KitchenAid was founded in 1919 by the Hobart Corporation, after an employee, Herbert Johnston, invented a tabletop, stand-alone mixer. after watching a baker use a similar, but large-scale dough mixing machine. Today, the company manufactures a wide range of household appliances.
Originally intended only for industrial use, the company designed a more streamlined product for homemakers. The company expanded into other home appliances in 1949, beginning with dishwashers. Today, the company produces numerous products for the kitchen, including mixers, refrigerators, freezers, electric kettles, stoves, ovens, microwaves, and their original stand-alone mixer, which now comes in a wide range of colors, including purple.
Today, KitchenAid operates as a subsidiary of Whirlpool. Some appliances are made in the US, others in China. The metal components of the company’s mixer are made at various plants around the world but are hand finished in the US to ensure smooth operation.
Every KitchenAid mixer since the introduction of the Model “K” has allowed for cross-generational attachment compatibility, meaning that attachments from the 1930s can be used on modern mixers, and vice versa.
In September of 2018, Forbes listed KitchenAid as one of the most trusted brands in the US.
Company headquarters for the parent company are located in Benton Harbor, Michigan.

We sent this letter by USPS Priority Mail on December 18, 2021.
No response for over two months.
Dear Mr. Fettig,
Just over two years ago when we moved into our newly constructed home, we were excited to see that all the installed appliances were KitchenAid. At about that time, Forbes listed KitchenAid as one of the most trusted brands in the US.
However, the number of problems we have had with KitchenAid appliances in that two-year period have caused us to lose our trust in the brand. Here’s the list of issues we have experienced:
Microwave/Oven Combination
Microwave:
o Unit quit heating on Thanksgiving weekend
o Error code “F1E5 Inverter Not Responding”
o $100 charge from authorized KitchenAid service provider for initial examination
o No diagnosis provided other than to order both inverter and magnetron
o During repair appointment, technician said both parts likely need to be replaced
o Technician installed inverter first and oven still did not heat
o Technician then installed magnetron and oven was back in operation
o Approximately 30 days of lost usage
o Total expenditure of nearly $800 for examination and installation of new parts
Oven:
o Wildly inaccurate oven temperature, sometimes low, sometimes high
o Calibrated per owner’s manual, but still not reliable
o Unusual vibration/noise when in use
Refrigerator:
o Vegetable Drawer cracked during first year. Almost $100 to replace.
o Sticky gray sealant leaking onto floor from bottom of left-side door
Induction Cooktop
o Recalled almost immediately
o First replacement unit arrived broken
o Second replacement now working fine
o Nearly 30 days lost usage
Of course, all the KitchenAid appliances in our new home are now out of warranty.
But I think you will agree that what we have experienced is not commensurate with “one of the most trusted brands in the US”.
I hope you will find an appropriate way to compensate us for the challenges we have dealt with.
Thank you for your consideration.
Sincerely,
Peter Goodwin and Mary Anderson

Did you ever get a reply, Peter. I am a fellow consumer with a very similar set of issues with a oven/microwave I purchased in 2021.

We purchased a complete kitchen package in late 2017, house build was complete in January 2018 thats when appliance were installed. fast forward to spring 2021 Microwave no longer keating, called, text numerous time just to get NOWHERE very very dissapointed in kitchenaid. to purchase a replacement of the same would cost 800 + !! I had a cheap (under 200) differnt brand microwave in our previos for well over 10 years and never once had an issue so as much as I would like my kitchen appliances to match there will be no way in he** I will be paying their price when it seems their appliances are short lived.

I have a new gas range that I am unable to use. Before we closed on our house a message was coming up stating that the broil 500 is set….tried to use cancel but it keeps coming back on so now our stove electronic ignition is disconnected; we can’t use the oven and need a match to light the burner. A circuit board was replaced but did not solve issue. This is such a safety issue. I have contacted Kitchenaid for 3 months with this issue; for one month since they did the “repair” which did not fix issue I have been calling but no one answers my call; after 30 minutes of being on hold I hang up. I got a message stating I should contact the safety department of Kitchenaid and again no one answers and I am on hold. I cannot feel comfortable leaving my house with my stove on, that’s if they “fix” the issue. If the stove causes my house to catch on fire who is responsible? Who is responsible if someone is injured?
All I’m asking for is a new stove but no one seems to think I should get one
I have had Kitchenaid products for all my homes I have lived in. This is the first “lemon” I have gotten. I’d like the CEO to address this issue seeing as a customer I am paying his salary

