Founded in 1941 in downtown Los Angeles, California, by Carl Karcher and his wife Margaret, Carl’s Jr. is now one of the largest franchised fast food restaurant chains in the U.S. Karcher and his wife borrowed $300 against their car to buy a hot dog cart. Within one year, the couple owned 4 hot dog carts and the following year they moved to Anaheim, California, to open their first drive-through restaurant, Carl’s Drive-In Barbeque. Although the company is known for hamburgers today, those were not actually added to the menu until 1945.
In January 2019, the company announced that it was going to introduce a plant-based burger called Beyond Famous Star.
Carl’s Jr. announced that it was testing a burger for one day only which features a CBD based sauce. If it proves to be popular, it might make the regular menu.

Why is it every time we go through a Carl’s drive-thru our order gets messed up?? We don;t know it until we get home and returning for an exchange is crazy. I prefer mustard & onion on my burgers.
Tonight my daughter bought two Angus burgers, one with your mayo and one with mustard & onion. That darn mayo was on both burgers and it screws with the taste of the meat.
Until the Pandemic, I found your biscuit and gravy dish perfect and ate it 3 times a week for several weeks. You finally priced it out of sight and now I make my own at home for a fraction of the cost.

On 1/5/2022, Dr Al and I visited one of your Restaurants, CJ-1101733-WA-Lakewood. We ordered 2 HH HB CKN SND ($6.29), 1 Bund Fmous Ch, (7.59), and one LG Beverage. Total was $23.36, minus coupon of $3.19, and $6.29, leaving an order total of $15.27. We had 2 families in our automobile, we’re however informed that they will not except more than 2 coupons per car. That was ok, as we went to BK for an order for our friends.
When we arrived home, Dr Al discovered bacon on both of his sandwiches. I’ve immediately telephoned the Establishment and asked to speak with the manager. I shared my concern of having bacon on the chicken sandwiches, which was NOT printed on the coupon. She repeatedly told me that “it’s on the sign outside.” It was pouring down raining, no cover where one orders, the inside of the driver’s side wet, and did nor look at the sign, as I had coupons to go by. She told me that she is not the one printing the coupons, to complain to Corporate. There are individuals with allergies to bacon, and others restricted to eat bacon for religious reasons. When I asked for the managers name, she hesitated, however, provided me with a name. I can provide her name to you privately.
This was our first time for both couples to visit Carl’s Jr.
Please respond to my email, as I am highly allergic to bacon, and had to toss the food into the garbage.

I went to Carls Jr for a special they were offering, buy one famous star or bacon western cheeseburger and get one for a $1 but since we are vegan and ordered the beyond beef we couldn’t get the deal because it’s more expensive for beyond meat. I think they could still offer a deal for the beyond meat. We had to pay full price just because its beyond beef. Not right.

meat, lettuce, tomato ,bread with his bare hands without washing or wearing gloves , I did not see a manager to complain to ,so I just took the burger out and had to throw it away. I don’t know what kind
of training they go through but this is not the way to work at a food place.
This is the 2nd time I’ve gone to the Carl’s Jr. in Alameda, Ca, to buy items advertised on TV, then to be told “this isn’t a participating location”. How do they maintain their franchise status if they can consistently choose to “not participate”? I doubt that I’m the only person that expects your franchises to honor the “deals” we see advertised over & over on TV. When people lose faith in deals you offer you are bound to lose customers. When this franchise didn’t honor your ads I went to eat at In & Out a couple blocks away.

