Gallery Furniture Corporate Office

Gallery Furniture was founded by current CEO and owner Jim “Mattress Mack” McIngvale in Houston, Texas, in 1982. McIngvale started the company with a pickup truck for delivery and $5,000 cash.

Although the company did well initially, but the oil industry in Texas took a turn for the worse. McIngvale took his last $10K and invested it into advertising (doing the voice over himself) on two television stations. Although he wasn’t very pleased with the ad, it did well, turning business around.

Today, Gallery Furniture has 3 locations; two in Houston, Texas, and one in Richmond, Texas. The company was recently in the spotlight after Hurricane Harvey, which flooded most of Houston. McIngvale opened his stores to be used as shelters for those who were unable to stay in their homes.

City Furniture was founded in 1971 in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, by Kevin Koenig. Originally named Waterbed City, the company switched to selling furniture when the bottom fell out of the waterbed market. Kevin’s brother, Keith, renamed the company City Furniture.

Thomasville Furniture Corporate Office

Thomasville Furniture was founded in Thomasville, North Carolina, in 1904, originally as the Thomasville Chair Company. By 1905, the company was making approximately 500-1,000 every day.

Today, Thomasville Furniture is a full line manufacturer of furniture, designing and making everything from bedroom sets to kitchen cabinets. The company has 30 company owned stores which sell only Thomasville furniture, and an additional 400 stores which feature the brand. Kitchen cabinets are sold under the MasterBrand Cabinet name.

In 2011, the company was acquired by the Heritage Home Group, who moved the famous Thomasville showroom out of Thomasville and into High Point, North Carolina. The original headquarters building, erected in 1958, remains for sale. Company headquarters are now located in High Point.
