Sun Communities Corporate Office

Sun Communities was founded in 1975 by Dr. Milton Shiffman. Shiffman began investing in real estate in 1964. Working at the time as a doctor, Shiffman was involved in the development, acquisition, and construction of commercial property in his spare time. In 1975 he established the predecessor to Sun Communities.

Originally called Sun RV Resorts, the company today focuses on building and maintaining mobile home parks.

In 1993, the company went public on the NYSE under the ticker symbol SUI.

In 1996, Sun RV Resorts was again added to the company.

In October 2019, the company acquired a portfolio of 31 manufactured housing communities for $343.6 million.

On Nov. 16, 2021, Sun RV Resorts rebrands to Sun Outdoors.

In February 2023, the Connecticut State Attorney General opened an inquiry into the Beechwood Sun Community stating that the department had received multiple complaints about renters who saw their rent increased after complaining about poor living conditions.