The Carls jr on 607 w Craig rd 89032. is under staffed and does not have enough stock to make there product correctly . I have been going to Carls since I was a boy, I have never got a super star that looked that bad ever. Who ever owns this store should not own it. It’s always under staffed and now the quality of food seems to be going down hill. The employee’s were working very hard but needed more help.
Recently the Carl’s Jr. in Oroville, Ca. at 2730 Olive Hwy. has hired a new manager. This particular manager seems to think that by fixing the damage that the old manager has created she first needs to take it out on several members of a very reliable, loyal, and competent staff. She has gone so far as to cut many staff members that were full time, down to part time. She then proceeded to change days off on people without even checking with them and expecting them to work. The staff members have chosen these days off and had them off for many, many, many months, making plans on those days in the process. This manager also has an odd way of dealing with employees when they call in sick. My roommate who works there had called in sick once under this new management and they said that if they are feeling better they will be in the following day and bring a doctors note. The manager right away said no, even if the doctor clears you, you can’t come in. The doctor did clear my roommate and my roommate ended up missing a day of work even though my roommate was cleared to work. This is not the way to manage a business by alienating, and/or forcing your excellent, loyal, employees to look elsewhere for full time work. I would imagine that this is not something that corporate would approve of. Carl’s Jr expects all of its employees to have the highest of standards. My roommate has been told by corporate on several occasions, you are a phenomenal a worker, a great team player and we appreciate your patience and extra help with customers that need it. I’m writing you this email because of the dissatisfaction with my food and customer service. I love Carl’s Jr. The western and the BIG Carl are my favorite burgers. Leaving a doctors appointment with my daughter and she stated she was hungry and was lunch time so I stopped at the closes Carl’s Jr. On MLK and Cheyanne. It was a little wait in the the drive thru but i didn’t care because I like the food
I ordered the $3 chicken nugget special you guys have going on #17/#16. Total bill was about $20 bucks. So after about 6 min I get my food I check the bag and I was missing the crisp cut fries. I alerted the drive thru window personal and he rebutted “NO EVERYTHING IS IN THE BAG” I replied no it’s not I’m missing Fries have him the bag he pulls everything out and says everything is here and I again rebuttal no I’m missing fries.So he hands me the bag back like nothing was wrong.At this point I’m pretty upset I had my 5 year old daughter the car and did it want her to see me arguing about fries that I didn’t get but paid for.
We get home about 10 min later and i grab all the food out the bag but the fries that i was missing. And it’s all cold not even room temp.and the way the food was just thrown in the box it’s not good presentation it makes it seem like you guys/gals did it even care. At this point I’m asking for a full refund and your company has lost a valued customer for over 20 years.Have attached a copy of receipt to the email and a photo. I just heard that your company intends to release cbd oil infused burgers ! That has to be the stupidest thing I have ever heard & proves to me beyond a shadow of doubt what a bunch of low life bastards are running this company! So on wed the 20th we had a shift manager class given by Gina as a trainer we came to her with a few conserns of our stores and how stressful they became When she starter blaming us as employees shift managers so lack of staff saying we are not doing our job efficiently she came to us giving us alternatives we cant do Because of the hard labor we are already doing and when we tried to explain she shut us up by saying if your store is not equipt and you dont like it give your two weeks As a employee and trainer you assume the trainer is there to help !!!due to her salary and position she should be preparing staff not pushing staff away she humiliated everyone with comments snd conserns way to go on breaking my hopes on a better store . And sadly said i will no longer be interested in going to any of her classes until shes replaced or trained properly kevin had never trested anyone with disrespect he tried and help the situation leaving out side comments. She spoke about her manager days and how great she is but i truly hate to say maybe you went as far as to hire an incompotant employee that should have never moved up the manager latter . My husband and I decided to try out the new Carl Jr in Yuma Foothills, who ever built that should be ashamed, the tables are not fastened down properly, at least not the one we were sitting at, the tiles on the floor are uneven and looks like no grout in some, and for being open less then a week, the place was already dirty, food was cold I don’t send back I just don’t return, I ran fast food places for over 15 years, my old crew would have a fit on how Carl it’s place was not in very appetizing state, why is it no one can cook to order any more except for Zips,5 guys, I’m talking fast food places .
I am not complaining I’m concerned. The Christmas tree in this store I lit and sitting in a puddle of water from a leak in the ceiling. Safety first but seems they are not concerned. Children can reach this tree and possibly a shock hazard. Wake up! I took a photo but here I see no place to post it.
Restaurant manager Maria on 24th street and Washington in Phoenix, AZ is denying my sisters termination papers. She no longer works there and the manager Maria said she wasn’t able to do it. I asked for her district managers phone number and she refused. I have it all recorded on my phone. I am also a restaurant manager for the fast food business and I do this all the time for my employees since they have to report to DES how much hours they are getting for assistance or if they still are still working there. I would like someone to contact me about this situation. There is a deadline she must meet and has to have those termination papers by August 13, 2018.