I have never been so sorry about a decision in my life. your service is horrible and your appliances breakdown almost immediately–that is if they work to begin with., Just spent over my 2 ½ hours on hold. My microwave starting arching and a burn spot appear on the ceiling of the oven space. I called, explained and was supposedly transfer to a special team because of the hazard–I wanted for 45 minutes…..nothing. I hung up and called again–and lo and behold the same thing happened. Really????
First. the appliances should not be breaking and two the service is the worst I have seen any where. I am actually attempting to talk to the executive team now—and guess what–I’ve been transferred and am on hole. AVOID KITCHEN AID AT ALL COSTS!!!
I thought I was buying the best–wat a joke.

very poor design and customer service. I spent $6,000 on KitchenAid appliances and feel terrible every time I look at them.
1. The microwave above the range: a) the handle gets so hot when using the range, I need a hot pad to open it. VERY POOR DESIGN
2. The vent on the microwave does not completely vent outside and I have grease (?) marks on my cabinets and handles above the microwave. VERY POOR ENGINEERING
The service rep who came out to see the problem told me to place something over the vent- that is like putting a band-aid on open heart surgery!

After reading all of the comments I now know why your site does not have an e-mail address. This should go directly to Jeff Fettig. We purchased a dishwasher, range, range hood and a refrigerator ALL Kitchen Aid. The Hobart name steered us to it since I am a Mechanical Engineer by trade. I have written to your customer service many times particularly about the refrigerator ice jam ups. Their reply was “sorry your not making ice” which totally was a placating response. We have had the repairmen come out several times but he told us that this is because you eliminated the metering valve. I have pictures of the most recent un jam which happens every other day. If you want I can send them to you (several 4 or 5 cubes stuck together that the spiral pushed down to the dispenser chute without breaking up.

Jeff Fettig,
KitchenAid Dishwasher, “Premium product”…Not So MUCH!
This product is Definitely “Quiet”. After only 2.5 years of use it “Quietly” emptied its water contents onto my one year old WOOD FLOORS…Causing $4K of Damage! Obviously, this product is built with CHEAP parts, as this problem was caused by a one inch defective rubber Grommet (Kitchenaide wanted $350.00, found online for $16.00)! I noticed all the 5 Star reviews, then notice most have “incentivized review” noted to the side. You have to PAY FOR A GOOD REVIEW! Why don’t you just make a 5 Star Product! My “Louder” 14 Yr Old Kenmore (never leaked), was upgraded to your Kitchenaid Trash. How about you incentivize me by FIXING THE DAMAGE TO MY FLOOR YOUR PRODUCT CAUSED! I would not recommend your product to an enemy, much less a friend.

I purchased a French Door Bottom Mont Refrigerator. I’ve had (9) service calls regarding this Refrigerator now going on my 10th call.
I will be contacting the Attorney General in Benton Mi, and also forwarding a complaint letter to Kitchen Aid’s Corp Office, with all my documentation.
This type of non-service should not be happening. People work hard to purchase what you think are good products but in reality they aren’t.

Just wanted you to know how much I have enjoyed my kitchen aid mixer. I’ve had it since the 80’s. Works like brand new. The color is outdated. Ugly dull yellow. Just got through mixing 12 double batch’s Xmas cookies. Still works smooth.

I hate Kitchenaid. Your company sucks.
I spent a lot of money on your ‘high end’ cooktop. It was the most expensive and I was assured it was the best.
It worked for a few years… then the major components needed replacing for $800. Now. 2 years after it was supposedly 100%… again. Repairs. They want $1300 just for the parts. JUST FOR THE PARTS.
You should be ashamed of yourself. For selling such garbage to people. I struggle to make a living. I invested in your company thinking that this unit would last – at least 15 years. I didn’t get four years out of it before things went tits up.
I’m so pissed off right now. And I’ve received NO HELP from you. Our repair company contacted your tech dept. We were given a case ID number. We were told to phone your company to see what could be done for us. Since the brains were only 2 years old.
Your company said that there was no such Case ID number. That we had never contacted them before. And that they had never heard of this repair company. Even though – it was Kitchenaid – four years ago – that gave us this repair company’s info to do the work and fix it. Now you’re saying you’ve never heard of them. Nice.
So. I tried contacting your company thru the online chat. This time. They did find our case with that number. Hmmm. And said there was nothing they could do because of how old the unit is. It’s 6 f-ing years old. Purchased in 2012. Had major repairs in 2016. And is now completely f-ed. With error code F47.
Funny. I don’t remember – when I was looking at the unit in the showroom at the store – I don’t recall a sign or sticker saying…. THIS COOKTOP WILL ONLY LASY FOUR YEARS.
Or… THIS COOKTOP WILL CEASE TO WORK AND THEN WILL COST THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS TO KEEP WORKING
Perhaps – if there was a sign like that – I might have bought something else.
The thing that bothers me the most. Is that my mother actually tried to resolve this issue first. And your customer service had her crying.
That’s why I stepped in. And I feel like crying. You’ve taken my money. And instead of honouring our agreement by providing a top notch product…. you’ve sold me crap. Utter crap.

