I have a 6 hp B & S engine on an old Tote Gote. The engine model # 142304, type 502057, serial # 251512. No one out in the small engine world can even find this model #. It’s off the engine placard. I’m try to locate a recoil starter for this engine. I was given starter #693900. Not even close to fitting. Suggestions Briggs and Stratton before I go buy another brand of engine?

Hi, I am a very experienced race mechanic but the magneto ignition on my 5 hp rotovator has got me beat. Last year I was working the machine and it just stopped working, the problem no spark, after doing all the normal checks I decided it was the coil and so got a replacement but this did not cure the problem and sent it back and eventually with another one got it running. The same thing happened last week. It started ok and then after 5 mins warming up it just stopped again checks said it was the coil, got a new one but cant get it to spark. Thinking more about it both times the engine cut out, when I tried to restart it got semi back fires through the carburetor as though the timing was wrong but with this flywheel magneto that is not possible and it should still produce a spark even if the the timing is wrong. There is obviously some other thing causing the problem as 3 coils cant all be wrong, I have set the air gap at many different settings all with no joy. The flywheel magnet is very strong and secured as is the flywheel to the crankshaft. If it was a normal ignition system with points I would say there was a short somewhere grounding the spark. There is an ignition cut out connection on the coils but have never been used as there is a metal tab to ground the HT lead where the spark plug is. So guys any ideas

I want to tell you how disgusted I am with Briggs-Stratton. At one time it was the company of choice for engines, but now all Briggs-Stratton sends to market is junk, most klikely made with cheap Chinese parts.
In 2015 I purchased a Sears Lawn Tractor with a 19 HP Briggs-Stratton engine. While in warranty the engine started surging and had to be replaced. The new engine ran for several months and then it started surging. The solenoid in the carburetor was hanging up and blocking the fuel flow to the engine. The carburetor solenoid was “adjusted” and ran for another month. The engine again started surging and the carburetor had leaked gas into the engine cylinders. The oil was removed and the carburetor was replaced under warranty. After another several weeks the engine would not crank. Another service call resulted in a crankshaft that had to be replaced – $700 + expenses. For every service call Sears Charges a $90.00 diagnostic fee. So far I have spent approximately $200 in diagnostic fees to fix a worthless engine that will most likely fail again in the near future.
I will no longer buy any product with a Briggs=Stratton engine. They are pure junk.

Good morning.
I am looking for contact information to your corporate marketing and or PR firm. I ran CBS 10 WILM TV, Wilmington, NC, and we gave away 4x’s generators each year, 2012 – 2015, during Hurricane Season, which is in full swing in the Coastal Carolinas through November 1, 2018…this promotion was a smash hit and truly benefited families in rural areas that relied on your generators to live their daily lives during power outages and recovery, etc.
I have misplaced my contact information and would love to discuss this promotion for the MYRTLE BEACH DMA, top 101….many many rural areas in SC. This would be for WBTW News 13, a Nexstar Station and the #1 News and Weather station in the market, CBS affiliate. 281,550 TV HH’s and 686,500 metro population. Please contact me directly ASAP as I would love to roll this out at the beginning of August or September should you have a continued interest. HEAVY promo schedule, digital etc….we can discuss. The generators would be drop shipped right to the station as I will take pics/video of each winner as additional fulfillment material (Additional GRP’s and Impressions)
Thank you very much for your time and I’m hopeful we can bring this valuable promotion to WBTW and the Myrtle Beach, SC DMA.
Sincerely,
Glenn M. Saulnier

I have a situation with one of your dealerships here in Goldsboro N.C., I was referred to a Pro-turf here in Goldsboro to get my Storm Responder Generator repaired. My generator is still under warranty, only had it for a year when it stop putting out juice, even though it cranks with no problem. One day checking it due to storms approaching noticed it would not provide any power, even though everything else worked. Upon recommendation from your customer service i took it to Pro-Turf on April 10,2018. Today is May 15, 2018, have returned to the establishment several times, only to be told the technician working on my equipment was having issue with the product and your company connecting with him in regards to the warranty, or unable to diagnose the problem. My case number is 651163, Your Escalation Department was suppose to be working on this but as to this day i have heard nothing from them or Pro-Turf in regards to my generator. I am writing this to show there is a break down in communication, training, and the ability to honor the warranty of your product.

