Food Depot Corporate Office

Food Depot was founded in 1975 in Stockbridge, Georgia, by two friends, Gerald Taylor and Raymond Johnson, when the pair bought Kenny’s supermarket by mortgaging their homes.

Today, Food Depot operates 25 stores in Georgia. The company is owned by All American Quality Foods, Inc., but does business under the Food Depot name. This chain of supermarkets prides itself on selling items at 10% over cost as often as possible.

The company continues to expand and has plans to put stores outside of Georgia in the near future. The company has approximately 1,500 full-time employees. Food Depot’s concept of selling items just above cost is not a new one, but this company has been able to continue this tradition after most other companies have abandoned it.

In April 2019, one former employee filed a workplace sexual harassment lawsuit against the company, saying that she was sexually harassed by her manager, but the company failed to do anything about her complaints.

Hannaford Supermarket Corporate Office

Hannaford Supermarket was founded in 1883 in Portland, Maine, by Arthur Hannaford. Joined by his two brothers, Howard and Edward, in 1902, the trio quickly expanded the business, venturing into the wholesale market by 1920.

Today, there are 189 locations in 5 states. Delhaize America purchased the chain in 2000. Up until 2011, the chain marketed private labels on some of their food products, however, these labels now read Delahize America.

Most locations offer pharmacies, gift cards, Western Union, Red Box video rentals, and healthier eating through a program called Guiding Stars. This program is a navigational tool, used to help customers quickly find nutritional content and make healthier choices.

Harveys Supermarket was founded in 1903 by Joe Harvey in Nashville, Georgia. The company continued to grow slowly over the years and in the 1980’s, via a series of acquisitions, grew substantially. The company now has 56 locations throughout Florida, Georgia, and South Carolina, employing approximately 4,400 persons.

The company is based in Jacksonville, Florida and is a subsidiary of Southeastern Grocers, who purchased the company in 2013 for $265 million. Harveys Supermarket supports the Wounded Warrior Project. In April of 2016, the company released a statement saying that they would provide only cage-free eggs by early 2017.

In March 2018, the parent company, Southeastern Grocers, filed for bankruptcy in order to reorganize its debts. The company emerged from bankruptcy the following month.

In August 2020, due to the ongoing coronavirus crisis, Southeastern Grocers implemented a new policy allowing stores with pharmacies to offer delivery service.

Also due to the coronavirus, Harveys parent company Southeastern Grocers donated 1.12 million meals to the Feeding America charity group.

C&S Wholesale Grocers Corporate Office

C&S Wholesale Grocers was founded in 1918 in Worcester, Massachusets, by Israel Cohen and Abraham Siegel. The company began as a small grocery distribution center and warehouse in a three story building. The original location on Winter Street was ruined in a flood in 1929, forcing the company to relocate. The new location was larger, however, which proved beneficial as the company grew substantially in the following 10 years.

After C&S began serving the large supermarket chain Big D starting in 1958, the company grew even larger. Today, C&S Wholesale Grocers has 50 distribution centers in 15 states. The company had annual revenue in 2013 of $21.7 billion and employs more than 14,000 people.

Price Chopper Supermarket Corporate Office

Price Chopper Supermarkets was founded in 1932 when brothers, Bernard and William Golub opened their first supermarket. The original name was Public Service Market. The company changed the name to the current Price Chopper in 1973. In 1951, the company was one of the first supermarkets to begin giving customers S&H Green Stamps with purchases.

Today, the company has 134 locations and employs 24,000 people. Price Chopper has focused on innovative and new ideas to supermarkets in addition to the usual groceries. The company was one of the first supermarkets to offer 24 hour stores in some locations, in store pharmacies and gas stations were added over the years. In 2009, the company began to use natural gas fuel cells for power in some locations, cutting their electricity usage by at least 40 percent.

Price Chopper continues to expand and plans to open 5 more locations in New England in 2016. Revenue for the company was $3.4 billion in 2014.
