TalkSpace was founded by Roni and Oren Frank in New York, New York, in 2012. The company is an online therapy service, which connects clients with therapists. After the couple went through marriage counseling, Roni Frank thought that everyone should have access to therapists, but that many people simply didn’t have time to make appointments and see therapists in person.
The company software operates on any device that has internet access, including tablets, laptop computers, desk top computers, and mobile phones. As of mid-2016, clients and therapists can use real time video chat for sessions. All therapists are licensed. The company offers unlimited text messaging, as well as audio and video programs. Currently, TalkSpace has an A+ rating with the Better Business Bureau.
TalkSpace is approved by Irvin Yalom, Professor Emeritus of Psychiatry at Stanford University. In 2016, the company hired Linda Sacco, LCSW, Ph.D, as Vice President of Behavioral Health. Company headquarters remain in New York, New York.

I am shocked at the level of incompetence and lack of responsiveness to billing issues. I’ve paid thousands in advance for sessions and am not receiving a proper accounting of how the sessions are deducted from the total I’ve already paid. Additionally, this service requires auto-renewal of advanced billing which means I’m accumulating sessions faster than I can use them. I was told I could pause the auto-renewal but pausing then froze my account so I didn’t have access to sessions I’ve already paid for that were scheduled in advance. And now, sessions I’ve already paid for have been completely erased from the system and I have zero options given for rescheduling. No one is answering my simple questions and the email only customer service is a total sham – it doesn’t solve anything. No word from billing on this system that makes any sense. And I can’t talk to a real person – just email which is horribly inefficient and ineffective. I received a message saying that I had to “resubscribe” – but what does that mean – pay more money – when I’ve already got 4 sessions on the books that I’ve paid for. Will I lose that money and more? I had 4 sessions I’d paid for that they wiped off my account earlier too. No one offers an answer. Honestly – if this is standard for this company – they’re likely this ripping people off of hundreds and thousands of dollars.

This once was a great place to work, the flexibility, pay and support was outstanding.
Then over the last 6 months the changes hit. I’m leaving because I can’t work for a company that does not care about my well being.
