Oklahoma Gas & Electric (OG&E) was incorporated in 1902 by Edward H. Cooke, five years before Oklahoma became a state.

The company spread across Oklahoma and began to use different ways to generate electricity. In 1949 the company began to generate electricity using steam turbines and gas turbines combined, in 1974 used coal to generate electricity, and in 2003 began to use wind power.

Today OG&E has over 800,000 individual and wholesale customers in Oklahoma and Arkansas and a generating capacity of 6,785 MW in its coal and gas-fired power plants.

Hubbell Incorporated Corporate Office

Hubbell Incorporated was founded by Harvey Hubbell II, an inventor, entrepreneur, and industrialist in 1888. Hubbell started the company to manufacture and sell consumer products. He began inventing manufacturing equipment for his factory, including a thread rolling machine, which is still in use today.

Hubbel received 45 patents during his lifetime, mostly for electrical products. His most important invention was the U.S. electrical power plug. Also notable was the pull-chain electric light socket.

Hubbell Incorporated continues to produce electrical and electronic products including wiring, connector, and grounding products, lighting fixtures and controls, and electrical equipment used by electricians.

Hawaiian Electric Industries Corporate Office

Hawaiian Electric Industries is the parent company of Hawaiian Electric Company (HECO). The company was founded in 1891 to supply the Hawaiian island of Oahu with electricity. By 1914 the company had 2,500 customers and was marketing products such as refrigerators and irons.

When Hawaii became a state in 1959, HECO was providing power to the entire island of Oahu and had a new 116,000 KW plant in downtown Honolulu.

Today Hawaiian Electric Industries is not only the holding company of HECO, but also of Maui Electric and Hawaii Electric Light. The company produces power for 95% of the population of Hawaii, or 450,000 people. It is the sole electric power supplier for the Hawaiian islands of Oahu, Maui, Lanai, and Molokai. Hawaiian Electric Industries also operates American Savings Bank, which has 57 retail branches in Hawaii.

First Solar was founded in 1984 by inventor and entrepreneur Harold McMaster as Glasstech Solar. The aim of the new company was to manufacture low-cost solar panels. Glasstech Solar was succeeded by Solar Cells Inc. in 1990 and the Florida Corporation in 1993.

In 1999 McMaster sold the company to an investment arm of the Walton family named True North Partners, which changed its name to First Solar.

NSTAR was formed in 1999 by the merger of Commonwealth Energy System and BEC Energy.

In 2010 NSTAR merged with Northeast Utilities, with the new company retaining the Northeast Utilities name. The merger was completed in 2012.

Today NSTAR operates as a subsidiary of Northest Utilities.

NSTAR Electric and Gas transmits and distributes electricity to more than 1.1 million residential, industrial, and commercial customers in Massachusetts. The state has a deregulated power market and and competition is fierce, with NSTAR providing standard offer and default supply services to retail customers.

NSTAR also distributes natural gas to 300,000 customers, also in Massachusetts.
