Campbell Soup Company was founded in 1869 by Joseph A. Campbell and Abraham Anderson. The company originally produced canned jellies, vegetables, tomatoes, soups, condiments, and minced meats.
In 1897 John T. Dorrance, a chemist with a degree from MIT, developed a method of condensing soup that was commercially viable.
He became president of the company from 1914 to 1930. He eventually bought out the Campbell family.
By 1972 Campbell Soup Company had become one of the world’s largest food companies, with a brand portfolio including Pepperidge Farms, V8, Swanson, and Godiva.
Today the company has a 90-variety soup portfolio, as well as makes and markets meal kits, SpaghettiOs, Pace picante sauce, Bolthouse Farms organic baby foods and carrots, Pepperidge Farms baked goods, and V8 beverages.
