Zaxby’s was founded in 1990 in Statesboro, Georgia, by the current owner and CEO Zach McLeroy. The company operates a chain of casual fast food restaurants, mostly in the Southern part of the US.
Currently, the company has approximately 800 mostly franchised locations in 18 states, which offer chicken, salads, and sandwiches. The company offers a variety of sauces to accompany their chicken, including names like Zax sauce, Nuclear, and Insane sauce. Most locations are decorated with amusing signs from the region. 
In December of 2013, the company announced that Zaxby’s would begin to offer the Coca-Cola Freestyle machine at most of their locations, the decor in the fountain drink dispensing area has been dominated by that distinctive dispenser, along with other Coke brands.
As of July 2017, Zaxby’s has grown to more than 800 locations in 17 states. Most locations are franchises. 
The company markets their products using actors, many of them from nostalgic television shows, such as Penny Marshall and Cindy Williams from the television show Laverne and Shirley, as well as country music stars, such as Lee Ann Womak, and NFL players, such as Clay Matthews.
In early September, the company hired former Jack in the Box Vice President Vanessa Fox as the company’s first CD Officer (Career Development)
