Hubbell Incorporated was founded by Harvey Hubbell II, an inventor, entrepreneur, and industrialist in 1888. Hubbell started the company to manufacture and sell consumer products. He began inventing manufacturing equipment for his factory, including a thread rolling machine, which is still in use today.
Hubbel received 45 patents during his lifetime, mostly for electrical products. His most important invention was the U.S. electrical power plug. Also notable was the pull-chain electric light socket.
Hubbell Incorporated continues to produce electrical and electronic products including wiring, connector, and grounding products, lighting fixtures and controls, and electrical equipment used by electricians.
The company trades publicly on the New York Stock Exchange under the ticker symbols HUB-A and HUB-B, is a member of the S&P 400, is #705 in the Fortune 1000, has 15,200 employees, and had $3.32 billion in revenue in 2013.
