Captain D’s Seafood was founded in Donelson, Tennessee, in 1969. The company offers casual dining and a seafood menu which includes items such as hand battered fish filets, local fish entrees, seafood sandwiches, and regional favorites. The restaurant chain also serves cole slaw, French fries, green beans, and baked potatoes, along with other side dishes.

As of January of 2016, the company has 520 locations, most of these being franchise operations. The company went through bankruptcy proceedings in 2000. Since this time, the chain has been sold several times. In 2013, the company was sold to Centre Partners.

Captain D’s Seafood has received several awards, including National Restaurant News award for Best Menu Revamp in 2007 and other awards locally. The company has also seen 18 quarters of increased growth at almost all locations.

Andy’s Frozen Custard Corporate Office

Andy’s Frozen Custard was founded in 1986 by John and Carol Kuntz. The original location was in Osage Beach, Missouri. After eating frozen custard for the first time in Wisconsin, the couple decided to come up with their own recipe and open a business. The company is named after their son, Andy.

Today, Andy’s Frozen Custard has 29 locations in 5 states. The company serves a variety of frozen custard flavors, including apple pie and pumpkin pie in which an actual pie is ground up and mixed in with the custard. This chain is also known for purchasing thousands of boxes of Thin Mint cookies from the Girl Scouts each year and using the cookies in their custard. Andy’s Frozen Custard also serves milk shakes and sundaes with frozen custard, rather than ice cream.

Despite the coronavirus crisis of 2020, some restaurant locations, such as Andy’s, are opening new stores, rather than closing them.

Meathead’s Burgers and Fries Corporate Office

Meathead’s Burgers and Fries was founded by current CEO Tom Jednorowicz in 2007. The company is headquartered in Bloomington, Illinois. As of March of 2016, the company has 17 locations, most of them in Illinois. The company is known for its wide variety of toppings and burger sizes. The restaurant chain also offers chicken burgers, chicken sandwiches, as well as salads and drinks.

Meathead’s Burgers and Fries, often called Meathead’s, is a specialty burger chain that describes itself as a “fast casual” restaurant, rather than a fast food location. Annual sales in 2011 were $5 million. The company has yet to offer a franchise system, although the owner, who is a former executive at Potbelly Sandwich Works, says he is considering it.

Rocket Fizz Corporate Office

Rocket Fizz was founded in 2007 by Robert Powells and Ryan Morgan in Camarillo, California. The pair wanted to reestablish some of the older brands of candies from the 50’s and 60’s, as well as introduce a variety of flavored sodas. Rocket Fizz is a franchised operation that specializes in candy, gum, and flavored sodas.

Although stores are franchised, the company also sells their uniquely flavored sodas to vendors such as supermarkets and stop and go stores, such as Seven-11. Some of the best selling soda flavors are bacon, dog drool, buffalo wing, and ranch dressing. The company offers 430 flavors of soda, as well as thousands of types of candy.

Rocket Fizz currently has 118 locations in 22 states. The company states that they are the largest candy and soda shop franchise in the U.S. Rocket Fizz was featured on the popular CBS program Undercover Boss in January of 2016.

Farrell’s Ice Cream Parlour Corporate Office

Farrell’s Ice Cream Parlours was founded in 1963 by Bob Farrell and Ken McCarthy in Portland, Oregon. The company became quickly known for giving children free sundaes on their birthday’s, as well as for their 1900 turn of the century decor, player pianos, and waiter costumes that include straw boat hats.

At the height of the chain’s popularity, there were 120 Farrell’s locations. The company fell on hard times after 1980 and by 1990, nearly all Farrell’s locations were closed or sold. After a lengthy legal battle, Parlour Enterprises was determined to be the new owner/operator of the chain. The chain quickly opened 6 locations throughout California and 1 in Hawaii. The company has been in talks to reopen the original Farrell’s location in Portland.

The company offers a wide range of ice cream dishes, sundaes, milk shakes, and hamburgers.