Carl’s JR (#1101088) 24th St and Washington, Phoenix, AZ: I attempted contact with Manager and Corporate 2 days ago (04 April 2018)= no replies (to me, this speaks VOLUMES about how Carl’s Jr regard customers). In short, I was ripped-off: the order was taken incorrectly, they MISREAD a coupon and short changed me. The food (usually good) tasted like garbage. I have the receipt (if a Carl’s Jr employee ACTUALLY takes the time to make this right). The check (receipt) # 0348, at 4:38 PM, Server 00183/ Vega Hilda. STAY AWAY FROM HERE! I certainly will until I hear from someone from Corporate or the Store General Manager.
I’ve worked for Carl’s Jr. for 7 years. The last 2 months of me working there I have been treated so badly and been taken advantage from. We had our manger quit and my district manager had me in charge opening and closing. I’d come all the time with no issue because I care about my coworkers & the guests. We got a new manager and for some odd reason she hated me from the start and I don’t know any idea why. I’m very friendly, I get a lot of compliments from guests. I’ve never had an issue. This store got so twisted when the District Manager Virginia hired her daughter as a shift manager and giving her a big raise. Now I had morning shifts and when the DM brought her daughter in she threw me to night when I couldn’t work much. Her daughter Jessica talks so much and never cleans, is always on her phone, also brags about her raises. She bragged about her raise she got months ago and now she is bragging about a new raise to $15… I personally don’t think its right for her to do that. I couldn’t tell the manager or DM because they don’t care. They never follow protocol of the store. I’m always the one cleaning and doing everything I’m supposed to do because I care and when I had a conflict with the manager she said she gets paid salary and that she doesn’t care. I finally put my 2 weeks in and I had enough. I loved working for Carl’s Jr. but that was my last straw when they started treating me bad. I hope someone can take care of this. thank you for the 7 years.

In medford our c.j’s arw good employees are nice but one complaint these cardboard plates you use to put the big green burritos in are horrid if u get a combo and they add rice and beans olin the plate if you dont get.it home fast youre looking at a soggy mess of a plate and they so soak threw.took my burrito combo to work for lunch and when i got to it the cardboard was soggy and had to put a plate under it so it wpuld rip.other then that no othwr problems but i do agree the shakes are less then desirable.just sayin.
What do you expect? Blame the crazy people running your city, county and state you live in. They outlawed styrofoam and many plastics so therefore all they have is cardboard made from paper. My problem is she is extremely rude to women and very inappropriate with men how I know is I heard her conversation while waiting for food and it was inappropriate talking about Pe**s no condom liquor and Hell’s Angels and getting in a fist fight with a co worker. I am a customer and feel very uncomfortable coming into your restaurant hearing this from a manager . I feel you should correct this issue as if it made me uncomfortable I know it makes others uncomfortable as well. I work as a shift manger at the Sierra vista AZ store, the general manger there HIeu isn’t treating his workers with respect he yell at us and screams at us in front of the customers, he don’t give good enough training to his mangerment staff or even to the crew how do he expect any of us to do our job the right way when all he do is yells and don’t take the time to train.i been trying to contact someone about this but cant seem to get any one here to help, so the next thing i’m going to to do is if you guys wont send someone down here to fix this mis treatment I will file a suite against him and the company. no one should be treated like they are slaves and that what he is doing treating all like we are slaves.

CARLS JUNIOR LIBERTY LAKE, WASHINGTON………..his place is disgusting, service being bad is the least one. I arrived at carls jr and placed order which took m over 12 minutes to get. . My wife took my son to the play area where there were a 14 year old boy, a 11 year old girl and a less than one year old toddler who was sitting on the floor alone eating food off the floor. The child was crying and i believe was hungry and had no one paying attention to her. I asked the kids where their parents were and i was told they were at work and were dropped off there. The two siblings were playing while the toddler sat alone crying on the floor. I brought this to the attention of the carls manager who went to the play area and told the kids that he would not be responsible if they were injured. I asked the Manager to call the police and he refused. I texted the police to let them know about the children. a little while later two men in their mid 20’s showed up to pick up kids in pickup truck without proper child seats. I had told the guys i was worried about the kids being alone and called the police. One of the men told me to mind my business and spit in my face and tried to punch me. I pushed him away and he then just taunted me from a distance. this could have been avoided if Carls JR did its due diligence and had a responsible manager on the floor. The two that picked up the kids were not even the parents or guardians of the kids. These kids could ahve been kidnapped right under the eyes of the Carls junior staff. Even while I was attacked by this guy the manager did nothing. This Carls JR is one that should not be trusted with the safety of any children. On a separated note my 9 year old had to play in a children play area where a 14 year old boy who was way too big . Carls JR put the safety of myself, my wife and child in dnger. The manager told me I should have minded my business and this would not have happened and above age. My child could have been injured. This is a despicable display of service and responsibility on the part of Carls JR. The police did come and I ave a report and the license of the people who attacked me and also picked up the kids…I am hoping the police report this to CPS. You are not safe as a customer at this carls jr.Hell, im not going to any carls jrs again.

love Carls. your shakes SUCK!!! so disappointed today.picture shows shake topped with cherry, same as Jack in the Box does it. the clear plastic cup you put it in does not keep shake cold! it was melted by the time i got home and my car has A/C. i dumped it in the sink. no cherry. thin and watery shake. Get recipe from Jack in the Box.Terrible.won’t purchase at Carls again. AND I spent $4.00! for shake..will say, workers are extremely nice there. Sub par, for sure.

