Georgia Power was originally founded in 1902 running streetcars throughout Atlanta, Georgia. Originally named Atlanta Consolidate Street Railway Company, the company mainly ran streetcars until the 1950’s.

Georgia Power is merged with Savannah Electric & Power Company in 2006. The company owns several hydroelectric dams throughout the state of Georgia, as well as 2 nuclear power plants, the Alvin W. Vogtle plant and the Edwin I. Hatch plant. Georgia Power also has a large coal plant, The Robert W. Scherer Power Plant.