i can’t get any CEO to return email, letter, or anyone willing to return calls. I purchased a KitchenAid refrigerator, i have had repair company to our house 5 times, 3 times with the same part and still doesn’t work. One manager promised to replace it if part didn’t work. guess what no notes in system. They don’t seemed to care if product works or not. over promised and under delivered.

To make a long story short we filled our house with KitchenAid products, stainless double wall oven which was a special order of over $2500, stainless steel refrigerator and matching dishwasher and A pair of front loading washer and dryer . No problems until a year and a half ago when the wall oven quit working . The digital control module quit working we called, the part was on back order . Several calls later it’s the same story…..now they tell us it’s discontinued after we have patiently waited for over a year…….so now what do I do with my very expensive wall oven? The representative told me to buy another one and I told her well it won’t be a KitchenAid! I don’t expect a new wall oven but I sure would appreciate some restitution so I can buy another one . We are retirees we are on a fixed income we just can’t go out and buy another $3000 wall oven, I am sure it’s at least that price now if not more, because as I was told it’s old, we have used it for a whole five years ! from what I have read here on this page nobody in corporate cares and nobody gets back with you, the CEOs making big money should be ashamed of their selves ! We customers pay their salary and apparently they give nothing back Not even a response !

Good afternoon,
I bought a Kitchenaid dishwasher because it received a very high rating by Consumer reports. After 6 months it has broken and to be honest I really didn’t expect such a premature failure from the Kitchenaid brand. Now Whirlpool Canada says that they can’t send a service person for 5 days. I am totally disappointed with the Kitchenaid brand based on performance and service.
After doing some research I noticed that Whirlpool .com got an A+ rating by the Better Business Bureau but Whirlpool Canada got a C and is not an accredited member. Is anything being done to improve their reputation of Whirlpool Canada with it’s customers as their attitude and practices have really turned me off the Kitchenaid brand,
Thank you
Alan

KitchenAid dishwasher approximately 4.5 months old, suddenly stopped drying dishes, even with heat dry & santitize cycle on. Queen City of Charlotte, NC stated to me “You have to run water at sink until it reaches 120 degrees in order for it to dry your dishes” and “New dishwashers are not as good as the old ones.” Me?, why did it suddenly stop drying my dishes, I’ve never had to run sink water before, and what is the 2-4 hour delay button for? Waited over 2 hours on KitchenAid service line. Maybe Twitter can help!

We purchased a KitchenAid dishwasher on Memorial day this year from Lowes. Dishwasher #1 came last Monday but was damaged.
Second delivery date was today- of dishwasher #2- another damaged unit. Both dishwashers were damaged and uninstallable!
Dishwasher #1 had a very deep crush and crumpled area in the top right rear. Dishwasher #2 had both right and left leveling legs/screws bent outward therefore this unit could not be leveled. Plumber would not install either.
The boxes they were packed in were not damaged at all.
Therefore, we must assume they are being severely thrown around and damaged prior to being packed up!
WHATS GOING ON AT YOUR FACTORY?

Good afternoon,
I just have one question, what has happened to your company? I have read review after review, watched video after video about how poorly constructed many of your products are across the board. In spite of everything that I have witnessed, I have given your company a 2nd chance. I originally purchased an Artisan kitchenAid stand mixer. within the first year the gears begun grinding. Yesterday I ordered and received the 6 quart professional from Amazon. First, as I unpacked the box, I found out that someone had left out attachments that clearly stated on the box and instruction manual that were suppose to be included. later that even, I “Attempted” to make “A” loaf of bread. Again attempted.. The machine could not complete a full rotation without severe struggle. Also, the machine constantly get serge’s of energy. I was so scared I immediately stopped the machine, unplugged it, washed the bowl and hook, and repacked it to send back for a full refund. Like I said in the beginning, In spite of my personal experience with my first stand mixer and the multiple negative reviews, I still gave you a second chance.. Never Again..!! You charge an extraordinary premium for clearly what is SUB-PAR merchandise. Either get your act together or close your doors. Stop ripping us off..!!

