Cousins Submarines Corporate Office

Cousins Submarines, more commonly known as Cousins Subs or even just Cousins, was founded in 1972 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, by two cousins Bill Specht and James Sheppard. The company operates a chain of restaurants whose main focus is submarine style sandwiches.

The chain is perhaps best known for using fresh bread, baked at local bakeries and delivered fresh daily. The company was forced to close about 40 locations in 2009 due to the recession. As of May of 2017, the company operates about 95 locations in 3 states. Restaurants in Milwaukee are company owned, the remainder are franchises.

Cousins Submarines are usually made with food from local farmers or dairies, such as Wisconsin cheese, Badger Ham, and Sprecher Root Beer. In addition to sandwiches, the company also serves soups and salads.

In April 2020, due to the coronavirus pandemic, Cousins Subs raised money to help frontline healthcare workers. 

In June 2020, the company launched its first “Delivery Only” sandwich location.

Currently, the company has 50 locations across the US. Liautaud is the cousin of Jimmy John Liautaud, founder of Jimmy John’s restaurants. The focus of the company is mostly sandwiches and fast delivery. In addition to restaurant service, the company also offers catering. Milio’s Sandwiches employs approximately 400 persons full time. The company has won several awards, including Madison’s Magazine Best in 2005, as well as for the company’s involvement in the community. Liautaud has plans to open 12 stores in the Minneapolis area in 2016.

Falken Tire began as Sumitomo Rubber Company in Japan in 1983. After opening offices in North America in 1991, the company began selling their tires under the Falken brand name.

Today, Falken Tire is known for their ultra high performance tires. These products are sold globally and are often used in racing. The company recently dissolved their longtime partnership with Goodyear, but purchased Goodyear’s Dunlop brand in 2016. In addition to passenger car tires, truck tires, and racing tires, the company also sells off road and 4X4 tires. Most stand alone locations are franchised.

Falken participates in numerous racing events, including the Le Mans and Formula One. The company was recently added as the Official Tire of the Major Baseball League. New Headquarters for the company were opened in Rancho Cucamonga, California, in 2012.

The company operates one of the fastest growing Mexican food chains in the US. They have a partnership with the Army and Air Force Exchange, as well as Steak Escape and Good Times Burgers and Custard. The company has created their own niche in Mexican/American food, calling it West-Mex. This combination includes food items such as chicken taco salads, potato “Ole” dishes, and breakfast items.

The company plans on expanding the chain, regardless of the coronavirus crisis, adding more than 75 new locations in the next two years. 

In June 2021, the company announced that “the fried chicken war is over” as they open a new chain called Cluckin’ John’s. 

Taco John’s currently has 425 franchises in 25 states, with 15 locations opening in the greater Indianapolis, Indiana, area in 2015 and 40 locations in New York and Tennessee in 2016.
