Tommy Bahama Corporate Office

Tommy Bahama was founded in 1993 by Tony Margolis, Bob Emfield, and their wives. They imagined a brand name that brought to mind images of warm days on the beach and a relaxed lifestyle at night.

The company is a manufacturer of men and women’s clothing, sunglasses, hats, active wear, footwear, swimwear, and a line of home furniture. There are more than 160 corporate owned stores around the world. The company’s products are also sold in most upscale stores such as Macy’s and Bloomingdale’s, as well as at beach resorts and hotels around the world.

Tommy Bahama was purchased by Oxford Industries, Inc., in 2003 and operates as a subsidiary. The company recently launched its own brand of rum in 2007. There are currently two varieites; White Sand, which is a light rum, and Golden Sun, which is a dark rum. Both flavors have won awards in the San Francisco World Rum Flavor Competition in 2010.

Oliver Peoples was founded in 1987 by  Larry Leight and Ken Schwartz. The company develops and designs luxury eyewear and sunglasses. Company headquarters are currently located in Beverly Hills, California.

Oliver Peoples sunglasses are mostly sold via their eCommerce website, boutiques, and upscale department stores, such as Bloomingdales. The brand has been featured in numerous movies and fashion magazines, including Brad Pitt in the movie Fight Club, Bruce Willis in The Jackal, as well as magazine fashion shoots such as Equire, Vanity Fair, GQ, Elle, and Vogue.

The company was acquired by Oakley in 2006, and, subsequently, Oakley was acquired by Luxottica in 2007 for $46.7 million.

The company has been so successful that it now has 35 brick and mortar locations. Warby Parker offers inexpensive, yet stylish frames. In April of 2015, the company was estimated to be worth $1.2 billion.

In 2016, the company opened a large office in the L&C tower in downtown Nashville, TN. The 28,000 square foot facility is part showroom and part office with over 100 customer service agents working there daily. The company plans to eventually employ 250 customer service representatives there. As of May 2019, the company has expanded to 90 brick and mortar locations. 

The CEO was one of 180 that signed a pro-life/anti-abortion restriction letter that stated attempts to limit a woman’s right to choose hurts businesses.  This letter was published as a full-page ad in the New York Times on June 9th, 2019.

Warby Parker also has a “buy one donate one” program, where for every pair of glasses purchased, they donate money to the non-profit company Vision Springs, which provides eyeglasses for low-income countries as a means of sponsoring entrepreneurship.

Although the company doesn’t speak openly about their revenue, it’s estimated that they had annual revenue in 2017 of $250 million and the company appears destined to go public soon.

Randolph Engineering was founded in 1972 in Randolph, Massachusetts, by Jan Waszkiewicz and Stanley Zaleski. Waszkiewicz was a Polish immigrant who previously worked for the American Optical Company. The company also makes job specific eyewear for law enforcement, shooting, security personnel, and other outdoor sports.

Randolph Engineering’s current contract with the Department of Defense alone is an estimated $38.6 million. All company products are still made in Randolph, Massachusetts.
