The company grew rapidly, expanding first in Texas, then in the midwestern states in the 1990’s. At one time, the company was second in popularity and size only to Chi Chi’s restaurants. The chain has not done so well into the 2000’s, causing it to be sold several times. Slowly, franchises and company owned locations were forced to close their doors. There are only 9 locations as of July of 2017.

Don Pablo’s is currently owned by Food Management Partners,with headquarters in San Antonio, Texas. Food Management Partners also owns Buffalo Wild Wings and several other restaurant chains.

Tops Friendly Market was founded in 1960 in Niagra Falls, New York, originally as Niagara Frontier Services. In 1962, franchise systems had been developed for supermarkets and the company began franchising under the name of Tops Friendly Markets.

Today, the company has 179 full-service supermarkets, with 5 of these being franchised and one location operating under the Orchard Fresh market name. The company employs approximately 16,000 persons full-time and in 2015, reported annual revenue of $2.47 billion. Expansion is generally done by acquisition, although new locations are constructed, such as the location in Walworth, New York, which opened in 2015.

Tops Friendly Market opened a new location under the name of Orchard Fresh in 2012 and states that it has plans to open more locations under this name.

In May 2022, a man opened fire at a Buffalo, New York, Tops Market, killing 10 people. 

In August 2022, Instacart same-day delivery was being offered at 140 of Top’s 150 locations.

In 2006, the company had nearly 100 locations, however, after the recession of 2009, they were forced to close about half of their locations.

Charo Chicken has an overall rating on Yelp and Google of 4 stars. Company headquarters are still located in Huntington Beach California.

The company offers the same fried chicken, coleslaw, as well as biscuits and gravy recipes that Robert Simmens used when the restaurant was founded. Michael Simmens, son and now CEO of the chain, says that trying new things did not bring them success, but rather, staying the same did. The chicken comes from local farms, is hand breaded and fried, and their famous coleslaw is hand chopped and mixed every day with fresh, local ingredient.

Mr. Chicken now has 8 locations in Ohio and employs approximately 200 persons. Headquarters are located in Willoughby, Ohio.