But The bogo only discounted $1.69. Then i told the manager and he said he couldnt do anything, that they just put the code in and that there was an error on the coupon.

My name is Natalie Curry and I would like to make a complaint about my previous employment at Carl’s Jr. I began working at one of your locations I can’t remember the store # but the address was 1625 E 4th St. Ontario CA 91764. When I first started working at this location it was great friendly staff and a welcoming vibe. But also I noticed some odd things. First, I don’t believe I was adequately trained at all. They assigned me another crew member that had only been working there for a short time and in result he wasn’t able to show me everything I need to know to be the best I could be. One specific thing being safety features throughout the store and some cleaning procedures. Weeks into my employment I started being harassed by one of the shift leaders named Stephanie. She refused to help me when I would ask for help and also she would speak negatively about my performance to other employees. When I mentioned this to managers and other shift leaders my accusations were never taken seriously and the poor treatment continued. I was dreadful to work shifts she was on but tried to improve my performance in hopes her treatment towards me would improve also but it didn’t. This went on for 6 to 7 weeks until that shift leader quit. After working there became more enjoyable until one day when the assistant manager, without any other further training, switched me to drive thru. I was not upset about moving to drive thru I was just displeased by the lack of training I was given before moving to drive thru. I eventually learned on my own how to manage drive thru and really started to like it, but some issues arose. Other crew members and I were yelled at on multiple occasions for the drive time when cirXXXXstances were beyond our control. This created a very hostile work environment and took a toll on all of us that worked that position. This leads to my main complaint, in my last week of employment there I was working the morning shift from 7:30 AM to 3:00 PM and was scheduled to work the dining area. Usually during that shift the shift leader is Norma and the crew member working drive thru is Mariella. And we normally take turns taking orders on drive thru and dining because normally slow during this time. This particular morning, Norma was in the back in the freezer and mariella went to take her break and I was left to work drive thru and dine in area all by myself. It was slow so I was confident that I would be able to handle 10 minutes while Mariella was on her break. But then a car came to the drive thru and also a woman walked into the dine in area and was waiting for me to take her order. In that moment I had to make a judgement call and due to the way that the management stressed the importance of keeping our drive time under 3:21 I felt that drive thru came first. So I made the foolish decision to take both orders at once going back and forth from the drive thru to the dining area. Doing this caused me mess up some aspects of scripting to the dine in guest, but I completed the drive thru guests order without forgetting anything. Norma eventually left and another shift leader came in to replace her but I can’t remember her name at this time. When she came in she sat in the office. Mariella came back from her break and resumed her position at the drive thru and I went back to Dine. I went to clean the dining area and I noticed the woman that I had taken an order too was a secret shopper and I knew I did miss some steps while scripting. Later after she left and handed the papers the the shift leader, that shift leader confronted me about the secret shopper and basically yelled at me and told me that because I made a mistake I was going to get everyone else on the shift in trouble because I couldn’t do my job right. I then tried to tell her why it was that I missed things while scripting but she continued the tell me that everything was my fault. She also added that I didn’t give the woman a comment card after I took her order but before hand was never instructed to do that for any other customer. So in order to de escalate the situation I decided to go straighten up the dine. Once I was done I came back and I overheard the shift leader talking to Mariella telling her everything that she felt I did and also speaking negatively about me and my abilities. I understand I made a mistake but I Do Not feel that I deserved to be treated and talked about in that manner. I was embarrassed that she would talk openly about what happened with another crew member and make me look like a joke. So because she made me feel that I was inadequate and the laughing stock of the store I asked to be excused to take my break took a comment card and wrote my resignation on the back explaining that I felt that the working conditions became too stressful and I was unable to continue in these conditions and left. I understand the way I left might have been emotionally based but I truly felt mistreated. I now feel that my previous employment at Carl’s Jr. is hindering my chances for other employment. I’m starting college in the fall and would like to find another job during the summer and I have been putting applications in for other fast food restaurants and keep getting denied and my suspicion is because of my standing with the Carl’s Jr. that I worked at. I am not accusing anyone of doing anything I just would like for my previous employment to not interfere with future employment.