Message is for director of sales.
Do yourself and your company a service and take a good, hard look at the void between the customer service you claim to offer and what is actually occurring. Authorized dealers cannot get real time access to basic form, fit and function data critical to sales. Your phone contacts have similar limitations. Your request for help web page design is hard to use (try entering a phone number in that data field using the same format the B&S number is displayed on the same page) and see what happens.
And the advice that comes back—-go see an authorized dealer. Really?
Better to be honest with your customers about the lack of help that will be offered rather than build false expectations.
I fear you are losing sales at a much higher rate than imagined….

LINE and followed there verbal commands, and yes it is evident by there tech team, what a JOKE.

I have purchased a B&S SURFACE CLEANER from LOWES and have returned it for a replacement. The part that spins continues to wear and then fails to spin. My driveway is 1400 square feet and this happens before I can finish cleaning the entire driveway. Do you have a replacement part that will not wear and continue to fail? What can I do to insure that the SURFACE CLEANER will continue to function as it should?

I can see why you made 1.84 billion dollars in 2013 because no one answers your phone.Called almost 2weeks ago about a pressure washer used 2x.Bought it last January or December at Lowes.Went to take it back to exchange for another, they told me I would have to pay $70 and send it off.Asked me what was wrong, said it looked brand new.I took it to the local dealer and he said they had several complaints about that model and the carberator was the issue.Called MTD they were very nice said they have Briggs&Stratton make the Engines and should exchange the product or give me a claim # so I would be all set.Needless to say 2weeks have gone by and spoke with Customer Service.Discussed

I bought a pressure washer with a briggs engine back in May 2016, I used it two times and now 6 months later it will not start. The engine is a 875EXSeries SN 1512175601005 it is a 190cc, model year 2016. I have pulled and pulled, cleaned filter , checked plug and gas. This engine just will not start. No more briggs unless they can fix my problem. Only 6 months and can not use. I have a mower with a honda engine that is ten years old and it will start first or second pull every time. What will you do about this problem. email: tomcooley02 at yahoo.com

Granted, my new Briggs engine, 18hp OHV-Twin, was installed in my John Deere mower 6 years ago at a cost of over 2300.00. However, total hours used was less than 350 hours with oil changes at least two per season. This year I notice an oil leak and took it back to the John Deere dealer. They wanted over 630.00 to replace a gasket. Not real happy with this average cost of this motor being over 400.00/ year! I understand there was only a two year warranty, but, is this what you consider a good motor/investment?

Called about the warranty card that i send in, not sure if i can find my receipt.. Explained all that info to cust. service, while i was still talking she said, wait, than just transferred me to SOMEWHERE .As of now, i’m STILL holding after 17 minutes./ Called Murray, the maker of the unit about that warranty card, they had no idea what i was talking about… They knew NOTHING about warranty cared.. Than WHY PUT A WARRANTY card in the box ?? Man said, they go by the MAnufacture date on the unit. My weed eater has a two yr. warranty on it, and it was made 06/2015, even though i didnt buy it until until 10/2015.. SO basically im losing 4 months of warranty.. BEWARE,, REMEMBER that Briggs/ Stratton goes by the MFG. date, NOT when you bought it, is what that man just told me,,Sounds kinda’ underhanded to me..

Thror the seasonee years ago I purchased a Briggs and Stratton gas generator. The 1st year after 6 months it had to go back to the dealer for repairs. I only use it for 5 months a year. After 3 weeks it was returned to me. I put it up for the winter after servicing it I put up for the winter as we go to florida for the winter. On returning I used it for about a month ,and had to return it for repairs again. Two or three months I returned it again and was told it was beyond repair. The dealer told me he was trying to contact your company. They said they had no luck, they have now had it for almost a year. Having paid almost 900.00 dollars i feel ill used. It is a high price to pay for 1 year total usage. Needless to say I am very disatisfied with your company. I would like a reply to this message. I am trying to be a gentleman about this. yours Walter Gurney
