Ken Fisher is an American investment analyst and one of the richest men in the world. His father was also an investment advisor. He graduated with a degree in economics in 1972. In 1979, with $250, Fisher started his own investment firm, Fisher Investments in San Francisco, California.

Fisher was the first to use a practice called price-to-sales ratio to gauge his stock buying. Fisher defined his investment philosophy after studying the stock returns and P/E ratios between January 1976 and June 1995 ousing six investment categories: big-cap value, midcap value, small-cap value, big-cap growth, midcap growth, and small-cap growth.

History

Fisher served as CEO until 2016 and now works as Chairman of the company. Fisher Investments and its subsidiaries manage over $100 billion in assets for individual investors and institutional investors around the world. The firm maintains four principal business units: Fisher Investments Institutional Group, Fisher Investments Private Client Group, Fisher Investments 401(k) Solutions Group and Fisher Investments International Group.

While the company has some of the highest fees in the industry, it also outperforms nearly every other investment firm. Fisher typically makes bold statements and predictions, including saying that the Federal Reserve doesn’t matter as much as people think it does.

At a private “power lunch” meeting on October 8th, 2019, Fisher was recorded making sexist comments during his speech. He compared attaining new clients to picking up girls at a bar. Fisher has since apologized for his comments, calling them inappropriate, but his comments have snowballed into a huge loss for the company, with at least 6 large government pension or investment firms pulling their money out of the company. This loss currently stands at $2.7 billion.

Fisher has been banned from doing interviews or giving speeches for the time being.

Barrio Tacos was founded in 2012 by friends Joe Kahn, Tom Leneghan, & Sean Fairbairn. The company operates a small chain of Mexican food restaurants that specialize in “build your own tacos,” along with alcoholic beverages.

Restaurants feature an intricate wall mural and a Day of the Dead theme. Food trucks are often found at local events and catering and delivery service are also offered.

History

The company now has 6 locations in Ohio, one in New Hampshire, and one is scheduled to open in late 2019 or early 2020 in East Lansing, Michigan.

The co-founders are involved in a lawsuit over copyright infringement and breach of contract after former co-founder and owner Joe Kahn started his own taco business Condado’s Tacos.

David Chu and his family immigrated from Taiwan in the early 1960s. Chu attended the New York Fashion Institute and began to design men’s coats that resembled old fashioned sailor suits. The coats were instant hits in the upscale New York men’s clothing stores. Chu named his company Nautica, which is an offshoot of the Latin word “Nauticus”, which means ship.

Today, the company sells a variety of men’s, women’s, and children’s clothing, watches, shoes, perfume, towels, linen, and more. Nautica has 170 stores around the world and the brand is sold in a variety of retail locations.

History

Nautica is generally priced between mid-range brands and premium designer brands, making it a popular choice for those seeking quality but aren’t necessarily interested in big-name brands.

In March 2018, Authentic Brands, Inc., acquired Nautica for an undisclosed sum.

In October 2019, the company decided to relaunch its Nautica Jeans brand, competing directly with Aeropostale.

New Balance filed a lawsuit against Nautica stating that the company’s use of the capital letter “N” on their shoes and other items was a copyright infringement.

Conde Montrose Nast, a New York City publisher, purchased Vogue magazine in 1909. He had purchased the magazine earlier and believed that it had great possibilities. Nast continued to publish Vogue under the Vogue name until he incorporated the Conde Nast name in 1923.

Nast had a flair for creating interesting stories for women and the magazine soon became the number one source regarding fashion. Nast began expanding his magazine empire, creating House and Garden and Vanity Fair. The first full-color photograph on the cover of Vogue, rather than drawings, was published in 1932. It was innovative, at the time, but required Nast to build his own printing shop.

History

Today, Conde Nast is a media giant, with more than 84 million print customers, 384 million on social media, and 366 million in digital media. Magazines published by the company include Allure, Wired, Architectural Digest, Vogue, Ars Technica, Vanity Fair, The New Yorker, Backchannel, Teen Vogue, Bon Appetit, Self, Conde Nast Traveller, Pitchfork, GQ, Glamour, and Epicurious.

Conde Nast has discontinued many magazines due to lack of readership over the years including Modern Bride, Men’s Vogue, Golf for Women, Golf Digest, Mademoiselle, Vogue Living, and Jane.

In 2017, the company cut more than 80 jobs and stopped the paper production of Teen Vogue, focusing solely on the digital platform.

Conde Nast China dismissed an anonymous letter sent to the corporate office regarding Chinese publisher Paco Tang, which accused him of kickbacks and embezzlement in September 2019.

The company offers a subscription service of snack boxes for companies, large or small. Snack boxes can be personalized for individuals or larger boxes can be ordered for entire offices.

History

Clients include leading brands such as Microsoft, Uber, Marriott, Travelocity, NFL Networks and others. The company acquired snack subscription service Edgilife in November 2018.

SnackNation was listed as #352 on the 2019 Inc. 5000 list of Fastest Growing Companies in America, with a three-year growth rate of 1,293%, annual revenue in 2018 of $24.2 million and was #10 for Top Food and Beverage Companies.

SnackNation also donates 10 meals to the Feeding America program for every snack box sold.
