True Value hardware stores got its start in 1948 when John Cotter and 12 other stores began a cooperative under the name Cotter & Company. Over the years, acquisitions and sales were made, including American Hardware & Supply, Coast to Coast Corporation, and Hibbard Spencer Bartlett & Company.

Today, True Value is still a cooperative of hardware stores and has more than 5,000 participating members. The company focuses on home improvement products, tools, and general hardware items such as screws, nails, lumber, and locks. This co-op supports its vast network of retailers through 12 regional warehouses and more than 3,000 associates.

The company also uses other names as a part of their co-op including Party Central, Grand Rental Station, Taylor Rental, Induserve Supply, and their largest, Home and Garden Showplace.

AmerisourceBergen distributes brand name and generic pharmaceuticals, OTC health care products, home health care supplies, and home health care equipment to pharmacies, physicians, clinics, and assisted-living centers.

The company has four major divisions: AmerisourceBergen Drug Corporation, AmerisourceBergen Specialty Group, AmerisourceBergen Consulting Services, and World Courier.

Amerisource provides about 20% of all pharmaceuticals sold and distributed in the United States and are the market leader in pharmaceutical distribution. Their revenue for 2012 was $79.49 billion.

Bruce Halle founded Discount Tire in 1960 in Ann Arbor, Michigan. The company began in an old plumbing supply store and had only 4 retread tires for sale. Today, the company has 900 stores in 28 states and continues to expand. Stores in California go under the tagline of “America’s Tire Store”.

The company now has headquarters in Scottsdale, Arizona, and is the largest independent tire and wheel retailer in America. Discount Tire has a unique business model as they focus on making their employees happy first. Halle believes that an employee who is happy to be at work will naturally do a better job, which makes for happy customers. The company has a strict “promotion from within” policy.

In 2005, Discount Tire made the Guiness Book of World Records by having the longest continuously running television commercial ever. Their commercial with a small, elderly woman hurling a tire through a window has been running daily since 1975.

In early October 2020, Discount Tire opened 5 new locations in 5 states in a 4 day period.

Today, the company has 134 locations and employs 24,000 people. Price Chopper has focused on innovative and new ideas to supermarkets in addition to the usual groceries. The company was one of the first supermarkets to offer 24 hour stores in some locations, in store pharmacies and gas stations were added over the years. In 2009, the company began to use natural gas fuel cells for power in some locations, cutting their electricity usage by at least 40 percent.
