Tinder was founded by Sean Rad, Jonathan Badeen, Justin Mateen, Joe Munoz, Alexa Mateen, Dinesh Moorjani, and Whitney Wolfe. Wolfe later left the company to start her own dating app, Bumble.

The app was originally designed as a chat device but most people today use it as a dating app. By swiping to the right, a user “likes” another user’s profile. When both parties “like” each other, they are able to chat. A swipe to the left is a “dislike”. The app has proved to be so popular that within two years, the company stated it was registering 1 million swipes each day. Tinder is one of the first apps to use the swiping motion.

History

In 2013, the company won the Best New App award by online site TechCrunch. The company stated that they had 10 million users as of 2014 and had an estimated annual revenue in 2018 of $800 million.

Since it’s inception in 2012, the app has been downloaded more than 100 million times. An estimated 79% of users are millennials.

The company introduced new emojis for 2019, which included people in wheelchairs, interracial couples, and people with service dogs.

Company headquarters are located in West Hollywood, California, however, recent reports state that the company has plans to move to the Silicon Valley sometimes in 2019.

Santander Bank can trace its roots back more than 100 years to 1902 when it was founded as Sovereign Bank in Wyomissing, Pennsylvania. Going back even further, Banco Santander was founded in Spain in 1857. During the 1920’s Santander began rapidly expanding, starting branches in the US. In June 2006, Sovereign Bank acquired Santander and decided to rename the company, Santander.

The company had annual revenue in 2013 of $3.345 billion and employed almost 10,000 persons in the US.

History

In 2011, Santander moved its headquarters from Wyomissing, Pennslyvania, to Boston, Massachusetts. All branches, including international branches, formerly named Sovereign Bank, were rebranded by the end of 2013.

The bank offers an array of financial services and products including retail banking, home mortgages, corporate banking, credit cards, cash management, insurance, and trust and wealth management services.

In March 2015, Scott Powell was appointed to be the head of U.S. business at Santander, and CEO of Santander Holdings USA, replacing Roman Blanco.

In December 2018, Santander named David Harnisch to be the head of their commercial banking division.

Blaze Pizza was founded by Rick and Elise Wetzel in 2011. The name comes from the quick way that pizza’s are cooked; taking only 3 minutes on average.

Customers order similar to the way Subway sandwich shops work, with customers choosing their toppings as they walk down the service line, then picking up their pizza at the end. The Blaze ovens are 7 foot-wide gas-fired units that operate at average temperatures of 700 °F (371 °C) to 800 °F (427 °C). Since the high-temperature gas-fired pizza oven is the only piece of cooking equipment inside each of the restaurants, the same oven is also used to roast the chicken, cook the Italian sausage and meatballs, and bake some of the desserts.

History

In 2016, the company signed agreements which allowed them to operate locations inside buildings, such as college campus’ or airport terminals.

In 2017, the company posted earnings of $279 million, a 51% increase over the previous year, causing concern among bigger pizza operations, such as Dominoe’s.

Blaze Pizza went international in 2015, opening locations in Canada, and then in Kuwait and Saudi Arabia in 2018.

Huddle House Corporate Office

Huddle House was founded by Randy Sparks as a restaurant that sports fans could go to after the game. The company offers a menu similar to IHOP and allows customers to order any food item, regardless of the time of day.

The company has been sold several times over the years. Currently, the Huddle House is owned by private equity firm Sentinel Captial Partners, who acquired the chain in 2018.

History

There are currently 349 locations, with most of these being franchises. The company announced in February 2019 that they planned to make smaller locations, with no more than 2,000 square feet, in order to cut their carbon footprint as well as to make the restaurants more affordable to franchisors.

While many restaurants are closing down due to the pandemic of 2020, Huddle House is opening new locations in Tennessee and Alabama.

Huddle House maintains its corporate office in Atlanta, Georgia.

Founded in 1999 by Betsey Z. Cohen, The Bancorp can trace it roots back to 1974, when Cohen founded Jefferson Bank in Philadelphia and served as chairman and CEO of the bank and its holding company, JeffBanks Inc. In 1999, she sold the $1.8 billion asset company for over $370 million.

History

Later that same year, Cohen founded The Bancorp, a virtual bank providing services to small and mid-size businesses and the Greater Philadelphia market area through its community bank. The bank offered private-label affinity group programs for organizations and institutions, including merchant card servicing. Today, The Bancorp is a bank holding company. The Bank offers services including interest-bearing checking accounts, a full line of loan products, and online bill payment. Bancorp operates in the States of Delaware and Pennsylvania.

The company is listed on the NYSE under the ticker symbol: TBBK.

Founder Betsey Z. Cohen retired in 2014. The Bancorp has been dealing with regulatory issues, as the FDIC hit it with a consent order in June connected to its anti-money laundering compliance.

In May 2018, the company was fined $2 million by the FDIC for charging excessive prepaid card fees.

Headquarters for The Bancorp remain in Wilmington, Delaware.
