Tis the Season Christmas Shoppe was founded in 1996 by former Amish believer Jo Ann Hershberger. The building was originally part of a larger farm that had been purchased and was used as a farm tool and stock warehouse. Hershberger wanted a year round Christmas store that was big enough to include a “Christmas Village.”
The building is 20,000 square feet, broken up into sections, each with a different theme. In the beginning, only the first floor was used, but today, the company has grown so much that the basement and balconies are also used. Tis the Season Christmas Shoppe is an authorized seller of many collectable Christmas items, including Possible Dreams, Snowbabies, and Byers Choice.
The basement includes a cafe type of setting, with free coffee and ESPN for those who enjoy the game more than shopping. The center of the store is a chapel, complete with a real bell, not chimed in music. The store is open all year, 9 to 7.
