Covance Corporate Office

Covance was founded in 1968 as Environmental Sciences Corporation in Seattle, Washington.

In 1972 the company bought Hazleton Laboratories, a laboratory that conducted toxicology testing, and took on that name. By 1982, Hazleton had become the largest biological testing company in the U.S.

Covance was purchased by Labcorp in 2014 in a $6.1 billion deal.

Today the company provides testing services, including toxicology studies and biostatistical analysis for pharmaceutical and biotech companies. Other clients include companies in the food, agrochemical, and chemical industries. The company also provides testing services which include designing and realizing human clinical trials.

Worthington Industries was founded in 1955 when John H. McConnell borrowed $600 to produce custom-processed steel. His venture had sales of $342,000 its first year. The company quickly began to build processing facilities to handle high demand for its products. In 1976 Worthington Industries reached $100 million in sales for the first time.

Today the company is one of the biggest steel processors in the United States. Products include flat-rolled steel, automotive panels, metal framing, and cylinders, with a niche market for flat-rolled steel made to exact customer specifications.

In 1962 Albemarle bought the Ethyl Corporation, a company more than ten times it size, in a $200 million deal. Ethyl Corporation was a manufacturer of a gasoline additive, tetraethyllead.
