Coit was founded in San Francisco, California, in 1950 by Louis Kearn. Originally starting off strictly as a dry cleaning business, Kearn found a niche by offering to dry clean drapes. The name comes from the Coit towers, near to where Kearn’s original building was located. The company grew quickly and franchising began in 1962.
In 1952, Coit was advertising a guarantee of the company’s work, which was highly unusual at the time. Before long, the company not only held a patent for their specialized way of dry cleaning draperies, and in 1970, the company was offering cleaning of upholstery and carpets as well.
Today, Coit is best known for its drape, carpet and upholstery cleaning, although the company has expanded to other areas as well, including clean up from water damage, cleaning of air ducts, tile and grout, wood floors and stone cleaning. The company serves more than a half million customers each year and has franchises in the US, Canada, and Thailand.
Coit is still family owned and operated, with Bob Kearn leading the company as CEO. Company headquarters are now located in Burlingame, California.

I am having a problem with Coit also, I asked them to clean my carpet, grout and wood floors – They used to harsh of a chemical or? The workman ship was very poor. When they initially cleaned it I complained because the finish was coming off – you could see the marks on the floor made by their machines. I asked the manager to come see it – he said they would strip it, I told him I did not think that would help. But I was letting them try to fix it. The stripper person did not even finish the job because he said I would not like the way it looked. I contacted them again and they sent the general manager down from their Santee store. At first he stated he would try to fix the problem. What a joke, he has done everything in his power to put off fixing it. He says it can be sanded but now he is stalling again because he wants to talk to the manufacturer. I hope you read all of these comments before you make a decision to use this company – they do not stand behind their work.

I had previously had water damage in my home and called Coit to clean my rugs because of the mildew smell. Coit came to my house to on Monday. I was not satisfied; the carpet had many many places that were not cleaned. The tech and I were in my home when he called his office and requested that the carpet be cleaned again on Wed. No one called or came to my home, I called them about 3;00 pm and they said they didn’t schedule the appointment and would schedule for Thur. The tech that came to my home on Thurs. did not have the correct equipment and it was rescheduled for Fri. The tech came to my home on Thursday and could not believe how dirty my carpet was and they it again. They told me call on Monday if I was not satisfied with the way my carpet looked after being cleaned twice. I called that Mon. and spoke to Chasity or Cassidy who was rude, dismissive and hung up on me. During my conversation with her she told me that they could not reschedule another appointment for 2 months out because of the corona virus. However the website states that they are in business to assist with deep cleaning and fogging to help with the corona virus. I tried to explain to her that they guarantee satisfaction on my money back. I had to have it cleaned twice and then the manger was to come to my home and honor the guarantee. I tried to give her details of what had occurred so she could relay the information to her manager so he could investigate but she hung up the phone. I then called corporate headquarters in California who assured me someone would get back with me today but as of 10pm I have had no phone call.
After reading several reviews I can see that customer service is not a priority in this company and they do not stand behind the satisfaction guarantee or your money back policy.
If I could rate customer service a minus zero I would. The tech was nice. Hopefully after this review I may get a resolution.

I called COIT to clean the dryer vent in my rental and made the appointment for 2 weeks later. They work in 3 hour blocks of time so I ask that I be called 1/2 hour before servicing at my home phone since it takes me 20 minutes to drive to the rental. 3 days before my appointment I was called to confirm and I asked if the guy will call me a 1/2 hour before he arrives. I was told it was not marked but that she would mark the service order. I quit working in my yard at 11:30 in case he called for a 12 noon service. My tenant called me at 1:25 and said the guy was there to clean the vent. I asked the guy why didn’t he call and he said he did, but he didn’t. I then told him to wait 20 minutes and I would be there. He told me he was leaving to do other jobs. I called the office. I spoke to Nicole who originally made the appointment and explained the disappointment with the guy, Larry. She said I should go to the condo and he would do my dryer vent after he finishes the one he is working on. I rushed out to my condo and arrived at 2:00 pm. I called Larry and asked when he would be there and that Nicole said he would do my condo next. He said after he gets done with his jobs and hung up. I called again at 3:00 and asked when he was coming? He said in 15 minutes. I waited until 3:40 and called him again. The call immediately went into his voicemail which means he had his phone turned off. I said to my tenants that I guess he went home and that he jerked me around. I left and arrived home at 4:07. The phone rang and my tenant said Larry was there to service the vent. Why didn’t he call first to let me know? I told her to tell him to go home, I am going to hire someone else to service the vent.

Not only was there damage to my washer, dryer and hardwood floors but this company specifically Nicole and Sean have the worst customer service I have ever encountered. I have been. Dealing with them for over 2 months trying to rectify the problems and they conitnually fail to do anything remotely satisfactory. They both flat out refused to give me their managers name and have still not paid for the damages after multiple phone calls and emails. I would never hire or recommend this company as both their sales and service representatives are completely incompetent.

I thought COIT was supposed to be a good name. We started off with a prejudiced salesman who came to the appointment five hours late, so while I was painting my garage he came over–at this point I let him talk to my husband. COIT was supposed to give us 50% off. COIT was supposed to schedule (1) clean the air ducts; then (2) clean the floors in our MB/Bath, and (3) polish the marble floors in two small bathrooms that probably don’t add up to 300sqft.
They sent the floor tech first. He forgot to polish one of the bathrooms, and couldn’t grout the kitchen, so we had to reschedule two different appointments for that. Then the air duct tech came and rescheduled right away because he said the floor tech is supposed to come AFTER him to clean up HIS mess. Then the COIT scheduling people would keep calling, even when you have an appointment. And if you don’t call them back, I guess they “assume” you don’t want to keep the appointment? After at least four cancellations by COIT, I spoke to them to get the bathroom floor polished so I could at least complete one project, they put the Manager (Daniel) on the phone. Can you believe he had the nerve to keep stating that WE cancelled our appointments, and that they no longer have the 50% so he could give me 35%!! I told him I’ll contact another company to clean my air ducts. He could care less! This is the first and last time I will ever have COIT in my house!

I contacted your local office in Fort Mill, SC today to have a oriental carpet (8′ x 10′) picked up & delivered. They quoted me $250 for pick up & delivery or I could have it cleaned in home for $125. Your website says no extra charge for pick up & delivery. Please explain!!! Your local office said they are a franchise & those rules don’t apply to them. I feel I’m being ripped off. Advise, Norman Sanner
