Fandango was founded in 2000 in Los Angeles, California by three theater companies; United Artists, Hoyt, and Regal. Regal was concerned at the time that a new online site, movietickets.com, was going to dominate the sale of movie tickets. Executives at the time noticed that the company was gaining in popularity as people realized the convenience of buying tickets online, in advance.
The original name of the company was Ticketmakers but they soon realized that this was too similar to TicketMasters, thus the name change. It is unknown exactly where the name Fandango came from.
The company grew in popularity when people began to realize that by printing out your tickets at home, they did not have to wait in line, or find out that the movie they wished to see was sold out upon arrival. The company charges anywhere between 75 cents and $2.50, for each ticket, depending on the movie and the theater where it is shown. Most clients pay a $1 surcharge.
Customers were able to buy gift cards for Fandango starting in late 2012.
In March of 2012 the company announced a partnership with Yahoo movies, becoming the official mobile ticket service for the 30 million users of Yahoo.
In December 2017 Fandango received hundreds of complaints regarding its delivery of Star Wars: The Last Jedi tickets. Problems began within hours of advanced sales becoming available for the new Star Wars film, with customers complaining of long wait times and website glitches. Troubles for the company continued as many complained that they had paid for tickets which they never received. Worse still, customers stated that they found little or no support from Fandango’s customer relations team, who ignored complaints, even as they continued to take payments.
Fandango is owned in partnership by NBC Universal and Warner Brothers. Fandango also has a mobile phone app where clients can purchase tickets and show their phone receipts at the door. The mobile phone app has been the subject of FCC warnings as they claim the app is not secure, while Fandango claims the app is safe and that they have never been hacked.
In December 2023, Fandango stated that it expected Deadpool 3 to be the hottest-selling ticket when the movie is released in 2024
Fandango headquarters are still located in Los Angeles, California.

Purchased tickets on a Thursday morning for show tickets Friday night. 2 tickets were not used due to COVID and the theatre told me to contact Fandago for a refund, saying they are great. THEY WILL NOT REFUND ME, so now I’m out the 2 tickets. Will NEVER NEVER NEVER use them again. Writing corporate! Absolutely horrible customer service, very condesending people they have working for them.

Horrible customer service! As stated in other comments, they only care about money! I purchased tickets in advanced (almost $100 worth) and the day of the movie, my whole family, including my one-year-old and two young kids, got food poisoning. We were all throwing up everywhere. I called a little after the movie started, and they never gave me back my money. They said I had to cancel before the movie started, but we were so busy throwing up, I couldn’t call.

FANDANGO IS THE WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE!!! IF YOU DO NOT ALREADY HAVE AN ACCOUNT PLEASE DO NOT USE FANDANGO. I MISTAKENLY MADE DOUBEL RESERVATIONS FOR A SHOW FOR ME AND FAMILY MEMBERS. THEIR SITE WAS SLOW IN RESPONDING WHILE I MADE RESERVATIONS AND SINCE I DID NOT GET A RESPONSE AFTER MY FIRST ATTEMTPT, I TRIED A SECOND TIME ONLY FIND OUT LATER UPON EXAMINING MY ACCOUNT THAT I HAD DOUBLE CHARGES, MEANING THAT BOTH ATTEMPTS WERE ACCEPTED. MY CALL TO THEM , EVEN AFTER SPEAKIGN WITHT A SUPERVISOR WAS A WASTE OF TIME!!! THEY ARE OBVIOUSLY IN THE BUSINESS OF MAKING MONEY AND CUSTOMER SERVICE IS NOT THEIR PRIORITY!!!

I agree!!! They are the worst!!! I bought gift cards. I was told they have no record of the transaction. However they were able to withdraw $200.00 out of my checking account. Yep!! That was 4 days ago. At least 5 times I’ve called and was told my case has been escalated. Then at one point I was told to stop calling because every time I call I create a new case and it puts me back.

Hi
i spoke with a representative shortly after mistake my first purchased tickets on-line on February 21,2018 TRANSACTION FOR $24.00 with the option to print tickets. They never arrived so I called CS! My transaction was not showing up when my grandson and I showed up to watch Black Panther. I was informed that I was not in their system, and that I had to purchase tickets now in time before showing. My bank account will show the both transaction. for February 21, 2018 & February 22, 2018 at the theater paid thru the same account for $21.00.
Customer service was not able to assist me any further and totally unfriendly and did not assist me at all
He was making zero effort to understand or show empathy
He disconnected me with no warning
Very bad experience service. So now I am writing corporate. #2 Your website advertised free posters, and that is why we chose this movie. When I asked about my poster for my grandson, the manager at the theater claimed that your company offered a certain amount of posters. plz submit answer to mponyi@ sbcglobal.net

I guess I don’t stand a chance, I am not a VIP, I just want a Poster that was promise to me when I bought Black Panther tickets. I have been on the phone for 45mins. to 1 hr. and nobody ever ansered. I went on line to send a email and was told to type between two lines and I couldn’t. This was my first time ordering tickets from fandango and my last. I didn’t know it would be a huge problem. My confirmation number is A0107891196. What a mess.

