Zippo was founded in 1932 by George G. Blaisdell in Bradford, Pennsylvania. After watching a friend try to use a cumbersome lighter, Blaisdell decided to redesign the lighter. He chose the name Zippo simply because he liked how it sounded.

The company specializes in lighters, but has also manufactures knives, smoking accessories, perfume, watches, as well as heating devices for the outdoor enthusiast. In 2010, the company acquired a major competitor, Ronson Consumer Products, who also made lighters. In 2012, the company sold its 500 millionth lighter.

Zippo is owned and operated by Blaisdell’s grandson, George Duke. There is a museum to lighters at company headquarters. Zippo lighters have a lifetime repair warranty, regardless of ownership. Some lighters are highly collectable pieces, fetching thousands of dollars.

Don Pablo’s was founded in Lubbock, Texas, in 1985. The company operates a chain of Tex-Mex fast food restaurants in the US.

The company grew rapidly, expanding first in Texas, then in the midwestern states in the 1990’s. At one time, the company was second in popularity and size only to Chi Chi’s restaurants. The chain has not done so well into the 2000’s, causing it to be sold several times. Slowly, franchises and company owned locations were forced to close their doors. There are only 9 locations as of July of 2017.

Don Pablo’s is currently owned by Food Management Partners,with headquarters in San Antonio, Texas. Food Management Partners also owns Buffalo Wild Wings and several other restaurant chains.
