Carvana, founded in 2013 by the owner of Drivetime Earnest Garcia II, sells inspected, certified cars online with a seven-day “test buy” period, passing on savings to consumers who can bypass dealerships and sales commissions.

The company allows clients to shop, finance, and even trade in their current used car, all online. Cars can be transferred nationwide and are generally picked up at what is known as “vending machine” sites, which accept a special type of coin that is mailed to the customer after the sale has been completed. Using the company’s online 360 viewing camera, clients can inspect every part of the vehicle, inside and out.

Carvana is listed as #34 on the 2017 Inc. 5000 list of Fastest Growing Companies in America. In 2016, the company had annual revenue of $365.1 million and a three-year growth rate of 7,925%. The company also took the #1 spot on the Inc. list of Top Arizona Companies & Top Phoenix Companies, as well as the #2 spot for Top Retail Companies.

In April of 2018, Carvana and Ford made a short-term agreement to advertise and sell more Ford used cars on the Carvana app. It is unknown at this time if the agreement will be renewed.

The company also ranked 5th on the Forbes 2015 list of America’s Most Promising Companies. Carvana has distribution centers in Atlanta, Georgia; Nashville, Tennessee; and Charlotte, North Carolina. The company also has a physical presence in Houston, Austin, Dallas, San Antonio, and Pittsburgh, Texas; and St. Louis, Missouri.

In order to fight the coronavirus, the company launched a virtual tour of its most impressive cars, including a Porsche 911, in September 2020.

Also in September 2020, the company announced that it was hiring 100 new employees at its Tolleson, Arizona, inspection station.

In April 2022, the company suffered its first loss and stock prices dropped.

In October 2022, the state of Michigan suspended Carvana’s dealer license for repeated violations, including failure to obtain titles for new car buyers.

Carvana maintains a corporate office in Phoenix, Arizona.

Subway was founded in 1965 by founder and former CEO Fred DeLuca and Peter Buck. The first restaurant was called Pete’s Super Submarines and was located in Bridgeport, Connecticut. A then 17-year-old DeLuca borrowed $1,000 from his friend Peter Buck to start the sandwich shop.

In 1968, they began using the name Subway.

History

By 1974, there were 16 stores. The duo wanted to expand more quickly, so they began to franchise.

In 1977, the “Snak” sub is introduced. This later becomes the 6″ sub.

By 1982, there were 300 locations.

In 1984, the first franchise outside North America opened in Bahrain.

By 1987, there were 1000 locations.

By 1990, there were 5000 locations. The chain also expands to Mexico this year.

By 1995, there are 11,000 locations.

In 2002, Subway surpasses McDonald’s in the number of total restaurants.

Jared Fogel was a featured spokesperson for the chain in 2000 after he claimed that he lost 200 pounds mostly by eating 6-inch Subway sandwiches. The chain dropped Fogel when he was forced to plead guilty to child pornography and child molestation charges.

The company makes approximately 5,300 sandwiches every minute and uses about 18 acres worth of lettuce every single day.

In 2013, an Australian teenager posted on Facebook that Subway’s footlong subs were actually only 11 inches in length. Others found that this was true at their Subway shops as well and a lawsuit was filed in 2012. In 2017, the case was settled: Subway agreed to institute practices to ensure its footlongs are actually 12 inches and paid $520,000 in legal fees and $500 to each of the 10 individuals who filed suit.

Founder Fred DeLuca passed away in 2015.

Today, there are almost 42,000 Subway restaurants in 112 countries worldwide. It is the largest single restaurant chain in the world.

In April 2018, the company announced that it would either close or relocate approximately 500 locations in the US to improve overall company profitability.

Current CEO Suzanne Greco announced that she was stepping down in June of 2018. The company is considering hiring their first non-family member as CEO of the company.

In January 2019, a customer snapped a photo of a Subway employee putting her bare feet on the counter where sandwiches were made, prompting the health department to respond.

In October 2020, a court in Ireland stated that Subway’s bread contained too much sugar to be classified as bread and therefore, cannot be considered a food staple. This means Subway no longer qualifies for a tax deduction that is available in Ireland.

Subway hired soccer star Megan Rapinoe as a spokesperson but after she knelt in front of the US flag to protest police violence, franchises asked the company to drop her in August 2021.

Orangetheory Fitness was founded in 2010 by current CEO David Long. The company operates a chain of boutique fitness franchised gym studios.

The Orangetheory Fitness class is a HIIT training program that allows for short periods of intense exercise, followed by short rest periods. HIIT programs have been shown to burn fat and calories for as long as 36 hours after exercise has stopped.

Members can book classes through the Orangetheory cell phone app which displays the location, day, and time of open classes as well as which coach will be teaching. Members have the option to book classes at any OTF location around the world.

History

Each participant has the option to wear a heart rate monitor that is synchronized to the screen that all participants can see.

Many testimonies show that people who regularly attend classes and watch their diet lose considerable amounts of weight.

Brooklinen has expanded from bedding to bath towels, robes, shower mats, and more.

Brooklinen grew at an astounding rate, earning $25 million in the first two years of business.
