Brandy Melville also received scathingly negative reviews on social media platforms in China, saying that while the clothing was cute, the entire discrimination against larger-sized people was “disgusting.”

After being criticized for not making larger-sized clothing, the company is now being criticized for not making clothing that is true to size.

Phillip Nevins wanted to open a genuine smoked BBQ restaurant. The first location was in Stephenville, Texas.

When it opened in 2003, Hard Eight BBQ cooked Hill Country-style of barbecue, in which mesquite (or sometimes oak) is burned down to coals that are then shoveled into a pit directly below the meat.

Wood smoke doesn’t bathe the meat, however, they use the indirect-heat method; rather, fat drips off of the meat directly onto the coals, vaporizing the liquid and creating a flavorful smoke of its own.

Today, Hard Eight BBQ has 6 locations around the state of Texas. It is not uncommon to wait more than an hour to be seated, the restaurants have become that popular.

The company specializes in all types of BBQ meat, including ribs, chicken, brisket, pork chops, and rib-eye steaks.

In April 2022, Hard Eight BBQ was accused of failing to pay its staff the tips and overtime wages. The US Department of Labor charged the company with returning $867,257 to its 910 employees.

Hard Eight BBQ states that this was merely an unintentional misunderstanding of Texas labor laws.

The company also stated that it was having a difficult time finding and retaining workers, which may have resulted in a partial mixup of tips paid.

The pandemic of 2020 brought this company to the forefront, allowing them to be the go-to lab not just for Kentucky, but many other states as well. The unprecedented demand for Covid-19 testing became a boom and the boom resulted in 2,767% revenue growth from 2018 to 2020.

It’s estimated that the company processed 2.4 million Covid tests in a short two-year period.

In 2021, an employee of the company told his boss that he did NOT want a birthday celebration. He explained that he suffered from anxiety and couldn’t deal with being the center of attention. His request was not taken seriously and a party was held for his birthday. The employee had an acute anxiety attack and spent most of the day locked in the bathroom. He was fired.

The employee sued and won $450,000. Gravity Diagnostics says that it plans to appeal the decision.

The company has a second testing location in Cincinnati, Ohio, which was named the Fastest Growing Company in Cincinnati by the Cincinnati Business Courier for the second year in a row in 2022.