I have contacted you several times by this e-mail platform, with live chat as well as talking to customer support. It’s going on 6 or 7 months that I am having the same problem. It seems that no one at Fandango cares about its public users. You can see when you bring up my VIP account that you have there that I have indeed discussed this issue over and over. When it comes to my review helpful hint points number have been deleted. I am on the Fandango web-site not the others that you once asked me about. I am still seeing an increase in my movie review numbers. I have reviewed over 580 films, I am not a person that just pops in and out once in a while. I had over 2500 helpful hints 6 months ago before they disappeared. All I ever get is a reply that my issue has been sent to the proper department. I have never got an update as to what’s happening nor am I allowed to speak to anyone in the department that oversees the web site. I have been waiting so long to get a solution to this issue with NO sign of it ever being fixed. PLEASE just tell me up front that you’re not going to fix it so I should get over it. I’d respect that more than being told stuff that’s not going to happen. If I don’t get some kind of a response (be it we won’t fix it or it’s fixed) I will contact corporate and let them know how their customer service is the greatest for not helping. Is it too hard to say it’s solved or we can’t fix it, I just want closure on this issue.

I am this regions #1 customer. That’s not me saying that; no matter what Regal theater I go to it comes up on their screen at the ticket and concession booths. This is why my helpful points issue needs to be solved. Thank you, I hope for a resolution.

I am currently a VIP customer. However, l am not feeling much like a VIP customer these days. My boys and l were frequent visitors at fandango theatres. However, a recent experience, has caused me not to attend a movie all summer long. My heart just was not in it to go. I purchased a movie ticket for myself, to go see The Mummy, with Tom Cruise. On my way to the showing, l caught a flat tire. Within the first 15 minutes of the start of the movie, l was on my phone via live chat with fandango customer service. A horrible experience within itself. I waited forever to get to a live person. All l wanted was for credit to be issued, so that l could go to another showing of the movie. My request was denied, and l was told the issue would be escalated to the corporate office. I waited for over two weeks, never heard back from anyone. Followed up again with customer service, got a message back the same day, request for credit was denied again. Subsequently, my request was denied again. This experience has left a very bad taste in my mouth. Granted, l do understand that we are expected to request credit before the start of the showing. But life happens, and that isn’t always possible for the customer. It isn’t about the money. It is about valuing the customer, and bending the rules every now and then in order to accommodate a VIP customer. If a customer has not redeemed that ticket, l see no reason, why my request should have been denied three times for credit. This is a perfect example of getting too big for your britches, and forgetting that your customer is what is important, not $6.50. At a time when losing three loyal customers, is not a good thing. I don’t know if l will ever attend another fandango or cinemark theatre. If there are other theatres to go to, that you are not affiliated with, l will do so. I do not appreciate the poor treatment that l have received from your company. It should not have come to this, over $6.50. I will also tell my friends and family to explore other options, if there are any. Sincerely, Charlotte.

I accidentally scratched off part of the claim code on my gift card. No phone reps available on Saturdays. I was able to chat with someone who said they would email the claim code in 3-5 business days. A week went by and no claim code. I called their office and got through after holding for 45 minutes. They said the would put a rush on my case. Another week later and I still have heard nothing and still can’t use my card.

As stated above, I received a Fandango Gift Card as a gift from my job. I went online to purchase tickets but after purchasing them I realized I chose the wrong theater. So I requested a refund to which I received an exchange confirmation number to apply the credit to my account. I then proceeded to purchase tickets for a different theater and when I went to complete the purchase I got an error message (with no explaination). So I decided to try again. Now the exchange credit is not automatically being deducted from my purchase. I’ve contacted customer service via phone and live chat and after them not knowing the answer they said they’re “escalating it” to another department which can take 2-3 days to get back to me. How is this acceptable?! The exchange credit is sitting in my account under Purchase History but I cannot use it. I also can’t get the money credited back to my gift card because they can’t “reload” gift cards. Today (Saturday) is the only day that I can go and I told my daughter we’d be going. So now we’re just stuck waiting. This is ridiculous and the worst customer service experience. After getting this resolved I do not see using Fandango ever again.

I purchased a Fandango gift card for my son for Christmas and have tried hundreds of times to use it via the Fandango online service and the app and am repeatedly not able to. I am told, via the app, that my date and time choice of a movie are invalid and when I use the online function, I am unable to select any time nor date of a movie without being kicked out of the choice.
I have contacted your chat line numerous time and waited for up to a half hour for someone to talk to. Each time I am told that there is just an error and I should clear my cache and browser history and start over. I have tried this – tried using a different computer AND phone to no avail. I have had my gift card verified for a balance of $25 each time I’ve called.
At this point I just want my $25 gift card refunded as I will never, ever use Fandango again.
This is a horrible company with terrible customer service.

You are not alone. Their customer service is the worst.
I also received a Fandango Gift Card and accidentally chose the wrong theater when trying to make a purchase. I requested a refund and was given an exchange confirmation number to make another purchase. I went ahead and proceeded to purchase tickets at a different theater. When I went to complete the purchase it errored and now my credit is not being applied to my account. Like you, I have tried the computer, my phone, clearing my history and nothing is working. They can’t even issue my credit back to my gift card. What kind of way is this to run a business?
