some major competition when Expedia partnered with GetYourGuide.

Hi, I am really upset and disappointed in your company. I booked a limo service to pick me up at the airport on July 6th. Every communication I received from you guys stats that I will be charge on July 4th. Your company decided to charge me today July 3rd and since the funds isn’t there you guys canceled my reservation. Now you guys are saying I have to rebook and it’s going to charge me more. How is this my problem you guys said payment due July 4th not 3rd. Now you guys canceled and tell me I have to pay more this is not right.
It is really inconvenient and extremely disappointing to cancel my booking without any notification of cancellation as well as based on suspicion.
At least, I could be notified of cancellation so that I could visit citypass website and purchase it directly from there not to loose time. I am travelling all the way from Toronto depending on this booking of city exploration and to my disappointment, I get to know after the fact that my booking is cancelled WITHOUT PRIOR NOTICE. New york city attraction requires reservation in advance now i will not have such time. Why I was not notified about my cancellation? In the past, I purchased ticket for Chicago citypass and I was really happy which was the reason behind relying on your organization for another location. VERY DISAPPOINTED TO SEE SUCH ORGANIZATIONAL PROCESS!!! Thank you for such treatment and disturbing the tour schedule.
