In 2016, the company acquired Life Storage for $1.3 billion. Following this acquisition, the company rebranded all units to the Life Storage name.

In February 2023, Public Storage announced that it would make a bid for Life Storage at $11 billion. Public Storage had tried earlier to acquire Life Storage but was unsuccessful.

As of 2023, Life Storage had more than 1,100 facilities in 37 states.

Brothers Phil and Floyd Landry began their business by opening cajun seafood restaurants in the Houston, Texas, area in 1980.

Tilman Fertitta became CEO and quickly began standardizing the appearance and menus of the restaurants; removing the Cajun spicing from most dishes and scrubbing away the unique interior of Willie G’s.

In 2010, Landry’s, Inc., acquired three new restaurants: Bubba Gump Shrimp Company, Claim Jumper, and The Oceanaire, a national collection of seafood restaurants, known for flying in fresh fish daily.

In 2011, Landry’s bought two more restaurants, McCormick & Schmick’s Seafood, and Morton’s The Steakhouse.

In 2012, the company expanded its entertainment division, opening the Galveston Island Historic Pleasure Pier.

Today, Landry’s is an American, privately owned, multi-brand dining, hospitality, entertainment, and gaming corporation. The company owns and operates more than 600 restaurants, hotels, casinos, and entertainment destinations in 35 US states as well as the District of Columbia. Help at Home was founded in 1975 by Chris Hocevar after working for Cigna for nearly 2 decades. The company offers in-home health services for the disabled, patients with mental challenges, seniors, rehabilitation services, and memory care for those with dementia.

As of 2022, the company has 42,000 caregivers who provide services to more than 65,000 patients. Help at Home services are offered in 13 states and the company plans on expanding to all 50 states.

In November 2020, Help at Home was acquired by a consortium that includes Centerbridge Partners and The Vistria Group.

Concentra Occupational Health

Concentra was founded in Amarillo, Texas, by three physicians who opened an occupational health care center in 1979. The company expanded to a second location in 1985.

The original name was Occucenter and in 2001, after merging with two other healthcare companies, all locations were rebranded as Concentra.

The company began its urgent care project in 2007 in response to the rising need for a cost-effective alternative to hospital emergency rooms for non-emergency ailments.

History

More than 30,000 patients visit Concentra’s medical centers every single day. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, Concentra treats one out of every seven occupational injuries in the United States.

In 2009, workers sued WalMart, CMI, and Concentra for “interfer[ing] with and limit[ing] the independent judgment of certain medical providers who treated injured workers employed by [WalMart] in Colorado who sustained on-the-job injuries”.

Concentra tried to have the suit dropped and fought the charges for three years. Judge Robert Blackburn approved a settlement of $8 million, requiring Concentra to pay $4 million, through its insurer, and Wal-Mart and CMI to pay the other half. Concentra was ordered to pay $520 to each Walmart employee that had been treated at one of its offices and $50 to employees who were treated at other clinics.

It was recently revealed that Concentra workers must give the company 4 months’ notice before leaving or quitting. If they fail to do so, they must pay the company in order to leave.
