CHS Inc.

CHS Inc. is one of the country’s leading cooperative marketers of oilseed, grain, and energy resources.

Farmer’s Union Central Exchange was founded in St Paul, Minnesota in 1931. The cooperative later became Cenex.

In 1998 Cenex merged with Harvest States Cooperatives to form Cenex Harvest States.

History

In 2003 Cenex Harvest States changed its name to CHS Inc. Cenex became the name of their energy brand.

The cooperative represents farmers, ranchers, and co-ops, trades grain, sells farm supplies to members through its website, processes soybeans for use in food and animal feeds, and grinds wheat into flour.

In addition to these activities,  CHS provides insurance, financial, and risk-management services and operates petroleum refineries to sell Cenex branded fuel and energy products.

Community Health Systems was formed by E. Thomas Chaney, Charles Miller and Richard Ragsdale in 1985.

The company went public in 1991 and was purchased by Forstmann Little & Company in 1996 and taken private again.

Community Health Systems went public again in 2000.

History

In 2003 the company acquired Southside Regional Medical Center, in 2007 McKenzie-Willamette Hospital, and in 2013 Health Management Associates for $3.6 billion.

Today Community Health Systems owns or leases 200 hospitals in 29 states, mostly in rural areas. These hospitals have a total of 31,000 beds and offer a variety of medical, surgical, and emergency services with a handful of specialty centers.

Community Health Systems trades publicly on the New York Stock Exchange under the symbol CHY, is a member of the S&P 400, is #191 in the Fortune 500, has 69,000 employees, and had $13.92 billion in revenue in 2013.

Two important acquisitions for PPG were SigmaKalon Group in 2008 for $3.2 billion and AkzoNobel North America, including the brands Glidden, Liquid Nails and Flood, in 2013.
