Darigold was founded in 1918 by a group of farmers in the greater Seattle, Washington, area. A contest held in 1920 gave the co-op the name Darigold.

The company is the 5th largest dairy cooperative in the US and one of the largest privately held organizations headquartered in Seattle, Washington.
In June 2021, Darigold revealed intentions to construct a multi-million-dollar production facility in Pasco, Washington, showcasing a substantial commitment to environmentally conscious modernization.
