SCANA’s main subsidiary is South Carolina Electric & Gas Company (SCE&G), which was founded in 1846 as the Charleston Gas Light Company. SCE&G operates six hydroelectric plants, six coal-fired plants, eight simple cycle combustion turbines, one combined cycle power plant, and one nuclear plant with a combined generating capacity of 5.8 GW.

Another subsidiary is Carolina Gas Transmission, an interstate natural gas pipeline in South Caroline and Georgia. Other subsidiaries include PSNC Energy, SCANA Energy, SCANA Energy Marketing, and SCANA Communications.

Consol Energy was founded in 1864 as Consolidation Coal Company when several small coal companies in Maryland decided to merge their operations.

The company was acquired by Continental Oil Company (Conoco) in 1966.

In 1981 Conoco was acquired by DuPont, which in turn sold off its coal business to the German company Rheinbraun A.G.

In 1991 Consol Energy was created. It was spun-off and began public trading in 1999.

Today Consol is one of the largest coal mining companies in the United States. The company’s customers are mostly steel mills and electric utilities. Consol also operates a natural gas exploration and production segment called CNX Gas.

Cameron International/Schlumberger Corporate Office

Cameron International was founded in 1833 when Charles and Elias Cooper established a foundry and named the new company Cooper Industries.

The company became licensed to produce the Corliss steam engine in 1869 and began producing natural gas internal combustion engines in 1900.

In 1965 Cooper expanded to the automotive, electrical, and tools and hardware industries.

In 1989 Cooper acquired Cameron Iron Works and became Cooper Cameron Corporation. In 2006 the company changed names once again, this time to Cameron International Corporation.

Today Cameron International is a leading manufacturer, provider, and servicer of oil and gas industry equipment, makes products that control pressure at oil and gas wells, and produces integral and separable reciprocating engines and compressors used in oil and gas and power generation applications.

The company’s brands include Ajax, Cameron, Cooper-Bessemer, Demco, LeTorneau, Petreco, and Willis.

In April 2016, Schlumberger acquired Cameron International for $14.8 billion in stocks and cash. 

In August 2022, a former Cameron site in Little Rock, Arkansas, was sold to GTM Holdings for an estimated $775 million.
