Fry’s Food Stores Corporate Office

Fry’s Food Stores, also known as Fry’s Food and Drugs, was founded in 1954 in California by Donald Fry. The company operates a chain of supermarkets, mostly in the state of Arizona.

Today, Fry’s Food Stores is a subsidiary of Kroger. The company also goes by other names such as Fry’s Marketplace, Fry’s Signature, and Fry’s Mercado. In June of 2000, the company acquired Fred Meyer‘s stores in Arizona and re-branded those stores as Fry’s Food and Drug.

The company offers upscale grocery items in most locations. Fry’s Mercado caters to the Hispanic community. The company currently has 123 locations and employs at least 22,000 people.

In January 2021, Fry’s parent company Kroger announced that all Kroger and Fry’s Food Stores would have the coronavirus vaccine available, although an exact date has yet to be determined.

In April 2023, Fry’s parent company, Kroger, announced that it would acquire Albertson’s. There is a great deal of opposition to this merger and it is unknown if it will be approved.
