C&S Wholesale Grocers was founded in 1918 in Worcester, Massachusets, by Israel Cohen and Abraham Siegel. The company began as a small grocery distribution center and warehouse in a three story building. The original location on Winter Street was ruined in a flood in 1929, forcing the company to relocate. The new location was larger, however, which proved beneficial as the company grew substantially in the following 10 years.
After C&S began serving the large supermarket chain Big D starting in 1958, the company grew even larger. Today, C&S Wholesale Grocers has 50 distribution centers in 15 states. The company had annual revenue in 2013 of $21.7 billion and employs more than 14,000 people.
C&S Wholesale Grocers acquired Piggly Wiggly Carolina Company in October of 2014 for $9.3 million.

Kenneth Allen says
To whom it concerns:
My name is Kenneth Allen. I live in Jacksonville, FL. I applied at the Baldwin, FL DC for a driver’s position. It’s understood that I live in an “at will” state. Having said that, despite the “at will” state, I don’t feel like I was treated fairly given an opportunity for consideration especially with the flawless background that I hold. I am the candidate that would be considered “overqualified” for the driver’s position. Maybe I could buy into that if there were such thing of being “overqualified” for a driver.
Now, a little about I and you tell me what’s wrong with the picture. Why wouldn’t I be eligible for consideration? I have approximately 20 years of SAFE DRIVING experience with 3.5 million miles, immaculate MVR, no accidents, all endorsements needed on my CDL license, SAFE DRIVER status, clean background, refrigerated experience etc….
Why shouldn’t I feel discriminated against? I originally contacted the third party regarding the position and the third party made the claim that C&S called me and set up an interview and I didn’t show up. Really? I’m a family man and too old to be playing games. I told the third party that I honestly don’t remember C&S calling me for an interview. Nonetheless, I don’t think it’s fair by no means. Again, this is my opinion and I will make it known despite the fact it matters at C&S. I am very honest, reliable, and a dependable man with integrity. I don’t have time for games I’m almost 50 years old.
I just want to put it out there to grab someone’s attention especially if C&S is an equal opportunity employer.
I’m confident that I will have an opportunity one day as a driver at C&S. The sad thing is that my family and I shop at Winn-Dixie which is a grocery store that C&S services. This definitely puts a bad taste in my mouth because there are several competitors in the area that my family and I could go elsewhere to do our grocery shopping not that it matters.
I’m very disturbed by the decision that C&S has come to. C&S wasn’t even willing to talk to me to hear my side of the story. Again, C&S claims and labeled me as the “bad guy” because their claim is that I didn’t come to an interview that was supposed to have been scheduled etc…. Let’s just say that I sincerely forgot, is that really a reason not to go that extra mile to find out if I was dead or not.
I would like to see what someone from corporate has to say about this. I think it’s very unprofessional and unethical for a business to treat potential employees as they see fit without any repercussions. You can bet though employees would be terminated in a “blink of an eye” for wrongdoing, and half the time is innocent.
I am proud to say that I hold a degree in criminal justice. However, it doesn’t mean that I agree with all laws and our judicial system because this is one thing I don’t agree with in terms of employers. Its individuals like this are why I decided to get a degree in law and pursue law school. Someone has to defend the hard-working people of this country asides the employer. There are so many hard working individuals that lose their job for simple mistakes without being reprimanded. It is because there are no laws to protect the hard-working men/women in the workforce.
Sincerely,
Kenneth S. Allen
