Growing up in Vancouver, Canada, Brian Hill worked for his father’s clothing store Hills of Kerrisdale. He learned the business from the ground up and while he attended college, he realized that there was a gap between the trendy clothing of young women and the stylish but older generation.

Aritzia was founded in 1984. The first location was in the Oakridge Centre in Vancouver, British Columbia.

Aritzia went international in 2005 with locations in most major US cities including Los Angeles, Seattle, Chicago, Boston, New York, and others.

As of 2021, the company had 105 locations in the US alone.

The company maintains a large warehouse in Vancouver and occasionally offers sales directly from this location. In 2022, Aritzia gave away 200 shopping sprees from the warehouse.

In September 2022, the company partnered with fashion designer Emma Chamberlain on a new clothing collection that will be released later in the year.

Both the retail and commercial bank and the bank’s corporate office are currently located in Midtown Manhattan, New York City after the previous headquarters, located across the street, was demolished. A new headquarters building is being built on the same street.

In September 2022, the company invested $20 million in the digital health company Let’s Get Checked.
