Farmer’s Union Central Exchange was founded in St Paul, Minnesota in 1931. The cooperative later became Cenex.
In 1998 Cenex merged with Harvest States Cooperatives to form Cenex Harvest States.
In 2003 Cenex Harvest States changed its name to CHS Inc. Cenex became the name of their energy brand.
The cooperative represents farmers, ranchers, and co-ops, trades grain, sells farm supplies to members through its website, processes soybeans for use in food and animal feeds, and grinds wheat into flour.
In addition to these activities, CHS provides insurance, financial, and risk-management services and operates petroleum refineries to sell Cenex branded fuel and energy products.
