Church’s Chicken Corporate Office

Church’s Chicken is a fast food chain specializing in fried chicken. Sometimes called Church’s Texas Chicken, Texas Chicken, or, more commonly, just plain Church’s Chicken.

George W. Church founded the company as Church’s Fried Chicken To Go in 1952 in San Antonio, Texas. At first, the restaurant sold only chicken, but fries and jalapenos were added in 1955.

The chain grew rapidly and had four locations by 1956.

In 1989 the chain merged with Popeye’s Chicken and Biscuits. The brands consolidated their supply lines but continued to operate as separate chains. The owner of both brands was AFC Enterprises.

In 2004 Church’s was sold to Arcapita, an Islamic venture capital firm that removed all pork products from the menu.

In 2009 private equity firm Friedman Fleischer & Lowe bought the company from Arcapita.

Today Church’s Chicken has 1,660 locations in 26 countries and is the fourth-largest chicken restaurant chain in the United States.

In May 2023, one customer stated that there were no employees to be found at his local Church’s Chicken, prompting him to go behind the counter and make his own meal.

Church’s Chicken maintains a corporate office in Atlanta, Georgia.
