PizzaRev Corporate Office

PizzaRev, which stands for Pizza Revolution, was founded in 2012 in Los Angeles by Rodney Eckerman and Irv Zuckerman, and their sons Nicholas Eckerman and Jeff Zuckerman. The company operates a chain of franchised and corporate-owned pizza restaurants where customers order their own custom pizzas.

The pizza chain offers personal-sized traditional pizzas, as well as customized pizzas which customers can have prepared with their choice of two crusts, various sauces, cheeses, and toppings. Customers use a cafeteria-style line when ordering, whereby company employees assemble fresh pizzas to order, after which they are cooked. PizzaRev restaurants include the option of selecting a gluten-free crust. All pizzas are currently priced at $8.25 each, regardless of how many toppings or other ingredients are chosen.

In March 2017, former McDonald’s CEO Don Thompson acquired a majority stake in PizzaRev and is now CEO of the chain. He plans for aggressive expansion of PizzaRev, however, in February 2018, 5 locations in Memphis, Tennessee, closed unexpectedly with no reason given.

Mod Pizza Corporate Office

Mod Pizza was founded by Scott and Ally Svenson. The pair had sold their successful coffee chain, Seattle Coffee Company, to Starbucks in 1998. The couple decided to start their own pizza chain after being unable to find healthy pizzas for their sons.

The pizza chain is known for its individual artesian styled pizzas that cook in only 3 minutes, using an 800-degree oven. There are 9 classic pizzas, a seasonal pizza, “salad” pizza, and regular salads to choose from. The company also offers handmade milkshakes, fountain drinks, and beer.

In January 2017, the company celebrated the opening of its 200th location.

Teddy’s Bigger Burgers Corporate Office

Teddy’s Bigger Burgers was founded in 16998 by Ted Tsakiris & Rich Stula. Longtime BBQ fanatics, Ted and Rich didn’t understand why other burger restaurants were so chintzy with the size of their burgers. Friends encouraged them to start their own business.

The restaurant chain is known for it’s over the top burger and French fry sizes. Starting off with one location in Honolulu, Hawaii, the chain now has 26 locations, some corporate owned and some franchises. In 2014, the company expanded to Texas and recently, the chain has gone international with new franchises opening in Thailand, Saudi Arabia, Japan, and the Philippines.

In 2018, two teen-aged employees at a franchise in Hawaii made a video that went viral on social media showing what appears to be a dead rat being fried on the grill. The restaurant was immediately closed, sanitized, and the workers involved fired. The boys refuse to say whether the rat was real or not. The chain has had no problems with the health department, however, co-founder Ted Tsakiris says this prank has cost his company a minimum of $100k.

Bush’s Chicken Corporate Office

Bush’s Chicken was founded in Waco, Texas, in 1996 by Keith and Charlene Bush. The restaurant chain is best known for it’s southern-styled fried chicken and sides that include fried okra, fries, mashed potatoes, corn on the cob, yeast rolls, and macaroni and cheese. Bush’s Chicken also offers sweet tea and unsweetened ice tea sold by the gallon jug.

The company has approximately 90 locations in 4 states, with a mix of both franchises and corporate-owned stores. Many locations in Texas offer old-fashioned car hop service, which is popular with locals.

In late 2012, the chain was hit with a lawsuit in which a woman claimed her husband died from salmonella poisoning after eating at Bush’s Chicken. Based on medical evidence at the trial, the jury concluded that Bush’s Chicken was not responsible for the man’s death.

In June of 2018, multiple locations suddenly closed their doors with no explanation. The restaurant chain had been briefly sold, but second generation Bush family members repurchased the restaurant chain.

In October 2020, the company introduced a new sandwich, the Bushbaby Chicken Sandwich.

Uptown Cheapskate Corporate Office

Uptown Cheapskate was founded by Scott and Chelsea Sloan in 2008. This brother and sister team learned a lot about resale from helping out at their parent’s franchise Kid to Kid. When Chelsea realized that she had some very upscale business clothing that she no longer wore, she decided to open her own store, and later, with some help from her brother, another family franchise, only this one aimed at adult clothing and accessories.

The company buys, sells, trades, and cosigns clothing, shoes, and other gently used items from consumers for resale. Within 8 months, the company was turning a profit and had opened a second location.

Uptown Cheapskate works for both buyers and sellers in that sellers earn money for clothing that would otherwise simply be taking up space, with buyers receiving quality, name-brand clothing for far less than new items cost.

In November 2022, Uptown Cheapskate opened its 3rd Austin, Texas, location.
