Miles Kimball Company was founded in 1934 by Miles Kimball. He wanted to start his own mail order business, but had very little money and wasn’t sure how to get started. After borrowing some start up funds, he designed a mailer which offered personalized Christmas cards. To save money, he simply mailed his offer to every Johnson family name in the phone book. His idea was so successful that not only was Kimball able to repay his loan, but he had money to start his mail order business.
By 1950, the company had more than 1 million customers and in 1974, the company printed its first all color catalog. The company opened their website in 2000.
Today, the company has changed names to Silver Star Brands, Inc., but they still provide a variety of consumer goods via mail order or online orders. Silver Star Brands also include other mail order companies that have been acquired over the years, including Walter Drake and Easy Comforts.