I wanted to bring this issue to your attention prior to report to California Heath Department. Multiple times I have visited the Carl’s located on San Jose Market Center, 655 Coleman Ave, San Jose, CA 95110. and reported to management that the cleaning personnel are cleaning the floor on business hours . Not a good idea to sweep the floor when customers eating
Sunday Feb 26th at approx 8:15 pm my family and I went to have dinner
I noticed one of the employees was sweeping the floor. I ask the store manager working at the register the night to please ask the employee if possible to stop sweeping on my area and let me eat my dinner .My main concern is dust will end up in our dinner. The manager IGNORED me . the employee kept on cleaning . my family and another table had to move to other side of restaurant for the employee to finish sweeping .
Please educate your employees NOT to clean while customers eating
to respect customers . If i see this one more time i will have to report it to
the Health Department .

First of all, we love your menu options; I think you have the best “fast food” burgers around. That is why, when we were traveling to visit family and decided to get some lunch in Holbrook, AZ, we chose Carl’s Jr.
It was about 2pm on Friday, January 13, 2017. We entered the restaurant, and the young man at the front counter took our order. I want to commend him, he was pleasant and helpful. I think his name was Adam. As we were placing our order, we heard the young lady that was obviously the manager tell the young lady working at the drive-thru that they need to “take some lids over to Pizza Hut”.
Shortly after placing our order, the one young man in the back that was cooking left to go to the restroom. After seeing/acknowledging that he was leaving the grill area, the manager headed toward the back. I thought maybe she was going to help out with the food prep. At that time, they had our order, an order from the drive-thru, and another pair of people had entered the restaurant. However, she came back up and went to talk to the young lady at the drive-thru, who then came and hung her headpiece around the neck of the young man at the counter. I though maybe the manager was having her go back to help prepare the food, but no, the manager kicked at a box on the floor, had the “drive-thru” girl pull out a big back of plastic lids, then they both left the restaurant to go deliver the lids to Pizza Hut.
We waited a few more minutes, realizing there was no one there but the counter worker, and nobody was doing any food prep. Finally, my husband walked up to the counter worker and asked for our money back. The other two people were just getting ready to place their order after they had both made trips to the ladies room, so he said he would take care of it as soon as he finished taking their order. When they were done ordering, he started working on our refund, and I pointed out that he had been left alone. He looked around, seeming a little surprised to see that he was the only one working.
While he was working on our refund, the cook finally came back out of the restroom, and shortly after the manager and drive-thru worker came back in. The counter worker talked to the manager, and she came up to the register to help him with the refund. My husband and I were both standing right there at the counter, but the manager never acknowledged us, never even looked at us, and walked away as soon as the counter worker had the transaction finished. He gave us our money and he was very apologetic for our trouble.
I basically never make complaints, but neither of us have ever had such extremely poor service (or I should say, complete lack of service). We felt you should be aware of how your brand is being represented in Holbrook, Arizona, and that it is apparently much more important to help out a competing business rather than serve their own customers.
Went to carls in sun valley been there a few times staff is rude each time, they take forever to take your order, when they do they took ine person order and walked aeay when 3 other customers were eaiting me being one of them. Burger was cold and coffee old etc

Again I ordered fries cheese burger coke 4.97 cool nothing special….receive fries and Coke no burger had to pay 2.97 extra I hate you people this store does not get anything right after 12pm I will share this with anyone thar will listen this carle Jr sucks
I have lived here in Yuma Arizona now for 30 years Carl’s Jr has always been my favorite but the pass 2 times their they have not meet any safe health I worked as a prep cook for years can no longer work due to being disabled wish I could of because I would of went in the back and showed some New cooks how to cook bacon I ordered a western bacon cheese burger today when I first got it the bacon had been all in little peace ‘s all over the top then the bacon was as raw as if you had put it in the fire pan as soon as it was hot flip it over and then again as soon as it looked heated took it off and put it on the burger very uncooked I was very disappointed I just asked for my money wasn’t going to try a 3rd time to get it right these new cooks need to know how to cook before they even try to play the roll

My boyfriend and I moved to Sierra Vista, AZ. 3 weeks ago. I visited your establishment this passed October 31 at lunch time, through the Drive thru. I was only the 3rd car in line and waited 30 minutes for my food. I ordered 1 single western bacon cheeseburger meal and 1 double western bacon cheeseburger meal. By the time I reached the drive thru window, the hefty red headed woman with glasses, apologized for the wait, and said “I don’t know what they are doing back there”. I went straight home, only to find ALL our food was old and cold. Now, Carl’s Jr is known for expensive food. You would think the quality and the service would match. You would also think with all the bad things going on with such fast food places as Chipolte, you would up your game, especially where the elderly people and toddlers are concerned. Whoever is the District Manager for the Arizona region needs to make a surprise visit to Sierra Vista, because there could be hospital visits and lawsuits right around the corner for this establishment.
This is my third time trying to send this compliant and the website “doesn’t work”. I hope this reaches the proper person.
