Valmont Industries Corporate Office

Valmont Industries was founded by Robert B. Daugherty when he invested in a small manufacturing company run by inventor Sam McCleneghan in Valley, Nebraska in 1946.

He later helped to develop the center pivot irrigation pipe that changed farming.

Today Valmont Industries operates through four divisions: Engineered Infrastructure Projects, Irrigation, Utilities Support Structures, and Coatings. The company also manufactures tubular products and distributes industrial fasteners.

The company is publicly traded on the New York Stock Exchange under the ticker symbol VMI, is a member of the S&P 400, is $682 in the Fortune 1000, has 10,769 employees, and had $3.19 billion in revenue in 2013.

First Solar was founded in 1984 by inventor and entrepreneur Harold McMaster as Glasstech Solar. The aim of the new company was to manufacture low-cost solar panels. Glasstech Solar was succeeded by Solar Cells Inc. in 1990 and the Florida Corporation in 1993.

In 1999 McMaster sold the company to an investment arm of the Walton family named True North Partners, which changed its name to First Solar.

First Solar began producing commercial solar panels in 2002.
