Smith’s Food and Drug Corporate Office

Smith’s Food & Drug was founded in 1911 by Lorenzo Smith, who opened a dry goods store in Brigham City, Utah. The company moved into larger quarters across the street, but it wasn’t until Lorenzo’s son, Dee, took over the business after serving in WWII, did the business really begin to expand.

The operates a chain of full-service grocery stores in Tennessee, the  Southwest and Northwestern parts of the US. Currently, there are more than 132 locations. The company was acquired first by Fred Meyer, then by Kroger in 1999 for $8 billion. This made Kroger the largest supermarket chain in the US.

Since 2008, Smith’s Food & Drug has been opening Smith’s Marketplace stores, often by purchasing locations that have gone bankrupt and then remodeling the stores with upgraded fixtures.

The company donates to the Zero Hunger program, offering food to school age children and their families, which has grown substantially due to the coronavirus pandemic of 2020.

In October 2023, Smith’s announced the groundbreaking of a new store location in St. George, Utah.

Company headquarters remain in Salt Lake City, Utah.

King Kullen Supermarket Corporate Office

King Kullen was founded by Michael Cullen in 1930. While working for Kroger, Cullen had a different type of idea about how grocery stores should work and that they should be much, much larger. He wrote up his ideas in a letter and sent them to the Kroger corporate office, but his letter went unanswered. Disappointed, he resigned and moved his family to Long Island, where he would start his own grocery business.

Today, King Kullen has more than 32 locations in and around the Long Island/New York area. The company states that they offer “semi-service”, meaning that cheaper prices can be obtained when customers do most of the work themselves. Stores still offer deli service and a bakery, along with full-service pharmacies. In 2007, the company had annual revenue of $800 million.

The company has moved headquarters over the years as they have grown, with the current location being in Bethpage, New York.

Sneaker Pawn USA Corporate Office

Sneaker Pawn USA was founded by father and son team Chase & Troy Reed. Chase once wanted a cash advance from his father, who told him he should wait. Chase offered his favorite pair of sneakers for his dad to hold until he repaid the loan. Dad agreed and this transaction got father and son thinking.

After selling all of his shoes, 16-year-old Chase had the money they needed to rent a space and get started. Gently used shoes and what is known as Dead Stock Shoes (shoes that are new, in the box, but never worn and are no longer sold) are purchased on site, cleaned up if need be, then resold. The markup on shoes can be as much as 800%.

Sneaker Pawn USA started selling out of a friends apartment or the back of Troy’s car, but today has a brick and mortar store, as well as an active eCommerce site.
