Houlihan’s Restaurant and Bar Corporate Office

Houlihan’s Restaurant and Bar, usually referred to as simply Houlihan’s, was founded in 1972 in Kansas City, Kansas, by Paul Robinson and Joe Gilbert. The company operates a chain of casual restaurants, most of them with full bars, across the US.

As of 2015, the company had 84 restaurants in 18 states, with approximately 60 percent of these being franchised operations. Since 2006,  a private equity firm, Goldner Hawn Johnson Morrison, has held a majority ownership stake in the restaurant chain. The company has said that they are looking to expand the number of locations in 2017.

Houlihan’s Restaurant offers a wide variety of food, including center cut steaks, flat bread pizzas, salads, hamburgers and wraps. Bars serve wine, wings, and “Small Bites” appetizers that often win local “Happy Hour” awards.

McAlister’s Deli Corporate Office

McAlister’s Deli was founded in 1989 in Oxford, Mississippi, by retired dentist Dr. Don Newcomb. The original restaurant was a renovated gas station. Most locations today still copy the old-fashioned “gas station” look today, including black and white floor tiles, and “garage” style doors.

Today, McAlister’s Deli operates a chain of 350 mostly franchised locations in 26 states. The company offers catering services, as well as a large selection of sandwiches, salads, oversized baked potatoes, and boxed “to-go” lunches. McAlister’s operates as a subsidiary of Focus Brands.

The company has received several awards, including Best Franchise Deal in 2014 by QSR, being listed in FastCasual’s list of Top 100 Movers and Shakers in 2013, as well as being named Top Casual Fast Food award in both 2013 and 2014.

McAlister’s Deli continues to open new locations, such as this one in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, in March 2023. 

As of 2021, the company has 5,000 locations.

Braum’s was founded in 1968 by Mary and Bill Braum of Tuttle, Oklahoma. The company operates a chain of casual burger restaurants, small grocery stores, and ice cream shops in Oklahoma.

As of late 2013, the company had 128 stores in Oklahoma, 13 in Missouri, 13 in Arkansas, 99 in Texas, and 27 in Kansas. Since all goods are made or grown fresh at the farm in Tuttle, the company will not open a location more than 300 miles from the farm to ensure freshness.

The Braum family owns 8 farms, with a total of 40,000 acres. It is the only ice cream maker in America which owns the cows that provide the cream for their products.

As of August 2022, the company has 307 locations, mostly in and around Oklahoma.

Back Yard Burgers was founded in Cleveland, Mississippi, in 1987 by Michael Lattimore. The company originally began offering only drive through service, but has since upgraded to casual, fast food restaurants.

The company operates a chain of burger and chicken sandwich restaurants across the US. There are currently 86 locations, most of them franchised. Back Yard Burgers tries to differentiate themselves from other burger restaurants by using only Angus beef in their burgers, as well as offering different sides, such as potato salad, baked potatoes, as well as offering a vegetarian burger.

This sandwich is still the signature favorite of the restaurant.

Today, Primanti Brothers operates a chain of casual restaurants, which feature Joe’s sandwiches. There are 16 locations throughout the Pittsburgh area and a few more on the Eastern seaboard. It has long been a tradition to have a Primanti Brothers sandwich after the local bars close at 2 AM.

The company has been named in several publications and television shows, including National Geographic and Man vs. Food. In 2008. President Obama and Jon Stewart visited a Primanti Brothers restaurant after Stewart recommended that the President try one of their famous sandwiches.

In 2022, President Biden and Senate candidate John Fetterman visited a Primanti Brothers location in Pittsburgh.
