Convoy is an American trucking software company that was co-founded by current CEO Dan Lewis and Grant Goodale, both former Amazon executives. This Seattle-based startup, called the Uber of trucking by some, uses a digital platform to match trucking companies with shippers. By using technology and data to solve problems of waste and inefficiency in the $800B trucking industry, which generates over 76M metric tons of wasted CO2 emissions from empty trucks, Convoy matches shippers with truckers.
On 25 July 2017, the company raised $62 million in funding. Other new investors included Cascade Investment and Bill Gates, Jeff Bezos, Mosaic Ventures, former U.S. Senator Bill Bradley, and Barry Diller. A current round of funding in December 2019, brought Convoy’s total amount raised to $80 million.
Another big plus is that Convoy pays drivers in 48 hours, not a week or every other week, but 48 hours.
The company has already received acquisition offers, but Goodale says that the company has a bigger vision right now, and they are going for it.
Convoy has the opportunity to transform the trucking industry. The company currently has about 100 routes, many of them concentrated around economic hubs such as Chicago, Michigan, and California.
Headquarters are located in Seattle, Washington.
