Cub Foods Corporate Office

Cub Foods was founded in 1968 in Minneapolis, Minnesota by Charles and Jack Hooley . The company operates a chain of grocery stores in the states of Illinois and Minnesota. The company name is an acronym for Customers United for Buying.

The company is one of the very first total discount stores in the US. Customers bagged their own groceries and the company states they operated the first conveyor belt system for grocery stores. The company was acquired by SuperValu in 1997. Some stores retained the Cub Foods name, others were changed to Super Valu or Shop N Save.

The company operated 8 stores in Colorado but sold them to Kroger for an undisclosed amount in 2003.

As of 2015, the company has 81 locations. In 2014, Cub Foods parent company, SuperValu, reported to their customers that CUB Reward members might have had their information compromised in a hacking incident.

Cub Foods parent company SuperValu was considering selling the company in a report by Bloomberg in April 2018, although there has been no official statement released from SuperValue.

During the riots over the death of George Floyd, the Target and Cub Foods stores in Minneapolis that were heavily damaged will reopen in the first part of November 2020.

Headquarters for Cub Foods is still located in Stillwater, Minnesota.

Bar-S Foods was founded in 1981 during a management buyout of the Cudahy Meatpacking business, which was owned by General Host Corporation. The company is one of the leading manufacturers and distributors of meat products in the US.

The company distributes meat under several different names, including President’s Pride, Old World Premium, Chuck Wagon, and Bar-S. Most of the company’s products are processed meats, such as bacon, hot dogs, and sausage. Today, the company has approximately 1,500 full time employees, and in 2004 had annual revenue of $400 million.

Bar-S Foods has headquarters in Phoenix, Arizona, and was acquired by Mexican based food company Sigma Foods, Inc. Sigma Foods has stated that they have no interest in moving company headquarters or in moving the company to Mexico.

Giordano’s Pizza Corporate Office

Giordano’s Pizza was founded in 1974 in Chicago, Illinois, by brothers Efren and Joseph Boglio, who had immigrated to America from Italy. The brothers first worked at pizza restaurants, but were not impressed with the quality, so they opened their own restaurant.

The company operates a chain of mostly franchised pizza and Italian food restaurants which use the same pizza recipe that the founding brothers obtained from their mother. Later, the brothers experimented with pizza crusts and flours. They state that they were the inventors of the stuffed crust pizza.

Giordano’s Pizza has approximately 50 locations, most of them in the greater Chicago area. Giordano’s remains one of Chicago’s most famous pizzaria’s. They are best known for their deep dish and stuffed crust pizza’s.

D&W Fresh Market Corporate Office

D&W Fresh Market was founded in 1943 in Grandville, Michigan. Originally named IGA, the founders, Roy Woodrick and Sid DeVries, decided to change the name using the initials of their last names in the early 1960’s.

Today, D&W Fresh Market is a subsidiary of SpartanNash Company, after being acquired in 20036. Currently, there are 11 stores which bear the D&W Fresh Market label, with sister stores owned by SpartanNash under the names Family Fare Quick Stop, VG’s Quick Stop, and Forest Hills Quick Stop.

D&W Central Kitchen was also retained by SpartanNash, however, the catering side of the business, Fresh Thyme, was sold to a local catering company in Grand Rapids, Michigan.

Bashas’ Grocery Corporate Office

Bashas’ Grocery was founded in 1932 by Lebanon immigrant Najeeb Basha in Goodyear, Arizona. The family had numerous setbacks working in mining towns but finally had success with their grocery store.

Today, Bashas’ has more than 118 locations and employs nearly 9,500 persons. The company operates under several names, including Bashas’ Grocery, Bashas’Supermarket, Food City, AJ’s Fine Foods, and Bashas’ Dine Market. Company stores can be found throughout Arizona and New Mexico.

Bashas’ Grocery is still family owned and operated. Stores are non-unionized. The company filed for bankruptcy in 2009 but emerged in 2010 after paying off all creditors.

In December 2021, Raley’s Supermarket acquired Bashas’ for an undisclosed amount.

Bashas maintains a corporate office in Chandler, Arizona.
