Terex began as a division of General Motors (GM) that manufactured construction equipment and trucks. The name comes from the Latin words “terra,” which means earth, and “rex,” which means king.

GM sold its Terex division to IBH Holding AG in 1980. After IBH’s bankruptcy ownership of Terex diverted again to GM.

Randolph Lenz purchased Terex in 1986 and created Terex Corporation as a holding company for his other construction assets.

Cameron International was founded in 1833 when Charles and Elias Cooper established a foundry and named the new company Cooper Industries.

The company became licensed to produce the Corliss steam engine in 1869 and began producing natural gas internal combustion engines in 1900.

In April 2016, Schlumberger acquired Cameron International for $14.8 billion in stocks and cash.
