Wait Just a Minute, Home Depot, Investors Have a Few Questions

x

While other businesses might be struggling, Home Depot has had a nice little run with the numbers lately. This building supply company has been reporting improved earnings and is expected to continue to do so when it makes its report about quarterly earnings on February 23rd.

Analysts expect the company to report yet another increase in quarterly profits, adding to a string of improved growth lately. Home Depot is expected to earn $1.10 per share, which is up from their $1.00 per share price at this same time last year. Analysts are also expecting revenues to increase for the next quarter as well.

Home Depot had annual revenue last year of $19.2 billion. This year, the company is expected to have annual revenue of $20.4 billion. Even with excellent reports such as these, investors have a few questions for Home Depot about their forecast and the direction of the company.

History

  1. Are Home Depot’s long term financial targets reasonable? The company laid out plans through 2018 for interconnecting retail and financial targets but it might be a bit early to tell if these plans will pan out. 2018 is still quite a ways in the distance!
  2. Can the company maintain short term guidance? Home Depot raised guidance when it released its first-quarter results of fiscal 2015 . It raised its forecast again with its second-quarter results.  So far, these have been on target but the fourth quarter is the true culmination of these predictions.
  3.  Will average ticket growth pick up again? While the number of actual transactions has been rising, the price of each sale, or ticket, has been falling in each of the past four quarters.

Can Home Depot keep up with a strong comparable sales growth? Beyond all the basics and forecasts, investors will most likely want answers to these questions when the next report comes out.

The Redesigned Honda Civic: Bomb or Bust?

x

After allowing the basic Honda Civic to languish in no man’s land for several years, Honda has once again revamped their staple in 2016. We take a look at what has been done to this Honda favorite and see if it’s a bomb or a bust.

We are happy to report that while the Civic is tinier than ever, it’s pretty darn awesome. Customers can chose from two different 4 cylinder engines (the naturally aspired 2.0 or the direct injected 1.5 liter turbo) as well as a newly remodeled CVT transmission. This is good news for those who were so annoyed with the noise from the previous version that you looked forward to motorcycles pulling up next to you to drown out the sound.

Perhaps one of the best things about the new Civic is that it doesn’t look or feel cheap. The redesigned car has brushed aluminum trim, soft synthetic door coverings that don’t rattle or feel like a kid’s toy. The instrument panel has a speedo and tech in the middle, the lights are big but not annoying, and the rear cabin feels huge.

History

If you are one of those people who believe that only expensive cars are truly quiet, you will be impressed with the lowly Civic. To reduce noise of all kinds, the Civic has triple sealed doors and soundproofing on both the roof and floor. The Civic EX models (and above) have keyless entry, remote start, remote link climate control, and walkaway auto lock.

Let’s not forget gas mileage. A  real workout using an average driver (not a computer simulation) found the turbo model averaging about 25 MPG. Officially, the mileage lists 35 MPG as combined mileage.

If you really want to go all out, American Honda is offering a Touring version that includes the turbo powered model, LED headlamps, 10 speaker audio system, navigation system, and leather seats for a cool $27,335.

The bottom line? The new Civic is fun to drive, super quiet, good on gas, and looks good in the driveway. What more could anyone ask for?

SeaWorld Parks and Entertainment Corporate Office

SeaWorld

Seaworld Parks and Entertainment, most often referred to as simply SeaWorld, is a family oriented entertainment company. Originally owned by Anehauser-Busch, SeaWorld was created as a subsidiary in March of 1960 to operate an assortment of Busch theme parks. Anehauser-Busch sold this division to The BlackStone Group in December of 2009.

SeaWorld currently has 6 theme parks and more than 22,000 employees. This publicly traded company (NYSE: SEAS) has recently fallen on hard times with the release of a CNN documentary entitled Blackfish in 2013. The documentary is highly critical of SeaWorld’s handling of their infamous killer whale exhibits. SeaWorld stated that this documentary had hurt their revenues at most parks, especially their San Diego location, and that stock revenues had fallen 44%.

The company announced that CEO Jim Atchison was resigning in December of 2014 and was replaced with Joel Manby. Total income has dropped more than 3% between 2014 and 2015 and park visitors have fallen by more tha 100,000.