I bought a Kitchen aide fridge ,2 yrs. ago thanking it was the best, well the door has fell off, the hindge is eat up and it puts thin layer of ice under freezer bin and melts ,it has damaged my floor, I have complained to Lowes, they give me a number to call and the man said he couldn’t do anything. I’m disable, not much money, puts a hard ship on me to buy a new one. This is a lemon, you should replace .
Cathy Barker says
I have not heard back on my complaint , this how you do business?

I purchased a Kitchenaid oven/range November 2015. The oven has a self clean feature. November 2017 I tried using the self clean feature and at the end the door of the oven would not open, it was shut and nothing could be done. I called for repairs and unfortunately it was no longer under warrantee. I had a repair man come to take a look and he told me that the self clean feature gets the oven so hot that it blew something resulting in the door staying shut and oven not working. $180.00 dollars later, and after a week without the use of my oven it was repairs with a new part. Fast forward to April 2018, I tried to use the feature again, guess what it happens again. I called Kitchenaid and nothing, they claim that no recalls on this product and that there is nothing they can do for me. I’ve written several e-mails to them and chatted online and all they can do is say they are sorry, but can’t help me. Obviously the oven feature is a defect, since I went online and saw over 800 reviews of people having the same issue as I am with the same results, and Kitchaide a trusted company by me, is not taking any responsibility. It gets even worse, the repair person came in today with the part for the door, and the oven also is not turning on to the desired temp, it’s just stays on Lo-Heating. He said that the computer panel is fried, as a result of the high heat of the self cleaning feature, and recommends I not use it. Again, does that make any sense, that I can’t use the feature that came with the stove. He said he needs to order parts and hopefully get it working again. Parts are approximately $600.00. KitchenAid who I’ve trusted for so many years is not taking any responsibility for this product which is clearly defected. I’m very upset and want this resolved.

My husband bought me a KitchenAid Kers807SSS00 several years ago. My only problem which I consider dangerous is even when knobs that control eyes on the stove are locked we have had several times when somehow they got turned on. We have several things catch on fire but we were near the stove before the fire got out of hands. I thought maybe there had been a recall. Please email me and let me know.
Thanks, Susan Griffin

I have a whole kitchen filled with kitchen aid. I would not buy anything else, This product is the best I have ever used, But on Nov 22, 2017 I was cooking and heard a pop, I thought it was electrical. as I was down cleaning the floor I noticed the pop was the front of my oven, the glass shattered on the door of my oven. I called Kitchen aid and talked to Justin, very nice, very concerned if I got hurt, I explained the incident and he informed me everything would be covered SOOOO thankfuland he would send out a service company , he was very professional and I felt he was truely concerned. The day came when the service provider showed up so upset when this man came to my house he told me the customer service should not have told me everything was paid for and proceeded to give me the break down of the charges. He said he can order the part and I can do this myself. ARE YOU KIDDING ME. Kitchen aid already paid for there services. SO I called kitchen aid again spoke to Tabitha just as nice she confirmed what Justin said. SOOOOO I got a call from Quaker city factory services today and they said the part will be paid for but not the labor Long and short I have been cooking outside for days without a oven because they said not to use it. I am now on the phone with Darlene hope she has good news

This is the third email I have sent and no one has gotten back to me.
I had purchased a kitchen aid gas stove in November. I had phoned in regarding a promotion that kitchen aid was giving at the time for some cookware. They had given me a Confirmation number as I was advised that there was a back order on these pots and pans. I waited 4 months and had heard from no one. So I phoned in February and was told that the pots would arrive at my home in 7 days. I was lead to believe that I was getting this cookware, only to be told in March that I would not be getting them. I was very upset and frustrated as I had a confirmation number which should have guaranteed me the pots, but the customer service was adamant that I should not be getting them. I was very disappointed with the service I got as they were rude and unprofessional. If there was an error it was theirs and therefore the pots should have sent as a good will gesture. Please help and let me know if you can be of any assistance.
Thanking you
